Not many people who listen to the Michael Baisden Show are starting their own TV network, but we are!

It's called Indie Dish. It will be a forum for independent artists of all types, (music, films, tv) and also screenwriters, producers, directors, animators etc. to showcase their various talents and increase their exposure. We're taking the concept of an MTV, BET, VH1, HBO, etc, and bringing it to the local level, and it is all black owned and operated. We are presently seeking high quality video content from all independent artists. If they do not have it and want it, we can produce it for them!

We are also giving small local advertisers a chance to be on TV that may have been out of their reach in the past, while simultaneously reaching an audience that they may not have been able to reach before.

We'll be debuting in the Atlanta area, on Comcast channel 150 in early October (set for this Saturday, October 6, 8pm) where we will be available to approximately 500,000 Comcast subscribers in the metro Atlanta area, with plans to expand to every major market in the country, and eventually offering a package of several original channels.

Happy New Year! I hope that 2008 has started off strong and headed in a positive direction for you. January is typically the month that everyone gets back into the gym to once again work at shedding those unwanted pounds. I figured I’d start the New Year out by promoting the consumption of that dreaded three letter word FAT! Yes I know some of you may be wondering what the heck I am talking about because we have become such a fat conscious society but rest assured there is a method to my madness. Not all fat is bad fat! Just like there are Good Carbohydrates and Bad Carbohydrates there are Good Fats and Bad Fats. The problem is that we have generalized all fat as being bad fat that stores around our mid sections. Something for you to ponder on is if that were the case Eskimos should be morbidly obese because their primary source of food is just that FAT! You see there are fats that our bodies cannot produce and we need to get thru certain foods and/or supplements. These fats are referred to as EFA’s or Essential Fatty Acids.
EFA’s Have Been Shown To:
• Improve Skin and Hair
• Reduce Blood Pressure
• Lower Cholesterol and Triglycerides
• Aid in Preventing Arthritis
• Aid in Brain Function
There are two basic categories of EFA’s and they are Omega-3 and Omega-6. Both are excellent for the body however the Omega-3 is the more desired of the two. The eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is found in fresh deep water fish. Salmon (my personal favorite), mackerel, menhaden, herring and sardines are excellent sources of fish oil. In order for these animals to survive at the colder depths of the sea requires them to have more good healthy fat in order to survive. A good tip to keep in mind is the colder the water the healthier the fish! The Omega-6 EFA’s, which include linoleic and gamma linoleic acids, are found primarily in RAW nuts (not honey roasted or lightly roasted), seeds and legumes and in unsaturated vegetable oils, such as borage oil, grape seed oil, primrose oil, sesame oil, and soybean oil. A major note is that it is healthy to cook with the previously mentioned oils but one should not rely on getting the full nutritional benefits thru cooking. Heat will actually destroy the EFA’s and should be consumed thru either a capsule or liquid supplement. Think of cooking with these oils as a healthier alternative, but no matter what oil you cook with when it starts to smoke it is turning into a Hydrogenated Oil which is the fat that we want to steer clear from! You can find all kinds of EFA supplements at your local health food store and should be part of the ENTIRE family’s healthy lifestyle.
