Bob Johnson criticizes Obama
Full article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080114/ap_po/clinton_johnson_3
• Bob Johnson, the nation's first black billionaire and founder of the BET cable television network, said Obama's campaign had acted dishonestly by distorting Clinton's remarks about Martin Luther King Jr.
• Clinton was quoted just before the New Hampshire primary as saying King's dream of racial equality was achieved only when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
• Some criticized the remark as suggesting Johnson deserved more credit than Martin Luther King, Jr.
• Johnson’s comments also seemed to hint at Obama's youthful drug use.
• Obama wrote about his youthful drug use - marijuana, alcohol and sometimes cocaine - in his memoir, "Dreams from My Father."
• Clinton was not yet on stage when Bob Johnson made his statements.
Johnson’s comments:
• “That kind of campaign behavior would not be reasonable with me for a guy who says 'I want to be a reasonable, likable, Sidney Poitier.”
• "To me, as an African American, I am frankly insulted the Obama campaign would imply that we are so stupid that we would think Hillary and Bill Clinton, who have been deeply and emotionally involved in black issues — when Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood; I won't say what he was doing, but he said it in his book — when they have been involved.”
Bob Johnson denies Drug slap at Obama

An hour later, the Clinton campaign put out an email from Robert Johnson saying that Johnson was referring to Obama’s time as a commuity organizer – not referencing drug use.

• Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have become embroiled in racially-tinged disputes as large numbers of black voters prepare to vote in South Carolina.
• Hillary Clinton had said King's dream of racial equality was realized only when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
• Clinton advisers point to a memo written by an Obama staffer compiling examples of comments by Clinton and her surrogates that could be construed as racially insensitive.
Michigan Primary approaches
http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSN1336891320080114
• Republican John McCain holds a slim lead on rival Mitt Romney in Michigan
• McCain narrowly leads Romney 27 percent to 24 percent among likely Republican voters in Michigan.
• Democrats also will hold a primary in Michigan, but a dispute between the state and national party led top Democratic candidates Barack Obama and John Edwards to keep their names off the ballot.
• Sen. Hillary Clinton is the only top contender listed.
• However, she faces opposition from voters that cast their ballots as “uncommitted” which could be as support for her Democratic rivals
• This could give a slight edge to McCain in the GOP race
Michigan Primary: Democrats punish Michigan for Early Primary
Full article:

• Under Democratic National Committee rules, only Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina are allowed to hold primaries before February 5th.
• In an effort to increase the state’s influence in the nominee selection process, Michigan decided to move their primary up to January 15th.
• This was in violation of party rules, and as a result, the Democratic National Party stripped Michigan of its delegates to the National Convention.
• The only choices on the ballot are
1. Hillary Clinton
2. Dennis Kucinich
3. uncommitted

This is an unbelievable article in the Washington Post about the lack of support that Barack Obama has been getting by our so called "leaders". In the spirit of Obama's campaign, I will not opine about people's motives, so I will let you read the article yourself and you can arrive at a decision about the implications of this article.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/11/AR2008011102000.html?hpid=opinionsbox1
This is a very insightful article coming on the heels of Bob Johnson's vile comments (as he was introducing Hillary herself). Now with respect to Bob Johnson, I pull no punches. A man who supports Bush's initiatives, who made billions by peddling an image of blacks as nothing but drug dealers and prostitutes, now comes out and attacks Obama--a man who strives to capture the imagination of not only African Americans, but all Americans. Let's see Bob, you would be offended by an African American that is running for president on the message of hope but you peddle the smut of the world and represent African Americans in the most misogynistic and myopic perspective. I can't believe that this sellout is on this radio show, and I'm very interested on how Michael will approach this man. I hope that Michael does not minimize how insidious this comment was.
But where "leaders" have withdrawn into the twilight, we--men of Omega--step into the breach to carry on the mantle of leadership. All of us in Omegas for Obama realize that we don't need to be lead, we have the intellect, enthusiasm, and determination to be leaders without waiting for direction nor seeking the permission of others.

I wish Mike would be honest. He is telling a blatant lie. He was not supporting Hilliary, on any level.
He said he got 1000 negative emails about Bob Johnson, why won't he talk about the 1000 negative emails regarding his tone and his bias stance when Bill Clinton was one.
Michael seems to have become a spin doctor, just liek the right wing conservatives on the Fox Network.
Bob Johnson, who I think is not someone I would be caught dead with, is able say what he wants. He has a right to voice his opinion like you.
SHAME ON YOU!!
I have lost some respect for you. I will continue to listen, but I now know what I am dealing with.

Why don't they just stop talking about the other candidates. I haven't heard Obama say anything negative about his opponents and it appears that Hilary is just scared and she needs to stop bringing up his name. When a reporter asks you about him just I will not discuss the personal life and affairs of my other candidates. If it's not about their voting records or their stance on certain issues then shut up about it.
I really like Edwards now. I think he and Obama would make a good team. Either one being the head. ALso have you noticed that Edwards has almost always come to the defense of Obama and has never talked negatively about him. I think he knows he has a chance with Obama, they would work as a good team. Hillary seems to be the only one saying negative stuff. And Obamas campaign, never said anything about her comments they just responded to it when asked about it by reporters. So let's get that straight.

This is the reason why Afro Americans will not vote. We all smoked a little weed in our time so what I'm surprise at Bob Johnson. This is why we dont support our race. How are we going to teach our children this is the very thing that stops us to grow. Tip for tate i tell you it goes on and on and never stops. This make me not want to vote but i will. Cause i need to be counted in as voteing. I will be glad when this is over but then we have to deal with the out come of it all.

First of all, I want to make it clear that I believe Tavis to be a very intelligent person for whom I have much respect and will continue to consider a leader in the black community and whose lead I will probably be willing to follow on most subjects. I feel that he differentiates himself from some leaders in our community because he insists on action rather than a lot of words...
With that said, I want to also say that I am disappointed by his recent commentary in regard to Obama. I'm not yet ready to put him in the same category as Bob Johnson but Tavis and Magic Johnson have put me at odds with them politically and socially which is a little shocking for me but I am still grateful for their continued contributions to the community.
O.K., so what am I really saying?... I feel that many Black Americans who are in the public eye are trying too hard to prove that they wont support Obama simply because of his race.
I feel that Magic Johnson, Tavis Smiley and Rev. Al (along with Bob Johnson) have decided that it makes us somehow look less intelligent or strong if we are labeled as supporting Barack totally based on race. While, no decision should be made solely on the basis of race, this is one where race is a strong factor.
Overwhelmingly, and long before Katrina, we have been disenfranchised as a race, we have been unfairly targeted as a race and we have been divided for far too long as a race. I believe that there are decisions that can be made at the executive level within our government that will impact the race issues in our country and no one other than a black person will ever have the emotional, historical and personal connectivity to be able to be convicted to our cause for the long haul.
The Clintons would be a good political option for black voters (if there was no Barack Obama) but they will never do anything for black America that wont first serve their own political agendas and when it is all said and done they will be the Justin Timberlakes of the superbowl (leaving Janet hanging literally and figuratively) and not the Robin Thicke of the Grammy's (who accepted his shunning full and forthright).
I don't believe that Tavis or Rev. Al would actually end up supporting any candidate other than Obama but there constant insistence on our in-depth investigation into who he is, lowers his credibility among less politically-educated blacks who follow their lead and it is of detriment to us all. A lot of people will take much of what is said in the higher ranks of the black community and have it equal support Hillary, not what it actually means, which is be critical of all of our candidates, which can be said without using any individual candidates name.
So what people think you support Barack Obama because he's black. As an intelligent, individual who has the ability to think critically, effect and change lives, what you know of yourself should be enough.

Please do not minimize the Hillary comment. If it was said in a vacuum, maybe we could let it pass without thinking twice about it. But when you look at the events that have taken place in the past couple of weeks, you start seeing a pattern, and pretty soon you start understanding behind this pattern is a calculated and--without being overly dramatic--sinister campaign to derail Obama. I will get into their plans in a bit..but first, examples of how would be good
* The New Hampshire co-chair of Hillary Clinton came out and insinuated that Barack Obama might have sold drugs, might have been a drug dealer. Of course he said that is what the Republicans "would" say, but the point is that HE said it, and by extension, Hillary said it
* Hillary Clinton's New York chair, Governor Cuomo, came out yesterday and said you "cannot shuck and jive" as President of the United States . Of course he said it was a misunderstanding
* Hillary Clinton said that while Martin Luther King might have "dreamed the dream"; it took a Lyndon Baines Johnson to enact the dreams of King. Basically discounting the works of King and proclaiming that in the end, it took a president to give us the rights that we worked hard to achieve.
* Bill Clinton said that the Obama campaign was a "fairy tail", and that Obama, a man who worked as a community organizer, a man who graduated from Harvard, a role model that all black kids could look up to, was just a kid. Of course, this was another “misunderstanding”.
*And of course the bootlicking Bob today on this show blatantly lying. This is disgusting to me.
We have to realize that this is the Clinton strategy. They have made a calculated decision to forgo the black vote and cast Obama as the candidate for African Americans instead of a candidate for all Americans. By ceding the black vote, they hope to marginalize him to the rest of America. They are attempting to drive a wedge between African Americans and the rest of America--we have to see through this strategy and not fall prey to it.

You are right, this is really a turn off to voting. But, thankfully that will not deter you. We are just beginning this and it won't be over soon.
The president is the most powerful position in the country, if not the world. All parties are going to pull out all stops to win. Bob Johnson has a right to voice his opinions, and you have a right to turn them off and not be influenced by them. (his opinions).
I believe his comments were directed to the young people, because this is the venue of Obama's campaign. Who else watches BET, but the young folk.
It's funny though, why did they wait to get to Carolina to discuss this? It wasn't a factor in Iowa or New Hampshire. hmmmm.

needs to come upon the CLOWNS that advise people to vote in the first place. I picked-up a Jet magazine this past weekend and it was so really very crazy the number of people that have never voted one day in their lives that have decided to stand up and vote now (but it just goes to show that Our Heavenly Father wasn’t part of their past positions on being a non-voter.) Of course this is impart because of the national influence people have received to vote, it doesn’t help that people have to hear that tired line “If you don’t vote don’t complain”. Well I am here to tell you those that are giving such influence really very sad to see your future for Our Heavenly Father is not going to play with you at all. You obviously don’t understand the commandment to not be a sub-joiner of evil doers (which is what voting is I guess Bush didn’t wake you up to those facts yet) but I have been here telling you very wise information but the bible speaks of talking to people with deaf ears. I shall pray for the innocent that didn’t have a clue and those that were told but ignored. Sad but so very true……If your weren’t caught up discussing voting you wouldn’t be in such a position to take someone’s comment out of context know would you? It's really very funny cause some of you have spent $thousands$ of dollars furthering your education and your still not educated on the most important person Our Heavenly Father. Pitiful......
Always: Love, Peace & Harmony all over the world

This is a bold slap in the face of all African American from another African American. I've never been a BET viewer nor will I be one now. Who is he to come to the so call defense of the Clintons, do he know that a mast movement of our Black men were sent to prison during the Clinton adminstration. Wake up Black America, the time you spend watching BET is the time you need to be reseaching and finding out how we as African American are being tricked, downplayed, left behind and setup to fight one another. Once again, we are divided during an election, we will never come together no matter what African American runs. Sometime I wounder what our past heros are saying amongst themselfs, why did they give there lives to see a moment in History such as this one to come and finally have a real chance. But as longs as we seperate our vote as African American, we will never get over the hump because we keep knocking ourselfs down. They must be laughing there heads off after this incident with Bob Johnson.

And furthermore, the Clintons are using what was used during slavery, division of the race. It worked then, it's up to you to see through the progaganda, and not allow that to work again.
Watch out for the conniving, scandalous ways that they will surely pull in the future. They have already twisted this whole thing around blaming the Obama campaign for bringing race into the issue. WHEN THEY HAVEN'T SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THIS!! IF THAT AIN'T SCANDALOUS, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.

It is strange that this was not an issue in the other states that they were campaigning in. Also we should not lose focus on the issues that are important to us as voters. Bob Johnson is about himself, thats why he sold BET. Thats right I said it, and it is NOT the Obama camp.;)

So my Baisden family i hope you heard his closing in this interveiw and i quote " I want you to vote for the BEST (not qualified) person (not candidate) and I'll Be HAPPY" end quote. I am in agreement with Mr. Johnson and you, Michael. This subject has gotten out of hand and people should listen first and speak afterwards. All of the comments that was said about Mrs. Clinton is not true and it hurts me that us as a nation are still playing the race card. In order to move forward we at sometime need to let go of the race and accept consequences for our own actions and stop hollowing the race card. This is getting old. I am supporting Hiliary Clinton because I feel she is the better of the 2 to run this country and not because of the color of her skin.
Mr. Johnson is right about the Clintons and a lot of people have forgotten that they help move forward alot of issues concerning the Black community as a whole. People are fickle and they see a black young man running for President and forget that he needs to be more seasoned soon we as a nation can come together support him. But until this happens, he need to stop going personal and get back to the issues that really concern the nation whether its positive or negative.

absolutly not.
I think Mike has shown that he is neither balanced or rational. If he were, he would not "spin" the conversation to point in favor of anyone. He would pose a question, and wait for the replies from the listeners.
firday's show and ALL of his comments were bias against Hilliary, which if fine, but he keeps saying he is undecided. Then he has the nerve to say he thinks the statement by Hilliary are being taken too seriously and out of proportion.
HE IS THE ONE WHO MADE IT A BIG DEAL. I feel that this is now about HIS RATINGS AND HIM BEING CONTROVERSAL!! Which is fine, but don't pretend to be some type of savior "us"
I continues (even today) to say "his listeners say". Based on the boards, he is not expressing what the average listerner is saying.
How is it that every call is supporting what he is saying? There is NO WAY that is possible. I DARE BAISDEN to put a caller own that doesn't agree with him.
The fact of the matter is this. There is more than 2 candidates running and if Baisden really wanted to enlighten the people, he would not be focusing on just Hiliary and Obama. He would not be spending 2 days on the foolishness of he said she said.
Politics is about spinning informationto cater to your needs. Perhpas he is thinking of throwing his had into the political arena. He sure as hell is talking out of both sides of his mouth. JUST LIKE THE CANDIDATE.
It's all foolishness. LIBERATION WILL NOT BE LEGISLATED. Believe that!

Mr. Johnson's statements and his solid support of the Clinton's just proves what has been said about Black people. It's said that Blacks are just like crabs. If you put them all in a bucket and one tries to crawl out, the others, instead of trying to get out too, will pull that one back in.
Blacks are always talking about what the Clinton's did for Blacks and referring to Clinton as the first Black President. Bill and Hillary Clinton are White people, and they could care LESS about YOU! Anyone would seem like a good president behind Bush!!! Obama is the only candidate who truly represents change for this country. Hillary pretended for years that she wanted nothing to do with running for president. Both she and her husband are up-holding the racist idea that a being WHITE is superior to being BLACK. A Black man must not be president before a White woman. What's amazing is there are so many black men up-holding that belief, probably more than white men.
There are more children suffering in foster homes today because of the decision that Clinton made when he passed the Adoption and Safe Families Act in 1997. Go to the website: www.shreddedsociety.com; after reading the story click on the link for suggested reading. Our children are the ones who suffer the most and no, all the parents aren't on drugs as the state would have you to believe.
What are the real issues, Obama supports the Responsible Father's Program because he is a responsible father. He truly supports education and the children. Four more years of what we've had in the past looks too bleek for me. The government already owns our children. Hillary "used" the African Proverb, it takes a "Village" to raise a child, well her Village must be the U.S. Government and a Government makes for a poor parent.
All you men and some of you women, don't feel as though what Clinton did with Monica Lewinsky was wrong. Well a president should be held accountable for what he does in office the same as those parents whose rights were terminated due to Clinton's Safe Families Act Bill were held accountable for far less. He disgraced the White House and should never, ever be allowed to reside there again. A Black man couldn't even consider it after pulling a stunt like that! BLACKS need to stop acting like crabs and PRAY for Obama and give him the support he's earned. What you are really trying to do is put Bill back in office again at the expense of Hillary. It won't work, traveling backwards never results in any good.
I don't know about anyone else, but I am truly sick of the Clinton's and the Bush's. During Bill Clinton's term if you remember the press was constantly saying that you couldn't tell if he was a Democrat or a Republican. He's DEAR FRIENDS with George Bush Sr. All I can say is educate yourselves and stop dealing with emotions. It's easy for someone like Johnson to support this same bull-crap because he's not suffering as others will. Know the facts, be informed about the issues that are important for you and your family.

Mike, I think you are a hyprocrite!!!. You remind me of a person, who starts stuff then run, and jump on the other side of the fence. Stand up for what you believe, and stop straddling the fence. When you talk to former Pres. Clinton, you were not friendly about the comments that was suppose to have been made from the Clintons, now today, you are jumping on the band wagon that defends Hillary. I am sure, America is sitting back laughing at the way the black and certain black media are responding to the negative press. In my opinion you are being suckled right in this. Remember you can be replace, because you do not own that station and when you think you have arrive, whittie is sitting back waiting to pull the plug, so it is my recommendation to continue to good work you are doing, but try to stay neutral.

Dont worry itsmedc Radio AD are dropping from his show and its not the first time in L.A they can't even sell all the ad time.. When ever you hear music thats not a song usally before the call in voiceover that would be air time the local station can't fill. MB has national ads which arent very high why he hates being called Black radio the money smaller vs other national shows. the biggest part of the Hypocrite statement is MB saying we need more radio personality when every time he gets a new radio station 5 to 7 people get fired from that station he's single handedly killed the future of many black DJ's in every city hes in. Not every city has 4 or 5 stations for a black DJ to work most only have 2 or 3 at best

Now I am a firm beliver in the right to vote for whom ever you choose....BUT COME ON PEOPLE....why can't we endorse the black man who is running for President? Obama is a nice good guy. So what if he experimented with a little weed..who hasn't. That is what is wrong with our people today. We always complain that the "man" is holding us down and treating us bad. Now that we have a chance to do something about; we our own people dogging our black canidate. Why wouldn't Bob Johnson support Obama. Any black person with a little sense, money, and power should be supportive of Obama. I could see if not supporting him if he was scandulous, but he is not. He seems to be a stand up guy and now we have our own people acting a fool.
I sure hope we as a people can get some act right and support our black canidate. Who knows when this opportunity will come again. This history in the making and I for one and VOTING OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!

The problem with this whole scene, which is on a daily basis with the news media, is that THIS IS POLITICS black people. Bob Johnson, Tavis Smiley, President Bill Clinton or anyone else don't owe anyone an apology. You see most of you, that is in these forums, never before paid attention to anything political before. Now since we have a person of color, because Obama never said he was black,( neither Tiger Woods), so I don't call him a black man, everyone wants to throw their 2 cents in. Everyone wants to defend Obama... Poor Obama, that is what I hear. Why is they talking about him, because he don't talk about nobody. Well black people let me tell you something, in Politics there is no pity game. Either you have the ability to attack and keep the pressure on, or you will get trampled. Ask Obama supporter John Kerry. Now he was not a person of color, but he was attacked by Bush's supporters, but I didn't see any complaints or forums saying it was not fair, or maybe I just missed yours, by the way did you send yours. I personally have a job, a car, money saved , health insurance and hopefully a future in retiring on day. Many people these days cannot say that. I'm not a Hillary supporter, but I am for the person who will fight for the future of this country. I'm not worried about the first black President, I don't care about making history, because when all the hype is over, then what, then what.... Like everyone I know we don't have time to wait. You see, Obama will be too busy trying to please all these good white folks that voted for change. So all us poor, uneducated, elderly, no healthcare people, disinfranchised people, will have to wait at the back of the line. The change that Obama is talking don't include blacks, because our issues and concerns are not new, they are old. After the war, and satisfying the rich supporters, then his term will be up. So you tell me, WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU?
HAVING A MAN OF COLOR FOR PRESIDENT, THAT HAS TO SATISFY HIS WHITE SUPPORTERS FIRST. (YOU BETTER KNOW HE WILL, THIS IS POLITICS BLACK PEOPLE)... OR SOMEONE, IT DON'T HAVE TO BE HILLARY CLINTON, BUT SOMEONE WHO WILL GIVE THE BLACK PEOPLE WHAT WE NEED... AND THAT IS HELP. NOT JUST TALK TO SOUND GOOD MR. OBAMA. THINK BLACK PEOPLE BEFORE YOU TALK. IF YOU ARE GOING TO COMPETE, LEARN THE POLITICAL GAME. THERE ARE NO APOLOGIES IN THIS GAME. I SAID IT AGAIN, OBAMA WAS PUT IN THIS POSITION BY OPRAH, HOW COULD HE REFUSE WITH OPRAH GOING PUBLIC WITH THIS. NOW YOU ARE IN IT OBAMA, WAIT, JUST WAIT, IF YOU DO GET THE DEM NOMINATION. THOSE REPUBS WILL TEAR YOUR LITTLE SOFT IMAGE UP. TOO SOFT OBAMA. BLACK PEOPLE GET SOMEONE WHO WILL HAVE THE POWER AND KNOWLEDGE TO HELP US RIGHT AWAY. 8 YEARS WITH BUSH IS MURDER... 4 YEARS AFTER WITH OBAMA IS SUICIDE. VOTE FOR YOUR INTEREST, NOT YOUR COLOR! FURTHERMORE OBAMA IS NOT EVEN TRYING TO GET OUR VOTE. HE THINKS WE OWE IT TO HIM. SERIOUSLY! THINK FOR YOURSELF... PEACE

One more thing folks and I will be done for today.
Understand that ALL OF THE CANDIDATES, ALL OF THEM are politicians. There job is to say what you need to hear to get your vote.
I said it on my Clinton thread and I am saying with the Bob Johnson issue, I don't just any of them. NOT ONE.
Yes I am going to vote, but I don't understand for the life of me how people can know who they are voiting for already. Based on what?
Obama? Hillary? Please. they are all dealing in BS. I can't believe Baisden is going so hard to support any of them. The reality is, none of thema re to be trusted. As far as I am concerned, and I am still undecided, Obama, being black, is simply the lesser of two evils (not literally, so don't start tripping!!!). Obama, Hilliary and every one of the other candidates are going to cater to the rich and those that actually RUN the country. The hands that they shake on their way, are the hands they must stay connected to when they get in office.
Don't think for a minute Obama is any better than Hillairy or vice versa.
The fact of the matter is, most people are going to vote with emotion. Hell, most of the 15 million listeners Michael threatened Bill Clinton with won't even vote. So stop it!!!!
Most of these people are in debt from bying flat screens for their apartments and driving Lexus' while they can't pay their electric bill. You think I care who they whine about voting for. sorry, but it is true.
I suggest everyone stop looking for a Savior in Hilliary or Obama. There is a bigger entity ruling the country and we had better understand that and quick.
It doesn't really matter who backs what candidate. The "have's are still going to look out for themselves. And the "have nots" will suffer.
The "have's" will NEVER share what they HAVE with the HAVE NOT'S. The best we can do is to go into business for ourselves, find a legitimate hustle and stick with it.
I SAY AGAIN AND I WILL KEEP SAYING IT - LIBERATION CAN NOT AND WILL NOT COME BY WAY OF LEGISLATION. Believe that!!!
You had better believe in GOD as your savior and know that no matter who is in office - THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S AND THE FULLNESS THERE OF!!!
My fate lies in GOD, not a man (black or otherwise) or a woman (white or otherwise).

I was just wondering if you thought your comments were little strong. Considering the election has yet to occur?
absolutly not.

In my opinion and obviously the opinion of many other African-Americans, Bob Johnson is the last man on earth who should be criticizing the acts of another human being, especially if that human being happens to be another African-American man.
Bob Johnson is the most "racist" African-American that I have ever seen in my life. He appears to be an African-American man of great success and stature yet he started, and is continually promoting and involved with a network that degrades, defames, shames, insults, deceives, and hurts the image, social standing, and intelligence of African-American women, men, and children.
He might as well be placing the noose around our necks himself. He is the last one the Clintons should be supporting and/or rallying with in their efforts to prove their love for the black community and their attention to the issues that affect us. Bob Johnson clearly is not the pinnacle nor the voice of the African-American people, and it's a shame that the Clintons and many of Bob Johnson's supporters don't realize this. I assume they're too busy watching American Gangster, 106 & Park, Rap City, Hell Date, and Ringtone commercials to see Bob Johnson for who he clearly is- a destroyer and not a leader of the African-American people and community (And he's made billions of dollars doing so. Shame on him for that).
And to make matters worst he sold his "entertainment" network to a powerful, rich, white network and their affiliates, and became nothing more than a foolish house ni**a who now allows white powerhouses to display us even more horribly than he once did, and he supports them in doing so. He's always pushing and promoting B.E.T, and striking the whip across the backs of African-Americans each and every time that he does. But he has the nerve to attack Barak Obama? This is not in defense of Barak Obama, his beliefs, nor his campaign. I will surely vote for the best suitable candidate in my opinion (Regardless of race, male, or female). This is just my opinion of a man who is continually contributing to the destruction of the image and social standing of African-Americans, and all of the "support" that he receives because of it. Can we absolutely be that blind? Now, he has the right to support whatever candidate he wants to support, but hating Barak Obama does not make him "fit in" any more than it makes him look spineless and foolish. It's obvious that when they want a influential African-American to destroy and tear down another influential African-American, they know who to call on. Because you have not seen Bob Johnson campaigning for anyone until now.
Indeed what a joke and disgrace this sold called African-American man is.
And one more thing "Picture B.E.T actually entertaining us; instead of shaming, defaming, and disgracing us."

Damn Mike
right after your interview with that CLOWN 'SPONGE BOB' you came back with Keshia Cole new release 'I should have let you go' and all i could flash back to is how bob johnson sold us out after we supported his network for many years.
He sold it to a power which he knew wanted that market. The young black market. He sold it and then said on your show that he's ALRIGHT. I know thats right BOB. In your secret society family once your excepted SATAN you will be ALRIGHT! You, Jay-Z's, Beyounce's, 3-666 Mafia, 50 cent's, now Knye West, lil Wayne's and Cash Money's, i could go on but you get the message.
So mR. 'SPONGE BOB' like the Keshia Cole lyrics goes... you could never undo what you've done to me i love to deep in my heart and soul. I just kept holding on. I should have let you go long, long time ago!
I believe if your trying to "SUPERMAN DAT HOE" then I feel you've been Bought and Sold into the modern day slave trade.
Don't think i'm buying or selling!!!!!

WHY CAN'T OBAMA BE CRITICIZED? Because he is the first balck man who has a real chance at the presidency. PA-LEASE!!! When you are in the public eye, you are going to have a larger scope of critism. This is simply good practice, becuase he he does win, he hasn't seen scrutiny!

I think Mr. Johnson has a right to his opinion. I use to enjoy watching BET, and now I limit what I watch. Because of the exposure from BET, a lot of our young black entertainer are very successful. Can you see Beyone flipping burgers?, or J-Zee mowing the lawn.? (I don't think so) I am proud our your blacks are successful through the media, however, I do not spport the name calling of our women, and then again, our black womem should take responsiblity and now allow themselves to be portayed as some of them are doing. While watching American Bandstand you did not see many black entertainers. I did not like the way Mr Johnson, threw hints about Obama pass life, but then again, it was in Obama's book, so what do people expect? As far as a voter, I still have not decided which way, but I do know, it will be a democrate regardless, and not a Republican, because it is time for those Republicans to leave, the WHITEHOUSE and CONGRESS!!!!

Why do you advice people to be a sub-joiner of evildoers? Why do you put yourself in the position to possibly damn yourself and someone else? If you want to vote, vote but please stop advising other people to do as such. It’s sort of like telling your child to go out and sell crack your telling your child to participate along side evildoers and to do evil, right?
You may think Africa is going through their turmoil during this voting season because of their past turmoil and because of this & that but you had really better wake up to the fact that that is a really to serve as a wake-up call for you and other voters. It is really a shame people seem to thing “It will never happen to you”. No matter how much evidence around the globe there is put in people faces you all seem to think “It will never happen to the USA” well think again. And people that are none voters in Our Heavenly Fathers name do just as much if not more in the community than the average man for that is why we are here to work in Our Heavenly Fathers name not in “joe blows” name plus I can speak for myself I don’t need any of those candidates to speak for me but the millions of people that vote don’t seem to think they can speak for themselves. Perhaps you may wake up in due time.

Toneyp, I just don't vote, I study the candidates. I watch the debates, I email these candidates on their web pages. You see Toneyp, I am a total educated voter. Not someone trying to put anybody down, not telling you who to vote for, but asking, just asking that we as black people are not taken for granted and use your own personal interest to base your vote. Not because someone is of color, but if that person is of color, then let it be Toneyp. Please educate yourself, I know a lot of us don't, we just listen to the media and don't get the actual facts. Politics will either make you or break you... once you jump in the ring, you better start fighting, because no one will feel sorry for you. That's all I'm saying Toneyp. Peace!

Please, Please, Let's stop talking a-b-o-u-t Barak Obama and all his "a-s-s-u-m-e-d" statements and talk T-O Obama. I mean it's the Clintons that are pushing this debate. "They" say it's him. But D@mn! They made the comments. It came from their mouth. It's out there now. Nobody made them say what they said. Nobody is responsible for what I say but me. The buck stops here. It's the same with them. They weren't talking to Black People anyway! They message was for "Real Americans (European Decent)". It was c-o-d-e speak. They knew what they were saying and who they were saying it to. It wasn't meant for us. It was meant to associate the "Southern Whites" with T-h-e-i-r feelings about King and Kennedy!
I mean: Wake Up! Bill Clinton didn't do anything for Black People as President. He did it for the "American People (code for European)" and w-e merely b-e-n-e-f-i-t-e-d from what they did for T-H-E-M! "Rising Tides Lift A-l-l Boats." This is the same Clinton that signed NAFTA. He contributed to the "Grid-Lock" in Washington. We gave President Clinton our vote ... But how many of us CONTRIBUTE MONEY to his Campaign?
The Clintons don't O-W-E us anything! They know it! Then we have these "Porch Monkeys" with no real connection to their Black Community coming out defending them. Whom a person supports in politics is their business but don't talk about me when I'm not there to defend myself. Why not have an Obama asssociate on at the s-a-m-e time as Mr. Clinton? The airwaves are being saturated with the Clinton Name. It's everywhere. TV, Radio, Internet are all reporting: The Clintons. They are doing interviews on TV and Black Radio. Everybody is giving them a chance to "Tell Their Side". You know: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". Then ... "What I Meant Was ...".
Please Black Radio Host: Stop giving them your airwaves and your audience if you will not at least have representives of the other candidate there to anwser and respond. In the entertainment business: All Publicity is Good Publicity. Stop give them all this FREE Publicity under the guise of: Explaining Their Side.

Please!
We are all entitled to our opinions. We do NOT all have to agree. WE OWE no one other than GOD ANYTHING! That includes the Clintons.
READ the candidates websites (they all have them) The time spend arguing on this site could be better spent EDUCATING YOURSELF! So if you plan on voting, then get educated.
I have checked the Obama website. This is media feeding frenzy and we all are guilty. So let it go. If you have children, take into consideration that so does Obama and so does Edwards (younger children) These men will do what is best for their families not just those who think they are owed favors. Look for content of character- RESEARCH not just what you hear on the radio or see on TV- BE ABOUT LEARNING MORE FOR YOURSELF.
What YOU Know- cannot be taken from you.

and blacks when he was at BET, that fool sound so stupit that I am ashamed.
This is just my personal opinion but...I don't think the government will support a female or black candidate, regardless of which one the people vote in. With racism, as well as sexism, still going strong in this country....We would be setting them up for failure. After the government is done with the smoke and mirrors routine, the nation would be screaming for an impeachment. If the government can create evidence of weapons of mass destruction to start a war, complete with satellite images and intel from "creditable" sources, it would be easy to make some believe that they shouldn't be there. Maybe I'm just trippin' on my conspiracy theory ish again. Feedback welcomed.

Michael Baisden is a lizard, change according to the situation, those people are the worst, because they can kill you and you donot know you are going to die because they smile while they are killing you, I knew it, so now are the true colors of the black sorrogates are coming out, the clintons started the name caliing how dear michael is saying that hillary comments is blown out
of context, he don't know that so how make such a comment, but again the clintons stirring up the plantation, and who is going to get hurt the blackman obama on the field.

We must ban together and support Obama. Johnson is makng money from the self destruction of young black children. If he loses his rump shaker show he will be broke so he is fighting to keep the image of a strong black man in front of the world. I dare he talk about Obama. President Clinton is trying to get his wife in office to pay her back from embrassing her in the Oval office. Find another way Bill the White House will now belong to the PEOPLE!!

The clintons have done nothing for the black community, more blackmen were in prison in clinton years than any other presidency, Hillary as a Senator in N.Y have not spoken out about the sean belle shooting or any black issues, as a matter of fact Obama has been a senator for 11 years much longer than hillary, talk about experience, and when bill was president, she was first lady, that makes her qualified? and the latter part of his presidency she was out of the white house and not talking to bill because of his monica freak on, Monica was only 21 and an intern, tell me about a predator, In the Jena six, Obama replied to the Lizard Michael Baiden in 40 minutes, Hillary 2 days give me a break, but again master stirring up the plantation

PEACE

Bob Johnson wants to now assert that he was speaking about the Senator's "community organizing days"??? Now whose being naive? I know it, the rest of America knows it and he knows EXACTLY what he was referencing..so don't insult our intelligence!
I am a great admirer of former President Bill Clinton. I am bewildered by how we have allowed President Clinton to hold our vote hostage because because his wife is now running for President she gets the black vote by default?? She is a smart, capable person but so is Barack Obama. He is proving to be a formidable candidate and we should not allow that fact that he is black man be a reason for Black America to not vote for him.
The Washington Post article makes a lot of sense. I am somewhat disappointed that he has not had greater support among the "powers that be" within the African American community.
I believe that New Hampshire brought the "fierce urgency of now" to the Clinton campaign and they did what they are capable of....playing rough and tumble politics. Using terminology like "fairy tale" and "false hopes" was deliberate because even though it was said...you can explain it away that that is not what was meant because they have been such great supporters of civil rights..blah,blah, blah. But now what had;admittedly been in the back of our minds is now out there for us to marinate a little! Recognize the political gain...oops...I meant game.

You are still suffering from the slave syndrome.(Be nice to the Black slave and hell do what you say) What made Clinton more qualified cus hes WHITE.? Girl get with the program this is about changing the image the world has of us as a peolpe and if black folks like you keep that slave (we aient ready mentality) we would never be free. I am a member of the electoral board as well as an active member of the Democratic party for more than 20 yrs. It's really disturbing to see what's happening in the Democratic party. They have moved from a win, win situation to the last candidate standing. Win, win all both candidates had to due wast stick to the issues come together on the type of campaign they would run and not be swayed by advisers to get involved with this mess that's happpening now. I sit electoral board meetings and I hear the counter attack strategies from from republicans and they just sit back and wait for Clinton and Obama to destroy each others character and smile as they frunish the Republicans with so much information they need to do nothing to win in the fall but place their name on the ballot because we have destroyed each other. It may be too late to change the damage that's done I hope not but someone with cooler heads should step forward and end this stupidity. Michael said on his Monday's show young people will promote the change. It's a good thought but whomever controls the finances controls the country and it's not the young.

You are everything that you are saying about Mike. If you werent, you sure would not be commenting. Look at how you are talking about Mike. Take the 2 by 4 out of your own eye. Meaning look at yourself and how you are handling the black media. Hell you are attacking your own brotha for what!!!
All of this is a smoke screen to divide and conquor. If people would just shut up or be quite and watch things would be fine. Whatever happened to being wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove.

Its people like yourself that causes division. Why wont you go somewhere and be quite!!! Nothing good has come out of your mouth. No, you are one of many that has made this into a big deal.
absolutly not.
As a 46 year old African American man, I am more disappointed in Bob Johnson than I am in Hillary or Bill. It's one thing to show support for the Clintons, but entirely a different thing to belittle another Black man on national TV, then lie about the intent of his statements. Millionaire or bilionaire or not, he is just another 21st century tom.
As for the Clintons, it is true that they have supported Black isssues. They are banking on our communities remembering that fact. That's why they spit out insulting & racist statements disguised as double entendres. They know that there are still those Black americans who will continue to turn the other cheek instead of implementing the "weight of unity" to come down against any personality that uses divide and conquer techniques to disable our effectiveness.
Make no mistake about it, it's really not a Black versus White issue, as the media would have us think, but you can't eliminate race from the equation. It's about the greedy privileged elite trying to maintain the stranglehold that they have over opportunity. Robert Johnson doesn't represent me or anyone I know. I'm not hating on his wealth, but why aren't there any math or science shows on BET in between the "ho's" & "thugs" blinging?

What is wrong with you? why are you so defensive! You kind of act like a mental case. Chill and and relax!!! Have a drink or something.
YOU ALL SHOULD READ THE ENTIRE THREAD, JUST IN CASE THE "VOTE" COMMENT WAS FOR ME!!!
I said I will vote, but the reality is, there are bigger entities contolling things.
One more thing...
This thread is entitled "Bob Johnson Criticizes Obama".
theThe last two days of Mike's show has been about criticizing someone. Friday Mike criticized Hilliary and Bill and today Bob Johnson, who I say again pimped the black folks, but we let our kids sit and look at BET and make hime the money, so who is the sucker? Anyway, I digress.
Anyway, stop trying to protect him, he can handle it and if obama can't then he isn't ready for that office.
CHECK THE FACTS ON ALL THE CANDIDATE BEFORE YOU VOTE YOUR EMOTIONS. That's the point. iN CASE toney... was speaking to me.!

I am glad that we can discuss this issue as adults ,but we have got to stop looking at the Clintons as saviors of the black community. The truth is the Clintons have shown spinelessness in both their individual political careers.Hey, Bill remember Rwanda and Hil remember that one signature that you didn't provide that allowed Bush to get away literally with crime of the century! Now about Bob is this the best person the Clintons can get for damage control this man truly profited from our pain he may have singlehandedly have wiped out dignity,self-respect and imagination of the black community with his brain paralyzing B.etter you than meE.ntertainmentT.elevision.I say this only because this is the kind of discussion that demands we as a community have got to raise our standards so that these candidates can work earnestly for our respect and not expect it because some false idea of fraternity we think we have with the Clintons or Baracks for that matter!

Reading these posts is really mind-blowing. "Divide and conquer", it seems to be working...
I honestly don't think Bob Johnson opinions hold any weight, with his former ownership of BET or in his support of Hilary. He is rich and wants to remain rich. He and all the other rich black "Industry Whores" will continue to be lapdog for the white man, they are put there to say what the white man wants to say about a black man in public. I'm really blown with all the Clinton comments regarding what they've done for Black people. The Clintons have never done anything for Black people, never. Name one. During Clinton's administration, the 'three strikes rule' was implemented, putting more Black men in jail, strikes against African nations (Rowanda and Sumolia (sp)), the denouncing of Jesse Jackson because Sistah Souljah was part of his rainbow coalition... Everytime a black person says he was 'the first Black president' I want to just scream!!! That is one of the most ignorant comments of all time.
My vote is for Obama, he is the most qualified candidate, period. Hilary has no experience and the only reason people are voting for her is because she was married to a former president. Put her accomplishments and credentials next to Obama's and see who is more qualified, Obama, hands down. The decision should be about the issues that effect our community and this country, he is more quailified, he has our best interest at heart, as a people, as a community. No other candidate does, you can believe that.

thank you for saying what I wanted to say, The Uncle toms will always be there until they get they get their reality check black card one day, aka Michael Jackson, Bill Clinton is calling all his rich Black Plantation workers to remind them how he helped them, Bill Clinton has not help any black issues, we are not better then when he was there for 8 years, where is the benefits, they thought this race would be easy , grab and go, but this man BAM is giving them a run for their money and they can't take it, borther Obama thanks for giving me hope that a young black man like myself can dream and go to college,be educated and one day say I am a candidate despite the odds, you are my hero. We have Lizards aka Michael Baisden,(I do not even love his night show on Tv One and One) Uncle toms and sorrogates, but fight on brother Obama, God Speed, My mom pray for you all the time, remember, all blacks did not make a stand for Martin Luther King.

Well said. I was undecided in the beginning but after seeing the Clintons on their worst behavior in the past couple of weeks, I am definitely voting for Obama in my state's primary. I am so apalled at their tactics that even if Clinton does win the nomination, I will vote Republican or Independent.
I am hoping, praying and wishing that my fellow black Americans do not fall into this trap. I am sick of hearing that Bill Clinton was the "first black president." Where does this come from? Comedians? What makes him black?? Playing the sax, smoking weed and sex in the Oval Office? Even if it were true, what does that have to do with his wife? By electing her, are we hoping to get a third term for Bill? We have a chance to elect our REAL first black president - IF he is right for the job, let's not allow this strategy to steer us away from the opportunity. The Clintons have used thier surrogates in interject race into these elections - has anyone noticed that Obama has not even responded?
Let's cast our votes based on the issues. Watch the debates (not the spin that follows), do your research and cast an informed vote.

I agree with every comment that you've made. I am Delta Sigma Theta - living in St. Louis, Missouri. Many of my sisters are concerned about the comments made by Bob Johnson. I believe both he and Hillary overstepped the boundaries.
Continue to support the Obama campaign. Vote Barak Obama, my brother.

I could not have sumed up these last few days any better than this. Thank you. I must share your sentiments with my family and friends. Hmmm...coded...giving air time,,,Clintons' everywhere...President Clinton really did nothing for us..."Rising Tides Lift A-L-L Boats". They owe us nothing...coded messages, coded messages. I've got to remember all of your thought-provoking comments. Thanks!

I am up late tonight because I am hurt. After listening to a news day when no less than 6 Black "leaders" have come out in defense of statements made denegrating Dr. King and allegations of drug use made against an intelegent, qualified, black candidate I am hurt and disgusted. This was a calulated strategy made by the Clintons. If race is injected into the primary process they know Obama loses. They make controversial statements that they know the white press will not call them on and keep making them until they force Obama to respond. When he does they say he's injecting race into the debate. Whites will feel turned off by the constant discussion of the issue and go back to their normal patterns. But the most brilliant and disgusting part of the strategy - get blacks to keep the issue going by tapping into our natural instinct to destroy each other. Shelia Jackson Lee, Charlie Rangle, Barbara Lee, Bob Johnson, Tavis Smiley, Cynthia Tucker and others should be ashamed. You carried that dirty Clinton water well. All part of the game right? What other group would tear down their own in this manner? I have heard that we hate each other but I wasn't completely convinced until today.
To all these so called "leaders" this race is not about you and what you've been promised or stand to gain from a Clinton presidency. It is about America and what we could have gained. It's about African Americans and the way we would have been represented by this beautiful inteligent couple and the others he would have brought into an administration. It's about the inspiration he could have given our youth. It's about having our issues addressed from the oval office.
It 's sad, so sad that we've come to this. We have cut our collective throat for the personal gain of a few. I am ashamed of these people and will never respect any of them again.
Mission Accomplished Clintons.

A Predator is after children and Monica is no child. She is a grown woman and can think for her self and all she has to do is say no. And as for more black men going to jail, I wish you people would wake up and stop blaming the politicians for your stupidity. Nobody put you in jail but you. No the politicians and not the police. In order for you to be put in jail, you have to break the law. That is the problem with our minorities, we are quick to blame others then to take responsibility for your actions. You are playing into the white man's way. He don't have to do anything to you, you are doing it for them. THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!

Hello. I think what saddens me most is that 'we' black folk can't see the forest for the trees. I have never lowered myself to the view that bill clinton was the 'first black president'. I find this absurd, insulting and down right ignorant.
hillary and bill are calculating and when they saw that they were dealing with a real contender who happened to be black...they decided to play dirty. Just like they've always played. And, if we really want to be real...how about bill's lying, trifling butt...getting a blowjob in the oval office. What will happen if hillary wins (God forbid)? How will she run the country and monitor whether bill's zipper is up or down? If you want to play dirty let's bring that up.
I may not vote for Obama but I hate seeing the clinton's annoited as some great white hope. The were in office and did nothing re the blood shed; genocide in Rwanda...They did nothing...Additionally, we have spent our entire lives voting for white (rich white) men; some with lots of experience and some without...so experience does not make a great leader.
Peace to All....

first money controls the media, Clinton's have a big say so in what's out there. They started this racial thing and its beginning to hurt them, now they want to squash it.
Bob Johnson is just a sad uncle tom. I wasn't feeling him he asked Beyonce to give him a lap dance during his last day at BET ( in front of her parents and millions of viewers). Good thing I'm not Beyonce's father, I would've got up on stage and kicked his ass. Now he's attacking a brother for a white woman. This man is a total sell out!!!

Hello. Your perspective was right on time. Thanks!! It is less about race and more about the elite (hill and bill) maintaining control at any cost.

Do not give up on us. Knowing what is happening is the first step to doing what is right. The Mission is not over yet. Pray more of us see the light.

Like we are going to watch them. Not a bad idea though.

All i know MB is imploding on himself I've never heard anyone interview any former or acting Pres like he was some street punk and if you listen to it thats what it sounded like you can hate a Pres or a former Pres but you still give respect to the man and if not that the office that he held or holds. HE IS/WAS THE LEARDER OF THE FREE WORLD not some street punk listener who can't compose his thoughts because he;s on a radio he owes Bill a "My Bad i got caught up and full of myself i'm sorry BIG TIME" after todays show i think i'm done listening for a while
I believe President Clinton is a man like any of us. I also believe there was no disrespect given to the former President. He addressed his title everytime he spoke to him, and for the type of show, "THE BAD BOY OF RADIO". That is what the show is about, right?

Have you lost your mind... Color is the ONLY thing that kept you a slave fool!!!We built this country with out being able to read. Try to figure out how your grandma made dinner without a microwave to re heat something. We have been trying to prove to white people that it is not about COLOR. Iowa stood up and said WE ARE SICK OF THE LIES let us put a QUALIFIED man in office. That man is OBAMA! How can whites be ready and not you. You are still suffering from the slave syndrome.(Be nice to the Black slave and hell do what you say) What made Clinton more qualified cus hes WHITE.? Girl get with the program this is about changing the image the world has of us as a people and if black folks like you keep that slave (we ain't ready mentality) we would never be free. Thank God we do not have many more like you. You are the reason it took so long to be free I could hear you now "no massa we aient ready to be free cus we colored we aient ready.".Get a life read a book may I suggest VERNON CAN READ by Vernon Jordan President Clinton's attyand friend. Then say a prayer for all the Dead Black children just because they were BLACK. I will pray for you and your lost soul......Are you saying we need another Harriet Tubman?

People of america need to get rid of this false hope that 1 man sitting in the white house can change their life and make them a better person. Look the president is not going to make you sucessful in your life,, thats totally up to you... In other words if you made 25000 dollars last year, it doesn't matter if Obama or Clinton gets elected because until you do something to make a change in your life guess what?? Your going to make the same thing next year when someone else is in office until you decide to make changes in your life.
The president cant bring jobs and manufacturers back to the Unites States so please stop falling for their ploys to make you believe this foolishness just to get your vote. If a company decides to close shop and move over seas then they have every right to do so, No politician can stop that, not even the president. So if you want to make something of your life and if you have big dreams your going to have to get out and go after those dreams of yours and stop waiting around on some president or congress to give it to you because it's not going to happen. So please my family I stress to you to stop sitting and waiting for a politician to drop that dream in your lap because it's just not going to happen. Change in your life starts with you not the President because he's already accomplished but the question is ARE YOU??

This is just my personal opinion but...I don't think the government will support a female or black candidate, regardless of which one the people vote in. With racism, as well as sexism, still going strong in this country....We would be setting them up for failure. After the government is done with the smoke and mirrors routine, the nation would be screaming for an impeachment. If the government can create evidence of weapons of mass destruction to start a war, complete with satellite images and intel from "creditable" sources, it would be easy to make some believe that they shouldn't be there. Maybe I'm just trippin' on my conspiracy theory ish again. Feedback welcomed.
NOW THIS IS THE TRUTH!!!!!
If you all think Obama is above criticism, why should he be? There is no reason to cut him any slack. and guess what? I am not cutting Hilliary or any of the other candidates any either.
The above statement is so true and you all don't even realize it. this thing is bigger than either Hillairy or Obama.
This country is run by the corrupt and the multi rich. They are not concerned with this little "chats". They are not concerned Mike B and his "little show" that is listened to by the majority of blacks, who don't even take the time to take care of themselves properly and take the time to argue on a message board. YOU ALL ARE NUTS!!!!
the young who vote won't matter. VOTE. Picket. Do what you must. Just remember, the election was taken by George Bush the first time. You think there isn't anything they won't do to get their people in office. IT HAPPENED THEN AND CAN HAPPEN AGAIN!!!! WAKE UP!!!
The simple point is, Obama is not going to bring liberation to any of us, even if he gets in. It took 400 years to get us out of slavery and we stil have people enslaving us - HELL WE ARE ENCLAVING OURSELVES WITH OUR ACTIONS!!! it will take another 1000 years to straighten the mess out.
vote for Obama, so what, just stop making it like he is some savior because he happens to be black. He is not!!

Did anyone else find it interesting that the "Thread" regarding Bill Clinton's appearance on the show was taken down after one day. You actually have to go into the "search" mode to find it.
Perhaps that is because the majority of the posts were highly critical of Mike Baisden?
This thread is still up. I wonder why?
It just confirms what I said before.
1) Friday, Mike B. started off very critical of Hillary and started dialogue that he didn't expect to be critical of him (after Bill came on)
2) Mike B lied and said that he started the show on Friday "defending Hilliary" (which is a lie)
3) Mike B. started the show on Monday saying "WE ARE MAKING TOO MUCH OF THIS". Can you believe that? WHY AREN'T YOU ALL DIRECTING SOME OF YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS TO MIKE B. AS HE IS SAYING YOU ALL ARE OUT OF LINE WITH YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT HILLIARY AND WHAT SHE SAID
4) Mike B is no better than the "spin doctors" on FOX news, because he doesn't let caller through that have a different opinion them him. And he took the "tread down" where the listeners criticized him regarding him "tone with Bill Clinton.
PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE. Don't you all see. You really aren't even following what is being said by Mike B. who is the man you are allowing to persuade you.
He is talking out of both side of his mouth. Which is exactly what politicians do. I wouldn't be surprised if he runs in the future for some office.
If you all really disect what has been said, there is alot of evidence that cries "foul", from everyone.
Have you all listened to any of the debates? Have you listend ONLY TO THE DEMS and not the Reps? Have you not cared one way or another until Mike B. said something.
YOU CAN'T TAKE WHAT MIKE B. HAS TO SAY AS THE ONLY INFORMATION. Research.
AND YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED. I can guarantee that 98% of the people on this "thread" voted for Bill Clinton, if you voted at all. I am certain you had more prosporus times during his administration and NOW YOU TALK LIKE DOG ABOUT HIM. That is how we Black people are: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY MENTALITY.
They are laugh at us, because we refuse to research. We would rather me pawns for someone. whether it be Obama or Clinton, if you don't do the research. If you don't check the facts. If you vote on emotion, you are being the ignorant NEGRO, that THEY think we are!!!!
Ignorance is dealing in emotion, without checking facts and listening to the opinions of others, based on a trust factor that does not exist.
YOU ALL TRUST MIKE B. He is a radio host. An author. What makes him upright enough to throw out his opinion and you be fool enough to take it.
SIMPLE!

Here is my viewpoint,
I think it is wonderful to see and know that a Black can run for President, regardless if he wins or if he does not win. Hey, if he becomes Vice-President, that just as good! This is a vision I am sure Dr. King would love to be here to see. America have bigger issues that Congress and House of Representatives need to deal with equally, i.e., provide each state with enough funding for education and healthcare. We need to make sure we go out and vote for the right representatives that make/approve our laws. I am a registered voter, whether it counts or not, it was a struggle to get that law passed for Blacks! lets not forget, that our great grandparents, did not have that option, some did not even know how to read or write, and they march and petition to get it passed. We need to remember that we are setting examples for the younger generation, I want to see more African Americans in the US Senate/House of Representatives, more black mayors. As far as I am concern, Bob Johnson can say whatever he wants! that is a man with true vision, right on!, right on!, Mr. Johnson. I actually had the same vision, that blacks should have a television network, when I was 18....that was 30 years ago, and no money!

Yes, I used the N-word on purpose. Because that's what Bob Johnson is. I don't care if he's a billionaire. The man responsible for BET will always be an N-word in my book. BET didn't just become what it is today when Viacom bought it. Do you not remember Cita's world? Uncut?
But I digress he's offended that Obama's camp called out Billary on a few comments they made that some black leaders found offensive. For the record their comments were not in the least offensive. But they are being targetted on every little thing. Uncle Tom Johnson came rushing to defend the Clinton's who he's been a large supporter of, stating that while they were helping blacks in Arkansas Obama was in the hood doing what he talks about in his book. Johnson claims he wasn't talking about Obama's drug use. Whateva, n-word. Yes you were, just be a man and acknowledge it.
This is my issue with this jerk, how the hell are you going to state what the Clintons did for blacks and what Obama didn't do when you've made billions on negative black stereotypes that have aided in the destruction of our community? He might as well be the Grand Dragon. Who is he, that took what the civil rights movement gave all of us and made it a joke, to disparage another person, especially another black man on what he has or has not done for blacks? I'm a bit heated. Whatever Obama's faults may be at least he didn't aid in making Supahead a celebrity.
Whatever your race or gender you are entitled to support whomever. All blacks don't have to support Obama any more than all women need to support Hillary. But as black people we need not throw each other under the bus. Bill Clinton was on the TJMS this morning and homeboy was hot. He's getting a little tired of people harping on his wife over nonsense. I don't blame him any (real) man would defend their wife, especially given his past, he damn well better. He talked about his fairytale comment, which I heard and yes it was misconstrued. He talked about Bob Johnson and said that Johnson reponded to the media concerning his comments and Clinton didn't have anything to say about it because, (in my words not clintons) Bob is a grown man and our campaign cannot control what he says. What Clinton did do that I don't agree with was portray Obama's campaign as underhanded, sneaky and dishonest. Even if it is. Let's keep our eyes on the prize here, Democrat in the White House, the elephants don't need any extra ammo.
Maybe I'm in the minority here but I believe both Obama and Hillary have strong messages which are nearly identical. Both have enough strength and carisma to defend themselves against unwarranted attacks. They don't need their lackeys coming to help. Hillary, Bill and the rest of the Clinton campaign can fight the good fight without n-word Johnson. Obama can keep doing what's working for him without every black preacher, leader and blogger finding imaginary racism. This race just keeps getting better and better. Damn the writers strike, this is better than Heroes.

I am so disgusted with rich black folks right now...
Bob Johnson and BET is a coon, shuck and jive ministral show that we poor black folk do not need to support ever again!
Majic Johnson has a lot of nerve. Didn't he contract aids by having a lot of adultreous sex and putting his wife and future children at risk would be reason enough to render my mouth shut when it comes to making any type of opinion about anybody! Majic Johnson is definately a stigma!
Al Sharpton is just another mouthpiece trying to make a dollar bill...who cares what he thinks! His opinions are not original and he blew it in Jena, so did Michael Baisden! And they wonder why black folk don't want to come up off some money!!!! I went down to Jena....cops were laughing at us....why? because all the folks at "Grown Folks Radio" knew that child wasn't getting out of jail, but they still let us black folk waste our time and our money for a ill planned cause...
I am just so insulted and hurt that we have so many rich and influential blacks that refuse to look back and help a brotha or sistah out! Our black nation has a chance to unify and it seems like that is slipping away and we black folk will be slaves again...
Slavery is still on the legal books in Maryland, all the powers that be know that they just need to keep at least ONE state around...

Please help me understand why these black leaders are in love with Bill Clinton. The Clinton Administration policies has hurt more African Americans than Bush’s policies. It was Bill Clinton who created the 3 strikes law and the welfare reform. It was Bill Clinton who didn’t do anything to improve the Education or Health Care System. It was Bill Clinton Administration who didn’t do anything for the people in Darfar. Could someone tell me what Bill Clinton has done to lift up African Americans?

I'm sorry you feel that way MB was wrong BAD BOY RADIO or not. Even the most hardcore Republican radio host or even TV like those on FOXNEWS would have given ANY Pres more TACT maybe you should listen to the interview again and make more money for MB website with click through. You ask me he's only selling how bad a interviewer he is at his own expense why I say he's imploding on himself. Take off your fanboy hat and REALLY LISTEN to how a former leader of the free world gets treated. Bob Johnson and all the other black americans who are not supporting Obama for president need to have a reality check.
Will we ever get all blacks united on the same cause?
We have an opportunity to put the 1st Black President in office. We have to give Obama a chance to prove himself, just like we did for Clinton. Would it hurt if Obama united the country and there was no division?
It appears the Clinton's are trying to divide and conquer the black community by making these remarks that are causing controversy. Don't let them put the wool over our eyes. We need Obama in office.
No one president will be able to do all the changes they are promising overnight, so don't expect Obama to make changes overnight. As you know there is a process, the congress (Republicans & Democrat) has to vote on any changes being made.

Bob Johnson remark was an absolute disgrace. Considering the history of this country, it is a shame that black folks still can't work together. Even if you didn't agree with what he said Bob Johnson it don't give you the right to try to chop Obama's foot off because he hurt Master Clinton feeling. What did the Clinton's do for Black folks? Under every administration throughout the history of the country black folks have been at the bottom of the food chain. Black folks will always be at the bottom unless they learn to work together. What did the Clinton Administration do for Black folks? Under the ruling families the last 20 years, (Bush 12years) (Clinton 8years), Black folks are at the bottom. You have a Billionaire Black Man still with the mindset of protecting the Master. Wake up Black folks know one is going to truly help you until you learn to love and help yourself.

Thank you for making that excellent point. Someone should ask Mr. Johnson what he thinks of Mr. Clinton's admitted drug use and rampant infidelity. Do they really want to insert the morality issue into this given the tawdriness of Billary's Life To Live?
I'm disheartened by the actions of the Old Black Guard. One wonders if they might be a bit jealous of Mr. Obama. The "shucking and jiving" of their own people as they vy for house boy is a poor example for our youth.

Thank you for making that reply, I am 19 and voting Obama, I see these grown black fools thinking with their plantation mentality, The old civil rights leaders and men of 40 to 50 FAILED US misearably, failed to pass on the Baton, they want to drop dead on the stage, and we must swim how we can in proverty and drugs, I have no Black heroes, until I saw Barack Obama, Hope, Thank God for HOPE, These old fools like Charles Rengell, Bob Johnson, Andrew Young, Michael Baisden failed to Lead the Way for us, all of them want to die in office, get all the money, get out the Hood and tell everyone KISS MY A@@@@, and then expect the world to be better, we young people have help ourselves we do not even know how? because we are single parent families, no male influence, then when we run into trouble here they come or here we go and the whites make it difficult for us in the system that is not easy to solve,As Steve Harvey said we have failed young men misearably. instead of continuing the movement of Martin Luther King the old fools relax in integration and left us behind. Clinton made his jab of Obama with a hateful disposition, remember this man is a profess Liard, he said oh that not what I meant, Hillary made her jab on the backwards comment, oh thats not what she meant, now Obama made one comment about hillary what she said about Lyndon Johnson and MLK(the witch, cry baby and according the Don Imus, Satan, yes Don Imus called hillary Satan) and all the Uncle toms and the surrogates are jumping down his throat, when Obama has done nothing but be peaceful and speak of unity, I even heard Glen Beck quoting Obama Unity Lines on his CNN Talk show I was so proud of Glen Beck Iwill watch his show from now on, but as the bible said about Jesus, he came unto his own and his own recive him not.
PEACE
PLEASE, OBAMA IS TALKING ABOUT UNITY, WHAT ARE TALKING ABOUT, CAN YOU PREDICT SOMETHING YOU CAN'T SEE, IN CLINTON ERA MORE BLACK MEN WERE IN PRISON THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENCY, BUSH IS NOT MURDER, BUSH IS SUICIDE, EDUCATE YOUR MIND, JUMP OUT OF THE CRAB BARRELL YOU WILL SEE BETTER, YOU SEE DESTRUCTION, I SEE LIKE MARTIN LUTHER KING HOPE, DREAMS AND UNITY, HARD TO GET, BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO VISION AND WHERE THERE IS NO VISIIN THE PEOPLE PERISH.

interviews today were fantastic. But I should hope that young man is talking about himself only because I don't hate myself nor do my children hate themselves when they look in the mirror. I was raised not to be jealous, hateful or spiteful against anyone so I learned at a very, very young age not to have such feelings. I should hope from this day forward black people with a voice in any arena would stop putting us all in one basket when it comes to feelings and such. pastors seem to do as such.
For example I visited a church on New Years Eve and this poor pastor had to be speaking for himself, he said; "you say Jesus is coming back but really don't believe it." Honey, I sure do know, believe and walk my daily life as such and I blurted out right in front of about 2,000 people "you must be talking about yourself ‘cause I know he's coming."
I can speak for myself and don't need anyone else speaking for me so stop doing as such for ALL people hear you saying these things about Blacks and they really seem to take what you all say to heart. My grandmother is 79 as of yesterday and she is so very appalled by this generation; they way you speak, the way you feel, the presence you carry. It is really very pitiful....you think you are so really very "smart" and "educated" and you really hinder us all with your discussions cause you just don't know how to speak.
NOTE: Remember the white man created the textbooks you have spent $$thousands$$ to learn from. Just keep that in mind......

Now what? We can keep ranting and raving about how we were disrespected, how we were once again used as pawns in the Clinton machine, or you can do something!
First and foremost, get involved, join barackobama.com and be a part of the campaign. Sitting on the sidelines, or planning to vote is not enough! When will we finally wake up and decide to change the system that we bemoan instead of talking about it. This is your chance, I know that we have all been inspired by Obama, but inspiration without perspiration is nothing. It says in the bible that words without work is dead.
And moreover, contribute, money is the oil that makes the engine run in politics. Contribute $20, $10, or even $5 to the Obama campaign, he is running against the Clinton machine, this is just the beginning of what they will be throwing at him. We spend $20 on any given night going out to a club, movie, cocktails, for the cost of one night you can change the way we view politics and the hero's our children look up to forever. And that is not being overly dramatic, I long for the day when I can point to a black man who is the president of the United States as his/her hero instead of a black man who is the captain of a corner or a rapper who is the peddler of suicidal rhymes. NOW THIS IS THE MIKE B. I Learned to Love,
All races. Not choosing a side because of color, or gender, but character. Not portraying one good and one bad.
I pray everyone can understand this concept and just say this because it is nice to say on MLK's birthday. Race should not matter, one way or another. We should focus on what a person has or has not done. Level playing field.
Now Mike B, I hope you don't go back to throwing stones after this show about unifying, not blaming the WHITE MAN for our shortcomings, etc. Not saying that everything that a "white man or white woman" says is insulting. not taking everything that is said personally and having such thin skin.
GREAT SHOW, very positive and encouraging!!!!!
ps - i LOVE IYALA. And denzel was great. (Mike's tone was so soft and respectful - I LIKE THAT. Now make that universal and we will have made progress).
Iyala made several great points, it does not matter about color. There is NO oppressor, etc.
Interesting! I hope we can really catch it and I hope Mike B. can stay on one side or the other after today.

Man, you had better preach the truth. Talk is cheap. which has been my point in serveral responses. People talk about Clinton, but voted for him. Talk about what a white man/woman did or didn't do for us. What have we done for ourselves. We have to stand up for folks to stop riding our backs.
We must stop talking and start working. Make our money work for us, live our lives with some diginity and purpose, so we have better futures for the children and for once, stop pretending this young people are the problem, IT IS THE ADULTS not doing as IYALA said "taking our rightful places.

While I do not believe Clinton's comments diminished or were an attempt to diminish the contributions of MLK I do take issue with her and Robert Johnson (now BOB). First, regardless of what is publicly stated that "Bob" made his statement on his own. I am certain that there was some discussion with the Clinton campaign and/or Hillary herself on what was going to be expressed. Even as a small business owner, I discuss with people who represent me, how, what, when etc. they are to represent me and/or my company. I DO NOT believe for a second that no one knew what he was going to say. She is running for the highest office in the nation: I don’t see the Clinton campaign leaving anything to chance--especially the black vote--which bring me to my issue with "Bob" Johnson. Point 1. His momma named you Robert: His name is Robert-not BOB! Point 2. How dare he allow someone to use him, or rather his skin, to undermine someone attempting to be a better person regardless of it being Obama. His actions have now made him an analogy—Ward Connerly is to Affirmative Action as Bob Johnson is to progress. Then he insults EVERYONE by backtracking on his statement that he was not referring to Obama’s drug use (He aint a squeaky clean brother and neither are the Clintons). Now, who is the greatest offender/insulter? Well, I stop know. Clinton’s job is done. Use trick number #1: Find a black person to speak out negatively about another black person on their behalf and then distance themselves in the media. Allow his/her own people to take him/her to task for the comments made while we reap the benefits of the buffoon. Wow, you are smarter than that and I’m amazed that you did not see that coming—or maybe you did!

If I live to be 100 yrs old I will never understand the mentality of black people we have a chance to put a qualified black man in office as the President of the United States something our parents and our parents parents couldn't even concieved. but yet we have these blacks out here with this slave mentality who would rather think that someone white can do it better. For once in our lives we have a chance to do what we been dreaming of putting a voice in the must highest office in this country and we are willing to throw it away on a pipe dream that since Bill Clinton was such a good President so will Hillary!!! news for you people he wasn't that good, just average I mean if you look back on it compared to Ronald Regan and George Bush Sr. theirs no comparison. If we listened to Mike B. Michelle she should not be speaking on hehalf of her husband. That is what Mike B. said to Bill Clinton. He told Bill to let Hillary speak for herself and stay out of it.
I don't agree with Mike B. I think a spouse has the right an obligation to help him/her in any way possible.
What are you comments on Mike's view?

The question is not abut giving a black qualified man a chance. The question is, IS HE THE BEST CANDIDATE? That is the question.
If you think he is, so be it. But if not, then we should not vote for him. You have to research and check the record. Not enough b/c he is black.
THAT IS THE POINT!!

06151988, stop blaming everyone for what you don't have or what you can't get. If you are a single family or without a male influence, you need to look at your parents for blame, not Mike Baisden, Congressman Rangel, Bob Johnson or Ambassador Andrew Young. I promise you, they raised their kids, I'm so sorry if you were left out. You mentioned that you are 19 years old, that's great. If you are not in school, go get an education... It seems you are just getting into politics, and that is great also. Is it because a person of color is running for President? Well, it should not be... that is the problem with black folks now. We seem to blame every and everything and we don't exercise our right to vote. I've been seeing many quotes of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. My point is that we should be involved in politics all the time. Know your candidates, vote for the person that can help your cause, whether they are a person of color or if they are white, whether they are male or female, just exercise your right. We are all on this forum defending Obama and Hillary, but they are not the only candidates with bright ideas for change for this great country. Do we truly know who will do the best job for America? Well, do we. I don't think so, we will just have to wait and see whoever wins, if they will fulfill their promises to the American people. Vote for the candidate that can help you, not just this time, but all the time. If you want to quote Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., then that's okay. Remember, voting is the most powerful tool as individuals we have. Another thing, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and the most beautiful thing about your vote and my vote... we can actually vote for whoever we want. GO VOTE FOR CHANGE! PEACE!

Thanks You!!! That is the most intelligent comment posted throughtout this entire charade! And still not one person can say what the Clinton's has done for Black People, name one thing.... silence. I wonder why. Give me a break.
OBAMA IN 08'!!! Vote YOUR interests, because no other candidate even comes close to addressing or resolving OUR interests/issues even in thought! Remember, Obama is Black and so is WIFE! and black women don't play....LOL!!! but no, for real....

What I resent the most is that the media has the notion that the black folks down here are slow and can't think for ourselves. Which is why Hillary brought the "polished, rich black" man down here to speak out and tell us who we should be voting for. What's sad is that the majority of blacks will listen to him...and they don't even know who he is or what he is really about. Bill Clinton has spent the majority of his time down here in black Churches before the primaries began campaigning for Hillary. I will be very surprised if Obama wins here.
What's truly sad is that people all over the world will be laughing at us (black people) for years to come. Here is our one chance, finally…a valid chance to put a decent black man in the White House and we refuse to do so. If he were Hispanic, you couldn’t stop his people from moving fast enough to register and vote to get one of their own in office.
The news pundits have it all wrong. Blacks won't vote for Obama simply for one reason: because he is black. They don't seem to understand or realize the hatred and jealousy that we have for each other as shown by Tavis Smiley, Bob Johnson and others. Anderson Cooper should investigate and report on that. I can see the headlines now: “Black America isn't ready for a Black President” or “Obama loses the black vote.”
Hell…he never really had it anyway, now did he???

I've heard every single reporter and commentator in the nation (including you, Michael) begin every comment or remark about the campaign with, "I'm not voting for Obama because he's black, I'm voting for him because ...". What the hell is wrong with standing up and saying, "HELL YEAH, I'm voting for him simply because he's black!". I understand that people want to think they're voting for the best candidate regardless of race, that's fine, but Obama IS already the best candidate. He's articulate, intelligent, seems honest enough, and although I don't sail on that side of the ship, he's damn good-looking too. He's a damn black John Kennedy is what is! So yes, I understand the need to say I'm voting for Obama because he's qualified, but I'm ready to stand up and say this country needs a little color. I'm not afraid to say I'm voting for him because he's black. Dammit, it's time. And I'm not even black, I'm Mexican. Which brings me to my second point. Michael, outside of the obvious, what can I do to help deliver the Latin vote in California for Obama? Lead the way, we're here. Because of work I'm only able to listen to your show for one hour from noon to one, West Coast time. I believe it's your first hour. Tell me what I can do, I'll be listening.

You are right! I hope Oprah stays strong...the Clinton camp is trying to silence her! Sending agents to flood her webpage. This Clinton machine need to be stop! They had their chance is the W-house. Go back to home

As I listened to the morning talk shows with both the front running Democratic candidates invoking the name of Dr. King, I began to wonder "what would Martin say" about all this.
Well as a culturally conscious historian and one who feels spiritually connected to the cultural identity of our time, I am encouraged at this vibe.
What do I mean by this "vibe?"
This "vibe" is the rhythm of things that vibrate throughout our cultural community.
Throughout our tribe.
It flows throughout the Diaspora.
It has flowed since the beginning of time.
A different frequency, a different pitch at different times but the same vibe.
It's the same vibe that Martin talked about when he said, "I am a "Drum Major" for peace."
The same vibe that vibrated from his lips from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in his "I have a Dream" speech.
And the same vibe his legacy vibrates today.
Now these two candidates are striking different notes but the same vibe.
I believe this is what Dr. King was talking about.
When we as a people can compete on an even playing fields for the same position. So here we have a white woman and a black man strumming the same cultural strings of change.
Change that transcends race, gender, age, and economics.
So we have arrived at the moment of truth.
A testing of the very principles that Martin spoke about. Do these principles withstand the test of time or are they lost in the greed of mankind.
Will time tell the stories of a time of triumph with these sacred principles intact.
Or will time speak of a time when these very principles we have upheld for a generation be no more.
Hummm???
"What would Martin say?"

On my way into work today (kinda annoyed behind that) I was able to hear the "Mountain Top" speech that Martin Luther King, Jr. gave the day before he was murdered. This like many things lately it made me think. The dream of Dr. King is here. At least in my life it is. My skin color has never been an impediment to anything I've ever tried to do. The most racism I've ever encountered was being followed around in a store in Boston (eff the Pats, Go Giants!) which I still haven't forgotten. No beatings, no lynchings, not even being called a nigger. I have to attribute my life now and all the opportunities I've been given to everyone who fought for equality in the Civil Rights movement, the Christians, the Muslims, the Jews, the whites, native americans, latinos, everyone and I for one greatly appreciate it because if we as a people had to fight now, good lord, I don't even want to think about it.
I say the promised land is here because life will never be perfect for anyone. There will always be a few ignorant folks that will try to stop you from living your life because they are miserable human beings. They come in all races. I can honestly say that as much as I acknowledge race it doesn't affect my daily life. For a long time I was the only black person at my job and I wasn't once treated like "the black girl" I was always treated like Sharise, the Admissions Coordinator. Even my daughter who is totally color blind gets treated like the best friend not the black friend. I think it's wonderful.
Life for black people now is the greatest it's been since before the first wave of colonialism that started the race based slave trade. I feel that the government has given us all it needs to, equality. When black people are treated like full and equal citizens what more do we need? Because lets face it, even white men get wrongly convicted and attacked in this country. The fight isn't over because we have to make sure we're always treated equally and any attempts at injustice should be swiftly addressed and punished.
Thinking about the message of Dr. King it bothers me that it's been distorted by the black leaders and "liberal" politicians that followed him. Bare bones the message was that we need to lift ourselves up and demand equal treatment, because as Americans we deserve the same opportunities as every other citizen regardless of skin color. Who doesn't agree with that? This is why he was a Republican, before the parties got all convoluted and mucked up. No special treatment, just give us the opportunity and it's up to us to take advantage of it. Looking at the blacks of this country a great many of us have taken the opportunities and ran with them. It takes work to do well, there is no such thing as a lazy success.
Dr. King also preached tirelessly on the the need to get education wherever it may be. He preached that we as black people should love one another and help each other. What happened? Bob Johnson, that's who. I'm not going to blame the current state of black america on one man. I'm going to blame us. I'm blaming myself, my friends, my family, my people.
As Dr. King said, you have to stand up straight to get ahead, a man can only ride you if you're bent over. Right now we're on our knees. The few of us that are living the dream are so far removed from the "others" that we don't even look like the same race of people. When I say removed I mean idealogically. You can be siblings, cousins, best friends with an ignorant, lazy, brainwashed negro. Those of us who want change, face the daunting task of reversing the mentality of many of our people. How to compete against what the country tells you, you're supposed to be? It was easy to rail against the sambo, large featured watermelon eating pickaninny. We knew for the most part that wasn't us. We often shunned those who made it worse for the rest of us. You know the ones who act like natural koons at a job, so everyone thinks we're really like that, so why hire them? That thought process is wrong, but at the same time don't support the stereotype.
Every black person is a representative of their race because we're a minority. During or before the Civil Rights movement black people from the affluent to the very poor carried themselves with pride. Because we are a proud people, and rightly so. We may have random issues with complexion, materialism and "selling out" but as a whole there is much to love.
This brings me to the real sell outs of our race. They are often seen as blacks in corporate america, black republicans, blacks who marry outside of their race, intellectual blacks. But these are the ones who refuse to have backward societal rules brainwash them. Black people who often "act white" are chastised relentlessly by their own people. Black people who defy convention are seen as anti-black. Even now the loudest voices proclaiming Obama can't win are coming from people that look like him. If it wasn't for Martin Luther King and others in the movement refusing to just sit back and be what society told them to be, where would all of us really be? I'm sorry Mrs. Clinton but if we waited for the government to enact civil rights legislation without severe pressure from society my grandchildren would still be awaiting the promised land. It took a war to stop slavery, not the 13th Amendment. Slavery could have been abolished easily in 1860 or before but it took a complete upheaval in society to bring about drastic change.
People have to want change. Change doesn't come easily or swiftly. Change is thrown around so haphazardly in this current election. What does it really mean? If a woman or a black man is elected president what will they really change other than a footnote in the history books? I want change in the black community, desperately. Change in my community will drastically improve the rest of the country. No one other than the unabashedly bigoted want to see black people murder each other. This, like all other drastic changes in society has to start with the people it effects directly. As Dr. King knew, you can't wait for someone to help you, you have to start in your own community. You have to fight and be willing to give your life for the future.
The message has been pushed so far to the back of peoples minds it's almost forgotten. We learn about the Civil Rights movement and Dr. King in school, but the one's who it needs to touch have been so brainwashed that the message means nothing. Peace in our communities, love for oneself, equality for all Americans. It's so simple a child could understand it. Thinking beyond yourself, your life, what you are "supposed" to be, opening your mind has nothing to do with the quality of our schools. The strength is gone. Weakness and laziness has replaced the determined, hardworking soul of the black person. We're in a daze right now. When we finally wake up, all of us will be able to see the promised land. But will we put in the hardwork to reach it?
