Student Gets Arm Broken by School Security Guards

Parents and students at Knight High School in Palmdale, California are upset over an incident in which three teenagers and a mother were arrested last Thursday after a melee with security guards, prompting an investigation into the guards' behavior.

The incident came on the heels of a birthday celebration during the school's lunch hour, at some point the birthday cake was dropped, spurring a domino effect of mayhem.

A cell phone video taken by a student showed a 16-year-old student arrested by campus police.

According to the student, she had dropped the cake and subsequently cleaned it up.

When the security guard told her to clean up a part of the mess that was overlooked, a verbal altercation ensued -- and quickly turned physical.

The security guard then grabbed her by the arm as she was headed towards her next class, the student said.

The student said that the security guard was so overzealous in twisting her arms despite her pleas otherwise that he wound up breaking her wrist -- which is cast-bound.

The security guard called her a "nappy-head," the student said.

The student said that when the security guard realized the incident was being recorded, he tackled the student taking the video.

When that student's sister tried to intervene, she too was injured and now has a brace on her arm.

And the plot thickens.

When the arrested student's mother arrived at the school, she was subsequently arrested for allegedly battering the principal.

The mother has subsequently said that the incident has caused a disruption in her life, mainly as a result of explaining the issue of prejudice to her daughter.

Another parent, Serena Ochoa, said that she has complained about the guards before.

The student is currently expelled and will attend a hearing to determine her future status with the school.

That was defintly a use of excessive force. I am a former guard in the school system and I was routinly cursed at and out by students, and subjected to the students obscene behavior. I' ve been around schools all of my life, my mother is a retired teacher and many family members teaching or working in some other capacity in education. There are many good syudents but even those have days not so good. What went on before this student was grabbed by the guard. I had on occasion grabbed students in self-defense. I've been pushed from behind, challeged face to face etc. I am a fomer active duty Marine and have seen many things but the behavor by students today is truly embarrasing.

Student wounds four, kills self, at Ohio school

By Kim Palmer
CLEVELAND (Reuters) - A 14-year-old student shot and wounded two adults and two students at a high school near downtown Cleveland before killing himself, authorities said on Wednesday.

The reason for the rampage remained unclear but Eugene Sanders, chief executive officer of the Cleveland public schools, said the boy was not supposed to be in the building Wednesday and local media reports said he had been suspended.

Police Chief Michael McGrath said the initial investigation indicated that the boy killed himself before police arrived and that he had at least two guns. Asked at a news conference whether he could say the shootings were random, he said he could not.

The wounded were two men aged 42 and 57, both of whom were in stable condition, Mayor Frank Jackson said. He said two male students ages 17 and 14 suffered minor gunshot wounds and that a 14-year-old girl, also a student, injured her knee trying to flee the chaos.

The shootings took place in the early afternoon at SuccessTech Academy, a 250-student specialized school that concentrates on math and technology.

Sanders said he was canceling classes at all Cleveland public schools on Thursday so that parents, students and faculty could "take a breather" and "put this in perspective."

Student Latisha Hill told one television station students began taking cover when the emergency command was announced and she locked herself in a bathroom until police knocked on the door and let her out.

"All I know is I heard the principal yell 'code blue,'" Hill said.

The incident was the latest in a string of shootings in recent years in schools that have shaken the United States. A student at Virginia Tech college killed 32 students and staff in April, then himself, in the worst shooting rampage in modern U.S. history.

What has happened to all of the training that these guards go through? I am tired of all the excused that is been used to cover these guys asses. What is a 300lb guard doing if he can't control a 150lb yhow young lady? Yes these guys have a loy of stress, but don't use two bad situation to dictate how you treat the rest of the student.

Security guards in the schools, hospitals, casinos, airports, stadiums anywhere you see a rent-A-Cop you risk danger...more than from armed law enforcement officers. They are all obessed with the idea of protecting the public...it's the "ILLUSION of SECURITY"...and so is the general public.

I have been well trained and I am currrently a California State Peace Officer, the students show No/little respect to us and just as little to uniformed deputies. It amazes, it used to anyway how a kid could be disrespect around or to another adult. I grew up in Chicago in the 70's early 80's. If I thought about actingt up someone knew my mother or a neighbor and before I got home I was in for it. These days it is not anywhere near that. The kids will cuss me the parent and the deputies. What are the officials to do.

Do you think it is less danger from a trained person ie: LAPD, LASD.

The LAPD was trained prior to King, May Day in the park... The question should also be why did the situation escalate to the breaking of the wrist. Which is way tooooo much force. But again why did it go there?
