You have given me so much encouragement! I was comtemplating whether to go back to work a regular 9-5 job, after leaving the TDC Prison system. I am currently writing a book about my experiences as a Correctional Officer in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I found out why a lot of inmates come out even more messed up then when they went in! There is no justice, it's "just us"! Correctional Officers are trained to humiliate the inmates and treat them all like they were all child molestors! I pray that my book will be the catalyst to first open eyes to what's going on inside prison walls and second help to change the way our prison system is. It's legalized slavery and it must be stopped!!!! Please give me the name of your publisher and any advice on writing my book and getting it published.

Hello Michael,

I am a 37 yo black male and I started my business about 2.5 years ago. It has been a long hard road but things are finally starting to get better. Candleman (www.candlemandc.com) is a high-end gift, candle and home accessory shop. I am in debt up to my neck because I financed the business from my life's savings and investments. I didn't know how to put together a "good" loan package so I wasn't successful when I was looking for a loan. If you could focus a show on what potential business owners need to know about financing that will help a lot of people I think. If I knew then what I know now....man oh man.

I am so inspired by you because I am still working my full time job while I try to grow the business. Hearing you share the story of you working and writing your book made me feel that I can do this. I can really do this. It means that I work 16-18 hour days but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my business. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to be a full time entrepreneur but my business isn't able to pay me a salary yet. I am able to pay my employees, rent and buy inventory and I think/hope that's an achievement.

In the mean time I'm working hard and making sacrifices and listening to your show for inspiration. I need the energy you send through the radio waves to keep going. Honestly, your passion is so strong that I can literally feel the energy through the radio waves.....and its contagious. Business is up 33% over last year this same period so business is definitely going in the right direction its just taking longer than expected to get where I need it to be.

I'm a 31 year-old African American, Art Director, living in Atlanta. I just recently started a t-shirt business and have designed a shirt to open up everyones awareness to the major crisis issue that we are having with our African-American brothers. I'm sure you know as well as I do that black males lead the stats in imprisonment, unemployment, poor health, poverty, death by homicide, and lack of education.

At the present time, I do not have a business though I do have a vision for one and it is forthcoming. I am a middle/high school teacher and I do envision for myself my own school. It has been extremely encouraging and exciting to hear the impact that your show has on so many people! Therefore I decided to tell my story. First of all I listen to your show everyday, and just began using the boards as an avenue to tell you, your team, and others about an African American Prep School that is the oldest in the nation! I am an Alumni of this great institution. Laurinburg Institute began back in 1904 with a dream and vision that started with Booker T. Washington. From there that dream was passed on to a family by the name of Mr. & Mrs. Frank H. McDuffie. There have been several great outstanding African Americans that have graduated from Laurinburg Institute.Such greats as Dizzy Gillespie (Jazz Artist), Sam Jones (Boston Celtics), Charlie Scott (Boston Celtics), The starting five on the Memphis State College team, and among many others! Recently I had the opportunity to go back and visit this great Institution after 24 years and was extremly saddened with what I saw. I sat down and spoke with the McDuffie family and began to try to understand what had happened with the school. I realized at that point, that it was my responsibility and other Alumni responsibility to come back as Alumni and ask what we could do to save our school. Currently since that visit, we have developed a team called the "Dream Team." This team is made up of contractors, wall street analyst, Principal's of schools, Lawyers, fundraising coaches, Investment Advisors, the President/Vice President of Laurinburg Institute, Business Owners, and Ministers. All of whom are Graduates of Laurinburg Institute. What we have done is come together as a team of very successful Alumni and have created a fundraising campaign called, "Sewing Seeds For Our Second Century." We chose this name because it is important to understand the act of sewing into something. Our faith and prayers are that we will raise money for operational expenses, refurbishing, and rebuilding our gymnasium, school building, dormitories, social hall, and nurses buildidng. In addition we would like to hold various different receptions across the country to have the opportunity to gather people to talk about the vision and history of Laurinburg Institute. Theses receptions will lay the foundation for renovations. My name is Arlene Crawford. I have had the opportunity to read the testimonials of the impact of advertising on the Michael Baisden Show. It has been extremely encouraging and exciting to hear the impact that your show has on so many people! Therefore I decided to tell my story. First of all I listen to your show everyday, and just began using the boards as an avenue to tell you, your team, and others about an African American Prep School that is the oldest in the nation! I am an Alumni of this great institution. Laurinburg Institute began back in 1904 with a dream and vision that started with Booker T. Washington. From there that dream was passed on to a family by the name of Mr. & Mrs. Frank H. McDuffie. There have been several great outstanding African Americans that have graduated from Laurinburg Institute.Such greats as Dizzy Gillespie (Jazz Artist), Sam Jones (Boston Celtics), Charlie Scott (Boston Celtics), The starting five on the Memphis State College team, and among many others! Recently I had the opportunity to go back and visit this great Institution after 24 years and was extremly saddened with what I saw. I sat down and spoke with the McDuffie family and began to try to understand what had happened with the school. I realized at that point, that it was my responsibility and other Alumni responsibility to come back as Alumni and ask what we could do to save our school. Currently since that visit, we have developed a team called the "Dream Team." This team is made up of contractors, wall street analyst, Principal's of schools, Lawyers, fundraising coaches, Investment Advisors, the President/Vice President of Laurinburg Institute, Business Owners, and Ministers. All of whom are Graduates of Laurinburg Institute. What we have done is come together as a team of very successful Alumni and have created a fundraising campaign called, "Sewing Seeds For Our Second Century." We chose this name because it is important to understand the act of sewing into something. Our faith and prayers are that we will raise money for operational expenses, refurbishing, and rebuilding our gymnasium, school building, dormitories, social hall, and nurses buildidng. In addition we would like to hold various different receptions across the country to have the opportunity to gather people to talk about the vision and history of Laurinburg Institute. Theses receptions will lay the foundation for renovations. I tried for 2 hours to get through to your show. I would like for you to hear my story of when I had enough. You see I never want to be corporate I wanted to be part of corporate. I went to college and got a BS degree. I felt that it was enough and did not want anymore formal education, but sometimes it's not what you want it is what God has planned for you. So one day I felt in my heart that I needed to pursue my masters degree. My husband was getting out of the military and I want to support him emotionally and financial while he got his degree the way he did for me. So I finished my masters program in 11 mos, 2 mos before he retired from the army. I thought that I would get this degree and the jobs would be pouring in. All I had to do is send them my resume. I was so wrong. You see I was slinging a double edged sword. My credentials made me over qualified and my experience made me under qualified. I couldn't even get a corporate interview. Until one day when I just started crying, and shout out to God what was it? I couldn't even get a job making $24000 a year, (credential made me over qualified). Then one day I went to Office Depot to get something and asked if they were hiring for management, the said no but they were hiring for customer service, so I put in an application and ask for $10.00 per hour. They offer me 8.50 and gave me 8.25. But the hiring manager hired me over the phone after a brief phone interview. I had never heard of anyone getting hired over the phone, so I figured I better take the job. funds were getting low. I prayed about it and in my spirit I felt that God had this planned, not ever believing that becoming an entrepreneur was what he wanted for me, but I settled into my position looking forward to moving up within the business, and one day I realized that my boss,(a black female) was threaten by me and was back biting me to upper management and all I was trying to do is my job and my job was to make her look good, so that she could move up and in the process I could move up. I may have had the credentials,but she had years of experience.Why couldn't we have worked together? I never knocked her or her experience, I love my people and I always try to be encouraging to them. But for her to do what she did, I just could not take. I prayed about it and God put it on my heart to open a business,(couldn't have been anything else, because I was dead set against it). I talked to my husband, at first he said no, he wasn't going to help me if I did, I was discourage for a brief moment(just a brief moment) I wiped away my tears and prayed away my fears and doubts and said I am going to do this because I believe it was meant for me to. My husband had a dream that night and awaken that next morning spitting out a whole different tune. I decided to do what I do so well, Which is talk and help people,but I am doing it for myself.
