Hey Family - I wanted to put my wife's business out there on her behalf. Her name is Liz Kemp and she recently opened up Island Breeze, a market and cafe that is offering a wide selection of natural and organic grocery items as well as some of the best Jamaican dishes in the Carolinas. She is located in the Baxter Village of Fort Mill, SC which is right off I-77 (exit 85). I have used her catering services several times to feed doctors' offices in the area and she has received nothing but praise from all.
I know that the real key to her success is getting the word out to our community and letting them know that she is here. Her current customers from the "area" are not acquainted with authentic Jamaican dishes so she has had to modify the menu (adding a variety of CHICKEN SALADS) to accommodate them. But as those who can appreciate a plate of curry goat, ox tail, and jerk chicken begin to make their way into Island Breeze, there will be no compromising on the menu.
If folk are looking for real Jamaican food (did I mention she's Jamaican), then stop on by. If folk are looking to support one of the few minority owned businesses in the area, then on stop by, get your eat on and maybe pick a few items off the shelf that will be good for you and your family.

High School Business Teacher Incorporates a Nonprofit Organization to Mentor and Help Families Reach Their Dreams!

Eunita established ATWINDS FOUNDATION, INC. a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2007 to foster families to become productive citizens of society. As a business teacher, founder and president her motto is “A Teacher’s Work Is Never Done Services.” She believes in helping families in and outside of the school doors. For example, she raised her former student who had to care for her twins. Her former student was alone after the sudden death of her mother. She also shares her tragic medical error story with students and parents to raise medical record awareness in hoping to save lives. Eunita educates the public on how to request their medical records, exam them for errors and their rights. She feels that people should have the same attitude about medical errors just as credit reports errors.

Eunita was instrumental in the nomination of the Chamber of Commerce 2007 Business Philanthropy Award for the hands-on relocation of a Hurricane Katrina family. She found this family by searching the internet for a family to Bless. Her organization was able to relocate a disabled mother and her family from Maryland to North Carolina within 2 months of her contacting them. The young mother was paralyzed during a domestic violence incident. As a result, her parents moved her to New Orleans to care for her and her son. However, 6 months later when Hurricane Katrina hit, the family was displaced in Maryland and struggled financially due to the high cost of living. Because of the organization resources and dedication to the aforementioned family, the mother is now the proud owner of a new 3-bedroom single-family home in a newly developed community in North Carolina. Her parents continue to care for her and her son. Eunita was also selected “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” in 2006, and received the “Children Advocacy Award” in 2005/2006 for he dedication and hard work as a foster parent. She has served as a Hysterectomy Education panelist and was a guest on a national radio talk show. In addition, Channel 9 and a North Carolina newspaper named her “good Samaritan” due to the relocation of a disabled Hurricane Katrina survivor. Black Perfections LLC is launching The Virtual Village Network February 2008, a virtual venue to network, educate, entertain, host events, support and promote African-American businesses, organizations and to collaborate on a national level to address the concerns of our communities.

The Virtual Village is an interactive venue and is perfect for educating children and adults, nationally, by creating virtual book clubs, tutoring, collaborative meetings, movies, meeting and greeting authors, healthy live style living, financial awareness, just to name a few

The Virtual Village provides the perfect features for communication such as web casting, audio via VOIP, phone or computer speakers, chat, website sharing, annotation, graphs, slide show presentation and much more.

To keep the attendees focused and engaged additional features allow for the educator to control chat and microphones, the mute option allows for silence while a presentation or class is in session. Feed back tools from attendees include poll questions, questionnaires as well as the ability to download documents for each attendee. Raised hand icon allows the presenter to choose attendees one at a time for a Q & A session.

Each room in the Virtual Village holds 1200 attendees or it can be as intimate as 50. With that in mind educators/non profit organizations can supplement their incomes by charging a modest fee for the class that they are teaching. Examples are if you want to teach adults how to use excel spread sheets, or how to achieve financial independence, for a fee of .50 cents per 1200 attendees per session your net is $600.00.

With that being said, membership for the Virtual Village Network is Free!

Members can use the Virtual Village Network Venue for $15.00 per hour non profits for $10.00 per hour. Non members pay a fee of $20.00 per hour per day.

What Does it Mean to Me?
The Economic Stimulus Package – The Breakdown

As a tax preparer, I have received several calls regarding the Economic Stimulus package that has been making headlines over the last several days. Most people want to know the bottom line – “what’s coming to me?” So here are the basic, bare bones answers that I’ve been giving my clients regarding the Economic Stimulus Package.


How much?
Up to $600 for Individuals
Up to $1,200 for couples.
An additional $300 for each dependent child.

Who?
To get the maximum $600 (or $1,200 payment for couples), people must have paid federal income taxes in 2007 and had earned income of at least $3,000.

Those who made at least $3,000 but didn't pay any federal income tax would get $300 per individual ($600 per couple).

Income limits
Phase out begins at an adjusted gross income (that’s line #37 from your Form 1040) of $75,000 for individuals and couples with incomes of more than $150,000.

Adjusted gross income higher than $87K (or $174K for couples)? Unless you have children, you are not eligible. Income caps will be slightly higher if you have children, but those numbers aren’t available yet.

When?
The first checks could start going out in May. Most people should have them by July.

The fine print
I’ve seen both that this is an advance (like the one back in 2003) and that this is a refund (like we paid for an expensive and inefficient government and some of the purchase price is being refunded!). So, we’ll have to wait for the specifics on this.

Then how will they know who is eligible?
The government will go by the returns filed this spring for tax year 2007.

If you’ve moved!
Notify the IRS by doing one of two things
1. File your 2007 taxes and use your new address. The IRS will automatically update your address. Or,
2. Completing Form 8822, the address change request form http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8822.pdf or order it by calling (800) 829-3676.

What are you doing with the money?
This is not a windfall folks. The Feds are handing out this money (quiet possibly next year’s money, I might point out –again) for one reason and one reason only….to get you to spend it! If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, so what! Get that flat screen! If you are drowning in debt, who cares! Go on that vacation! Sacrifice your children’s future for the good of the country! Why else would they give this money to people who don’t even pay taxes (those who’ve made less than $3,000)?

Smart moves
• Pay down any credit card debt
• Save it for an emergency.
I’ll be putting mine right into my Roth IRA!

Small business owners!
Business will get some tax breaks too.
• 50% bonus depreciation on new equipment in the year that it is placed in service.
• Small businesses are currently able to take tax deductions on the first $125,000 they spend on new equipment (The Section 179 expense). That will be raised to $250,000.

Homeowners!
A one-year increase in Freddie Mac's and Fannie Mae's conforming loan limits to $729,750, and a permanent increase in the FHA loan limit to $729,750 is included in the package.

Why it matters – Loans above $417,000 are classed as “jumbo” loans which carry higher interest rates. By raising the limits, more homeowners will qualify for government –backed mortgage loans.

Higher loan limits, will mean:
• Many homeowners will be able to refinance into more affordable loans
• Fewer borrowers will have to turn to subprime loans – especially when they can get lower interest loans from the FHA.

There are a lot different thoughts and predictions about what this whole package will do. I think that it’s ironic that there have been millions of dollars spent on Public Service Announcements that encourage saving. Tax laws are partial to those of us who put money into our 401(k)s and IRAs. Years of harping over the fact that Social Security will no longer exist in a couple of decades. Now all of a sudden those of us in the “barely making it” income bracket are supposed to spend, spend, spend….hmm, but that’s just me.

Why is it that a Black Man can design a place for the high authorities to meet in and a place for the president to live in (The Capital & the White House - Phillip Reid (a slave) & Pierre L'Enfant), but not good enough to lead these meetings or live in himself?
Why is it that a Black Man was brilliant enough to do the first open heart surgery (Dr. Daniel Hale Williams) and show the world how to get and preserve plasma (Dr. Charles Drew), but not good enough to put a program in place where everyone can afford this surgery.
Why is it that a Black Man was creative enough to design an instrument (traffic light - Garrett Morgan) to bring multiple people (traffic) to a Halt, but not seen creative enough to design a plan to bring all this unnecessary and worthless fighting between countries to a halt?.
Why is it that a Black Man could create the soles (shoes - Jan Matzeliger) that people walk on everyday, but not seen good enough to fill the shoes of a bad president?
Why is it that a Black Man was smart enough and brave enough to teach himself (Fredrick Douglas &Thomas Fuller - both slaves) and others how to read, write and/or calculate math, but not seen smart enough and bold enough to calculate a platform to be President to a country that sure needs another first by us?

Saquan Stimpson, Photographer originally from the Bronx, now Currently residing in Newark Delaware. While attending The High School Of Art and Design, I made up my mind to become an artist of some type - due to my knowing two teachers, who greatly influenced my decision - Ira Merit and Roy Biles. The funny thing is, I wasn't officially in Mr. Biles class, however I would stop in from time to time, so thank you for not kicking me out.

After graduating from college in 2001, I bought a Nikon Cool Pix 5000 Digital Camera, and started taking photos for fun, until a friend from Pennsylvania suggested that I take it more seriously. So a few years later, I got my hands on Mamiya 7II, which was used mainly use for Black and white shooting. I love what I do; I have images in my head that the people need to see.

Concerning Photography: I don't really like to interpret my style - I'd rather let the person interpret my work for themselves; however if I had to interpret my own style, I would say that my style is an Photo journalistic style. I shoot 95% of my shots using natural lighting and rarely do I use makeup. I'm not into creating fantasies - the world isn't a fantasy. The way you see it is the way that I "eye" saw it. Most of all my work you see in my portfolio is shot with a Canon EOS 20D.

Let's Talk about Equipment for a sec; My gear consist of a Canon EOS 20D and Canon EOS 10D, as for Lens i'm working with a Sigma 500MM, Sigma 70-by 210 MM, Tamron 19-by 35MM Wide Angle, Tamron 75-by 300-MM and 35-by 105 Macro lens Mac PowerBook G4, furthermore i have Tripods and Monopod.

My Photography is about respect. Respect for the craft, respect for history, respect for the integrity of your images. I don't like to follow fads, using the same gear and techniques as everyone else. The method is about crafting images that are as ageless as your bond, images that hold their power and emotion long after trends have come and gone.

I take the artisan's approach. Choose the best tools for the moment. Create something eternal. Be innovative. Stand on the shoulders of those that have come before; I blend in and avoid directing the action, capturing splendor and authenticity as they happen. I truly believe that there is beauty in the unscripted, that the truth of the moment is lost when the photographer intervenes.

How do I book you?
You will need to complete and sign a contract and pay me the non-refundable retainer fee. Bookings are done on a first-come first-served basis. Dates will not be held in any other manner.

Can you shoot formal portraits?
Yes. I would suggest minimizing the number of these so that you can enjoy the rest of your day with your family and friends.

Is there a limit to the number of pictures you take?
No. For 8 hours of coverage, I will present you with a minimum of 500 great photographs.

Do you do retouching?
Yes, any photograph can be retouched such as removing blemishes or distracting elements. This additional work may delay your receiving the final prints.

Do we get proofs?
All proofing is done online. There are no printed proofs.

Do we get the images on a CD?
Yes. You will receive a CD or DVD with high resolution files of all your pictures when you receive your completed album.

Do you mind our guests taking pictures?
Not at all. Those moments will further enhance your memories of the day.

Do you have backup equipment?
Yes. We have Camera, if not more, of every important piece of equipment (camera bodies, lenses, flash units, hard drives, etc.).

Do you travel?
Yes. We do travel, however, if we are not staying locally to the venue, we would deduct traveling time from the coverage time. Accommodation costs would be extra.
