What will Obama do about inflation?

NOBODY HERE GETS IT EXCEPT 1 PERSON AND THAT PERSON ASK THE QUESTION OF INFLATION.

This problem reflects every other issue on this board.

Every candidate running for president except 1 is promising all these goodies.

1. How will it be paid for?
Answer: Either inflating the countries money supply (debt creation) or devaluing the countries currency or through raising taxes.

We also want new schools and things for our under develop neighborhoods and I am black and want this as well.

We will have to pay somehow.

- For everyone voting for these candidates promising goodies ask how will it be paid for? (expect higher prices in the future and a weak U.S. dollar)

In an election year for the highest office in the land, American politicians from both sides of the isle, are quick to propose all kinds of fiscal stimulus and pork barrel projects to jump start the sputtering US economy. But adding more monetary stimulus to the mix has the potential to ignite hyper-inflation in the US economy, and a speculative attack on the US dollar in the $3.2 trillion a day currency market.

The Fed is signaling aggressive rate cuts at a dangerous time. Inflationary pressures in the US economy are elevated at multi-decade highs. US producer prices were up +6.3% last year, and US consumer prices up +4.1%, the highest in 17-years, compared with +2.5% for 2006. Gasoline costs were up 37%, and food prices were up 9.3% last year, Thanks to the Fed’s cheap dollar policy, US import prices rose +10.9% in 2007, the largest calendar-year increase since 1987.

Only one lone voice of reason from Foggy Bottom is advising caution. “I would be very careful, not to let inflation accelerate too long,” warned Kansas City Fed chief Thomas Hoenig on January 10th.

The world’s currency structure has changed,” declared Xu Jian, vice director of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) on Nov 7th.

“The US dollar is losing its status as the world reserve currency,” he warned. “We will favor stronger currencies over weaker ones, and will readjust accordingly,” added Cheng Siwei, vice chairman of China’s National People’s Congress. On Dec 27th, Hu Xiaolian, director of China’s Foreign Exchange department, wrote, “If the US federal funds rate continues to fall, this will certainly have a harmful effect on the US dollar exchange rate and the international currency system,” he said.

I have a real concern about a question posed to Senator Obama by Senator Edwards on Monday night during the Myrtle Beach Debate. The question was why the senator voted "present" on 100 issues that came before the senate. In my research, I discovered that "present" votes go to the majority. In other words, the yay and nay votes are counted and the majority wins. BUT, what I learned is that the "present" votes go to the majority winner (yay or nay). So why would one vote present? In the example given during the debate, the vote was on a 30% cap on credit card interest. Obama voted "present". I don't know whether the yay's or nay's won but in either event one of them got all the "present" votes. This suggests to me that there was no real thought given to the issue and by voting "present" says to me that he just cast a vote or he just went with the flow. I'd like for the senator to clarify this issue for me.

Not necessarily a question on issues, but more on character. On Anderson Cooper's show yesterday, they reported the false emails going around stating that Sen. Obama is a Muslim. The piece also showed Sen. Obama attending churches and declaring what a devout Christian he is. Why did Sen. Obama feel the need to denounce and thereby insinuate that there is something wrong with Muslims? I was very put off by that. The issue is not with the religion/faith, it's with people. He handled this very poorly in my opinion.

I would really like this questions answered by both canidates, My question is "Why should the Federal Government be responsible for peoples mistakes?" Referring specifically to the Forclosures. If the deal sounds too good to be true it is. I admit something could be done but passing more laws because people didnt bother to find out exactly what they were signing is almost Republican in nature. Government control. I speak from experience I got suckered into a 2nd mortage "Home equity Line of Credit" No one offered to bail me out and I didnt ask IT WAS MY FAULT. Senator Obama frequently speaks about bringing new voters into the democratic process and about our collective voices being heard. In Michigan and Florida, however, he pulled his name off of the ballot because Michigan and Florida broke the National Democratic Party's rules about holding a primary before Super Tuesday.

How does the Senator reconcile his decision to take his name off of the ballot (and, in my opinion, depriving voters of the option to vote for him) with his messages of inclusion (for new and, particularly, younger voters) and inspiration? Does he think the candidates who took their names off the ballot (as a separate and distinct issue from their pledges not to campaign in Michigan and Florida) and the Party made the right decision? Further, I hope the Senator will take time to explain why he believes that his decision did not lead to voter disenfranchisement and why, if he is the nominee, voters in those states should cast ballots for him in the general election, despite the fact that he chose not to actively compete for their votes.

Where do the Self Employed and Under Employed fit into the equation? It seems is if we fall in between the cracks. Although Self Employment Tax exist and the majority of us do pay the tax and there are a large majority of those who work for earnings beneath there worth and yet are thankful to have a job. Yet when it comes to "targeting" groups we get over looked. When it it comes to tax credits, we get overlooked. This current rebate, they
"targeted" the low to middle income bracket whom get "paychecks". What about the ones who work by contract??? This group of the working class represent a portion of this country and is slowly growing. Can you address whether there will be any incentive or stimuli for this class as well?

1) In your speech at Selma's First Baptist Church on the 42nd anniversary of the "Bloody Sunday" freedom march, Sen. Clinton declared: "As a young woman, I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. King speak in Chicago. The year was 1963. My youth minister from our church took a few of us down on a cold January night to hear [King]. . . . And he called on us, he challenged us that evening to stay awake during the great revolution that the civil rights pioneers were waging on behalf of a more perfect union." There seems to be a contradiction with her statement and her political position at the time.

The fact is, in 1963, not only was Sen. Clinton a Republican, but she was also a staunch supporter of Republican Senator Barry Goldwater, well known as a segregationist and one of the most vocal senators adamantly against the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is why he lost in his presidential bid to Lyndon B. Johnson. In her memoirs, she described herself as "an active Young Republican" and "a Goldwater girl, rightdown to my cowgirl outfit." As a politically attuned honor student, she must have known that Goldwater was one of only six Republican senators who joined Southern Democratic segregationists opposing the historic Voting Rights Act of 1964 inspired by King. As such, Sen. Clinton headed the Young Republicans at Wellesley College. Please explain contradiction from being a staunch Goldwater supporter, positioning yourself with his well-known positions on race relations, and your recent statement crediting President Johnson for civil rights progress including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the person you were working against in Sen. I am a Canadian Citizen, recently relocated to Florida. I am a Systems Analyst with 16+ years of experience. I have been on over 30 job interviews and I have had 25 tell me, they would hire me on the spot, IF I was an American Citizen or had a green card. The NAFTA agreement is supposed to allow Canadians in certain positions, work Visas. Some of these employers knew about it, but none of them were willing to get involved in the process. Which is simply supposed to consist of an employment letter.

I would like to know why it is so difficult for your Northern neighbours to obtain employment and start businesses in the U.S.?

I had liked everything about Mr Obama and his action plan, but by ignoring Michigan he made me and my fellow voters here feel demeaned and ignored. Voting uncommitted was akin to voting for someone who was unconcerned... I was interested in whether you and your camp were aware from the gate, of what President Clinton and Senator Clinton were attempting to do when they both almost simultaneously made somewhat derrogatory racial comments.

I know that these two people are not that dumb but rather initiated what they saw as a smart move in an attempt to pull you into a 'race based' campaign.

I didn't like that the Martin L King, Jr. comment was put out because she knew almost every person would object to such a comment and maybe object to the fact that you didn't. The Senator knew she could explain away what her intentions.

And President Bill Clinton felt he had enough black love and support and he could explain the 'fairytale' comment in a thousand different ways.

I think you are a very good person and a very good candidate with good ideas and views. I also know you are up against the 'machine'.
These are two people with a plan started in college and determination that has lasted through more than Monica. Don't let them draw you into the Clinton Camp, this will frustrate them most.

My question to the Senator is would you seek relief for those college students that have taken out loans to attend and finish college and are in repayment? When the interest rates increased, so did the amount of payments on their loans. Unless college students were able to find well-paying jobs, there are those whose loans are in repayment and are struggling to make their monthly payments. These are those students whose families were above the poverty line for grants but below what I would call middle class so loans were needed. These graduated students are the future of this country, however, they are suffering because they decided to go to college and had to get loans which now have ridiculous interest rates. Having a college education does not sound like an asset when you are in repayment like this.

#1 As a teacher in south florida we hardly get enough to make it especially being a single parent. How are you going to ensure that we get raises. There are teachers with a MASTERS degree only making 44,000 per year (10 years service)BEFORE TAXES.

#2 Is there any way that our loans can be forgiven? Many teachers are in debt with student loans. Our salaries certainly cannot give room to pay them back. The only loans that they forgive is if you teach in a critical shortage area and a PERKINS loan. The majority of teachers do not teach a critical shortage area and PERKINS loans are obsolete from my investigations, most teachers have a regual Federal Loan. Can they forgive a portion considering that do not pay us enough to survive. Many of us go over and beyond time and money. And it's not fair. Men who pay child support has no benefits such as no tax write off but the women who receives child support also gets the tax write off there a problem. In Michigan and Florida, however, he pulled his name off of the ballot because Michigan and Florida broke the National Democratic Party's rules about holding a primary before Super Tuesday.

My question is every year the amount that is awarded to the County to assist low and moderate income individuals gets smaller and smaller and the bureacracy associated with receiving these funds and the regulations with which we have to comply gets longer and harder. In some instances we have the money and because of the red tape, the County cannot spend the money in a timely manner, in cases where there are contract periods. How do you, Mr. Obama intend to address these issues.

I would like to know what we are going to do about crime and our youth. What are your intentions to combat youth violence here on U.S. soil? I would like to know why we are not holding parents accountable for their children's' actions? I feel if you bring parenting back into child-raising, the youth crime rate will drop. I don't think any parent is going to want to be punished for a crime committed by their children. Then maybe we can stop building prisons today to accommodate our youth of tomorrow. I don't care if the person is a single parent or if both parents are in the household, they should be able to raise their children to be respectful and law abiding citizens. Why are we killing each other? The answer lies in the way we are raising our children in today's society. There are a lot of areas that we can point the finger at: music, videos, movies, etc; but if we as parents can start having more input regarding what our children have access to then we can regain control of our youth. 1. What if any transition will there be for healthcare for high school students going into college? Considering those that did not have health care during highschool. Also those that were under there parents insurance that may have expired while in college. These are the critical times where students are becoming adults, being students with limited resources healthcare is needed.

2.Will the be any leverage between the difference in pell grants and the cost of school. There is no increase in grants yet an increase in the cost of education each year. For lower income families where students may receive receive the grants they make attempts to receive loans but their parents don't qualify or to cosign for them. What things can be put in place to help those students fulfill the goal of getting an education in situations such as this?

I am a full-time college student and single mother I also work part-time. I currently have a federal pell grant which doesn’t even cover 50% of my college tuition. I'm struggling just to get by and when I graduate I'm afraid that I will continue to struggle from paying back on student loans. Hi Senator Obama. I'm a 33 year old single parent with a master's degree, and part of the working poor class. i live from pay check to pay check as a social worker. I have been in and out of child support court for 13 years. With absolutely no success, i've tried 5 different routes to collect child support, took out 2 abandonment warrants, and most recently, another abandonment warrant last year, which has not been followed through on by the county police department to date. I pay for good health benefits, but honestly can't afford co-pay for myself or child because food, shelter and gas are immediate and more important--notice i didn't include 'clothing'. Plus, i live in a one bedroom apartment. The economy is bad, and the child support system is a mess. Have you ever thought about, or do you have plans for the child support system and the educated poor? Will I ever own a home, have $100 between bi-weekly pay periods, a savings account, a bed, and a bedroom of my own? Even though you have my vote, i sometimes just don't see how i really matter in any election--do you?
