I find it disgusting that in this day & age, people can still do things like hang nooses up, and only recieve what amounts to a slap on the wrists. Or the fact that an all-White group and beat down a Black person, and nothing happens, yet a vastly smaller all-Black group is threatened with decades of prison time for doing the exact same thing to a White person.
Just what the hell did Martin Luther King march for all those years ago, with people of all nationalities & races following along, if nothing has changed now? |

I am a white woman who comes from a small town. I grew up know that all people are equal! I don't care whether a person is black, white, green or yellow! Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. And these Teenagers that are on trail for a fight... Ridiculous!!!! I was reading up on this article... When a white kid threaten an African American kid with a shot gun and did not get in trouble, but the African American kid got in trouble because he took the gun away from the white kid... what is that all about? These people in this town of Jena need to grow up and open their eyes to a country that is accepting all races and colors! I am married to an African American man, and that is happening all around the country!!! These teenagers need a real trial where there is actually African Americans involved not just the Teenagers on trial! I can believe that this is happening, but I can't because it just hurts to see that there is still this kind of hatred in this world!!! I feel like they should be tried in another county where there is actually diversity in the jury and the legal system! I mean come on people!!!!
God Bless these Teenagers!!! You are in my prayers!! This has happened before: "Shaquanda Cotton (sometimes incorrectly referred to in the media as "Shaquandra" or "Shaquana") is an African-American girl who, in March 2006, at the age of 15, was sentenced to an indeterminate time not to exceed her 21st birthday in the Texas Youth Commission's juvenile detention facilities for shoving a hall monitor at her high school in Paris, Texas, U.S.A." According to trial testimony, the incident with the teacher's aide happened on September 30, 2005 about 20 minutes before classes began at Paris High School. Teacher's aide Cleda Brownfield locked the school building's door at 8:05 am in accordance with school policy. Brownfield testified that Cotton approached her, attempting to enter the building "saying she had to go to the restroom." Brownfield told Cotton she would have to use a restroom in cafeteria until the building was opened at 8:30. Cotton left, then returned when she saw another student being allowed to enter for a school-related meeting. Cotton again attempted to enter and was stopped by Brownfield. Cotton then allegedly told Brownfield "I'll knock your block off" and attempted to push her way in. Brownfield put her hand up "in a defensive posture" and Cotton "responded by shoving her hard." Teacher Jerry Fleming was standing nearby and witnessed as Brownfield was pushed. Cotton cut her hand on a pencil being carried by Fleming and fell as he extended his arm to restrain her. School authorities then summoned Paris Police officer Brad Ruthart (school resource officer assigned to the campus), who then met with both Brownfield and Cotton about the incident. According to Ruthart's testimony, Brownfield "was crying, very upset, holding her arm. I asked her if she was OK, and she said she was not. I felt she needed medical help. She was so upset she had difficulty talking." Ruthart testified that Cotton, who was being held in the office, "was very calm, didn’t appear to be a threat" at this point. Ruthart investigated the incident and was told by several teachers that Cotton instigated the attack. Some students, who were described as Cotton's friends, stated that Brownfield "shoved first." Ruthart stated that this version was uncharacteristic of Brownfield, who was a "mild-mannered, soft-spoken, a grandmotherly type." Cotton claimed at the trial that she was attempting to enter the building to take her medicine for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder at the nurse's office. Brownfield testified that Cotton never requested to visit the nurse's office. Ruthart also testified that Cotton made no mention of needing to visit the nurse's office when he questioned her about the incident afterward. Approximately one hour after the incident Brownfield was placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital by ambulence for her injuries from the attack. Cotton's mother also drove her to the emergency room for the cut on her hand, head contusion and sprained neck suffered during the fall when Fleming was trying to restrain her." And Paris is the most Racist city in TX. This needs to Stop!!!! Michelle in TN~ Last edited by mdixon2205 : 08-20-2007 at 04:02 PM. Reason: missing word... |

I pray that they find justice. I am still fighting for justice in a case that is a bit similar to this one, but my son was the victim. He was a 17 year old, black teenager, who was beat to death by 6 (or more) white males. No one is paying for his death! Not even a an assault charge! Everyone was set free because the jury, (all white) decided that his death was caused by his head hitting the ground. Not because they beat him to the ground, but because of how he hit the ground. So, I feel the pain more than you know. At least no one lost their life, as my son lost his.

Just an FYI guys,
Al Shaprton was in Jena last week regarding this issue. Tom Joyner spoke on it last week and it's on Blackamericaweb.com also. This entire situation is ridiculous. You'd think we were in pre-1960 America. Then again... |

This is an outrage. But this is a prime example of why our people must stick together. Cause the Law and Judges have the power of our freedom and that of our youth also in their hands. And some of these hands have been washed in deceit and unfairness.
How can a White Student be able to do the unspeakable and not get the same reprimand as the Black Student. And why is this punishment so harsh for these children. When does a schoolyard brawl between two students become a lifetime sentence. Just doesn't make any sense. We have to wake up and realize we are not all equal when it comes to the judicial system ![]() |

I find it sad and appalling that African-Americans do not pay attention to what is happening to this world we live in. WAKE UP!!! Jena, Louisiana is just one more example of how we as a people are being treated/mistreated in this society. We are so busy and so wrapped up in our own little world that we miss out on the big picture. What is going on in Jena is an insult and an attack on every black man and woman in America. Wake up...before it's about you... before your or someone you love become a victim of the prevailing injustice in this country.

Sad times when we think that an ALL WHITE JURY is a JURY of a Black Person's PEERS....and especially down south where we are still highly hated.
May God Bless those who are Hated and those who are Hating! Jimmie Strong Listening in from Scottsdale Arizona |
