Fw: Blockbuster's "Grillz" w/pic and ethical conduct‏

In case you don't know. MOST black people don't have grills. In fact, most black people find grills repulsive and DO NOT ENCOURAGE THEIR CHILDREN TO GET THEM!!!. You may also be unaware that most African Americans are productive members of society; that work hard and want the best for their children. I would expect to be confronted with this type of corruptive influence if I were taking my children to an undesirable part of town or exposing them to explicit music or videos.; That is why I go out of my way to minimize their exposure to such influences.

We parents fight an uphill battle in trying to prevent our children from subscribing to mentalities that will prove counterproductive for them as they develop in life. You may feel that this point is overstated; but I want you to consider that fact that when our young, impressionable children see this type of product marketed by a mainstream establishment such as yours; it makes it much more mentally palatable to them because it's being offered at a "respectable establishment" It helps such mentalities creep in under radar. There are plenty of elements in our society that are working overtime to provide corruptive influences for our children; they don't need any help from Blockbuster.

Blockbuster should stick to renting and selling movies. You are obviously very good at it and I don't see why you should associate yourself with something as tasteless and offensive as this just to make a few extra dollars. Boldly marketing a product that exploits some of the worst stereotypes in our community is no way for Blockbuster to show faithful customers appreciation for their business. I am deeply offended by this product and would like it removed from the shelves of Blockbuster. When you move your stores into our communities; you enter into a partnership with the community; one that includes mutual respect and high community standards. Don't market a product to my children that you wouldn't like your children using. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Sincerely,

Chris Jeffries

Blockbuster, we DEMAND respect and a higher standard.

On September 5, 2007, I went to my local Blockbuster Video(3615 Flakes Mill Road, Decatur, GA 30034-5218). I was really shocked to find that they were selling 'candy Grillz'. This would be a piece of candy that looks just like a gold or platinum 'grill' (teeth). When you stick the candy portion in your mouth, the outside portion is positioned on your teeth to look like you have all gold or platinum teeth.
There are many things I say I am going to complain about but I end up not doing anything. This really bothered me. At some point we have to have some standards. We get exploited everyday by businesses. Candy GOLD TEETH for our children? I began to wonder how many other Blockbuster Videos are selling them. What neighborhods are they sending these to? I have a suspicion that they don't sell them in every neighborhood.

I contacted the complaint line. A couple days later I received a phone call from a manager named Wendy Freeman. She stated that they came from a national vender that they use and so they would not come off of the shelves. The only assistance she could offer was that she would forward an email to 'Marketing.'

The only phone number she would give me was to the complaint line: 1-800-406-6843
The only email address I could find is the one I forwarded to above.
If this is not offensive to you, please disregard this email. If you find it offensive, please call the number above and let them know that they can keep the candy 'Grillz' that they are trying to exploit our kids with. Also, forward this email to the blockbuster email address below: investor.relations@blockbuster.com
Below are the names of some key people that are getting rich by selling stereotypes in our neighborhoods. Do you think their kids are wearing 'GRILLZ'?

We need to support our brother Michael Vick and write to the judge in this case to show leniency for Vick as a first-time offender. It doesn't matter how much money he has, what's important is that we show as much concernfor him as these animal rights folks are for the dogs. Michael Vick is a human being - a young black man with extraordinary talents. Yes, he committed a crime but it does not merit him spending time in jail for 5 years. Here's what's going on . . .

The federal judge who will sentence Michael Vick has agreed to hear from animal welfare organizations about the specifics of dogfighting.

U.S. Distict Court Judge Henry E. Hudson, in Richmond, will allow the groups to file legal briefs, but not actively participate in the sentencing hearing scheduled for Dec. 10. Eleven animal rights groups collectively filed a court motion Sept. 5 detailing the harm to dogs and recommending a 57-month sentence for Vick.

Send a letter in support of Michael Vick, to sentence him probation, and if not the minumum for a first time offender. The address is below:

Honorable Henry E. Hudson
United States District Court, Eastern Virginia
Lewis F. Powell, Jr., U.S. Courthouse
1000 E. Main St., Suite 305
Richmond, VA 23219-3525

WE NEED TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT FOR MICHAEL. I am going to write letters and not let some group of special interest people take away another brohter's livelihood.

On the 20th,we can do more to show unity than just wearing black and going to Jena or just ralling in our towns. We can be also affective by controlling our dollars on that day and maybe even after that. Black dollars have power and we can show it buy not spending one thin dime on that day. Don't go to the supermarkets, malls, clothing, jewelry stores, McDonalds, Emerils, Red Lobdster,Walmart Target, airlines, hotels and so forth. Make a real difference. Remember the bus boycott. That really made a difference. Sacrifice your time to refrain from spending. Yes go to work but bring your own lunch. Don't go out to lunch or order in. Don't go to Macys or downtown shops for those new Jordons. Also don't go to the movie theaters and listen to these hip hop or pop radio that really don't care for this cause. It's all about the dollar...economy. Let's join together and really make a difference now. Also spread the Jena 6 info by adverising on your vehicle. That is free advertisement...use it!

Hey Mike. Great Job. The Ancestor are moving you buoy! For the past few years I wanted to organize nationally a movement to curb the proliferation of guns in our communities. I've been talking with a few respected folks from the R&B Community and their reaction is that they have seen the killings of to many innocent people in our communities and they are fed up and ready to do something. Our group, the Fr. Paul Washington Community Committee has developed 6 objectives that we will be asking national organizations to sign on to. We are seeking opinion from the Brady Coalition and Cease Fire America on those objectives to make sure that we have something that will make seance to the general public to agree on (in fact, some of those objectives were borrowed from the Brady Coalition). I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday and hope to have Brady's recommendations back by Thursday the 20th. We will be ready to make our move then. One other hot topic that we are attempting to push is a educational instructive curriculum that will be taught on grass roots levels to leaders that involve themselves with the salvation of our youth. That meeting will occur at the end of the month with Stakeholders.
Mike, before ready the following article, I want to share some ridiculous things with you that is going on in Washington DC, the Senate and Congers.
Mike, according to an article that I read on the Brady Campaign website, “The 2nd Amendment clearly states that citizens have the right to own, possess and use firearms in connection with organized militias. Recently in Washington DC, departing from the conclusions of nine other federal circuit courts, Judge Laurence Silberman’s majority opinion in Parker v. District of Columbia found that the Second Amendment right is not limited to the possession and use of firearms in connection with service in organized militias, but rather extends to the personal possession of guns for private purposes like self-defense and hunting. On May 8th, the D.C. Circuit denied rehearing en banc, with Judges Randolph, Rogers, Tatel and Garland voting to grant rehearing.” The District of Columbia has decided to seek an appeal to the United States Supreme Court. Clearly the Judge with his authority re-wrote the 2nd Amendment. Apparently the definition of militia is concurrent with self defense and hunting. Our feeling is that organized militias should own, possess and use firearms
Also Mike, we have to Eliminate the Tiahrt Amendment that is attached to all ATF budgets. The 2006 Tiahrt amendment does these 5 things:

Prevents ATF from publishing reports that use trace data to analyze the flow of crime guns nationally.
Limits local governments' access to ATF trace data.
Prevents law enforcement from accessing trace data outside its geographic jurisdiction.
Generally prevents law enforcement agencies from sharing trace data with one another.
Prevents trace data from being used as evidence in any state license revocation, civil lawsuit, or other administrative proceeding (unless filed by ATF).
We mist put pressure on Congress to eliminate the Tiahrt Amendment from any future legislation.

OK, the last one, please read this astonishing article that appeared on line a few weeks ago.
GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.
About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States , it said.
"There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States , though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said.
India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China , ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people.
Germany, France , Pakistan , Mexico , Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals.
On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States , with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38.
France, Canada , Sweden , Austria and Germany were next, each with about 30 guns per 100 people, while many poorer countries often associated with violence ranked much lower. Nigeria , for instance, had just one gun per 100 people.
"Firearms are very unevenly distributed around the world. The image we have of certain regions such as Africa or Latin America being awash with weapons -- these images are certainly misleading," Small Arms Survey director Keith Krause said.
"Weapons ownership may be correlated with rising levels of wealth, and that means we need to think about future demand in parts of the world where economic growth is giving people larger disposable income," he told a Geneva news conference.
The report, which relied on government data, surveys and media reports to estimate the size of world arsenals, estimated there were 650 million civilian firearms worldwide, and 225 million held by law enforcement and military forces.
Five years ago, the Small Arms Survey had estimated there were a total of just 640 million firearms globally.
"Civilian holdings of weapons worldwide are much larger than we previously believed," Krause said, attributing the increase largely to better research and more data on weapon distribution networks.
Only about 12 percent of civilian weapons are thought to be registered with authorities.
Mike and Family, our spirits are with you all as you travel to Jena. The battle is not over and I see fight at the end of the tunnel but I also see hope because the troops are gathered and ready for the long hull.
Peace,
Michael Washington, 484-680-0099

Dear Micheal Baisden:

My name is Beth Rogers and I reside in Durham, NC. I would like to thank you for taking the time to make this you priority. I am writing to you spread the word on the air to blow up WTVD in Durham, NC. I called WTVD today to see why they were not covering the Jena 6 on the air. Their response was, " this is down in Louisiana and it's not local and it doesn't concern us." I responded, " Well this is something that effects all of us whether it's local or national." I then asked who is the Director and Assistant Director of News Reporting. *Mike, she then hung the phone up on me.* I had to look at the phone and say, " I know she didn't just hang the phone up on me." I just wanted you to know about this young man in Texas who works at a Game Shop. I watched them give him his props on TXCN today (13 Sept 07). What he does is refuses to sale video games to teenagers unless they can prove to him that they are able to read and are making good grades. He also insist that the parents come in the store and verify that their child is progressing well in school. And if a teenager makes all A's, he buys the video games for them from out of his pocket.
Michael I just wanted you to know about him. I don't know his name because I keep missing that portion of the news. But he is someone who needs a shout out and a thank you for contributing to society irregardless of race. He is a young black male by the way. So, we can make a difference. He is exactly what we need as a young leader in today's society.[/COLOR]

Hi, my name is Jeremy Freshwater. I am a 22 year old black male.

I was involved in a car accident at the age of 18. The car i was in belong to my sister and did not have insurance at the time of the accident because a new insurance company was chosen and that insurance policy activated the following day of the accident and would not cover the accident.

The police never asked for my side of the story as to who was at fault for the accident. I was denied an ambulance for my injures and taken straight to jail. I was then sued by the insurance company which belonged to the woman involved in the accident, for the damages caused by the accident. I did not have money for an attorney and I feel I never got a fair chance to state my case to the police or the judge.

The insurance company was awarded $50,000 and the judge threatened that my license would be suspended until the amount awarded was paid. This occurred at the age of 18 and i explained that there was no way possible for them to receive anything close to this because i was a part time student/employee.

I am attending school for Automotive Technology and having a license is vital to my career. I feel that justice is not being served i am not being taught any lesson of any kind, and i am being forced to become an UN-productive citizen because i cannot get a job in my field or find a good job where taking the bus is not an option. I feel that i was and easy target for destruction as a young black male by the judge who is white, The police who were white, and The insurance company. Because they would rather see me become another statistic who does not meet the expectations of people who view us in a negative light Then to actually succeed in life as a productive black male

Any help with my case would be greatly appreciated.

I was just watching CNN and a child was sent home after being kicked off the football team in his underwears by his coach. The young man is only 10 years old. The coach is denying it. What the hell is happening in this world people? I hate to look at the news these days. This is what is being done to our young black males and we sometimes get upset with the way that some of them turn out. Even though this is not a good excuse and situations like this should make them stronger. We have to look at the affects that they are burdoned with at such young ages. (CNN prime news with Erica). I am almost becoming afraid to turn on the television and look at the news. Even though I know that that is not the answer. I just don't understand.

I'm from St. Louis and this happens all the time: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20748375/

ST. GEORGE, Mo. - A suburban St. Louis police sergeant has been put on unpaid suspension, accused of threatening to invent charges against a driver who caught the exchange on videotape.

The driver, Brett Darrow, 20, recorded Friday’s exchange with Sgt. James Kuehnlein with a dashboard videocamera he installed after past run-ins with police. He posted the video online Saturday.

“I wanted everybody to see that this kind of stuff does happen,” Darrow told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in Tuesday’s edition. “I thought if I just go to the chief or whatever, it would just get swept under the rug.”

In the video, Kuehnlein approaches Darrow, who was sitting in a parked car at about 2 a.m. in a commuter lot. Kuehnlein asks for identification.

When Darrow asks whether he did anything wrong, the officer orders him out of the car and begins shouting.

“You want to try me? You want to try me tonight? You think you have a bad night? I will ruin your night. Do you want to try me tonight, young boy?”

Darrow says no.

“Do you want to go to jail for some (expletive) reason I come up with?” the police officer says. Later, Darrow says, “I don’t want any problems, officer.”

After about 10 minutes, Darrow is allowed to go.

Chief criticizes officer's actions on tape
The recording, posted on YouTube.com, brought more than 300 protest calls to St. George Police Chief Scott Uhrig.

“I was very displeased when I saw the actions on the video,” Uhrig said. “My officers are not trained and taught to act like that.”

A listed number could not be found for Kuehnlein for comment.

Uhrig said Kuehnlein stopped to talk to Darrow because police have received reports of thefts from cars in the area. But Uhrig said the officer’s actions and tone were inappropriate.

“Someone either violated the law or they didn’t. You don’t say, I’ll lock you up and then come up with why afterward,” Uhrig said.

People,

Rudolph (Rudy) Clay
Mayor, City of Gary
Gary, Indiana

September 13, 2007

Dear Mayor Clay,

The historic 1963 March on Washington was a magnificent moment in African American history. The many participants from around the country made the rally a tremendous success. The people understood the necessity for unity during that era. After King’s great speech, America realized in order for the white man to live in tranquility, the black man had to live in equal tranquility as well.

Mayor Clay, what transpired last year (2006) in Jena, Louisiana regarding the six young black men probably have Dr. King and other greats turning in their graves. A simple fist fight escalated to the young men facing many years in prison because a racist white District Attorney, Reed Walters did not approve of the young black men’s attempt to integrate Jena High School.

The District Attorney really revealed his true racist colors when he stated he could ruin the lives of the young men with a stroke of his pen. That is exactly what he is attempting to do. That is why it is imperative for the people of this country to converge on Jena, Louisiana next week.

Concerned Citizens Against Violence in Gary are making plans to attend the rally on the 20th of September, 2007 at 9:00 A.M. The rally is being organized by Al Sharpton and many other national black leaders throughout the country.

Mayor Clay, if you can find it in your heart to help finance our trip next week, please do so. There is nothing any of us have to gain but the knowledge of knowing we are making a difference in our crusade to continue Dr. King’s and other great Civil Rights Leader’s legacies.

Thanks Sincerely,

Dwight Taylor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Representatives of several black churches appealed to prosecutors Thursday to pursue hate-crime or civil-rights charges against six white people accused of torturing a black woman over several days.

Logan County prosecutors say they have not ruled out hate-crimes charges but are focusing on the counts already filed, including kidnapping and sexual assault which have tougher maximum sentences. Federal prosecutors, meanwhile, have not sought civil-rights charges.

"The family is aghast and totally devastated by the findings of the Logan prosecutor that this barbaric, heinous, despicable (crime) is not one of racial hatred," said the Rev. Emanuel Heyliger of the Ferguson Memorial Baptist Church in Dunbar.

Logan County Prosecutor Brian Abraham urged patience.

"We're still working the case even today," he said. "I'll make that determination when the investigation is concluded, but I want to focus on the most serious crimes that carry the stiffest penalties."

Authorities also said the fact that Megan Williams knew one of her alleged attackers played a role in their decision not to pursue hate-crime or civil-rights charges at this time. Heyliger, speaking outside the Charleston hospital where Williams is being treated, rejected that explanation.

"Whether she was known by or known to any one of these perpetrators, that is no reason why this case should not be treated as it should, and that is as a hate crime," said Heyliger, who was joined by representatives of another Dunbar church and an association of black churches in Charleston.

Williams, 20, of Charleston, was held captive for more than a week at a ramshackle trailer in Logan County, where she was tortured, sexually assaulted and forced to eat animal droppings, according to criminal complaints.

Her captors choked her with a cable cord, stabbed her in the leg while calling her a racial epithet, poured hot water over her, made her drink from a toilet and beat her, according to the complaints.

West Virginia's hate-crime statute carries a penalty of up to 10 years prison.

Three of the six suspects have been charged with kidnapping, which carries a maximum life sentence, sexual assault, with a 35-year maximum, or both. The most serious crime the other three suspects are charged with, assault during the commission of a felony, carries the same 10-year maximum as a hate crime, but prosecutors say the charges will probably change.

"How can you not charge them with a hate crime and pursue it when it appears to be racially motivated?" asked Bishop Richard Cox, a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

"Every black preacher in that city and every concerned, fair-minded white person in that city ought to get together," Cox said in telephone interview from Ohio, where he is based. "We need to march and protest."

The NAACP said it was monitoring the case. "We expect the authorities to do the right thing in bringing the responsible parties involved in these despicable and heinous events to justice with the full weight of the law," Julian Bond, chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors, said in a statement.

U.S. Attorney Charles T. Miller said by telephone he was not surprised by the criticism.

"Most people, when they see the allegations in this particular case, think, 'Well that's obviously a hate crime. Where are the feds?'" Miller said. "It's very difficult to explain to the general public the nuances of statutes like the civil rights statutes."

The federal code commonly used in hate crimes prosecutions prohibits the use of force or the threat of force in abridging the civil rights of an individual. Those specified rights include voting, enrollment in school, travel between states and the use of establishments serving the public like restaurants.

"There is no federal statute that makes it a crime to hate someone," Miller said. "Nor is there a federal statute that criminalizes conduct that doesn't relate to one of those federally protected activities."

Miller said state charges carry the stiffest penalties possible — life in prison — and state court provides the "best chance of successful prosecution."

Bobby Brewster, 24, and his mother, Frankie Brewster, 49, are charged with kidnapping, and they and Danny J. Combs, 20, are charged with sexual assault, among other counts.

Also charged are Karen Burton, 46, of Chapmanville, her daughter Alisha Burton, 23, and George A. Messer, 27.

All six remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $100,000 bail each. Their defense attorneys either declined to comment or could not be reached Thursday.

Williams did not attend Thursday's news conference. Her parents did, but they declined to comment on the investigation.

Megan Williams is expected to remain in the hospital for a few more days. Her mother said her daughter has not talked about her ordeal in detail yet.

"Mentally, she still wakes up at night crying and making sure I'm near her," Carmen Williams said. "She still hollers, 'Ma, what they did to me was bad.' So the only thing I can do, me and her dad, is just be there for her, to comfort her. We can do nothing more."

The Associated Press generally does not identify suspected victims of sexual assault, but Megan and Carmen Williams agreed to release her name. Carmen Williams said she wanted people to know what her daughter had endured.

Dear Mr. Basiden,
Good evening. I am so happy about the news for Mr. Bell but I think that you should start having a news watch on this story...I live in the New Orleans area and I wanted to watch my evening news for info and the story on the latest Jena 6 developments was not the lead story...it wasn't the second lead off story...try the seventh, matter-of-factly story before the weather. Where is BET? Where are Ebony? Jet? Essence Magazine? Black publications? There needs to be a news watch...they need to be checked on what they do and don't do for our community. I can't be with you on that day but I am going to wear my black all day Thursday!!! FIGHT THE POWER!!!!

This is a fight we cannot afford to run from. Racism and injustice continued to this long because of cowardness and lack for concern. We have been selfish for too long. it is time to give a care. To here that there is SLAVERY of blacks still going on in 2007 in rural towns in Louisiana and other confedertes states and nothing ever been done about it. When I heard the story of the woman Mae in Louisiana it brought me to tears. She told the story with so much pain in her voice. But thank God somebody is now listening and doing something about it. People it takes one fight at a time. It takes all of us. Keep the spirit and faith.

I am grateful for the comming together of our people to support the Jenna 6 issues. We have another issue to discuss right here in New York, the borough of Staten Island. Could you believe that they have schools out here where they are a total of 385 students in the entire school with only 18 blacks, or some schools with only 3 black children? The schools on the south shore of the Island have smaller class rooms and school enrollments, but on the North shore forget it there are 700 to 1,200 enrollments. They acknowledge that they are not teaching your children and when you voice your disatisfication, they threaten to place your child in restrictive special education placements. We need to address the special education system because this is the first instituion of discrimination that they want to introduce our children to.

Cities cracking down on saggy pants

By MATTHEW VERRINDER, Associated Press WriterSun Sep 16, 2:35 PM ET

It's a fashion that started in prison, and now the saggy pants craze has come full circle — low-slung street strutting in some cities may soon mean run-ins with the law, including a stint in jail.

Proposals to ban saggy pants are starting to ride up in several places. At the extreme end, wearing pants low enough to show boxers or bare buttocks in one small Louisiana town means six months in jail and a $500 fine. A crackdown also is being pushed in Atlanta. And in Trenton, getting caught with your pants down may soon result in not only a fine, but a city worker assessing where your life is headed.

"Are they employed? Do they have a high school diploma? It's a wonderful way to redirect at that point," said Trenton Councilwoman Annette Lartigue, who is drafting a law to outlaw saggy pants. "The message is clear: We don't want to see your backside."

The bare-your-britches fashion is believed to have started in prisons, where inmates aren't given belts with their baggy uniform pants to prevent hangings and beatings. By the late 80s, the trend had made it to gangster rap videos, then went on to skateboarders in the suburbs and high school hallways.

"For young people, it's a form of rebellion and identity," Adrian "Easy A.D." Harris, 43, a founding member of the Bronx's legendary rap group Cold Crush Brothers. "The young people think it's fashionable. They don't think it's negative."

But for those who want to stop them see it as an indecent, sloppy trend that is a bad influence on children.

"It has the potential to catch on with elementary school kids, and we want to stop it before it gets there," said C.T. Martin, an Atlanta councilman. "Teachers have raised questions about what a distraction it is."

In Atlanta, a law has been introduced to ban sagging and punishment could include small fines or community work — but no jail time, Martin said.

The penalty is stiffer in Delcambre, La., where in June the town council passed an ordinance that carries a fine of up to $500 or six months in jail for exposing underwear in public. Several other municipalities and parish governments in Louisiana have enacted similar laws in recent months.

At Trenton hip-hop clothing store Razor Sharp Clothing Shop 4 Ballers, shopper Mark Wise, 30, said his jeans sag for practical reasons.

"The reason I don't wear tight pants is because it's easier to get money out of my pocket this way," Wise said. "It's just more comfortable."

Shop owner Mack Murray said Trenton's proposed ordinance unfairly targets blacks.

"Are they going to go after construction workers and plumbers, because their pants sag, too?" Murray asked. "They're stereotyping us."

The American Civil Liberties Union agrees.

"In Atlanta, we see this as racial profiling," said Benetta Standly, statewide organizer for the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia. "It's going to target African-American male youths. There's a fear with people associating the way you dress with crimes being committed."

By SAM DILLON
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — After white parents in this racially mixed city complained about school overcrowding, school authorities set out to draw up a sweeping rezoning plan. The results: all but a handful of the hundreds of students required to move this fall were black — and many were sent to virtually all-black, low-performing schools.
Black parents have been battling the rezoning for weeks, calling it resegregation. And in a new twist for an integration fight, they are wielding an unusual weapon: the federal No Child Left Behind law, which gives students in schools deemed failing the right to move to better ones.
“We’re talking about moving children from good schools into low-performing ones, and that’s illegal,” said Kendra Williams, a hospital receptionist, whose two children were rezoned. “And it’s all about race. It’s as clear as daylight.”
Tuscaloosa, where George Wallace once stood defiantly in the schoolhouse door to keep blacks out of the University of Alabama, also has had a volatile history in its public schools. Three decades of federal desegregation marked by busing and white flight ended in 2000. Though the city is 54 percent white, its school system is 75 percent black.
The schools superintendent and board president, both white, said in an interview that the rezoning, which redrew boundaries of school attendance zones, was a color-blind effort to reorganize the 10,000-student district around community schools and relieve overcrowding. By optimizing use of the city’s 19 school buildings, the district saved taxpayers millions, officials said. They also acknowledged another goal: to draw more whites back into Tuscaloosa’s schools by making them attractive to parents of 1,500 children attending private academies founded after court-ordered desegregation began.
“I’m sorry not everybody is on board with this,” said Joyce Levey, the superintendent. “But the issue in drawing up our plan was not race. It was how to use our buildings in the best possible way.” Dr. Levey said that all students forced by the rezoning to move from a high- to a lower-performing school were told of their right under the No Child law to request a transfer.
When the racially polarized, eight-member Board of Education approved the rezoning plan in May, however, its two black members voted against it. “All the issues we dealt with in the ’60s, we’re having to deal with again in 2007,” said Earnestine Tucker, one of the black members. “We’re back to separate but equal — but separate isn’t equal.”
For decades school districts across the nation used rezoning to restrict black students to some schools while channeling white students to others. Such plans became rare after civil rights lawsuits in the 1960s and ’70s successfully challenged their constitutionality, said William L. Taylor, chairman of the Citizens’ Commission on Civil Rights.
Tuscaloosa’s rezoning dispute, civil rights lawyers say, is one of the first in which the No Child Left Behind law has become central, sending the district into uncharted territory over whether a reassignment plan can trump the law’s prohibition on moving students into low-performing schools. A spokesman, Chad Colby, said the federal Education Department would not comment.
Tuscaloosa is not the only community where black parents are using the law to seek more integrated, academically successful schools for their children.
In Greensboro, N.C., students in failing black schools have transferred in considerable numbers to higher-performing, majority-white schools, school officials there said. A 2004 study by the Citizens’ Commission on Civil Rights documented cases in Florida, Indiana, Tennessee and Virginia where parents were moving their children into less-segregated schools.
Nationally, less than 2 percent of eligible students have taken advantage of the law’s transfer provisions. Tuscaloosa, with 83,000 residents, is an hour’s drive west of Birmingham. During court-ordered desegregation its schools roughly reflected the school system’s racial makeup, and there were no all-black schools.
But in recent years the board has carved the district into three zones, each with a new high school. One cluster of schools lies in the east of the city; its high school is 73 percent black.
Another cluster on Tuscaloosa’s gritty west side now amounts to an all-black minidistrict; its five schools have 2,330 students, and only 19 are white. Its high school is 99 percent black.
In contrast, a cluster of schools that draw white students from an affluent enclave of mansions and lake homes in the north, as well as some blacks bused into the area, now includes two majority-white elementary schools. Its high school, Northridge, is 56 percent black.
At a meeting in February 2005, scores of parents from the two majority white elementary schools complained of overcrowding and discipline problems in the middle school their children were sent to outside of the northern enclave.
Ms. Tucker said she, another board member and a teacher were the only blacks present. The white parents clamored for a new middle school closer to their homes. They also urged Dr. Levey to consider sending some students being bused into northern cluster schools back to their own neighborhood, Ms. Tucker said. Dr. Levey did not dispute the broad outlines of Ms. Tucker’s account.
“That was the origin of this whole rezoning,” Ms. Tucker said.
Months later, the school board commissioned a demographic study to draft the rezoning plan. J. Russell Gibson III, the board’s lawyer, said the plan drawn up used school buildings more efficiently, freeing classroom space equivalent to an entire elementary school and saving potential construction costs of $10 million to $14 million. “That’s a significant savings,” Mr. Gibson said, “and we relieved overcrowding and placed most students in a school near their home. That’s been lost in all the rhetoric.”
Others see the matter differently. Gerald Rosiek, an education professor at the University of Alabama, studied the Tuscaloosa school district’s recent evolution. “This is a case study in resegregation,” said Dr. Rosiek, now at the University of Oregon.
In his research, he said, he found disappointment among some white parents that Northridge, the high school created in the northern enclave, was a majority-black school, and he said he believed the rezoning was in part an attempt to reduce its black enrollment.
The district projected last spring that the plan would move some 880 students citywide, and Dr. Levey said that remained the best estimate available. The plan redrew school boundaries in ways that, among other changes, required students from black neighborhoods and from a low-income housing project who had been attending the more-integrated schools in the northern zone to leave them for nearly all-black schools in the west end.
Tuscaloosa’s school board approved the rezoning at a May 3 meeting, at which several white parents spoke out for the plan. One parent, Kim Ingram, said, “I’m not one who looks to resegregate the schools,” but described what she called a crisis in overcrowding, and said the rezoning would alleviate it. In an interview this month, Ms. Ingram said the middle school attended by her twin seventh-grade girls has been “bursting at the seams,” with student movement difficult in hallways, the cafeteria and locker rooms.
Voting against the rezoning were the board’s two black members and a white ally.
Dan Meissner, the board president, said in an interview this month that any rezoning would make people unhappy. “This has involved minimal disruption for a school system that has 10,000 students,” he said.
But black students and parents say the plan has proven disruptive for them.
Telissa Graham, 17, was a sophomore last year at Northridge High. She learned of the plan last May by reading a notice on her school’s bulletin board listing her name along with about 70 other students required to move. “They said Northridge was too crowded,” Telissa said. “But I think they just wanted to separate some of the blacks and Hispanics from the whites.”
Parents looking for recourse turned to the No Child Left Behind law. Its testing requirements have enabled parents to distinguish good schools from bad. And other provisions give students stuck in troubled schools the right to transfer. In a protest at an elementary school after school opened last month, about 60 black relatives and supporters of rezoned children repeatedly cited the law. Much of the raucous meeting was broadcast live by a black-run radio station.
Some black parents wrote to the Alabama superintendent of education, Joseph Morton, arguing that the rezoning violated the federal law. Mr. Morton disagreed, noting that Tuscaloosa was offering students who were moved to low-performing schools the right to transfer into better schools. That, he said, had kept it within the law.
Dr. Levey said about 180 students requested a transfer.
Telissa was one of them. She expects to return this week to Northridge, but says moving from one high school to another and back again has disrupted her fall.
One of Telissa’s brothers has also been rezoned to a virtually all-black, low-performing school. Her mother, Etta Nolan, has been trying to get him a transfer, too.
“I’m fed up,” Ms. Nolan said. “They’re just shuffling us and shuffling us.”

IMMIGRATION RIGHTS GROUPS CLAIM POLICE CAPTAIN KIDNAPPED GUEST WORKERS
Just got this press release over the transom. These are pretty serious allegations. I'm not a believer in trying people via the Internet, but the charges certainly should be investigated to see if there is anything to them. I also know that MIRA and ACLU are groups that are serious and credible and not likely to trump up baseless allegations and I would imagine you'll be hearing more about this story.

Just as we were sold out by our own people so many moons ago it is transpiring now (america being our own). Thank you for that info now it all is becoming clear to me. Very, very clear. Some people really don't have a clue as to how things have been unfolding. The NAFTA Super Highway is being used to transport illegal drugs & money legally. But the public receives the negative news about this because they arrest the middle man that doesn't have a clue that he has been set-up to bring the stuff in America only for the police (government) to put it back on the street to mess up our people, ask yourself were does all the pounds of drugs go when they show it all over the news “We just confiscated 2,000 pounds of crack from Bobby Martinez,” the government is greedy and is making their money, honey. This sounds like a movie but it is ALL true. THANK GOD FOR MY ANCESTORS. BUT THERE IS HOPE FOR THE RIGHTEOUS & FAITHFUL!

Michael there need to be a discussion on the unfair sentencing guidelines and the extremely long prison terms for non-violent offenders. Also the ways the government go by to obtain indictments and co-operating witnesses. The facts are the Grand Jury meets in secret, only hearing the so-called evidence from the prosecution ONLY. There would not be as many indictments if the accused had the oppertunity to show otherwise. You really are guilty until proven innoncent. The agents and prosecuters use people to fabricate stories to fit the case they trying to make. They do this by scare tactics and promises of jail time for them or someone they care about, they CAN and WILL make good of these promises reguardless of guilt. They say you have the right to go to trial, what they don't tell you is, if you decide to go to trial they will lose you to an extremely long sentence usually from 20 years to LIFE. LIFE in the feds means til there is no more breath in your body. Do you think most people would want to take a chance to prove their innocence, knowing "that" jury and those manipilated liars are against them ready to convict them and give them that DEATH sentence? Keep in mind "that jury" comes from the suburbs where they believe anyone with charges brought upon them must be guilty. That is why the federal conviction rate is 98%. Please help us they are destroying us. They have the nerve to tell you to help them, even if you are not involved in illegal activities. And to specifically tell you what kinds of drugs they want or do not want. I thought wrong is wrong. there's so much more. I can tell you how it works in detail, unfortunately time is of the essence because I too am one of those awaiting a bogus indictment mainly because I didn't have anything to offer them. Michael lets stop this geonicide, stop the hurt I see in myfamily's eyes. I am a married father of 4, I don't want anyone else to feel the hurt me and my family feel. Jena 6 is the start lets continue. Go to http://.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/snitch/etc there are different interviews with people who cooperated and were railroaded and lied to to get their cooperation. Those are different parts of what I'm talking about. Some interviews are with: "Tony", Ronald Rankins and Clarence Aaron. theres also data on the drug laws and the mandatory minimums. There's a group called FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums) they are trying but they need help. Wilson — The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People held another rally Sunday night for James Johnson. He was accused of the 2004 murder of a Wilson teenager.

Investigators said Johnson and Kenneth Meeks kidnapped Brittany Willis, 17, from a parking lot and robbed, raped and shot her in a field on Westshire Drive near the Brentwood Shopping Center.

Meeks pleaded guilty to the crime in April 2006 and is serving a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. He said he acted alone. Meeks was 16 at the time of the crime, so he was ineligible for a death sentence.

Johnson has been in jail for nearly three years. He has always proclaimed his innocence.

NAACP officials said they believe Johnson was wrongly accused of rape and murder. More than 100 people filled the Trinity AME Zion Church Sunday to show their support for Johnson.

“The facts say no, the evidence says no, but the system keeps right on saying yes,” said the Rev. Dr. William Barber, president of the North Carolina NAACP.

Court records showed no DNA match to Johnson, and he passed a polygraph, but the district attorney in the case is moving forward.

“There has been a murder and a conviction. Now, we must prevent a lynching,” Barber said.

While Wilson County District Attorney Howard Boney Jr. said he will not comment on the case, NAACP leaders said they are prepared to fight. This week, they called for the state bar to investigate the prosecutor in the case. They're also collecting signatures to take to the governor next week.

“It’s a mistake or it is a deliberate attempt to create an injustice. I can’t tell which it is. I don’t know,” said UNC Law Professor Richard Rosen. “But I do believe [Johnson] should not be prosecuted for murder.”

Johnson’s trial begins Sept. 24.

I live in Baltimore, MD. Today for the first time the city's local tv stations had an indepth story about the Jena 6. The way they were describing this story was like even they believe this was a crock of bull. I will not be able to go to Jena, but I will be wearing black & I am encouraging others to wear it as well. In my opinion those boys are political prisoners. Those boys stood up for what was right & was thrown in jail for it. I call it a modern day lynching. I become enraged when I see our best & brightest have their lights dimmed because of ignorance & fear of others. Don't get me wrong a one our kids attend college or working at McDonalds. We have to protect them. I pray to GOD that we will not stop with these boys but face injustice where ever it occurs.

Injustice with African Americans are running it's course all over America. Let me share my story.
I served as the only black Police Chaplain in Tustin California (orange County) for over 4 years. This agency got upset when I was pulled over with my family by a neighboring agency while driving our new car. I asked the officer for the reason, and replied these types of cars are stolen in this area all the time. We had just come from dinner and were all dressed extremely well. This cop asked for my license for my license and registration. When I showed him my license he saw my badge and commented "why didn't you show me the badge? I then contacted my watch commander and told him what happened, he advised me to let it go because of the relationship building they were doing with the other agency. So I called the officers agency and told him what happened and informed him that he may want to look in to some cultural sensitivity training which went no where. Several month's later I was contacted by my agency and told that their chaplaincy program was going in another direction and would no longer need my services. After that, 2 of their detectives came to my known address(a PO box while my house was being built) and informed me that they wanted back all of the gear ie..uniform, jackets etc... I informed those 2 that everything I owned was in storage and as soon as it was out I would locate their property and return it to them. They filed a complaint in court and issued a warrant for my arrest. Just slight of a month in our new home, they sent out 8 unmarked cars who arrested me as I was leaving for work. They booked me for Embezzlement(all public record) I spent several hours in jail and was bailed out. As chaplain, my job was to minister to the cops. I had consulted with them regarding their marriages, divorces, excessive drinking problems, promotions, and other serious situations many of them had.
Now I’m faced with a trial that can ruin the credibility I’ve worked so hard to instill in my family and this community.
I am an ordained minister, a strong family man married for 28 years with 3 great children, a successful business owner, Never been in any legal trouble, and am confused as hell about what to do. We live in a county where there are only 1 % blacks and I fear that a fair trial will not happen. In Jena the racism is open and blatant, in Cali it's silent but deadly. I NEED HELP!!!!!!

Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson - have said they have fund-raising or other scheduling conflicts and will not attend the nationally televised forum in Baltimore on Sept. 27. I guess these candidates don't think that Blacks vote. In this day and age we as a people are still struggling for equality. Our war is against prejudices and fear.

Our skin range from the fairest to the darkest hue. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One drop of black blood and we are discriminated against. The goal is to make us feel inferior and for our spirits to be broken. Our hopes and dreams to be destroyed.

Yet we stand tall and strong. We come together as a force of nature called Family. No Katrina or Rita can measure to the strength of the family. What has been torn down can be rebuilt.

The insurances won't pay because of their fight over wind or flood. The banks won't loan because you're Black and you need it. And yet we put our money in those banks.

Our creative force can rebuild and make even more grand.

We are harrassed by all. If you go pay that ticket ever wonder way so any people of color are there paying outrageous fines.

We need to think about what we do. Have you every asked the question why?

If you are on welfare or on fixed income, why would you have a checking account and know checks will bounce because you don't have enough to ccover your cost of living. The bank ends up getting half of your money each month. If you must, have your money deposited in a savings only. You can draw out what you need for a much smaller fee. Get a green dot debit card if you must have a credit/debit card. Better yet why put your money in any bank who won't lend to you.

Don't be a casino or lotto crackhead. Play responsibly.

Don't drive unlicensed. The computer knows who you are.

Be proud of who you are because you are a creation of God.

Don't give up on your dreams because without them you are not who you as the creative being you are meant to be.

Stay strong and focused.

Support each other, buy each other's products.

We are constantly being taxed and dealing with outrageous finances to keep us down and upset. High rents, utlities and bills keep us oppressed. We must rise above the deceit and see the light.

Stop hurting each other. We should be able to get together at our clubs and socialize without fear of fights breaking out and gun shots fired. We have been our own worse enemy.

These are some thoughts as we fight against the injustices that this society has imposed upon us. I heard that the jails are built according to how many
black males are born. Hopefully, this is a myth.

In this day and age we are at war...

I wrote to Barack Obama a few weeks ago about this travesty of justice and why we had not heard anything from him and this is what he sent back to me last night:

Dear Rochelle:

Thank you for contacting me about the Jena Six in Louisiana. I appreciate hearing from you and understand your concerns and mounting frustration with this matter. Racial discrimination and injustice under the law is an issue I also take very seriously.

In the case of the Jena Six, six black high school students at Jena High School in central Louisiana were arrested last December after a school fight in which a white student was beaten up. The fight took place after a black student sat under a tree near the school where white students typically sat. The next morning, three nooses were found hanging from the tree.

Three white students were discovered to be the culprits behind this heinous deed, but instead of being expelled or arrested, they were given in-school suspensions. Needless to say, many in the community were outraged by this decision. Three days after the nooses were hung, a few black students on the football team decided to organize a silent protest under the tree. The principal soon a called an assembly and summoned the police and District Attorney Reed Walters, but many students left feeling threatened. Fights erupted throughout the fall and early winter between black and white students, and on November 30th, someone even tried to burn down Jena High School.

On December 4th, a white student named Justin Barker was attacked by a group of black students in the school courtyard. Though he suffered a concussion and multiple bruises, the doctors who examined his wounds found them to be superficial and released him soon after. Six students were arrested and initially charged with aggravated assault. District Attorney Walters, however, increased the charges of five of the students to attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy.

The first student to go on trial, Mychal Bell, whose court-appointed lawyer refused to mount a defense, was convicted of aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy by an all-white jury. On September 4th, a judge dismissed the conspiracy charge and indicated that Bell should have been tried as a juvenile. I was pleased to hear, however, that on September 14th, Bell's battery charge was also overturned by the Louisiana state appeals court. I hope that this decision will lead the prosecutor to reconsider the excessive charges brought against all the teenagers in this case.

Two of the other black students, Carwin Jones and Theo Shaw, also had their charges reduced from attempted murder to aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy. Two others, Robert Bailey Jr. and Bryant Purvis, still face attempted murder charges. The sixth student was charged in a juvenile court and has yet to go to trial.

When nooses are being hung in high schools in the 21st century, it's a tragedy. It shows that we still have a lot of work to do as a nation to heal our racial tensions. This is not just Jena's problem; it is America's problem. There are a number of signs that the system is not working in this case. It is a problem when criminal charges are brought against some students for fighting, but not others. It is a problem when a public defender fails to call any witnesses. And it is a problem when a prosecutor decides to try teenagers as adults for a school fight, a charge that could leave them in jail for the majority of their lives.

That is why I recently joined my colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus in calling on the judge in this case to consider all the aforementioned factors during the sentencing of Mychal Bell. We also appeal to District Attorney Walters to drop the charges against the remaining five students.

Before this matter can be brought to the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice to investigate, local officials must be given a chance to resolve this matter through the ongoing legal process. We hope that the judge will drop the charges against all six young men. If this approach is unsuccessful, however, please be assured that I will give this matter the attention it deserves. A mishandling of justice in this case cannot be tolerated.

Going forward, we have to fix our criminal justice system. It is long past time for us to admit that we have more work to do to ensure that our criminal justice system is fair. We must ensure that both victims and defendants can receive a fair trial and equal justice under the law, regardless of race, wealth, or other circumstances.

Thank you again for writing, and please let me know if there is anything else I can do to address your concerns.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
United States Senator

You HAVE to see this:
Here's a link to a picture of the "Grillz"
http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=190107

JAMES W. KEYES

Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer

LARRY ZINE
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer

NICK SHEPHERD
Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

James W. Keyes is chairman and chief executive officer of Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE: BBI, BBI.B), one of the world's leading providers of in-home movie and game entertainment with reported worldwide revenues of more than $5.5 billion in 2006 and more than 8,000 stores throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

I sent an e-mail to them demanding the removal of this stupid, silly candy. I am not spending my money with them anymore. Trust me, this stupid candy is not in all of their stores. I found a blockbuster in a predominantly Jewish community, and the "Grillz" candy is not being sold there. They are exploiting us to the fullest and we should support our black owned video rental stores. We have them. Respond instead of reacting, and the best way to do that in America is to pull your money out of these large corporations who are getting rich by exploiting us. African-Americans collectively have $799 billion. So trust me, we aren't at anyone's mercy unless we want to be. Peace, love, and blessings.

To whom it may concern:

My son (Mikel Johnson) was ran over by a hit and run car driver in Newton, New Jersey on July 27, 2007. The driver of the vehicle left him incapacitated with two broken legs, a busted knee, and ankle as he fled the scene of the crime.

According to the triage nurse on duty that night, a couple (the driver of the vehicle and possibly my son's baby's mother-Shakia Powell) came into the hospital an hour later asking if my son was dead or alive. In speaking with the driver of the vehicle, he lied on my son stating that he stole his wallet at gunpoint so that he would not get vehicular manslaughter charges for leaving the scene of the accident, with two additional caucasian male passengers.

As a result of the driver (Kyle Wilkinson-Caucasian) filing a false report first, and Mikel Johnson not being able to identify the driver, was denied his legal rights to press charges against the driver. Mikel Johnson was then shackled to the hospital bed while the surgeon's were trying to save his life. He has since been incarcerated under a $75,000 bond with no reduction (being from out of state) with $5,000 attorney fees that I am not able to afford, since July 27, 2007.

Since this incident, No evidence was found supporting the driver's claim of robbery. Also, the driver admitted under a recorded telephone conversation that no wallet was taken and no crime was committed. He just "did not want vehicular manslaughter charges", and has since sold his car to get rid of vehicular evidence. Meanwhile, Kyle Wilkinson has not been detained or charged with hit and run violations leaving the scene of a crime inflicting serious bodily injuries. Mikel Johnson’s next preindictment (of a four year plea of being ran over and lied on) court date is October 22, 2007.

Your assistance and presence is needed for we are concerned for Mikel Johnson's well being, for he is scheduled for another knee surgery soon. When seeking assistance from people in New Jersey, I have dealt with lawyers and public defenders talking very rudely to me in a major way that does not make sense. Please respond back to: Mary Patterson c/o Son (919) 765-0469 or (919) 599-7951 (cell) email:queen2b43@yahoo.com

A Word to the Wise!

I do not advise children spending their money on candy!

Candy rottens the teeth and causes them to get dentures

when they are older and lots of tooth pain.

They should save their money, find a good dentist,

and get their teeth cleaned at least twice a year

or clear coated to help prevent decay!!!

Much love to the readers!

P.S. I will call the toll free Block Buster number and ask them to remove

this candy from the shelf. They need to target another audience here

because this product is not cute!

I've called the FBI and they said they were investigating. I said they should provide a safe place for them and Mychal. They gave on the blog name addtress and phone numbers and said when u see them and Mychal gets out lynch them. Now that is a terristic threat and should be worldwide news. these people need to be out of Jena as soon as possible and the black community should leave knowing that we wiill provide jobs and places to live. This is also the reason why the rally should have stayed until Mychal bell was free. He and many can't continue to live in a racist and violent place where clearly the KKK rrunning the show. It's time to fight. get on the bus or the capital steps to make them do something.

About 7/10 years ago Ed Bradly of 60 minutes interviewed "The Grand Dragan" of the KKK and he (Ed) asked this guy weren't he afraid of what the system would do to him for breaking the law.....his answer was that....he didn't care what the law would do to him that he has done his job.

He said he has in the past 30 years recruited kids that are now in place as Policemans, Judges,Teachers, Lawyers, Doctors and politicians to carry on if anything should happen to him.

I think that interview was "Very Important" for the way thins are going today in this crazy world. I tried to contact Ed Bradly before his death but I didn't work at it 100%. I wish someone would help me locate that transcript in the CBS (60 Minutes) archives. I can't remember the month or year.

January 18, 2007 First Black County Purchasing Agent Resigsn because she made person copies and DA wanted to indict her in less than 2 days before Grand Jury. (Punishment did not fit) Beaumont next to Vidor Texas

July 26, 2007 White County Official Embezzeles Money ($77,000) and case goes to Grand Jury on Thursday, September 20, 2007.
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/HP_Administrator/My%20Documents/Jefferson%20County%20Embezzlement.htm
THE FACTS:
Used county equipment to make personal copies

POSITION: Appointed
County Purchasing Agent hired (appointed) by Purchasing Board in accordance with
Texas Local Government Code 262 (see Exhibit #1)
Responsible for managing Purchasing Department and Print Shop

TIMELINE:
• Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at or about 4:00pm
I returned to my office from Court and my Assistant Purchasing Agent (Deborah Clark) informed me Tim with the District Attorneys Office called and wanted to see me. (I assumed to talk as we usually do about county business.)

Arrived at the District Attorney office and asked the receptionist to tell Tim I had arrived. I go into Tim’s office and we are having a casual conversation. He asks me if I had flyers printed with county equipment and I replied yes. Then he says do you mind if we record the conversation. I said “no I do not mind” because I do not have anything to hide. Well after the conversation, I returned to my office only to learn that a Search Warrant had been issued for the County issued laptop, memory stick and Desktop from my office.

• Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at or about 9:30 am
Arrive to work around 8:30 am contacted a member of the Purchasing Board (Commissioner Mark Domingue) and requested asked if I could visit with him. Upon arriving to his office and discussing the ongoing situation he was deeply saddened about the turn of events. He told me about the options and gave me a copy which the District Attorney (Tom Maness) had discussed would happen (see Exhibit #2). After reading the options, I asked if the Purchasing Board would convene for an Emergency Meeting since he (Commissioner Mark Domingue) is a member and he stated “that he was not certain.” I stated to him that the options provided were rather grave, for such a minor offense and why wasn’t Human Resources involved since this is a first offense. He just gave me the document and said I am sorry but these are your options. The problem with the options given all had Grand Jury attached. I then stated “How can this happen without the Purchasing Board meeting to discuss this personnel issue and not allow me an opportunity for corrective action.

• Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at or about 2:30pm-3:00pm
After reading the options I contacted and hired an Attorney to be advised on allegations. The Attorney (Tom Roebuck) contacts the Jefferson County District Attorney (Tom Maness) and informs him that he has been hired by me (Naomi Lawrence-Lee) to advise me on the allegations. He requested from the District Attorney a week stay prior to taking it to the Grand Jury on tomorrow (Thursday, January 18, 2007 at 10:00am) to allow him an opportunity to understand the issues surround the allegations. The District Attorney stated no stay it is set to go before the Grand Jury in the morning. My Attorney then asked, “Why hasn’t the Purchasing Board not handled the personnel issue” since the Board is responsible for hiring (appointing and removing) the Purchasing Agent. The response was the Grand Jury convenes in the morning and my attorney request what is the cost for the copies. The DA then states $311.00. My Attorney requested a meeting with him in the morning for 8:00am or so Thursday, January 18, 2007. The attorney asked me after hanging up the phone “Who wants you out?” And my reply was “I do not know”…I am at a lost for words.

• Thursday, January 18, 2007 at or about 9:00 am
I received a phone call from my Attorney and asked that I come to his office. He then advises me it would be in my best interest to resign, effective today…Thursday, January 18, 2007 (see Exhibit #3). He also requested I write a check to Jefferson County for the copies in the amount of $311.00 and I did so.

CONCLUSION/ISSUE:
Constructive Discharge and not that I quit because I was dissatisfied with working conditions as stated on the Decision Notice by document received from Texas Workforce Commission.
Please draw attention to this City and its Racist practices.

RACIAL TOLERANCE WALKING TOUR OF OCEANSIDE LONG ISLAND

100 Blacks In Law Enforcement Who Care

Press Release

AFTER BIAS ATTACK OF BLACK AND HISPANIC YOUTH- LAW ENFORCEMENT GROUPS AND THE VICTIM'S FAMILY WILL WALK THROUGH OCEANSIDE LONG ISLAND TO PROMOTE RACIAL/ETHNIC TOLERANCE

For Immediate Release

Press Briefing: 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care joined by the National Latino Officers Association, along with victims of bias crimes and their families will take part in a walking tour of Oceanside, Long Island. The walking tour is in response to the continued criminal prosecution of bias assault victim Aloysius Staton and the unprovoked, un-prosecuted attack of Oswaldo Rivero. In addition to the videotaped unprovoked bias related assault of both Mr. Staton and Mr. Rivero, there have been several other unreported bias incidents in the Oceanside community. After the September 18th press conference regarding the Staton-Olivero incident, it was reported on MY9 News that reporter Nicole Johnson (who is Black), also faced racial hostilility in Oceanside while reporting on the facts of the initial bias attack. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care co-founder Marq Claxton states, “This level of ignorance and racial intolerance cannot be ignored. We have an obligation to defend Aloysius Staton against subjective criminal prosecution and the Constitution offers protection from bigots who attempt to create geographic or social boundaries.” National Latino Officers Association chairman Anthony Miranda states, “The danger of allowing this type of racist cancer to fester is that it will poison those who are in close proximity to it. This community has an obligation to affirmatively address the very serious allegations of racial intolerance and violence.” New York State Senator Eric Adams states, “We cannot allow the actions of a few hate filled individuals to destroy the quality of life for the everyone else. We must respond to racial intolerance anywhere it rears its ugly head. The arrest and prosecution of Aloysius Staton defies logic and taints justice. If we do not commit to protect ALL people from the threat of racism, we betray the legacy of the civil rights movement.”

The story of Aloysius Staton and Oswaldo Rivero needs to be told by the major media, just so they can understand the impact we feel from injustice in this country. It's a shame that we have to fight twice as hard just to be treated as equals. We shouldn't have to fight like this, I really won't call it a fight since it is one sided. A sister on BlackPlanet.com has posted an excellent idea. Calling for a boycott.

We Think: It’s Time For A General Strike!
Friday, September 21st, 2007 @ 3:09 pm | We Think, Civil Rights, Business, Communications, Democrats, Education

As a result of the success of the protest march held in Jena Louisiana on September 20, 2007 to demonstrate citizen displeasure with injustice perpetrated on our young people all across the nation. Knowing now the legal authorities in Jena are adamant about their determination to unfairly punish the Jena Six; keeping in mind the frustration we all feel with the Iraq war, the state of our nation’s health care systems, housing and mortgage issues, education, the lack of useful information provided by our American free press and the fact our president has continually worked in concert with federal legilators to decimate our constitutional rights we agree with Garret Keizer a contributing editor of HARPER’s Magazine.

In the October 2007 issue of HARPER’s Magazine Keizer suggests, and we think it’s a good suggestion, it’s time for a general strike. We’re all fed up with inequality in the justice system as exhibited in the Jena Six matter; we’re all fed up with politicians, like Congressional House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who, display no backbone or desire to go after the Bush-Cheney-Rove administration for their massive abuses and ongoing corruption of our govenrment. The heathcare crisis that affects our elderly citizens and our youngest most vulnerable citizens our hope for the future is a great source of concern as well as frustration. The crisis we face in employment with even professional jobs being sent overseas.

We can do something about this. We can organize and set a strategy to send a message to our government that we will not be doormats any longer!

If we can find out about the winner of American Idol whether we’ve an interest in the trival program’s results or not; if we activists from earlier times who had no Internet, cell phonesnor mass media communications of any kind could stand up for what is right why can we not do the same?

General strikes, as Keizer writes, are not new. Everybody’ s doin’ it. Mexicans demonstrated for more than 6 months because their presidential election was stolen from them; Ukrainians in 2004 held a general strike, even this year 2007 in New Guinea a general strike was held.

So if you are among those who bemoan our national situation by saying, “I’m just sick over what is happening to our country, but I just don’t know what to do.”

We say start planning now for a General Strike…Washington, D.C would be a great location…. November 6, 2007 would be a good day to strike.

Hello Eveyone,
I'm recently a new member to Mingle City and wanted to share some important information in the aftermath of the Jena Six situation.

Here is some information that I came across online soon after Michael Bell's court Appearance on September 20th.

(Check this Out!!!)

*The FBI is looking into a white supremacist Web site that purports to list the addresses of five of the six black teenagers accused of beating a white student in Jena and "essentially called for their lynching," an agency spokeswoman said Saturday.

Sheila Thorne, an agent for the bureau’s New Orleans office, says the bureau "gathered intelligence on the matter" and is reviewing whether the site breaks any federal laws. But she declined to further explain how the agency got involved.

CNN first reported Friday about the Web site, which features a swastika, rampant use of racial slurs, a mailing address in Roanoke, Va., and phone numbers purportedly for some of the teens' families "in case anyone wants to deliver justice."

The Rev. Al Sharpton said in a statement Saturday that some of the families have received "almost around the clock calls of threats and harassment," and called on Gov. Kathleen Blanco to intervene.

“Since our massive rally there have been hangmen nooses found in several cities,” said Sharpton in the statement. “The escalation has been met with a stubborn silence by officials in Jena and we feel the governor must send in State law enforcement to investigate these threats and protect the public.”

“We have confirmed a meeting for Tuesday at noon with House Judiciary Chair Congressman John Conyers in Washington with the parents of Mychal Bell and I to seek federal hearings and intervention,” Sharpton continued. “At the same time, Mychal's attorneys will pursue state remedies for his immediate release. For a Judge to refuse to release him after his conviction was overturned is to hold the system of law in contempt and to further display the raw bias that inspired our involvement and participation in this movement around the Jena Six since early this Summer.”

A spokeswoman for Blanco said the governor had asked law enforcement — primarily state police — to investigate.

Meanwhile, Rev. Jesse Jackson plans to contact President Bush's nominee for attorney general, Michael Mukasey, in hopes that he would consider dispatching federal marshals to watch over the families.

"These people need more than an investigation. They need protection," said Rev. Jackson. "This is a test for the disposition of the Department of Justice to serve as an intervenor and a deterrent" to hate crimes and discrimination.

Carolas Purvis, whose number was among three listed on the Web site, said she did not feel in danger. Purvis is the aunt of Bryant Purvis, who has yet to be arraigned. She said she has received a number of calls, some from people who say nothing, others to let her know that her number had been put on the site. One, Friday night, used the N-word to her young son, she said.

If anyone knows how to contact Micheal Baisden about this for discussion that would be great.

We need to march the Federal Government in to the United Nations and have them (the Congress and Senate) brought up on charges and to stand trial for failing to protect us ( their citizens) lives.

Michael and Family...Thank you for sharing the story about Nailah Franklin. I've been watching the wire today and talked to her cousin (my best friend) earlier this morning. We were both debating if we should leave ATL asap and go to Chicago. It is with an extremely heavy heart that I share with you as of an hour ago they found her body. Please continue to pray for the family and all of us as we try to make sense of this tragic event. I am a big fan of never keeping silent. Please tell your sisters, daughters, family members, and even enemies to share with you whom they're dating, thinking of dating, or even going to get a cup of coffee with. Beyond a text message, as you sit in your car, always keep someone on the phone with you and keep a description of what you're wearing, what they drive, physical description and even his shoe size. Tell it all to at least one person in your life.

While the white media is senationalizing the OJ hotel theft case, this has gone virtually unreported.

This happened in West Virginia , USA very recently and yesterday, Wednesday, 9/12th 2007, Megan Williams was still being treated for this in the hospital.

She was Tortured and Raped for a whole week, by Six White individuals, Three males and Three Females Between the ages of 20 and 49.

CNN normally does not reveal sexual assault victims' names. But Williams, who is hospitalized, and her mother, Carmen Williams, wanted her identity revealed.

Police said Bobby Brewster raped Williams, forced her to lick blood and drink from a toilet, and told his mother to kill Williams if she tried to escape. Authorities previously said Williams was also forced to eat rat and dog feces.

According to criminal complaints filed in the county, Williams was assaulted, stabbed in the left leg, choked with cords and beaten for at least a week. When she was found, big parts of her hair had also been torn off of her scalp. Williams says that Alisha Burton 22 cut her ankle with a knife while saying, "That's what we do to Niggers around here," police records show.

"I don't understand a human being doing another human being the way they did my daughter," Carmen Williams told The Associated Press on Tuesday from her daughter's hospital room. "I didn't know there were people like that out here."

Deputies received a tip and Saturday visited a home owned by Frankie Brewster in Big Creek , West Virginia . As the deputies spoke with a woman on the front porch, "a female inside the residence limped toward the door with her arms held out, saying 'Help me,' " according to a news release from the sheriff's department. "It's something you'd expect to see in a horror movie, not in Logan County ," Abraham said. "She was subjected to unendurable torture down there."

The six are charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and battery. If convicted of kidnapping, a suspect could face a sentence of up to life in prison. The penalty for first-degree sexual assault is 15 to 35 years. Abraham said he is seeking the maximum sentence on the kidnapping charges. In addition to the Brewsters, the suspects are Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, West Virginia; and George A. Messer, 27, Karen Burton, 46, and her daughter, Alisha Burton, 23, all of Chapmanville, West Virginia. "They all have previous records and have been arrested numerous times," Sheriff W.E. Hunter said Tuesday. "They are familiar to law enforcement."
Frankie Brewster was charged with first-degree murder in 1994, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in the death of an 84-year-old woman. She was released in 2000 after serving five years in prison, according to court records cited by the AP. All of the six individuals that are involved in this case are accused of 108 different cases of crimes all combined.
All six were being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, and all requested court-appointed attorneys, the AP reported. Investigators are still looking for two other people suspected of driving Williams to the home, according to the AP.

Carmen Williams had not reported her daughter missing, saying Megan Williams often disappeared for weeks at a time.

Carmen Williams said she is "horrified" by her daughter's injuries. "She wakes up crying, and the first thing she hollers is 'Mommy,' " she said.

Okay guys this something that has disturbed me in the city of Opelousas,La. parish of St. Landry we are about 1hr 45min south of Jena ,La and we mostly have people of color in office , except for this Sheriff who stole the election from an African-American women last year , Thank God the term was only for one year. This is the lastest thing that he is trying to do.

Parish considers tent prison

Housing prisoners in tents is one way to deal with jail overcrowding, so is a tent prison in our future?
Both Sheriff Bobby Guidroz and challenger Johnny Barras seemed to endorse the idea during a political debate this week.

"If our soldiers can stay in tents, so can our people in jail," Barras said.

At the debate, Guidroz went further, announcing he is already in negotiations to acquire five military-style tents, each capable of housing 75 prisoners.
The idea for such a facility comes from a program started by Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in 1993.

Refusing to release inmates because of overcrowding, Arpaio decided to create his unique prison using surplus military tents adjacent to the existing Maricopa County Jail.

That tent prison has since grown to where it can house up to 2,000 inmates today. While the program was initially done at minimal costs, over the years Arpaio has had to add watch towers for security, stun fences around the perimeter, facial recognition computer software for inmate identification, K-9 units and an ever-increasing number of patrol deputies.

Arpaio, who likes to call himself the "toughest sheriff in the United States," has been a constant source of controversy, especially after he reintroduced the use of chain gangs.

His tent prison and other programs have produced another expense for his county, which much defend him from a string of lawsuits for cruel and unusual punishment.

While Guidroz is currently in negotiations with the Louisiana National Guard to acquire tents that could be used for such a facility here, he said it is an idea he is moving on very cautiously for now.

"It is one of a lot of ideas I'm looking at. I haven't ruled anything out," Guidroz said.

At present Guidroz is considering locating one or more such tents on parish land at the airport to house the prisoners for his new work release program.

That program seeks to help prisoners turn their lives around by getting them jobs in the community.

"It is up and running, well, hobbling, right now," Guidroz said. "We are in the process of screening inmates to see who would qualify."

To qualify, the prisoners must have ties to the community, be in for non-violent crimes and be considered a very low flight risk.

But Guidroz said even if such a tent prison facility where to be created, at best it could only be a temporary solution. South Louisiana has one thing Arizona does not - hurricanes - making such a tent prison impractical.

The reason such a facility is even being considered is constant overcrowding, not only in the parish jail but in all the area city jails as well.

"We are busting at the seams. We need a new parish prison," Guidroz told the Parish Council earlier this year. "It is almost a crisis now. We need more jail space."

The current parish jail was built in 1980 to house 212 inmates. When elected last year, Guidroz redesigned the space to increase the capacity to 240 but all the extra beds were filled within days.

He believes the best long-term solution is construction of a new sheriff's facility combined with the creation of the 100- to 500-bed minimum-security prison for the parish.

Creating a new sheriff's office would allow the current jail to be expanded into a 300-bed maximum-security facility.

Guidroz said he believes the 800-cell combination should be enough to handle the parish's jail needs for the next 20 years.

The problem is how to pay for it. Building a new minimum-security facility and relocating the sheriff's offices would involve many millions of dollars.

Guidroz has promised he will not seek a new tax to pay for these improvements.

THIS CAN BE FOUND ON DAILYWORLD.COM UNDER LOCAL NEWS: PARISH CONSIDRS TENT PRISONS.

THIS IS THE COMMENT THAT I SENT BACK TO THE PAPER:

Sorry Mr. Guidroz and others who think this is a good idea,
Come on tent jails , get real. I do not care about you who say " they are just criminals" , well they are people too . We cannot have our parish prisoners in tents. For one, it is not safe , I do not care how non-violent their criminals acts seem to be. It is not 1807 it is 2007. I'd rather pay the taxes than to see this type of foolish being done in my own backyard. I know some of the inmates have made terrible mistakes and our job as a society is not to make a jail sentence easy , but to educate , feed, extend medical /psychological care, and other needs so that when they get released they can return into the world as a better person and maybe they will not become a repeat offender. What about when the winter months come and it is extremely cold or the summer when it is extremely hot?? What will we do when a prisoner dies from these conditions?? It is down right inhumane. Prisoners possess human rights also and if this goes through and something happens to someone I for one hope that the family of the inmate sues St. Landry Parish's pants off. Lastly, we all know who Mr. GuIdroz will put inside of the jail , his own and us PEOPLE OF COLOR, OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WILL BE IN THE TENTS IN THE COLD , WET , RAIN, OR THE SCORCHING HEAT. GOOD LUCK, MS. LAURA WE NEED YOU!!!

My name is Germaine Martin, I have an uncle that was accused of murder in St. Louis, Mo. in 1990, at a young age. He had a public defender that did not properly defend him, his name is Christopher Dunn. He has a web page www.christopherdunn.org, that list his entire struggle with the judicial system. I plan on attending the functions that you are have in Atlanta on the 9th and 10th of November. Is there any info that you could possibly pass on to me or my family in regards to his situation, because 17 years is a very long time to be incarcerated, especially for a crime that we all know that we know for sure that he did not commit. If I had the money( I'm a full-time college student, raising a special needs child on my own)( That's a whole nother topic!) I would hire someone, but I do have a voice that can be heard, so if you could possibly pass on any info, I would surely appreciate it.

I appreciate the passion the brother displayed on the proliferation of firearms in our communities but the elimination of guns will only mean that people will begin to stab each other to death instead. Saying that guns are the reason for all of the murders, death and destruction in our neighborhoods is like saying that hammer and nails are the reason for carpenters. This attitude already existed but it has just begun to bear fruit. If we do not address the feminization of our young men, the lack of positive male role models in their environment, the failing of our educational system and the inability of many families to make an honest living it will be no more than the band aid that the government put on the levies down in the N.O. As for me, I recognize that the right to bear arms is not only about the right to defend the life of your love ones and yourself it is about the right of the people to govern. One of the unique things about being a slave was that you could not own or possess a firearm, touching one would get you killed. Something else to think about, many of the people in the coalitions quoted are multi millionaires that have their own private armies to protect them, as a former professional bodyguard I know what I am talking about. I have also lived through a hurricane which knocked out all of the utilities, shut down the stores and reduced our area to anarchy for one week. I think I'll keep my gun. peace and respect.

If you dog out a black police officer then how can you ecpect for the average person (Black person) to get treated fairly? But yet and still it's ok for a white male officer to beat a black male in the head with a flash light and still have his job; or a white female officer to go kick in the front door of her partners apartment and beat the crap out of her. Not only is she still an officer but still assigned to a special unit. And the stories goes on and on. Please help me to understand...............

by S. James Guitard
Baltimore Times - Monday, January 14, 2008

The only thing more historic than Senator Barack Obama's unprecedented win of the Democratic Party's Iowa presidential caucus or Senator Hillary Clinton's rebound to win the New Hampshire primary is the self-delusional proclamation by many media and political pundits that Senator Obama's resounding victory in Iowa, with a registered voter population that is 97 percent white, is prima facie evidence that race is no longer a major issue in America.

While it is undeniable that Senator Obama is an exceptionally intelligent, charismatic politician whose inspirational message of hope, unity and change resonates with a significant number of independents, Democrats, Republicans, and people of all races, it appears that the key to transcending the racial divide is by primarily ignoring it.

Any attempts to use policy to remedy the vestiges of government-sponsored de jure segregation, racial discrimination and institutional racism, which permeate every sector of American life and have substantially created the vast inequities in the quality of life of African Americans are rebuffed by general society.

The only palatable recipe offered to African-Americans for widespread racial acceptance and harmony appears to comprise a toxic combination of redefining and narrowing the definition of racism in order to minimize the magnitude of African-American suffering and disenfranchisement as well as willingly foregoing the use of race as a tool to remedy injustices that are the result of race.

As the electoral process moves to states that have significant African-American populations, Senator Obama's policies, and in some cases lack of clearly articulated policies, on a host of issues that impact the African-American community must be closely examined with the same level of rigor applied to other presidential candidates. The African-American community must resist attempts by provocateurs both within and outside of its community to use the initial success of Senator Obama's campaign to win the Democratic presidential nomination as a way to silence and dismiss progressive voices within the African-American community that point out racial injustices and disparities that exist throughout our nation.

As many in the African-American community embrace the laudable goal of having the audacity to hope for a better America, we have to make sure that at the end of all the discussions and pep rallies we are not left with hope but no audacity to confront America’s reality.

This a dam shame!!

From Jeanne Meserve and Mike M. Ahlers
CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The federal government has released to CNN more than 100 photographs of a Halloween party that temporarily threatened to derail the nomination of a top Department of Homeland Security official.

ICE chief Julie Myers poses with a costume contest winner at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement party.

1 of 2 The images included several digital photos that the official had ordered erased because they were deemed to be inappropriate and offensive.

At the party, Julie Myers, then-acting chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), part of the Department of Homeland Security, gave an award for "most original costume" to an employee wearing prison stripes, a wig with dreadlocks and face-darkening makeup.

Immediately after posing for a photo with the winner, Myers later told Congress she recognized that she made an error in judgment and ordered the photos deleted from the camera.

Myers said she did not know the employee was wearing skin makeup, but ordered the photos destroyed because she did not think that "recognizing an escaped prisoner in any way was beneficial to the agency's goal of treating everyone in our custody with dignity and respect."

This week, in response to the Freedom of Information Act request filed by CNN on November 6, ICE released 113 official photographs of the party, including all of the deleted photos, which technicians were able to electronically restore.

An ICE spokeswoman denied the photos were suppressed until after Myers' job was secure, saying ICE responded in an "efficient time frame" to the FOIA request.

News of the photos' existence infuriated some members of Congress, who said they should have been made aware of them earlier.

"It is too bad that these photos surfaced too late to have dealt with her nomination, perhaps, in a different way," said Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, who last November put a "hold" on Myers' confirmation because of the hubbub. Watch what congressmen think about party photos »

Myers was confirmed on December 20. As an assistant secretary of homeland security, she leads ICE, the agency charged with enforcing immigration law in the nation's interior. The agency has more than 15,000 employees, including 6,000 investigators.

McCaskill said she believed the photos would have had affected the confirmation.

"This is such brutally bad judgment that, to me, it indicates that the leadership of this division is flawed," she said.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, whose committee oversees ICE, said Wednesday he is upset both by the photos and by ICE's failure to give the photos to Congress in November.

"I was satisfied (with Myers' explanations and apology) until I found out that these pictures existed," Thompson said.

An ICE spokeswoman denied that there was any intentional effort to mislead Congress.

"We had asked that they be destroyed, and as far as we knew, that was the case," spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said. Myers was "frank and honest about every aspect of that situation from the very beginning," she said.

An estimated 50 to 75 employees attended the October 31 costume party at ICE headquarters in the District of Columbia. A poster advertising the contest said costumes should be tasteful and "office appropriate."

Myers declined to talk to CNN Wednesday, but in written comments to Congress last November, she offered the following account of the incident:

She and two other ICE officials served as judges of the costume contest, and she had "very limited interaction" with the employee in the prisoner costume, who "was present at the (judging) table for less than half a minute before he moved on.

"I was not aware at the time of the contest that the employee disguised his skin color," she wrote. Nonetheless, after posing for a photo with the employee, she realized it was inappropriate.

"Although I did not know that this individual had disguised his race, I determined that I had made an error in judgment in recognizing an escaped prisoner at this party," she wrote, and she instructed her chief of staff to direct the official photographer to delete the photos.

In an internal e-mail that was sent at 3:05 p.m., shortly after the party was to end, the ICE public affairs director, Wendy Burrell, said, "Please make sure that the photos of the most creative (single male entry) are destroyed. They may not be used in any publication, Web site, compilation disk, you name it. Not just not used. Please erase all."

Myers said she was "shocked and horrified" to learn the next day that the employee had used skin-darkening makeup.

The employee was counseled, and Myers sent out a note to all agency employees expressing regret over the event, agency spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said in November,

"It is now clear that, however unintended, a few of the costumes were inappropriate and offensive," Myers wrote.

She reminded employees of their responsibility to complete diversity training and said managers should distribute and discuss ICE's Diversity Policy Statement during staff meetings.

The employee who donned the inmate costume was placed on two weeks of administrative leave, counseled by a supervisor and returned to full duty. E-mail to a friend

I was watching MSNBC this afternoon and there was a lady on there by the name of Michelle Bernard. Ms. Bernard said the Clinton campagin has sent out an e-mail stating she will now concentrate on all white women she will leave the Black women alone and with the white women they can win Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania. Mike is there any way you or your staff can get Ms. Bernard on the phone? All I know is she represents or works for Independent Women's Voice; that was the caption under her picture.

Thanx,

Voter Fraud, Voter Caging, disenfranchisement. These were all terms that I had heard over the years, but the process of doing it was never explained to me and frankly I wasn’t that interested. But for Christmas I bought a Zune and I discovered Podcasts and I now understand those three words above. I get the podcast for PBS Now and there are three in particular that have really opened my eyes, Dirty Politics 2008, Will the 2008 vote be fair and Voter caging. Mike, you have got to listen to them and you have got to speak on them every day so that we as a nation will be informed and really begin to help each other out. I didn’t realize the impact of the id requirement until I listened to Will the 2008 vote be fair. We all need to help our neighbors, the ones that are older and need to get id’s and also fight the legal battle. It simply blew me away how the republicans did it when the current Bush got in the White house. They used a tactic called voter caging. That is they mailed letters to newly registered voters in key states, at a time when they wouldn’t be there, like students and deployed military personnel, and if they letters came back, they put them on a challenge list. When they came to vote, they questioned their registration and prevented them from voting.

Here is a suggestion, we put up flyers or make radio broadcast asking that 1) everyone check their registration, 2) asking that anyone who doesn’t have a valid id or license and needs help like a ride or birth certificate, or passport, that we who do have the means to help them obtain those documents, help them. I say we beat them at their own game. We put ourselves in a position that they can’t say for any reason that we are ineligible to vote. I remember as a child on Election Day, my father and uncles organized rides to the poles for our elderly. I am going to talk to my pastor to see if we can do that in our community so that we will fulfill our right to vote.

Go to the following site; http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/348/index.html and look at this report and you will feel as passionate as I do about this.
Mike, I also challenge all who went to Jena, all of the stars like Ice Cube, Tyler Perry, Salt & Peppa to name a few to help us in our effort to help especially Indiana where there is a court case pending regarding id’s get them to the necessary office to get the necessary id and ensure that they are registered. Just like in New Orleans, when Hurricane Katrina hit, we told the poorest of the poor to get out, and they couldn’t because they lacked the means, we also have to assume that these people that are being targeted with the Id requirement, we lend ourselves by any means necessary to beat the Republicans at their own game.

Shooter at NIU former student

Six are dead including the shooter during a mid-day St. Valentine's Day mass murder on the sprawling campus of Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL.

The shooter, who has not been publically identified, was a NIU graduate student in the spring of 2007, school administrators said during a press conference broadcast on CLTV News in Chicago. There is no indication of the shooter's course of study.

In all 22 people have been injured. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is processing the crime scene.

One witness described the shooter as a "skinny white guy with a stocking cap," who police say later committed suicide. Witnesses also say he was dressed in all black and didn't say anything before opening fire with a shotgun.

Witnesses told reporters there were 20 to 30 shots inside a classroom at Cole Hall while class was in session. The lecture hall was set up like a stage and the gunman--who was not a student--came from backstage onto centerstage, shooting into the audience of students. A female student in the class said the shooter looked angry and the incident began during the last 10 minutes of class.

Many were treated for head wounds, a Kishwaukee Community Hospital spokeswoman said.

Another witness said there was threatening racist graffiti against Blacks found in a restroom when asked by a reporter if the campus had any warnings of violence prior to the shooting.

That threat, though widely reported in December 2007, was mostly dismissed as an attempt by students to possibly delay finals.

However found on the WIFR.com web site are the comments of Mitchell Gaddis, president of the university's NAACP chapter. In December 2007 he said the slurs and threats found in a residence hall bathroom didn't come out of the blue.

Gaddis says it is unsafe for blacks to walk along Greek Row. He says blacks are tired of that.
Blacks compose nearly 13 percent of the university's 18,816 undergraduates.
NIU school officials were tightlipped when asked by reporters whether or not they think the shooting is connected to previous incidents. They said they think that it is not.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. CST and the campus was locked down within minutes. The open commuter-style campus is located in Dekalb, Illinois just outside of Chicago and has an enrollment exceeding 25,000. Classes have been canceled until further notice. Students were asked to call their parents, many told reporters that they were going home.

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich declared a state-of-emergency which will open the Governor’s disaster relief fund for local units of government to reimburse them for their extraordinary expenses related to the response and will facilitate the Illinois Emergency Management Agency in providing assistance to local units of government.

Gov. Blagojevich activated the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) to coordinate the State's response.

In addition, the State is providing on-site assistance at NIU, including Illinois State Police Northern Tactical Response team members, State Police officers and Illinois Department of Natural Resources officers who are supporting local and university law enforcement.

Specialists from the Department of Human Services are assisting the university’s metal health professionals in conducting a crisis assessment.

On-scene response included 16 ambulances, 2 air ambulances, more than 60 fire and EMT personnel, 15 Law Enforcement Officers, two mobile command posts and an Illinois Transportable Emergency Communication System.

There is a report that there were elections irregularities in some precincts in Harlem during the Democratic Primaries. It is reported that Barack Obama did not get a single vote in some precincts. This is disenfranchisement and violation of people’s civil rights.

Please forward the following excerpt to your local /national radio/tv stations and newspapers and ask them why this story is not getting the coverage that it deserves:

DEMOCRACYNOW.ORG (2/18/08)

AMY GOODMAN: John Nichols, you have blogged about this very interesting story, New York Times this weekend, Sam Roberts, the headline of that story, "Unofficial Tallies in City Understated Obama Vote.” This is about New York. Explain what happened.

JOHN NICHOLS: Well, this is a huge story, Amy. And understand this: that this race for the presidency is still very, very close, the race for the Democratic nomination. Either of these candidates could, at the end of the day, prevail. In a situation like that, where the delegate split is quite narrow, each voting precinct or each voting district—in this case, congressional districts—becomes very, very important, because that’s how delegates are allotted. And at a close convention, it could matter. So we’re watching situations like this all over the country.

What’s fascinating is, the situation in New York City, where Barack Obama actually carried a number of congressional districts right in the heart of what should be Hillary Clinton’s home turf and did very, very well, particularly in African American districts. This is not surprising. He’s been polling 80, even 90 percent of the African American votes in states around the country. And yet, in Harlem, in a district that has a very large African American population, as well as a significant white liberal population, Obama’s finish was quite weak. He lost to Hillary Clinton by a significant amount district-wide, and they found a number of precincts, local voting districts, local voting precincts, where Barack Obama received zero—and I want to repeat that: zero votes. And that never happens. It is an anomaly that made no sense. In fact, I believe there were roughly sixty voting precincts around New York City where Obama got zero votes. And this is not—it makes no sense.

AMY GOODMAN: Again, these were in some of the communities where there was an overwhelming African American population.

JOHN NICHOLS: Well, more than that, Amy, these—where neighboring precincts—literally, the precinct, you know, a mile down the road or, you know, one subway stop up—had big, big votes for Obama. In fact, usually it’s situations where he won. And when you start to look at this, you realize that something went very, very wrong.

Nobody—I should say very few people at this point are making specific charges against anyone or saying, you know, this happened for this reason. What people are saying, and I think it’s the right thing to say at this point, is that we need to open up these machines, take a serious look at what happened in these precincts and get to the bottom of it, because, again, it’s such a close race. You cannot have this sort of disenfranchisement. If it was an intentional act, this is scandal of, you know, Florida levels. And if it was unintentional, then something needs to be done to make sure, first, that if the votes are there, that they are counted. Second, if somehow there was a mechanical glitch or a destruction of the record of these votes, then you do need to have revoting in those precincts. We cannot say to people in a race that is, again, this close that, well, you know, tough luck, we believe that you went to the polls to vote for Barack Obama, like a lot of people went to the polls in Florida to vote for Al Gore in 2000, but we’re not going to count them. This is a serious issue.

This morning on Fox & Friends on the Fox News Channel, they showed an exerpt from a rally that former President Bill Clinton was speaking at. At the rally, Bill Clinton could be specifically heard as saying, "...and if you vote for me, I'll....". I've tried to find that link ever since I saw it this morning and have been unsuccessful. Fox News has not shown it since; however, I will continue looking for it. If I find it, I'll post the link. You all have got to see this. It just goes to show who will really be in charge if Hillary wins the democratic nomination.

The incendiary remarks we saw over and over again, were actually Wright quoting a WHITE man, former U.S. Ambassador Peck, who was having it out with interviewers on Fox news. He's still kinda off his nut, but still. . . .

His entire sermon can be heard here:

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/21/the-full-story-behind-rev-jeremiah-wrights-911-sermon/

One of the most controversial statements in this sermon was when he mentioned “chickens coming home to roost.” He was actually quoting Edward Peck, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and deputy director of President Reagan’s terrorism task force, who was speaking on FOX News. That’s what he told the congregation.

He was quoting Peck as saying that America’s foreign policy has put the nation in peril:

“I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday did anybody else see or hear him? He was on FOX News, this is a white man, and he was upsetting the FOX News commentators to no end, he pointed out, a white man, an ambassador, he pointed out that what Malcolm X said when he was silenced by Elijah Mohammad was in fact true, he said Americas chickens, are coming home to roost.”

“We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, Arikara, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism.

“We took Africans away from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism.

“We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel.

“We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenage and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard working fathers.

“We bombed Qaddafi’s home, and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children’s head against the rock.

“We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay back for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hard working people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they’d never get back home.

“We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye.

“Kids playing in the playground. Mothers picking up children after school. Civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff that we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.

“Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred. And terrorism begets terrorism. A white ambassador said that y’all, not a black militant. Not a reverend who preaches about racism. An ambassador whose eyes are wide open and who is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised. The ambassador said the people we have wounded don’t have the military capability we have. But they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them. And we need to come to grips with that.”

Some Va. Tech families criticize settlement offer
Package would pay relatives $100,000 to forestall lawsuits over massacre

Lawyers and families of the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre, who have less than a week to decide whether to give up their right to sue in exchange for $100,000 apiece, criticized the offer Tuesday, saying it was negotiated in secret and would hold no one accountable.

At least 20 families have filed claims against the state of Virginia in connection with the shootings, in which a disturbed student killed 32 people and himself last year on the university’s campus in Blacksburg.

The settlement proposal would require all the families to agree to waive their rights to sue, and it set a deadline of next Monday.

Gov. Tim Kaine said Tuesday that the deal had been in the works for several months, but relatives of some of the victims complained that the state negotiated only with the Washington-based attorneys for about 20 families and said they were frozen out of the discussions.

Legal sources familiar with the negotiations, who spoke to NBC affiliate WRC-TV of Washington on condition of anonymity, confirmed that other attorneys were not consulted. Bode & Grenier, the Washington law firm that negotiated the settlement, did not return calls for comment Tuesday.

Mother denounces ‘business as usual’
Celeste Peterson, whose daughter Erin was killed in the attack on April 16, said the settlement did not meet her main objective: accountability for administrators.

“There is nobody who is even attempting to offer an apology, nobody who has been asked to step down,” Peterson told WRC on Tuesday. “It’s like, ‘OK, let’s hurry up and dismiss this and get on with business as usual.’”

Vincent Bove, a New Jersey crime prevention consultant who is advising several families of the victims, said some might have no choice but to accept the offer because “they lost the breadwinners in their families.”

But he said he would counsel the families to reject the offer, which he called “money to hush you from demanding that the truth come to the surface of why these poor decisions were made that could have prevented this violence from occurring.”

“What they’ve always wanted from the beginning is not a financial settlement, but what they want is accountability and consequences for the lack of leadership that led to the tragedy,” Bove said of the families he advises.

Opportunity to speak with officials
A lawyer familiar with the proposal told WRC that under the deal, the families of those who were killed would receive $100,000 apiece. Another $800,000 would be reserved for injured survivors, while a separate fund would reimburse expenses not covered by insurance for medical, psychological and psychiatric care for victims and their immediate families. Survivors would also be eligible for reduced-cost health insurance.

A $3.5 million public-purpose fund would be created to fund charitable causes and could provide additional hardship payments to families, the attorney said. Kaine would meet with victims and relatives three times over the next two years to review legislative and administrative responses to the shootings, and victims and their families could also meet with senior Virginia Tech officials to discuss changes at the campus since the tragedy.

Kaine said Tuesday that he was “disappointed” by the reaction to the offer.

“There’s a lot more than that, and some of it is not even monetary,” the governor said in an interview with NBC affiliate WSLS-TV of Roanoke. “Some of it is focused on law reform efforts, like the mental health reforms. It’s a broad discussion, and again we’re trying to be creative about it.

“At the end of the day, everybody is going to have a choice to make,” he said. “Some families are looking at lawsuits or whatever, and they can choose. This is all voluntary.”

`Redneck Shop' Creates Dispute in S.C.

The Battle Over `Redneck Shop': Black Pastor Fights KKK Store in Building He Claims to Own

By KATRINA A. GOGGINS Associated Press Writer
LAURENS, S.C. Mar 10, 2008 (AP)

A black civil rights activist is fighting to close a store that sells KKK robes and T-shirts emblazoned with racial slurs. David Kennedy is confident he can make it happen. After all, he says he owns the building.

Since 1996, the Redneck Shop has operated in an old movie theater that, according to court records, was transferred in 1997 to Kennedy and the Baptist church he leads.

"Our ownership puts an end to that history as far as violence and hatred, racism being practiced in that place and also the recruiting of the Klan," Kennedy said. "This is the same place that we had to go up into the balcony to go to the movies before the Klan took it. So there's a lot of history there."

But legal documents also indicate that the man who runs the store, 62-year-old John Howard, is entitled to operate his business in the building until he dies. Now the dispute may go to court.

Kennedy, 54, has led protests outside the store since it opened but said he's never been able to close it because of the agreement that Howard can run the shop for life.

The reverend envisions the building as a potential future home for his New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church, which now meets in a double-wide trailer.

Kennedy claims he can't even visit his own property because Howard won't let him in when he appears in the door. But that didn't happen during a recent visit with an Associated Press reporter and photographer.

"Reverend Kennedy, where you been hiding?" Howard shouted when the door opened.

Inside the store, hooded Klan robes hang on the same rack as the racist T-shirts. Pictures of men, women and children in Klan clothing and pamphlets tell a partial history of the organization.

Howard used to own the whole building. When his store first opened, he said, people threw rocks at his windows, spit in his doorway and picketed. A month later, a man intentionally crashed his van through the front windows.

"If anything turns people off, they shouldn't come in here. It's not a thing in here that's against the law," Howard said, adding that he was once the KKK's grand dragon for South Carolina and North Carolina.

Bloggers Weigh in on Transgendered Pregnant Man

Article Date: 03/26/2008
By Ross von Metzke and Ann Turner

Thomas Beatie, a transgendered man from Portland, Oregon who revealed he is pregnant in the latest issue of The Advocate, is five months along according to various reports.

Now the story, which spread like wildfire on the Web yesterday following its appearance in the latest issue of the LGBT news magazine, is prompting mass discussion among bloggers.

Beatie, who transitioned from female to male, decided not to remove his reproductive organs and stopped taking testosterone injections. Upon learning his wife, Nancy, couldn't carry a child, he tried. Now, Beatie and his wife are expecting a baby girl in July.

Beatie claims he's faced discrimination from doctors and hospitals, and now blogs are weighing in on the topic.

GaySocialites.com writes: "I was even more shocked at how upset people were to find out that Beatie was born a woman. In a strange-sort-of-way, everyone seemed to want Beatie to defy the laws of anatomy by getting pregnant as a man."

DListed.com got a bit more personal: "This is pretty awesome and I wish them well! They want a family and they are doing whatever it takes to get one. You can't blame them for that. Whatever works! He also makes a pretty hot pregnant dude."

Over on a more traditional pregnancy site, Mom Logic compares the story to a soap opera, saying: "Considering the stereotypical man has a hard time dealing with the common cold, we wonder how this dude's handling the joys of pregnancy."

In the most recent issue of The Advocate, Beatie details his decision to transition from male to female eight years ago, including undergoing chest reconstruction surgery and going on testosterone therapy.

During the transition, however, he decided not to have his female reproductive organs removed. After transitioning, Beatie was able to be registered legally as a male and legally marry his wife, Nancy.

In his column for The Advocate, Beatie wrote that it feels "incredible" to be a "pregnant man". He says that although he is engaging in a traditionally female biological process, he is "stable and confident being the man that I am" and in one sense sees himself "as my own surrogate".

Los Angeles Times to Examine Its Report on Attack on Rapper

By DAVID CARR
Published: March 27, 2008

The Los Angeles Times announced on Wednesday that it was conducting an internal investigation into whether an article it published last week about the 1994 assault on the rapper Tupac Shakur was based on fabricated information.

The article used what it called summaries of Federal Bureau of Investigation interviews with an informant to implicate the rapper Sean Combs in the shooting of Shakur.

The investigation was prompted by a report on The Smoking Gun, an online investigative magazine, that called the veracity of the article into question.

The Smoking Gun contended that Chuck Phillips, a Times reporter who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1999, had been duped by one of the figures in his article, James Sabatino, whom it described as “an imprisoned con man and accomplished document forger.”

Nancy Sullivan, a spokeswoman for The Times, said an investigation was under way. “Questions have been raised about the authenticity of documents that we relied on,” she said, adding, “We are taking this very seriously.”

The shooting of Shakur at a recording studio in 1994 has long been the stuff of hip-hop legend. It is widely cited as the flash point of a hip-hop conflict that also eventually resulted in the murder of the rapper Christopher G. Wallace, who was also known as both the Notorious B.I.G. and Biggie Smalls.

The article in The Times described the shooting as a setup planned by associates of Mr. Combs.

“The records — summaries of F.B.I. interviews with the informant conducted in July and December 2002 — provide details of how Shakur was lured to the studio and ambushed,” the article said. “Others with knowledge of the incident corroborated the informant’s account in interviews with The Times and gave additional details.”

But William Bastone, editor of The Smoking Gun, said, “The whole thing did not pass the smell test.” The article in The Times said that a central figure in the plot to attack Shakur was Mr. Sabatino, a Zelig-like figure in the hip-hop world. “Here you have this white teenager from Boynton Beach, Fla., who was in the middle of all these events and no one has ever heard of him.”

Mr. Bastone, who investigated The Los Angeles Times article with Andrew Goldberg and Joseph Jesselli, said that although they knew Mr. Phillips and had shared information with him in the past, they began asking questions as soon as they saw digital reproductions of the documents that summarized the F.B.I. interviews — so-called 302 Forms — that accompanied the story at latimes.com.

“The acronyms, the redactions, the type face — none of it looked like any 302’s we had seen and we have thousands of them around this office,” Mr. Bastone said. “I reached out to Chuck and told him that these things just didn’t look right.”

In The Times article Mr. Combs responded to the allegations with a statement. “This story is beyond ridiculous and is completely false,” it read. “Neither Biggie nor I had any knowledge of any attack before, during, or after it happened. It is a complete lie to suggest that there was any involvement by Biggie or myself.”

Mr. Phillips, who declined through the spokeswoman at The Times to be interviewed, told MTV News last week that he was both sure of his information and how he obtained it.

“I’m not going to write it just because someone says it,” he said. “I have to, in my mind, have double- or triple-sourcing on something and people who hadn’t spoken to each other and I can assure myself that they haven’t spoken to each other.”

Michigan delegate plan

A congressman proposed a new plan Monday to seat Michigan's 156 delegates at the Democratic National Convention - award 83 based on the state's Jan. 15 primary and the rest as a percentage of the national popular vote.

In a letter to Democratic Party boss Howard Dean, Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak called for giving Hillary Clinton 47 of the state's delegates as a result of her win there and Barack Obama 36 - with the remaining 73 to be doled out based on how each fares in the national vote, which Obama leads.

Florida and Michigan were stripped of their delegates by the party for voting too early. Stupak is a former John Edwards supporter who is now neutral in the race.

'Imperfect' Mac on Gulf

John McCain embarked on a carefully crafted tour of the Gulf Coast Monday to introduce himself to a wider election audience in a largely pro-military region of the country.

On the stump in Mississippi, he cast himself as an "imperfect servant of my country," descended from a family of U.S. warriors devoted to honor, courage and duty.

In remarks both personal and philosophical, McCain recalled ancestors buried at Arlington National Cemetery and mused about "the honor we earn and the love we give when we work and sacrifice with others for a cause greater than our self-interest."

Narrow Bam Texas win

Barack Obama has won the overall delegate race in Texas, thanks to a strong showing in Democratic county conventions this past weekend.

He picked up seven of nine outstanding delegates, giving him a total of 99 Texas delegates to the party's national convention. Clinton won 94 delegates in the Lone Star State.

Clinton won the state's primary last month, but Obama won a followup caucus in which only primary voters were allowed to participate.

I would like to hear this talked about on the show. Does this interests anyone else?

this is regiso11 ( terrance in dallas). well, this email is to see what you think of this idea that came to me about a week ago. i know many people are complaining about how the gas prices are outrageous but still can't think of something to do to bring them down. well, this is my thoughts.

do you remember the Black Out last year? the prices were climbing up at that time also, however, after the Black Out, it dropped some and stayed steady until the new year. my thoughts are that maybe we should do this again very soon. Except, this time, turn up the heat. we should do at least two days, but more than likely three. the first two should be back to back then wait maybe a week or two then do the third. the first two should be enough to bring the prices back down to under the $3 mark. the third is to keep the profits from catching back up in the next month. doing that should hurt profits for that quarter. the follow up for that is to then only go to gas stations that use american oil. these prices for the barrels of oil is from overseas. the stations that i have seen that uses American oil are smaller chains. The family will have to do some research in their area to find out which stations use the american oil. this should start a price war for gas and could bring prices down to $1.50 again if we really buckle down and use our buying power. it would really help if other radio personalities get into this so the maximum amount of people can participate. well, it is just something to think about and maybe have as a discussion on the air. thanks for all your help and i hope i was able to start something that can really make a difference in every ones life.

This makes me wonder, if they could do this to a Military solider, they could do this to a President. NO RESPECT!

I'm a soldier stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC and I work in the hospital. I have been fighting for my country for 9 yrs. My wife also served and she fought in Iraq with the 212th MASH. She was a medic in the U.S. Army. On Oct 24, 2005, my wife and I were jumped by Richland County officers in front of our own home. This is the story... http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-7526

A Brief for Whitey
by Patrick J. Buchanan
Posted: 03/21/2008

How would he pull it off? I wondered.

How would Barack explain to his press groupies why he sat silent in a pew for 20 years as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright delivered racist rants against white America for our maligning of Fidel and Gadhafi, and inventing AIDS to infect and kill black people?

How would he justify not walking out as Wright spewed his venom about "the U.S. of K.K.K. America," and howled, "God damn America!"

My hunch was right. Barack would turn the tables.

Yes, Barack agreed, Wright's statements were "controversial," and "divisive," and "racially charged," reflecting a "distorted view of America."

But we must understand the man in full and the black experience out of which the Rev. Wright came: 350 years of slavery and segregation.

Barack then listed black grievances and informed us what white America must do to close the racial divide and heal the country.

The "white community," said Barack, must start "acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of black people; that the legacy of discrimination -- and current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past -- are real and must be addressed. Not just with words, but with deeds ... ."

And what deeds must we perform to heal ourselves and our country?

The "white community" must invest more money in black schools and communities, enforce civil rights laws, ensure fairness in the criminal justice system and provide this generation of blacks with "ladders of opportunity" that were "unavailable" to Barack's and the Rev. Wright's generations.

What is wrong with Barack's prognosis and Barack's cure?

Only this. It is the same old con, the same old shakedown that black hustlers have been running since the Kerner Commission blamed the riots in Harlem, Watts, Newark, Detroit and a hundred other cities on, as Nixon put it, "everybody but the rioters themselves."

Was "white racism" really responsible for those black men looting auto dealerships and liquor stories, and burning down their own communities, as Otto Kerner said -- that liberal icon until the feds put him away for bribery.

Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants.

Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?

Barack talks about new "ladders of opportunity" for blacks.

Let him go to Altoona and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for "deserving" white kids.

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.

McCain opposes equal pay bill in Senate

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Republican Sen. John McCain, campaigning through poverty-stricken cities and towns, said Wednesday he opposes a Senate bill that seeks equal pay for women because it would lead to more lawsuits.

Senate Republicans killed the bill Wednesday night on a 56-42 vote that denied the measure the 60 votes needed to advance it to full debate and a vote. Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., had delayed the vote to give McCain's Democratic rivals, Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, time to return to Washington to support the measure, which would make it easier for women to sue their employers for pay discrimination.

McCain skipped the vote to campaign in New Orleans.

"I am all in favor of pay equity for women, but this kind of legislation, as is typical of what's being proposed by my friends on the other side of the aisle, opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems," the expected GOP presidential nominee told reporters. "This is government playing a much, much greater role in the business of a private enterprise system."

The bill sought to counteract a Supreme Court decision limiting how long workers can wait before suing for pay discrimination.

It is named for Lilly Ledbetter, a supervisor at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s plant in Gadsden, Ala., who sued for pay discrimination just before retiring after a 19-year career there. By the time she retired, Ledbetter made $6,500 less than the lowest-paid male supervisor and claimed earlier decisions by supervisors kept her from making more.

The Supreme Court voted 5-4 last year to throw out her complaint, saying she had waited too long to sue.

Democrats criticized McCain for opposing the bill.

"Senator McCain has yet again fallen in line with President Bush while middle-class families are falling by the wayside," Clinton said in a statement following the vote. "Women are earning less, but Senator McCain is offering more of the same."

Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Karen Finney said: "At a time when American families are struggling to keep their homes and jobs while paying more for everything from gasoline to groceries, how on Earth would anyone who thinks they can lead our country also think it's acceptable to oppose equal pay for America's mothers, wives and daughters?"

McCain stated his opposition to the bill as he campaigned in rural eastern Kentucky, where poverty is worse among women than men. The Arizona senator said he was familiar with the disparity but that there are better ways to help women find better paying jobs.

"They need the education and training, particularly since more and more women are heads of their households, as much or more than anybody else," McCain said. "And it's hard for them to leave their families when they don't have somebody to take care of them.

"It's a vicious cycle that's affecting women, particularly in a part of the country like this, where mining is the mainstay; traditionally, women have not gone into that line of work, to say the least," he said.

McCain chose to visit the tiny hamlet of Inez, Ky., because it is where President Lyndon B. Johnson declared war on poverty. But McCain said Johnson's poverty programs had failed.

"I wouldn't be back here today if government had fulfilled the promise that Lyndon Johnson made 44 years ago," he said.

In recent weeks, McCain has proposed a series of tax breaks for corporations, doubling the dependent child tax exemption, government-backed refinancing for struggling homeowners and a summer holiday from gas taxes. He proposed another new program Wednesday: a tax write-off for companies that provide high-speed Internet access for underserved, low-income communities.

Senator McCain: Stop Insulting Women
After the Senate recently failed to get the 60 votes necessary to force an up-or-down vote on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Senator John McCain said that widespread gender-based pay inequity isn't due to discrimination. In his view, women just need more "education and training" to close the wage gap.

We think women need equal rights under the law.

Lilly Ledbetter worked 19 years at Goodyear before she learned the men at her level were earning far more. Eventually she sued, and the case went all the way to the Supreme Court where five male justices ruled her claim invalid because she filed it more than 180 days after the date when the discrimination first started. Now, Senator McCain wants to stop legislation to correct this injustice -- and in the process, roll back 50 years of women's rights.

Lilly Ledbetter and women across the country are not only paid less when they have the same education and same training, but also for doing the exact same job as men. The only difference between men and women in the workplace is women bring home less money to take care of their families.

Senator McCain should know better. Tell him to take back his sexist statement and stop blocking an up or down vote on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

I remember when Arnold was running for governor of California when his father's Nazi past came up and how the media just smoothed over everything for him.

I did a little research and came up with the following interesting remark from the Jewish Cultural Society

"This week a senior official of Austria's Jewish Cultural Society said it believed that the actor had redeemed the past.

"That his father was a Nazi, does not mean he has the same views. As far as we can tell, he has a good reputation on Jewish matters in California." "

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0825-06.htm

In light of Rev Wright (who, as a Rev has not killed Jews) and is not a FATHER to Obama, but instead, is just his ex-pastor, I think the words ""That his father was a Nazi, does not mean he has the same views" makes me just wonder, why is Obama looked at in such a strange light. Can you imagine, European Jews saying this about the child of a Nazi? If the European Jews can say this about flesh and blood, living in the house daily, being a child who idolizes his father....why not do MORE for a man who does not LIVE with his pastor???
Wacky isn't it? Mind boggling, isn't it.
You should read the whole article and feel the warmth. Amazing

Good morning. I am writing this email on behalf of my cousin, who was the teen involved in the bus fight that took place in Carson with a bus driver. I have attached the link of the incident that aired on the Channel 2 and Channel 9 news last night. My family has hired an attorney, because as you can clearly see on the video, my cousin was assaulted by the bus driver, tried to defend himself and was arrested on battery charges. My cousin is 13 years old.

http://video.aol.com/video-detail/caught-on-tape-public-bus-brawl/1382491363

I am saddened by the fact that this clearly shows my cousin trying to walk away from the incident and get off the bus and the bus driver pushing him. But of course, my cousin was the one arested. The bus driver works for the Torrance Transit Authority.

My name is Victoria. We don't want anything, we just want the public to know what happened. We are a good family. We are a middle class working family. Not that it should make a difference.

Ku Klux Klan Endorses Obama
February 7th, 2008
by James R. Crowe

Anything or anyone is better than Hillary Rodham Clinton

KENTUCKY - USA - Imperial Wizard, Ronald Edwards has stated that, "anything is better than Hillary Clinton."

White Christian Supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan has endorsed Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States of America.

Speaking from his Kentucky office in Dawson Springs, the Imperial Wizard exclaimed that anything or anyone is better than having that "crazy ass bitch" as President.

This is the first time in Klan history that any member of the KKK has ever publicly supported an African American candidate for the presidency.

KKK lodges all over America have been gathering and holding rallies supporting the black presidential candidate.

KKK members in Tennessee rally against Hillary Clinton and support Barack Obama

Grand Turk Cletus Monroe has also been very vocal about the election and has donated thousands of dollars to Obama's election fund.

"The boy's gonna do it. My Klan group has donated up to $250,000 to the Obama fund. Anything is better than Hillary Clinton. Hell I'll even adopt a black kid from Africa before I vote for Hillary."

"A few years back we were lynching negroes. Now we're gonna vote for one to be president of the US of motherfu**ing A, damn it! Anyone or anything is better than Hillary Clinton - anything!!"

Placards for Barack Obama have been put up around the Klan's Headquarters and the KKK have announced a television ad campaign to support the African American candidate.

I know President Obama will be our new president of the USA. The media focuses are on the negatives. I know America is ready for change, but the media will not reveal it. We have to take a stand for equality for all human beings. We are going to have some that are going to be resistant to change, but we can not pay attention to them.

For example, it is like a person who has been on a job for a while and he or she does not want to advance with new technology or management. He or she wants to keep doing what he was doing and do not want to grow.

We have to stop waiting on someone else to change us. We must first change ourselves by changing our thought process. Keep doing what you doing you will keep getting the same results.

All people are not bad. We must forgive and embrace the future. I think we are forgetting the most important question about life is one day we will die, but what are you doing while you are living.

I am a supporter of President Obama, because I believe in change and I know he is the only man for the job. We do not have anyone else who can deliver on his or her promise.

To Michael Baisden (keep on keeping on!) and all the listeners of the Baisden show...

I was listening to yesterday's show (Monday, May 5) and was trying to call in to make comments about the media's influence in our country and this election, but of course, I couldn't get in. As a sister who teaches history through theatre and performance, and a former journalist, I thought I'd share this little bit of info with all of you here.

When Bush first came into office, one of the first things he did was to dismantle the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruling that restricted the number of media outlets (newspaper/radio and television stations) that a company could own in a specific market. The effects of that can be seen today, with only a handful of companies owning nearly every TV and radio station and newspaper in the country. Also, before Bush's actions, every television station in the US was required to dedicate a number of hours each week to local and community programming. How often do you see public affairs programming on television, and if you do, isn't it on at 3 or 4 am in the morning, when most people are still asleep?

Secondly, if you want to know where the bias is coming from in the media, investigate the owners of some of these media giants. Look at the owners of Fox and some of the others...then research how much money they funnel into the Republican party and other right wing organizations. I think you'll find in several instances that there is a direct correlation between the network's 'news angle' and the policital party affiliation. I think you'll find that the bias that we see is inherent, and now thankfully, becoming transparent.

Thirdly, I returned to the US in 2006 after having lived overseas for nearly 16 years, and I can assure you without any reservation that Americans that depend on the networks and nearly all other MAJOR media are not receiving the complete picture of events in the US and around the world. I lived in a small country with a large expat community - people from Canada, the UK, Brazil, South Africa, Singapore, Thailand, Croatia, the Caribbean, India, Italy, Germany, France, and others worked and lived there for periods of anywhere from 6 months to 6 years or more. The local cable company took advantage of this fact and featured not only programming and news from the US, but from many of the countries represented there. In many cases, especially concerning 9/11 and the Iraq war, the news was more complete and a LOT less biased from these other countries' news outlets. It was usually reported from the WORLD perspective, as opposed to the US news, which is usually geared solely to the 'American' perspective. AND, there were so many times where I'd find stories on these channels that would NEVER appear on the US channels, or would appear weeks or months later. Many times, we are making decisions and formulating opinions about world events based on partial or biased information. We are only shown a portion of the big picture.

For these reasons, I encourage all of Michael Baisden's listeners to PLEASE seek out and support your alternative local newspapers, National Public Radio (NPR), PBS, and the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC), as well as Baisden's show to obtain a more fair, accurate, and balanced reporting of the news we receive, and please encourage others to do so, especially at this critical juncture in our nation's history. We won't get this from our mainstream outlets for the most part - it's not in their best interest to do so.

Also, log onto MoveOn.org - they have long been involved in trying to make this Bush Administration accountable to the average American, AND they have endorsed and supported Obama through many online fundraising events. They have sponsored a contest encouraging Americans to shoot and submit videos on why they are supporting Obama. It's a heartwarming experience to view all these commercials! They were overwhelmed with submissions. The finalists in this contest have been selected, and I think the voting is still open for members. Check it out, and join them if you're so inclined.

Remember, we can't wait for others to change, we each have to be the change, and demand it.

Don't be fooled by GOP Political Ploys. Reactionary Republicans are crossing over to vote in Democratic Primaries, for Obama, presuming him to be the weakest opposition to McCain. In the fall, many of them intend to cross back over to vote in the General Election against their Democratic Choice, for the Republican nominee McCain. No Republican will ever admit, but I must give them their "props" Deception is the Art of GOP politics. With that in mind, consider the following re: legislation proposing DNA sampling upon a mere arrest (as revised) (also blogged and transmitted to the President, Tennessee Congressmen and Senators, the Attorney General, candidates for the Presidency of the United States, candidates for representative office in the state of Tennessee, media representatives and interested others)
May 6, 2008

I am opposed to this legislation and any other which is drafted with the intention of delivering as many Black heads as possible on a platter. This proposal is an unconstitutional search and seizure, proposed by power hungry Christian Right GOPs who desire to single handedly dictate the destiny of others. Extreme right Prosecutors and Judges often convict; and trigger happy officers often arrest Blacks for no reason other than the fact that they “dare to act like citizens while Black.”

Whatever the founding fathers really intended, they acknowledged that “all men are created equal.” Of course, they characterized some men and women as only 3/5ths of a person; however, that was solely to justify treating them as lucrative chattel - not persons entitled to the rights and benefits of citizens. Unlikely, what “Jesus would have done”. Certainly that was then, but even today, right wing propagandists analogize Blacks with monkeys and apes, dehumanizing them to every extent possible. For example, the Tennessean boldly offers select people “Monkey Free Jobs,” using illustrations that are frequently associated with the broadly perpetuated stereotype of “shiftless Blacks“, while Wal-Mart’s DVD website directed Blacks searching for ethnic movies to ”The Planet of the Apes,” and a shooting gallery/arcade in Kansas City offered “swashbuckling adventure” to its gun toting patrons (many Christian), who pretended to “hunt” the indigenous people of Africa.

I oppose this and all legislation that attempts to unravel hundreds of years of progress toward fulfilling “our” founding fathers “stated” intentions. I am appalled that the GOP Christian Right are so intent upon re-instituting slavery that they compromise due process and ignore the concept of probable cause solely for the purpose of institutionalizing as many Blacks as possible - even middle schoolers - in order to “take back the streets” as proposed in the GOP Contract with America, while negligently and intentionally leaving many other targeted children behind. I am equally disturbed about their cloaked efforts to (1) tame the beast with faith and grace, (2) sport the severed head of the Blackamoor and (3) fulfill the Prayer of Jabez by expanding wealth and territory, as a result of successful missions like the Crusades.

Even more frightening is the fact that these objectives are currently, albeit blindly, being embraced by an entire faith of people. Even naïve or self-serving Blacks, who suck up to the powers that be, fail to realize the far reaching and personal adverse affects of their own words and deeds.

Sr. Master Anderson has dedicated his life to helping inner city children. Our students are raised by single parents, grandparents and guardians. People seem to think the only chance an inner city person has is drugs, living on the streets, prison or death! Sr. Master Anderson and his staff specializes in at-risk youth. His definition of "at-risk" is any child with discipline attention, self-esteem or low school achievement problems. He teaches discipline of self through Taekwondo. Also he stresses the importance of academic achievement by encouraging good grades and a "Yes I Can" mindset. He would like for his students to finish high school and continue to college. Besides learning the art of Tae Kwondo, the children also learn to become good, productive citizens by volunteering and helping in their local community. They help at the homeless center, feeding the homeless. The students work at the food shelf making boxes of food for the needy, and they do it with a smile on their face and joy in their heart! Through the leadership of Sr. Master Anderson, Anderson’s TKD Center offers an alternative solution to the problem!

The Center’s Mission Statement:

To provide an environment that is conducive to learning and self-improvement.
To teach responsibility and how to become a positive influence in the community.
To teach discipline, self-control and life-saving skills while giving positive reinforcement and encouragement.
To assess the needs of each individual student, working to meet these needs, thereby developing a more positive and productive person.

The students and parents love and respect Sr. Master Anderson and we wish him the best at testing during the World Championship in June!

Dear Family Member,
My heart goes out to you & your Family with the little one being beaten and arrested. Stand by your family member no matter what. I am fighting a similar ordeal with the police department in Newton, New Jersey arresting my son for being ran over by three white boys, and the driver lying on him "REPORTING A STOLEN WALLET AT GUNPOINT" to avoid vehicular manslaughter charges. The driver had a speeding ticket for running a stop sign w/ no licence the day before running over my son. The car looked like he hit a deer and was repaired in 24 hrs. and sold. The police dept. locked my son up and charged him with Terroristic threats for cursing the driver out after he ran over him leaving him with 2 broken legs, a broken left knee, and broken right ankle w/ muscles pulled away from bone. 3 surgeries later, the police dept. and justice system is charging him with a $75k hit and run bond to say that he ran over himself.
7 attorneys later, our family has little to no money left and he is still in jail while the driver and passengers has not been charged. The police dept. asked me for $75K cash for a wallet and gun "NOT SEEN NOR RECOVERED" from the passengers or driver of the vehicle; let alone the good samaratins that pulled my son to safety to keep the driver from driving over him twice.
The driver admitted via audiotape to a North Carolina insurance investigator that NO WALLET WAS EVEN TAKEN. He wanted to avoid Vehicular Manslaughter charges.

Now if this was a story of three black males in a car driving over a white man,all three would be in jail with no questions asked. See www.americaiswatching.org for Mikel.

Therefore, KEEP THE FAITH. KNOW THAT GOD SEES ALL and will see you through all of this until the end.

Lot's of love, and heartfelt prayers to you & your family. My Email:queen2b43[/B[B]]@yahoo.com is available to you 24/7 if you need help, to talk, or a listening ear!!!!!

11-Year-Old Left On District School Bus

posted 3:16 pm Fri June 27, 2008 -

An 11 year-old is telling his story, after being left on a hot school bus for hours.

His mother is demanding answers while D.C. public schools admit the bus driver made a big mistake.

Kaseem Brown was supposed to be dropped off at the High Road Academy on Kansas Avenue, but ended up at the D.C. Public Schools bus lot two hours later.

"I guess they didn't know I was still on," said Brown.

The boy had fallen asleep on his way to summer school Wednesday morning. He was one of just four students on the bus. But somehow the driver -- and the attendant -- failed to notice when he didn't get off and continued on to the bus lot, where they left the bus and Kaseem behind.

"I woke up, because I was hot and I was sweating. And they locked all the doors and stuff," said Brown.

He said after pounding on the windows, he found the latch that opened the door, then found a man on the lot, who helped get him back to school.

Shortly after 11 a.m. his grandmother -- who happened to be at the school for a meeting -- saw her boy.

He was having trouble breathing. He has asthma. He didn't have his Ibuterol with him, he was sweating," said Evelyn Sykes, Kaseem's grandmother.

She took him to Children's Hospital, where a doctor said he'd had a panic attack. Then she took her questions to the District.

They should have checked to see if my son was on the bus. And how can they let off three children right here at this building, and with four children on the bus, they let three off and left him sitting there," said Sykes.

A District spokesperson admits it should not have happened. He says three people have been disciplined. The driver, the attendant on the bus and the attendant at the bus yard, who also should have checked the bus.

Police killing suspect's jail death ruled homicide
23 hours ago

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Maryland authorities say the death of a teen in his jail cell after he was charged with killing a police officer has been ruled a homicide.

The Maryland Medical Examiner ruled Monday that Ronnie White's death in Prince George's County Correctional Center the previous day was from asphyxiation and strangulation.

White was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Prince George's County Cpl. Richard Findley. Findley was hit and dragged on Friday by a pickup truck that was reported stolen.

Prince George's County Officials say seven guards and an unspecified number of supervisors had access to White at the time of his death a day after he was arrested.

Maryland State Police and the FBI are investigating the 19-year-old inmate's death.

By Weadom Weadom (www.practicalpolitics.info)

After 8 years of the President Bush’s downhill policies that have brought the American people to their knees, Bush decides to take one more shot at them and drag them through the mud.

Bush’s policies have wreaked havoc on the American people, the American family and the American way. From his attempted shredding of the constitution, to the enormous costs of the Iraq War and now to Wall Street and Main Street, Bush, with 6 of his 8 years backed by the Republican controlled rubber-stamp Congress has attempted to destroy the American brand. Now, President Bush has the temerity to ask the Congress to give his political appointee, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, up to $1 trillion to spend as he sees fit.

I don’t know what they are smoking in the White House. Whatever it is, it must have come from Cheech and Chong.

The last time President Bush and his crew asked the American people for a blank check, it was for the Iraq War. He insisted then that the money be a gift and not a loan to the Iraqis. The then rubber-stamp Republican controlled Congress gave it to him.

Well, five years later, the American people are still forking out $12 billion a month for Bush’s Iraq War.

In the meantime, the Iraqi government is running a surplus.

While real estate markets all over the world have slowed because the credit crunch has made mortgages harder to get, Baghdad’s real-estate market is booming. It is nothing for homes in Baghdad to go for $800,00—and they are flying off the shelves.

One might ask, why isn’t the mortgage crises hurting Baghdad’s real-estate market? The answer would be that it is because the $800,000 homes in Baghdad are being paid for with cash$$. Makes one wonder, huh?

Congress reported last May that the Pentagon could not account for $15 billion that was sent to Iraq, no strings, for its reconstruction. This is just like the no-strings $70 billion to $1 trillion that Bush asked Congress for last Friday.

If Congress approves this $700 billion to $1 trillion bailout, the money hungry bloodsuckers will take to flight like locusts. They will find loopholes and schemes to exploit the situation and to line their pockets with this for good intended money.

If one were to step back and take a look at this objectively, one could easily conclude that this is too large of an amount of money to trust any one person or entity to manage. The enormity of managing such a large amount of capital is way out of the scope of what the U.S. Treasury apparatus is set up to handle.

The Congress and the American people should tell President Bush and Secretary Paulson HELL NO!

Tell Bush to do his job for once. Tell him to go back to the drawing board and come up with another solution.

One also has to ask the question, what is next to fall? What do we do then? Can we do this again?

It is clear that if this passes that this will be Bush’s final assault on the American people and American way.

Just do like Nancy Reagan said when she First Lady—treat it like drugs and just say NO!

Ex-felons that are eligible to vote will be denied the right to vote in the 2008 Presidential Election. Why you ask?
As a result of budget cuts The Office Of Executive Clemency located in Tallahassee, Florida has a huge back log. Many ex-felons in the State of Florida (that meet the criteria)to have their rights restored have completed applications, sent them to The Office Of Executive Clemency and today they are still waiting for their certificates so they can register to vote. Many of them have been waiting 1-2 years.

As we have seen in the past the votes in Florida played a critical role in the outcome of our last Presidential Election. Therefore, we cannot afford to have anyone dropping the ball when it comes to making sure that
(everyone that’s eligible to vote) get the opportunity to register to the vote. Our community is very irate regarding this issue. We asked ourselves is it because certain Political Parties, State Legislators and Lobbyist are cognizant of the fact that again the votes from Florida might determine who becomes the next President of our great country ? Is it because they ‘re aware that a large percentage of ex-felons are African Americans and their vote is their voice?
Yet, our government can come up with $700 billion to bail out Freddie Mac.
The same company that possible provided Senator McCain with $15,000 per month in campaign donations.
But, that same government cannot locate funding to provide The Florida Office Of Executive Clemency the manpower to process the Restoration of Rights applications in a timely manner.

We have a saying in our community “If you’re not part of the resolution your part of the problem”
Therefore, we’re conducting a Restoration of Rights Workshop in our community that will consist of the following:
• Restoration of Rights
• Information on how to seal or expunge criminal records.
• Information on employment training and opportunities for ex-felons.
• Pastors of the community will encourage and council them.

These events will be held on Saturday, September 27th and
Friday, October 3rd ,from 3:00p.m.-6:00p.m.
at Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church located at 2670 NW 4th Court in Collier Cit, located in the city of pompano beach.

Our objective is to educate, equip, empower and encourage them so they can be effective and successful in every arena of their lives. We will make them conscious of the fact that their vote is a very powerful instrument to utilize to establish change in the lives of their family and community. So, can you please assist us?
All we’re asking if you can please announce this and get the word out. One of the our biggest obstacles is that our people perish from lack of knowledge. Once we educate them we can equip and empower them. Also, if anyone wants to come aboard and assist us we welcome you. This election is to important and we have to make sure that we're proactive and not reactive. Let ensure that these Political-pimps do not rape us of the opportunity to be heard by denying the ex-felons (that’s eligible) of their right to vote. Remember, we ‘re moving forward not backwards our forefathers died so we could obtain the empowerment to bring change. If our government can locate $700 billion for a bailout, surely, they can provide The Office Of Executive Clemency the necessary funding to remove the chains off the voices of our brothers and sisters that has already paid their debt to society. Many of them have went on and became productive
citizens of society. Let’s not allow the same injustices that tried to silence us during slavery,
to silence us today. Please! Please! remember our vote is our voice.

Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter.

1. I wish Michael B. would emphasize voting early as well as registering. There are TWO steps in voting...registering and then VOTING. To eliminate the trickery at my polling cite I voted early at the board of elections.

2. In Northeast Ohio, some high schools in Cleveland will give the graduate their diploma when they show their voting registration card. We really promote citizenship in our schools.

3. Since Sarah Palin is an expert in foreign affairs due to the fact she can see Russia from Alaska. I can see the moon so that makes me an expert in astrophysics. SMILE

If you have not heard or seen this video, it is definitely mind blowing. This new generation is doomed for failure it we do not stop this from happening. We have to stop this now. This video saddens me to see our youth not being raised, yet being used for adult’s enjoyment. This is not cute, this is deplorable. These parents should be incarcerated.

 how and why are we as a nation, going to bend over and let our government make us pay this bail out, this is not my debt.
if they need 700billion put back into the economy, give it to us and let us pay our bills and spend it putting it back in the market.
why shouldn't these companies have to suck this up and do what they got to do, all those who got fat while the money was rolling, need to put what they got left of it back, liquidate, after all we now see they did not earn it.

they should be made to go back and work with all those buyers and make their loan so they can stay in their house, some money is better than no money,
these companies are just not gonna see the profits they thought they were, so what, thats the money game, its not fair.

we should be marching and talking about this, right now
WE ARE DISTRACTED with the election, and "THEY" know this

come on folks lets tell the goverment, we want a better solution, we want to hear some choices, lets vote on it when we vote for president. we got to watch this government we got now, they have played us for 8 years, don't let them do this to the working people.

don't tell me we don't have choices here. we do, i may not know them, but someone does, it may not be easy for the few, but it's time the many were thought about first.

i'm i the only one who cares about this?
