It's not about the top 5 business' that will not fail, it's about what do you have a passion to do! Failing means that you have to dust yourself off and get back at it again! Failure SHOULD help you learn what not to or try a different way, you can't learn without a little failure(mistakes)
I would love to start my own business and get information thats very vital at keeping my business running and active. I know how to do so much from cooking, taxes, consultation, writer, and much more. I'm going back to school in January to get my degree and I want to get a game plan in place before I complete school so that I will not waste time trying to get a plan together after the fact. I want to make positive decisions, to make positive moves, so that my children can have a positive role model. I want to show my children that they can do whatever they want, just equipt yourself with information and knowlegde and go for it. Well, I guess I can give myself that same advise!

Hello,
You could call some of the local group homes in Charlotte and Concord. There is an agency called Youth Homes. Look them up in the phone book. You may also want to call DSS to get state requirements for doing this. You will have to do your research like going to the library to access what the local and state requirements are for doing this kind of business. There are enough kids out here for you to do what you want.
Take care!

My name is Jeff Palmer, a local photographer. I am interested in partnering with you on some of your upcoming events. I am a local Photographer serving the Charlotte / Rock Hill area, and I am looking to expand.
I create portraits of people and I print the images on-site. I look for people/companies seeking fundraising opportunities, formals, reunions, proms, pageants, fashion shows, and banquets etc. I can print a 5 x 7 photograph in less than a minute, and deliver it ON-SITE in a lovely photoframe. These photo's provide a nice keepsake from your event. I'm looking to get tapped in to these types of affairs as they come to the Charlotte area.
By associating with my company, you add extra value to yours. By providing a lasting memory of the event, your customers or clients will seek your services again. You will definitely seperate yourself from the "ordinary" business services that are out here.
If I can be of further service, Please don't hesistate to contact me.
Thanks,
Jeff Palmer

Karamel kiss,
Hello this is Michael,CEO of Downtyme Management, a Christian management company in the Entertainment industry. I will leave you my information for you to review. You recently posted a question and I figured I would lend you a hand in obtaining your answer. What is your passion? Find that first, then research your field to find out competition, pros and cons. Also find others in the field you work and pick there brains. Contact your county in where you live and get your name registered. Get legal and an accountant. My wife has started our health and beauty division of Downtyme Management, my Christian company. I also do consultations for startups so if you have any more questions feel free to contact me. The last part of this answer is Be very cautious of who you bring into your business and operation. If you would like to schedule a consultation (and that can be done with a conference call if you wish) feel free to contact me and that can be done with a conference call if you wish. What state are you in by the way? Good luck in your endeavors.

Hey, Mike, everything is everything!
Listen, man, not many people in here are starting a new TV network, but we are!
It's called Indie Dish. It will be a forum for independent artists of all types, whether it's music, (ANY format, but must be CLEAN.) films, or television. Also, screenwriters, producers, directors, animators, etc. to showcase their various talents and increase their exposure. This would be an ideal outlet for any of your unsigned "B Side" artists. If they don't have videos, we can produce them for them! We're taking the concept of an MTV, BET, VH1, HBO, etc, and bringing it to the local level, and it is all black owned and operated.
We're also giving small local advertisers a chance to be on TV that may have been out of their reach in the past, while simultaneously reaching an audience that they may not have been able to access before.
We'll be debuting in the Atlanta area, on Comcast channel 150 in early October (set for this Saturday, October 13, 8pm) where we will be available to approximately 500,000 Comcast subscribers in the metro Atlanta area, with plans to expand to every major market in the country, and eventually offering a package of several original channels.
Check us out on the web, at www.indiedish.com
Send me an IM here, or:
Email us at info@indiedish.com
Or call us in Atlanta, at 770-679-5139.

Our company manages children, teens, plus-size and adult models. Our company does not promote, market nor endorse adult industry (themes including pornography). Our mission statement: to scout talent, guide them in the development of their skills and market their abilities. We train what I consider the industry standards that include voice projection, interview techniques, building a confident model/talent and model etiquette.
Downtyme is a midsize company built on five years of industry along with my 20 years of industry experience. Our credits include: major motion pictures like: DERAILED, “STRANGER THAN FICTION, FRED CLAUS, BATMANS RORY’S FIRST KISS and independent films like LEGIT and LOSS. Our commercial agency has done International print jobs and recently a national converse shoe commercial featuring Dwayne Wade. Some of our clients have been the (former) WB Network, International Academy of Design & Technology (Schaumburg, Illinois), Bay Star China (www.baystarchina.com), AK TV & FILM PRODUCTIONS, MTV, EWE (Prague), Classic Pictures Production, Designer Tonie Charles, Home Décor Inc. (LA), Film Director Jim Boenski and Kitchen Productions. Our home market is Chicago but with many talents from all over country and internationally we also are working regionally, nationally including Asia and Europe.
Our founder & CEO, Michael Thomas, has been in the industry since 1983. He got started by attending John Casablanca School of Modeling. His mother a former model and pageant contestant in the mid 80’s fueled his desire to get involved in the entertainment industry. Michael took part in multiple pilots, which never made it to TV. He was involved in many television projects like: a print ad for Bergner’s Stores, a CBS affiliate commercial “Coats for Kids Campaign” background for artist Tracey Spencer at a benefit for Jesse Jackson Operation Push and has appeared in numerous fashion shows as a child from Chicago to Rockford, Illinois. After completing John Casablanca in his junior year of high school he entered into performing arts. He was cast as a dancer a high school musical called “GREASE”, where he was a featured dancer. Michael was then scouted by a Forest Hills Dance Company (Loves Park, Illinois) and took jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop and clogging. He was accepted to tour with one of the premier dance competitions in the 80's called Tremaine and Dance Olympus.
In 1990, I took time off from academics to compete across the country. I danced live in Chicago, Detroit, across the Midwest, New Years Eve in New York City (TIMES SQUARE), and during Mardi gras on Bourbon Street. He has performed in front of thousands and took instructions from top choreographers of that era like Marcia Lane (choreographer for Natalie Cole Pink Cadillac & Madonna’s videos) and Barry Lathers (who has appeared in the Michael Jackson Smooth Criminal video and Dr Pepper commercial ads). He has networked and collaborated with some of the most talents agents and companies in the industry like Marie Anderson Boyd (formerly of Aria Models, Michael Lyons; Lyons Group, NYC, Jive Records, Mel Jackson, Ernie Banks and the late Walter Payton). His mentors taught him the industry basics and the major opportunities to learn what the entertainment was about has helped Michael to understand the business side of the industry. His many experiences formulated the company he birthed after his little girl was born and introduced into modeling in the 90’s.
As a prospective talent that is looking to be part of Downtyme Management, Michael looks forward to working with you and assisting you in reaching your career goals in the industry.

I want to know how to start a business. The first step, how to buy merchandise. I just need to know the first start. how to write the business plan.
little rock, ar
I have been in business for myself for a little over a year and found the website www.entrepreneur.com very helpful. I have a Janitorial Service Company here in Charlotte, NC and refer to this website quite often. On this website I found free business plan templates, getting incorporated, as well as information on how market and advertise my business and a lot more.... A lot of helpful information to get you started.
To everyone out there who is thinking about starting a business. Don't think about it ....Like Nike said "Just Do It!" I was in corporate real estate for over 10 years!!! Constantly trying to climb the the corporate ladder...always stressed. Then one day I don't know what came over me...I took a leap of faith and started my business (no money in the bank). Yes, I panicked here and there, but I began to pray and put my destiny in God's hands. My first cleaning account was $400 per month...a year later my gross revenue is
$10K per month and still growing. If I would have said I will start my business when I get out of debt, save some money etc. etc. I would have never stepped out on faith. It will never happen...because life is always gonna happen. You will work hard, harder than ever before, but you won't mind because you are building your own corporation...So, I tell you again. Just do it!
God Bless You!
Thanks

I am currently in school for medical billing and coding (about 27% finished). When I finish I want to start a Billing business. Not because it's my passion but because that is where I think I can make a good living. I don't know how to begin finding what I am passionate about, life and the need for money now always seems to get in the way. :( Any advice?

Coco, many people say you should begin a business based on your passion. I had the same problem problem when I started. I wanted to own my own business and did not know what I was passionate about because I had so many interests. So, I realized that I was passionate about being the CEO of my own company. So I began researching businesses which had very little start up cost, recession resistant (pretty much), and lucrative. That is what lead me to the commercial cleaning business. Many people ask me, "what kind of business are you in?". I tell them many times that "I am in the relationship building business!"
To everyone out there who is thinking about starting a business. Don't think about it ....Like Nike said "Just Do It!" I was in corporate real estate for over 10 years!!! It will never happen...because life is always gonna happen. You will work hard, harder than ever before, but you won't mind because you are building your own corporation...So, I tell you again. I am a coporate slave as well and I am hating it so much, when Sunday evening comes I literally get sick because I know Monday I have to be clocked in and at my desk working on the chain gang. :(
I've read so many diffrent articles about starting a business, but I never seem to get any REAL concrete leads. All I see is all these how to get wealthly DVDS and Books and they all seem to say the same thing and after spending $50 and up for some DVD I still didnt get what I was looking and in the meanwhile the person I spent my money on to get the DVD is getting richer.
I know you have to (as they say) spend money to make it, BUT is it not another way? I hear stories of people that say I started my business with $500 , how???? Can anyone help:confused:

It is great to know that so many people want to start a business. However, starting a business is very difficult. I agree with Michael Baisden and Cheryl Broussard statement to start small.
A major failure in many businesses is that people start a business based on how much money they will make or the success of a particular industry. If one thinks about money first, they will most likely make wrong decisions because their focus is on money and not the customers, products or services.
Spend time at the library to research your industry. There are trade magazines for many industries. The magazines provide useful information and resources that could get one started in their business.
I’m trying to enter a tough industry that is under scrutiny, the toy industry. But I’m not going to give up unless I become homeless. I advise many not to give up.
I will create a list of resources and post it.
Much love to all

In order to be successful in your business, you will need to take the time and do the research. You can have the best idea or greatest product but, without having a thoroughly devised plan and knowing what to expect, you're setting yourself up for failure. There are so many obstacles out there that you'll have to deal with, why not remove a few initially? If you're serious about starting a business you will take the time to learn as much as you can about what you need to do to be successful.
Here are a few websites that I've found useful that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere on this thread:
Business Owner's Toolkit (http://www.toolkit.com) - Access to tools, forms and downloads to help you start and run your business
Minority Business Development Agency (http://www.mbda.gov) - Federal agency created for minorities in business. Tips on starting a business, business plans, financing, etc.
Small Bussiness Administration (http://www.sba.gov) - Federal agency created to help small businesses start, plan and manage their business. There's also a link to your state sba office.
SCORE (http://score.org)"Counselors for America's Small Business" - free and confidential business advice for entrepreneurs; business tools, resources, counselors available to answer business related questions.
Hope this helps. I will post more as I come across the information.

I own an italian ice/ice cream parlor in College Park, GA. I have not received the community support that I had hoped for. I am trying my best to keep the store open because the customers who do come in love the product and are always commenting on how nice the store is. The problem with small businesses is not necessarily starting the business, but keeping the business going. Below is information to help people get started in learning how to start a business and write a business plan. Don’t open a business because you have money or there is an available store front in your neighborhood. Start small and gradually grow your business because it is a tough journey.

I have always wanted to start my own business but that usually takes money which I do not have. I am working as a Accounts Receivable/Payable Specialist which I am happy doing but I want to do it for myself. While I am making all the money for the big guys I do not seem to be making any money for myself. How can I start an at home business with little or no money at all? Is there someone who can help me with this?
