I thought you'd like to know how the wonderful business owners in Jena are responding to the protest. Please read the article posted on a major television station in Monroe, LA (KNOE) website. The link is titled: Jena Prepares for Large Protest March. {http://www.knoe.com/} They also have a web poll to the right entitled: Should Mychal Bell be released from prison immediately? I am shaking because I am so upset that so many people feel that he SHOULD NOT be released immediately. Notice how I said UPSET and not SURPRISED. I am from Monroe, LA and I've had more than my share of racial experiences! Sad to see that nothing has changed in 30 years!

Hi Family!

I am a mother and educator in Prince George's County Maryland.

In an effort to be unified are you able to use your voice to suggest that supporters also wear PURPLE (or any colored) ribbons as we work together to promote unity?

This idea is especially helpful to parents of students who wear mandotory school uniforms and/or those who want to continue to show our support past 09/20/07.

Alot of people in Baton Rouge, LA have no clue of what is going on in Jena, LA because we have very little coverage. Of course, within the past three days we see a quick shot of the large amount of people that will crowd Jena, but before Sunday, close to nothing. I am a school teacher and I have decided along with another teacher to make this out of one of my lessons in my ELA class. My students don't know what is going on and I am going to do everthing I can to encourage them to use their mind, body and soul to stand up for justice in this state.

Thank God for this radio station!

I think that its great that you are taking time to educate you students on what is going on. I hope more teachers read this and get on the ban wagon. Its sad to say but you might be the only education on matter such as these that your children might get. I don't have a gold star to give you so here is a gold thumbs up and a gold smile:)

It seems to me that the people in Jena think that we are coming down there to tear the place up and that is not the case at all this will be a peaceful protest.

AMEN!!!! I think that it is disgraceful that the Capital City, which by the way has a Black Mayor!, is not more active and on the front lines of this battle.....There have been small rallies here and there around town, mostly at or around Southern University, but nothing even remotely notable....

It's a damn shame!!!!

Hey Mike, call me!!! I'm a new member. I usually don't join these online forums or chats but this situation has made lots of us do thangs we haven't done before!!!!

Thanks Mike,
GOD BLESS YOU.....

PEOPLE'S ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS (POP)
WILL HAVE DEMONSTRATION IN SUPPORT OF JENA SIX

The People's Organization For Progress (POP) will have a demonstration in support of the Jena Six on Thursday, September 20, 2007, 12:00 noon at the corner of Broad and Market Streets in downtown Newark, New Jersey.

The Jena Six case involves six black teenagers who have been the victims of an unjust and racially biased prosecution related to the beating of a white high school classmate in Jena, Louisiana. They originally faced a number of trumped up charges including attempted murder.

However, as a result of legal challenges and pressure from civil rights groups and other organizations some of the charges were thrown out, others overturned on appeal and several of the remaining charges have been reduced. A national demonstration in support of the six will take place in Jena on Thursday.

"POP is planning to send representatives to the demonstration in Jena. However, we are having this demonstration in Newark on Thursday so that those who cannot go to Louisiana can show their support for the Jena Six," POP chairman Lawrence Hamm said.

"At the demonstration we are going to demand that all charges against the Jena Six be dropped and that the prosecutor in the case be fired," Hamm said.

For more information on the demonstration call (973) 801-0001.

Brother, I would say that now your self proclaim name fits you like a glove. You are doing it like none other. I want to thank you and the so many others that will come together this Thursday and unite for something that is truly needed. Many people hold forums and other events. But the agendas in most cases are for self interest. Nothing against them, but sometimes we need to come together for more than the checks at the end of the day.

So to the baddest man on radio we all love you brother and keep on stepping.

The bail hearing was yesterday. The defense attorny showed up but the Da and judge didn't show. The DA's office was called and his clerk said that he had NO bail hearing on his calendar. He and the judge must have gone fishing.

I am upset that the people in Henry county do not know the details of the Jena6 especially when the Henry county PD is investigating a dummy hung over I75 with KKK on it. What is it going to take to get our people informed. Everyone knows henry county is one of the most racist counties in Georgia but it is as if they are afraid to rock the boat. I have not heard any church in this area speak out on it either. I do not have a child in the Georgia school system but I have delt with and marched for this same racism in south carolina. Any one who not only have a child but knows a child should be outraged, anyone who have a son should be outraged, and anyone who have a daughter, sister, niece or mother should be outrageed. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I thank God for all of you who have been the fore runners in this movement. I will not be able to go to jena but I will be repersenting for my Son and daughter and trying to bring awareness to Henry county. Much Much Love.

Black Out for Justice

On Thursday, September 20, 2007 Michael Baisden, the NAACP, schools, celebrities, organizations and many people from various communities will make the journey to Jena, Louisiana to march against the injustice that befell six African American young men better known as the Jena 6.
We have been asked as a country to wear all black on September 20th in support of the cause. However, I think that we can take it a step further and Black Out for Justice! This means that on September 20th we should not support any business for the day. We make preparations every year for various holidays because most businesses are closed. Therefore, I believe we could take one day and not support any business.
Please understand that while this individual case may be a black and white issue as many still are to date, we the people should also make it a human issue because at some point injustice happens to all of us no matter what our race or nationalities are. We need to stand together as a nation to stop the hate from growing. Also, please be aware that this is not the only case where there is a blatant miscarriage of justice going on in the United States of America, but we have to start somewhere.

This is wonderful that people of different races can come together for a cause. I can not make the trip but, I will be wearing my black on Sept 20. Also, I have handed out black ribbons for people who can not wear black that day. Finally enough is enough. I thank Michael Basiden for his passion. He took this journey from start to finish. Hopefully now eyes will be opened to see what is really going on in America everyday. Only people like Michael Baisden bring it to the light.

I feel your pain. I am from Vicksburg, MS. I was at home this past weekend and it is sad that so many of our people aren't concerned. I had to realize that it is so common place that our people think it's no big deal. I took my daughters, ages 12 and 9, to breakfast Saturday morning 9/15/07. On the way, we were talking about the Jena 6 situation and the racial injustices we face as African Americans. My 9 year old was telling me about an incident in her class where a white female student made the comment that she didn't like black people. An African American student threw a pencil at the white student. The African American student was disciplined for throwing the pencil, but the white student was not disciplined for making the comment. We made it to the restaurant and while waiting to be seated, I noticed that the white hostess looked at us, turned her head and walked away. I told my daughters this was exactly what we were just talking about. I talk to management about what happened. Needless we didn't eat there.

Hi Family,

why not create a trust fund for the defense of the Jena 6 young men? once all supporters are in place, contribute one dollar frorm each individual on september 20th? this type of contribution could possibly be used towards thier college education as well. I feel that there will be reliable trustee or organization to handle a fiscal matter like this. many of us give a dollar in church on sundays. God would be pleased with this offering i'm sure!

You mentioned today that you are in awe of the togetherness of people standing up for justice. Now you are coming close to knowing how those of us that were active in ensuring civil rights in the 60's felt. We were in awe. We lived our passion for equality. The movement that has started now is so similar to the infamous "March on Washington" that I am happy those younger generations will experience that feeling of "truly making a difference." Good luck...and cogratulations!

The latest news on the "dummies" that hung that dummy from the I75 bridge here in Henry County, GA (just 15 south of Atlanta)....

Three white teenagers were arrested and CHARGED! They stole the dummy from the Henry County Fire Dept, painted it BLACK and hung it with KKK across it! The idiots didn't realize that there were cameras at the fire station ...and...if anyone knows about all the Atlanta Freeways, they have traffic cameras pointed EVERYWHERE!

I watch MSNBC on a regular basis and they have Isaah Thomas every 20 minutes, they have the guy from the UofFlorida with his "free speech" problem every 20 minutes, and forget OJ every 5 minutes. I have been emailing MSNBC and CNN and Fox - asking "what about the JENA 6" everyone - please email these news channels!!

Congratulations! Way to Go NY. For most of my life I lived in New York (Southeast Queens...Jamaica), and was active in the the churches in and around Bklyn, Qns, Manhattan, and Long Island. Was called to Southeastern PA in 2001, and have been really upset with the lack of interest and involvement shown by the clergy in this area (Coatesville, Exton, Downingtown, W. Chester, Reading, etc.) At times such as this, I miss NY. Love you guys, pray much for you and congratulate you for standing up. I will be wearing black on Thursday...May God bless and keep you strong.

Hey Family:

I just found this out on AP News about the business owners closing down their businesses.

a downtown cafe blocks from the site of a planned rally, said she's going to "lock up, go home and stay out of the way." She is thinking of boarding up the large plate-glass windows at Cafe Martin.

Kirby Jones will shut down South Side Service, a gas and service station on the route of the march route to the LaSalle Parish Courthouse. "We won't get traffic through here or get any business -- [B]all it would be is people coming in to use the bathroom," he said.

The link is www.wwltv.com

This is crazy.

Dear Michael,

My name is Tesha, I'm 12 years of age and I have been shocked to hear about the, "Jena six case". Yes I'm a young black citizen and I have had many of those hards days also, of being called nigger, or teased about the way I look or dress. I'm pretty sure that many parents have experienced the same thing when they grew up also, which I have a question about. My beautiful black people where has all the love went? I see many people walking the streets with their pants down to their ankles and shirts around their necks. If this is the way you want people to remember us by then do that on your own time and stop making the rest of us look bad. We have fought hard enough and come far enough to try and change the fact that we want to be here. But if all ya'll keep dressing, and acting the way you do then whats the point? Why did Dr Martin Luther King Jr. waist his breath for us? Michael I wanted to be there at the march but sadly I can't. So now I'm gonna do my part in the community and share this information with the students at my school. On September 20,2007 we the people will reunite again. I would like to thank you for sharing this with everyone, even though you didnt have to.

Sincerley,
Tesha

MARCH IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE JENA 6
DC-area Residents Lead Rally to Help Heal Racial Tensions Nationwide

Washington, D.C. — (September 18, 2007) – Roughly 500 people will unite at the U.S. Capitol to declare with one voice that unequal justice is not acceptable in the United States. A Call-to-Action (ACT-A), a non-profit social advocacy group based in the Washington, D.C. area, will assemble at the U.S. Capitol (Upper Senate Park) on Thursday, September 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to express their support of six African American teens from Jena, LA, convicted of felonies after months of escalating racial tensions. Thousands more will converge in Jena on September 20 to attend a rally led by radio personality Michael Baisden. Rev. Al Sharpton will speak at that event.

"The rally at the Capitol is a solidarity rally for those who can't make the trip to Jena. We refuse to sit idly and do nothing," says Angelique Louis, organizer of A Call-to-Action, a group of 20 local residents. "There is no place for injustice in the 21 st century."

The rally is in support of six African-American student athletes nicknamed the Jena 6 – Robert Bailey, Carwin Jones, Mychal Bell, Theodore Shaw, Jesse Beard, and Bryant Ray Purvis – who are accused of attacking Justin Barker, a white student, after protesting the hanging of four nooses from a tree at their high school courtyard in Jena, LA. The three white students responsible for hanging nooses in a tree in the school courtyard were punished with a few days of in-school suspension. The noose incident was dismissed by school officials and local law enforcement as a childish prank.

"People across the country, black and white, conservative and liberal, should stand together against inequity and racism," Louis says. "This rally is not about black and white, but about what is wrong and what is right. It's time history stop repeating itself."

For more information on the march in Washington, D.C. visit www.acallto-action.com.

Hello Tesha,

I am so glad to see a 12 year old with such mathurity, I love the words used to describe your fellow young people about the way they wear their clothes. It discusses me alot to see our people disgrace our race with some of the things they do, but I am glad that some young people are disgusted by it too. Hope a lot more young people think like you. Encourage your friends to wear their clothes in the proper manner , be respectful to their elders, teachers & parents. Study hard, keep up your grades, and be successful in all you do.
This way we could be a force to recon with, keep up the good work.
BE ENCOURAGE. BE OUTSPOKEN, BE AN EXAMPLE TO OTHERS.

Well, let me tell you about these news stations--Miguel Almaguer, Reporter NBC4 in Washington, DC 20016 told me that he received serveral messages regarding the issue and one is more than sufficent. What is that about? People really don't appreciate us coming together as one but that's ok--it isn't for everyone to understand or appreciate.

Anyone who can not make it to Jena, LA please come to the Washington, DC Rally on the U.S. Capitol (Upper Senate Park) on Thursday, September 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m hosted by A Call-to-Action. For more information log onto http://www.acallto-action.com/.

 Tonight was enough is enough!! Al Sharpton was on Hannity and Combs tonight when Rev. Sharpton asked Hannity would he denounce the jailing of the Jena 6!! To me he showed his true colors!! He danced around the questions, acted like he could not hear, he acted like Rev. Sharpton was talking about the young lady that was almost murdered in West Virginia!! He would not answer the question at all!! This would be a good show for the Michael Basden to be on!!! He was a true Brooks Brothers!!

I am a member of the media whose station has not done enough to cover the Jena 6. The excuse is that it did not take place in our viewing area ( but that doesn't stop us from airing O.J.'s problems and Anna Nicole Smith's baby daddy drama). So, since I cannot change their minds, though I won't stop trying, I will be wearing Black on Thursday.

Yes a noose painted black hung by a noose and marked KKK. The carash dummy was said to be stolen from firehouse. Just on the nightly news. The crash dummy was hanging from a interstate bridge. To all the soilders going to Jena, be careful. Bring your own food. Don't buy anything. U may need to fuel up in another town. Who knows what may happen.

Chanting, "Until the six are free, neither are we," and carrying handwritten signs, hundreds of students from Morehouse and Spelman colleges and Clark Atlanta University marched Tuesday from campus to Centennial Olympic Park in support of six high school students charged with beating a white classmate in a tiny Louisiana town.

"We see injustice and it is our duty to raise media awareness," said Morehouse sophomore Koreé Hood, one of the rally's organizers. "Everyone should be outraged."

The "Jena 6" case has spurred months of racial unrest in Jena and has grabbed headlines around the world, becoming a symbol for civil rights and community leaders who say it exemplifies systematic mistreatment of African-Americans in the justice system.

Thousands of college students, church members and civic groups — including many from Atlanta — are expected to descend on the central Louisiana town Thursday to protest the way prosecutors have handled the case.

On Thursday, more than 100 college students from the Atlanta University Center plan to board buses to Jena to take part in a rally there in support of the black students.

The saga began in December, when six black teens were initially charged with attempted murder for assaulting a white classmate at Jena High School. The white student who was knocked unconscious was hospitalized, but he attended a party the same evening. The local district attorney, Lee Walters, argued the six attacked the boy with a deadly weapon — their shoes.

Charges against the black students were later reduced.

The Louisiana appeals court on Friday overturned the aggravated battery conviction of one of the six — Mychal Bell — who was set to be sentenced Thursday and faced up to 20 years in jail.

Civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton, have been planning a rally in support of the teens that day. "Although there will not be a court hearing, we still intend to have a major rally for the Jena 6 and now hopefully Mychal Bell will join us," Sharpton said.

The December beating came after months of simmering racial tensions in Jena.

White students at the high school hung nooses on a tree after a black student and his cousin stood under the tree. The school board briefly suspended the students who hung the nooses, but many black families felt the punishment was not severe enough. Police were called to the school because of subsequent fights between black and white students.

Prosecutor Donald Washington, U.S. attorney in the western district of Louisiana, said the fight was motivated by "male bravado" rather than race. Publicity was in itself divisive, he said.

"Certain people [in Jena] are very concerned about the way the town was being viewed in the eyes of the world. We received comments from blacks and whites indicating that they wished that outsiders should not play such a large role,'' he said.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference plans to establish a temporary conflict resolution center in Jena. Spokeswoman Keisha Ray said the Atlanta SCLC presence in Jena will focus on nonviolent protest training.

Morehouse student Reginald McKinley said the case particularly resonates among young people.

"As a generation, we have an obligation to be aware of what's going on," he said.

The Atlanta City Council weighed in on the issue this week, voting unanimously Monday for a resolution in support of the high school students.

Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong, who sponsored the resolution, said it will give moral support to those traveling to Jena for the rally. The resolution states: "This frightening example of racism calls to mind an earlier time in the United States in which segregation and the 'lynching' of African Americans was common practice."

The resolution concludes with the council "expressing its dissatisfaction ... with the unfair and one-sided practices that are being meted upon the African-American community in Jena, La., through the use of all-white juries, excessive sentencing and the heavy-handed tactics being displayed by the chief prosecutor of the city."

Anastasia Semien, 19, a Clark Atlanta student from Shreveport, La., said she didn't mind missing class for an important cause.

"In the 21st century, atrocities like this just shouldn't happen," she said.

My name is Ron White. I am 16 years old in Nashville, TN. I was gonna go to Jena on the bus that 92Q was sponsoring but there was no more seats. So instead, I will be wearing my black at school. I've told alot of my fellow students to wear black to show your support for the Jena 6. And I always get the same question. "Who is the Jena 6?" I think that it is quite a shame that our young blacks don't know about what I like to call the Civil Rights movement for my generation. As I'm typing this I am listening to Malcolm X's speech "The Crisis of Racism." Quite powerful. But if anybody knows of any marches going on in Nashville or another bus going to Jena from Nashville, please contact me.

I am new to the boards....but wanted to let all involved know that the Winthrop University chapter of the NAACP as well as those who are unable to make it to Jena on tomorrow from Rock Hill, SC will be wearing our black in support of this cause. Michael, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the attention you have brought to this issue. We all need to stand up for this young man. It could be OUR son, brother, cousin or nephew...if it can happen in Jena, it can happen anywhere. Peace, and GOD bless.

In my city of cleveland Fox 8 has this segment call fox unplugged and this is what it said about the Jena 6. I am so proug of our city.

Nearly 40,000 people are expected to leave their homes today en route to a small town in Central Louisiana. They are going to support a group now known as the "Jena 6" -- six black teenagers from the town of Jena who were at the center of a series of racially charged incidents last year, including one where nooses were hung from a tree at the high school. There was several fights between white and black students at the school, and it all ended with the arrest of the Jena 6.

The teenagers were charged with attempted murder for beating up a white student -- a student who was treated and released from the hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening.

The first of the Jena 6 to be tried was convicted, and he faced 15 years in prison. Last week, however, an appeals court overturned that conviction. The prosecutor will appeal.

Charges for three others have been reduced to aggravated battery.

Those supporting the Jena 6 in the rally tomorrow not only want to help out the children, but to help bring attention to how the Jena 6 have been treated.

Let us know what you think about this case. We want to hear from you!

Here is something for the reader that some one sent to me.

Cleary Gottlieb has a bad hair day

Talk about a Glamour don't.

Vivia Chen/The American Lawyer
August 27, 2007

It seemed like a nice frothy summer treat for some hardworking gals at a hard-driving law firm. Instead of hosting another earnest discussion about client cultivation and leadership, the women lawyers group at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton invited an editor from Glamour magazine. The topic: the dos and don'ts of corporate fashion.

First slide up: an African-American woman sporting an Afro. A real no-no, announced the Glamour editor to the 40 or so lawyers in the room. As for dreadlocks: How truly dreadful! The style maven said it was "shocking" that some people still think it "appropriate" to wear those hairstyles at the office. "No offense," she sniffed, but those "political" hairstyles really have to go.

By the time the lights flicked back on, some Cleary lawyers -- particularly the 10 or so African-American women in attendance -- were in a state of disbelief. "It was like she was saying you shouldn't go out with your natural hair, and if you do, you're making a political statement," says one African-American associate. "It showed a general cluelessness about black women and their hair."

The episode also produced a "mixed reaction" along racial lines, says this associate. "Some [whites] didn't understand what the big deal was ... but all the black associates saw the controversy."

Cleary Gottlieb's managing partner, Mark Walker, who heard about the incident from some of the attendees, also saw trouble. Soon after the event, Walker issued an e-mail that denounced the hair commentary as "racially insensitive, inappropriate, and wrong." Calling the beauty advice "appalling," Walker says, "You don't tell people that their physical appearance is unacceptable, when certain characteristics are associated with a racial group." He asks, "What's the alternative? Straighten or bleach your hair?"

As for the identity of the editor, neither Cleary Gottlieb nor Condé Nast Publications Inc. (publisher of Glamour) would say. Indeed, almost all of the half-dozen Glamour editors contacted for this story professed not to have ever set foot in a law firm. "Cleary what?" asked several.

And Walker says he has no idea whether the editor who sparked all this controversy is a well-known fashionista. Not that Walker would know, even if Anna Wintour herself crossed his path. "Who is she?" Walker asks. "I really don't know people in the fashion industry." (If you have to ask, she's the editor of Vogue.)

So did the Glamour editor realize how many feathers she ruffled? Walker says that the speaker was "spoken to by one of the women partners" and that she sent an e-mail apology. "I assume she was oblivious; I doubt she's racist," says Walker. "She wasn't thinking and said something hare-brained."

Or is that hair-brained?

Alot of people in Baton Rouge, LA have no clue of what is going on in Jena, LA because we have very little coverage. Of course, within the past three days we see a quick shot of the large amount of people that will crowd Jena, but before Sunday, close to nothing. I am a school teacher and I have decided along with another teacher to make this out of one of my lessons in my ELA class. My students don't know what is going on and I am going to do everthing I can to encourage them to use their mind, body and soul to stand up for justice in this state.

Thank God for this radio station!
C. Flowers

Catina - AMEN! It amazes me that people right here in B.R. are not going because of really stupid reasons! (Too many people, it's dangerous, I'll just wear black.) That's why our state is in this predicament in the first place! NO ONE wants to stand up and be heard. It takes other people from around the country to stand up for our children in this state. People in Louisiana: STOP BEING AFRAID AND STAND UP FOR JUSTICE! This is not the 50's or 60's. We will not be lynched or dragged for speaking out as was done in the past.

I am so incredibly proud to call out two pastors in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area. So many pastors never step up, but these two did. I am twenty-four years old and know nothing about staging a rally, but I knew that something needed to be done in my area. I made a phone call to Pastor Ernest Jackson, Jr. and not only did he support me, but he made a phone call to Pastor John Reed and together these to men of God rose to the occasion and got a rally together. I can not explain the emotions that well up in my soul when I think about how powerful they made my voice. I want the Jena six boys to have the same feelings of love, acceptance, and self-worth. So everyone in Oklahoma come out to the rally at the capitol on Thursday at 11am.

Much Love to the TRUE pastors!

I live in PG County too and worked with the students of WMCS in Takoma Park, MD to bring awareness of this case to the 3rd grade students (b/c I do volunteer work with my son's class). I put out some messages to different folks because the kids made protest posters and jena6indc organizers got in touch with me and the posters are now going to be at the march. It's last minute but if I could get ribbons for the class (they wear uniforms) so they can in some way feel they are participating in this monumental day that would be great. Are you charging for the ribbons? I can meet up with you to pick them up. If they are free I'll take enough for the students of the school. If they are not, let me know how much and I'll see how many my husband and I can afford.

Thank you for this!

not only should we call but send e-mails and or letters to our senators, congressmen/congresswomen, The House and every official we have ever voted for. in our time of War, fighting for freedom in another country we still have such a racial hatred in our own and this just goes to prove if you let it alone it will fester and grow into something we have fought against for many years. have all the people that have died , died in vane. this is not just a Black but a racial thing against the humanity of man.
who or what group will be next.
and to all those who stand before you to sing their songs or parade their clothes or pronounce on their tv shows, WHERE DO THEY STAND!

I am very proud of the fact that we are finally coming together for a common cause. This is a scene from a 1930's to 1950's movie. Not 2007 reality. This is a disgrace that we still have to be subjected to this kind of blatent racism. But that being said - let's get equally angry about what our youth are doing to themselves. Let's get angry about the self-genecide of black males, the disporportional number of black males in jail - for life. Most of our youth actually think that only white people get married or get high paying jobs. They seem to think education is a joke because they don't plan to live past 25 anyway and no one is afraid of going to jail anymore since most of their fathers, uncles, cousins and neighbors are already there. We need to be as angry and as mobilized and as united on this issue as we are about the Jena 6. Maybe if our youth had more self-respect, less self-hate and a sense of hope for their future, maybe if we can show them a united front as adults that we care more about them then we do about the allmighty dollar, maybe, just maybe we can change the mentalty of racism in this country. An educated black man is the white man's worst nightmare and worst fear. Let's keep him afraid.

Good for you. I feel that it is very important to share this with our young people. Thank you for your comments about your class. I am a university professor in Memphis, TN. I too will discuss this matter in my class when we meet on Friday.

I am NOT CHARGING for the ribbons what I have done is bought NAVY BLUE AND BLACK ribbon and pinned it on. I am working on making this a National Ribbon of awareness and solidarity for all of the injustice please e-mail me @ Sensualblkwmn247@aol.com.
as far as the ribbon if you can get ribbon from fabric store now to start that would be great this would be a wonderful way to get the message out that we are not going to forget ... please let me know if you would like to meet still

Steps of BROOKLYN
BOROUGH HALL
209 Joralemon Street • Downtown Brooklyn
(2,3,4,5,A,C,F,M,R trains to Borough Hall)

No More Jim Crow Justice!
In Jena, Louisiana, white students hung nooses in a tree at the public high school, to warn black students not to sit under the “white tree.” The school dismissed this hate crime as a harmless prank. When black students protested, the local District Attorney threatened to take their life away with a “stroke of my pen.” After a schoolyard fight broke out between black and white students, the District Attorney responded by charging six black students with attempted murder. This does not just happen in Jena, Louisiana. Youth of color are treated this way all over America. Help us build a justice system that truly serves all our children.

The organizers of the rally, Assemblyman Karim Camara, Ms. Donna Nassor of Friends of Justice, and NYC Council Member Al Vann, will speak and have invited a number of other leaders to participate, including NYC Council Member Charles Barron; Rev. Herbert Daughtry of House of the Lord Church; Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood of St. Paul Community Baptist Church; Hazel Dukes, President, NAACP New York State Conference; and activist/writer Kevin Powell.
There will be commentary, healing prayers, artists, and words of solidarity from various leaders and activists.

Info about various ways to support the Jena 6 will also be available.

Thanks Michael for spearheading this powerful moment. As a mother of a child who was racially profiled and assaulted by the Chief of Police in a small town in Tennessee last year, I feel compelled to make the journey to Jena; with my son by my side. The incident has left my 25 year old son feeling deflated and violated.

Two days ago, I decided that I would drive down to be a part of this historical event. My son needs to experience the positive energy, power, and message the people of color will exude. We are leaving Tennessee tonight. I told my son that we may not find a place to SLEEP September 20th but we will surely find a place to STAND for justice.

Does anyone know if there are any rallies planned anywhere in the DFW metroplex? I am a single mom of 3 bi-racial boys and feel compelled to do SOMETHING. I am unable to go to Jena due to finances, but I know I'm not the only one in Dallas that wants to go but can't...
I too have found that when I try to bring this issue up with friends-they know nothing about it. Most of them have children and are complacent about the issue. This infuriates me-as parents, no matter what color we are-we have a responsibility to advocate for our children! I did see on CNN about 5 minutes of coverage for Jena 6-not enough by far, but better than nothing.

For those that are traveling, you will be in my prayers and all 4 of us will be wearing black tomorrow-including the baby...:)

I just read this and it warms my heart. I am so excited that all people of all races are coming together for an injustice against humans, not just blacks.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - David Bowie has donated $10,000 to a legal defense fund for six black teens charged in an alleged attack on a white classmate in the tiny central Louisiana town of Jena.
The British rocker's donation to the Jena Six Legal Defense Fund was announced by the NAACP as thousands of protesters were expected to march through Jena tomorrow in defense of Mychal Bell and five other teens. The group has become known as the Jena Six.

GLAMOUR DON'T FOR REAL,

SHE OR HE SHOULD BE CHASTISED FOR THEIR COMMENT. THEY WEAR THEIR HAIR NATURAL, NO ONE COMPLAINS ABOUT THAT OR TELL THEM THEY HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH, IS STRAIGHT, AND ITS OK, OURS ARE KINKY AND IT EVEN BETTER.

Hello Family!!! I am new to this site and I have been visiting the local paper in Jena to get an insight on what the people have been thinking. I logged on today www.thejenatimes.net and am upset by what I have read. They have declared a "State of Emergency" and to remain calm as if "WE" are coming to hurt them. I love my black sisters and brothers it really gets to me when we are portrayed to be something other than ourselves. I am encouraging all of us to log on and get inside the head of the people of Jena. WE are coming in Peace but hey expect a war. They had an editorial posted by Craig Franklin titled Expect the worst-Pray for the best. If this is coming from the higher heads in Jena you know what the locals think. They may not show their predudice but its there the parish is 85% white 3,000 residents 250 are black and most live on the outskirts of Jena together. I can't make the ride down but I WILL HAVE ON BLACK tomorrow.

Hello Mr. Baisden.

The interest in the Jena 6 has hit the schools in Philly. Today there was a march and rally by high school students on Broad Street to protest the unfair treatment of the Jena 6 students. These students of all colors and nationalities (including white students), along with their teachers, marched down Broad Street, halting traffic, shouting: "What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? NOW!!!! Free the Jena 6!!!!!!!"

Michael, I'm an elementary school teacher here in Philly, and I was soooooooooo proud of these students and their teachers. The march and rally was peaceful. It was just awesome to see these conscientious students marching in solidarity of their mistreated counterparts. They had police escorts, and people walking on the streets shouted in agreement with the students. Cars honked their horns in agreement with what these students were standing up for. Many schools plan to wear black tomorrow as a show of support for Jena 6.

Please keep up the good work that you do for our communities because the news media here seem afraid to touch this important issue. Without you, I would have never known about this either. As I said, the news affiliates here in Philly are not reporting anything about what's going on in Jena LA.

Thank you and God bless.

Concerned teacher in Philly,

Lynn C.

Great idea. Our kids' school uniform does not include black. So she is allowed to wear black accessories - hair bows, necklaces, socks, shoes, etc.

Yeah, my school said we can't wear black shirts to school, so we are gonna wear black ribbons. But that's not good enough for me. I'm gonna go ahead and wear a black shirt and what happens happens. I HAVE to show my support for the Jena 6.

A very important article all of our children should read.

The Prison Industrial Complex

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From: Schlosser, Eric . 1998. The Prison Industrial Complex. Atlantic Monthly, December, pp. 51-77.

War Against Crime:

Up until 1970s in the US about 110 prison inmates for every 100,000 people; 1990s - 445 per 100,000; among adult men it is about 1,100 per 100,000.

United States has approximately 1.8 million people behind bars: imagine the combined populations of Atlanta, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Des Moines, and Miami behind bars - it is more more people than any other country in the world -- perhaps half a million more than Communist China.

During the past two decades roughly a thousand new prisons and jails have been built in the United States. Nevertheless, America's prisons are more overcrowded now than when the building spree began, and the inmate population continues to increase by 50,000 to 80,000 people a year
In 1977 the inmate population of California was 19,600. Today it is 159,000--more inmates in its jails and prisons than do France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and the Netherlands combined. After spending $5.2 billion on prison construction over the past fifteen years, California now has not only the largest but also the most overcrowded prison system in the United States. The state Department of Corrections estimates that it will need to spend an additional $6.1 billion on prisons over the next decade just to maintain the current level of overcrowding.
Who are the prisoners?

70% of the prison inmates in the United States are illiterate

200,000 inmates suffer from a serious mental illness

60% to 80% has a history of substance abuse while the number of drug-treatment slots in American prisons has declined by more than half since 1993

80% of prisoners in California are African-Americans

Last year California sent about 140,000 people to prison -- and released about 132,000. On average, inmates spend two and a half years behind bars, and then serve a term of one to three years on parole.

Almost two thirds of the people sent to prison in California last year were parole violators. Of the roughly 80,000 parole violators returned to prison. The gigantic prison system that California has built at such great expense has essentially become a revolving door for poor, highly dysfunctional, and often illiterate drug abusers. The typical offender being sent to prison in California today has five prior felony convictions.

Problems Associated with prison overcrowding:

In 1997 2,583 staff members were assaulted by inmates in California. Thousands of the inmates are HIV-positive; thousands more carry hepatitis C.

"Gassing" became a problem - to struck by a cup or bag containing feces and urine.

California prison system, especially its Level 4 facilities, is full of warring gangs -- members of the Crips, the Bloods, the Fresno Bulldogs, the Aryan Brotherhood, the Nazi Lowriders, the Mexican Mafia, and the Black Guerrilla Family.

Random acts of violence.

Police brutality - at Corcoran State Prison officers allegedly staged "gladiator days," in which rival gang members were encouraged to fight, staff members placed bets on the outcome, and matches often ended with inmates being shot

double-bunking and prison overcrowding with higher rates of stress-induced mental disorders, higher rates of aggression, and higher rates of violence.

The Rise of Prison-Industrial Complex

In the last 3 decades - prison industrial complex had been developed in the US-- confluence of special interests that has given prison construction in the United States a seemingly unstoppable momentum.

Since 1991 the rate of violent crime in the United States has fallen by about 20 percent, while the number of people in prison or jail has risen by 50 percent. Increase because of imprisonment of people who have committed nonviolent offenses. Instead of community service, fines, or drug treatment - to a prison term, by far the most expensive form of punishment.
politicians, both liberal and conservative, who have used the fear of crime to gain votes;

impoverished rural areas where prisons have become a cornerstone of economic development;

private companies tap into $35 billion a year spending on prisons

Spending on corrections since 1980s increased 5 times; there are more than 1000 vendors that sell corrections paraphernalia;

The growth projected 5-10% annually;

Private prisons keep 90,000 prisoners from 27 states

"Bed brokers," rent a cell facilities ($20 to $60 a day with $2.50-5.50 commission per man-day); trucking prisoners hundreds of miles through the country - threat to public order; escapes;

Wackenhut Corrections, second largest private-prison company has ravenous $1 billion a year;

U.S. Corrections Corporation - the largest private-prison company wants to buy and run all state of Taxes’ prisons;

globalization of the private-prison business: British private-prison company, Securicor, operates two facilities in Florida; Wackenhut Corrections is now under contract to operate prison in England; three prisons in Australia; and a prison in Scotland. It is actively seeking prison contracts in South Africa.
1 pay phone in prison generates $15,000 a year; MCI installs phones for free;
Government officials whose fiefdoms have expanded along with the inmate population.

I'm very Thankful and Praise The CREATOR for this Wonderful Blessings he has bestow upon us!!

Secondly, Thank You to Michael Baisden for Putting this Story Out, it was on his Show that I first heard of this terrible Injustice, Thank You Brotha Baisden!!

Thirdly, My Question is for any Law Scholar, Esquire, Judge or Paralegal, The question is can the De Facto Court system is Jena, La. try Mychal Bell again?? Wouldn't that be UnConstitutional, Isn't that Double Jeopardy??
Respectfully,
Roc900

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

The Defacto System Tries subject citizens under a different subject matter but it is still bull sh---T. The question is why didn't MYchal Bell fall up under the Bill of Right amendment #4 Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Once the perp. threatened someone with a weapon then he has subjected himself to the defense of the victim. Mychal Bell was within his right to kill the perp. because his own life was threatened. No one has asked this question nor brought this point out.

Same as we united together, and become outraged when it comes to White Injustice, we need to do the same for all the murders each year that is committed in our black community. Since approximately 300 young black males are killed each year in St. Louis and 30 in East Saint Louis, IL, you would think they would have wiped each other out by now. But instead, this type of senseless murdering continues. The malls on both side of the river had a fight inside and they got together, set rules and guidelines to prevent future trouble. While they get together, come up with an action plan and solves the murders in their communities, we just do nothing. When will we say "No More" to our youth that have no expectations to live to get to the age of 21.

I had no idea what was going on until I heard The Steve Harvey morning show. so happened my 14yr old son and 13 yr old daughter was in the car with me. This has really touched our lives from the moment we heard. Everyday i listen to Steve and Michael and i would like to say God Bless to all whom have stepped up and represented. It makes me feel proud as an African American to see and know that we still have the power of unity and love to get things done. Although I could not make the journey to Jena but you best believe I will be wearing BLACK on Sept 20 and continue praying for everyone involved. I know in my heart that God has already made a way because we are God's Favor.Much love to all the families and everyone who is showing love unconditionally.

Hey Family.....please join Michele (yep that Black Busa) who has been dedicated to the Motorcycle Community for years as we make a "CALL FOR A CHANGE"...PASS IT ON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRESS RELEASE

JENA 6 - RALLY 4 PEACE & CHANGE

"CALL FOR A CHANGE"

Thursday, September 20, 2007 @ 8:00 pm (formation/line-up starts)

Join us as we join hands around City Hall

Starting Location: City Hall North (facing Springarden)

Some of you may have already heard about the Jena 6 case currently going on Louisiana . Although it has not received any press coverage, some radio personalities have stepped up to make sure that it is being covered and are taking a stand for these 6 black high school boys in Louisiana . They have been charged with attempted murder by use of a tennis shoe against some white students who were not at all injured in this schoolyard fight. These young men are facing up to 100 years in prison. You can go online to get more detailed information about the case.

A petition is on the move to request an investigation into the discrimination of the trial as well as other incidents leading up to the trial. PLEASE will you take the time to circulate this email to everyone you know. I'm sure we can take 2 minutes to sign the petition and forward it on to others. To anyone who is a member of a bikers club, Michael Baisden from 94.5 KSOL is organizing and petitioning all biker clubs to come together to ride out to the rally in Louisiana. If you're interested, you can go to his website for more information. The Steve Harvey Morning Show is also petitioning entertainers and groups to also join in the support.

We are a group of dedicated motorcyclist enthusiasts, who are committed in ending the violence, and injustice. We are holding this “CALL FOR CHANGE”, not only to CALL FOR A CHANGE, and remember those slain, but to engage all Philadelphians in promoting peace, and show Philadelphian’s that they are not alone and that we will work in solidarity.

These young men need our help. For those who are not able to attend the rally in Louisiana , this would be a good way to show your support. Also forward to your children or teens and encourage them to forward to their friends. This is about them and they should be just as involved as the adults are. Please join us in Philadelphia to show support.

Two local news stations showed buses leaving from Savannah heading to Jena. One was more in depth because it focused on what brought about what's going on. So I applaud WTOC for their efforts in showing what's happenning. They first went into why we are where we are today. Then, they focused on why people said they where going. So for those from Savannah State, and the other buses leaving, have a safe trip, and represent Savannah and how we fill. Michael, my sister turned me on to your show, and I've been listening ever since. I love the interest you showed, and how you got others involved. The D.A. from Jena was reporting on what's happenning. He said it's been turned into a race thing, and it's not about race. Hang nooses anywhere here in Savannah, or elsewhere, and it's about race. Not only for African Americans, but for those in th 1700 & 1800's who where hanged because they basically didn't have enough money to live like everyone else, accussed of all the crimes, and put in jail awaiting death. I wish I could be there, but I have to work. I will be wearing black and listening and watching the outcome, regardless of how hot it get's here. It's a shame I'm hours away from Loisiana, and get better broadcast here than what people are getting there on what's happenning. Safe trip for all traveling to support rights for human beings as a whole and keeping the peace. As the bible says, "Man has dominated Man to his injury." Don't put your trust in anyone but God.

Thanks Michael, George, Steve, Al Sharpton, Rickey Smiley, Tom Joyner, Black Caucaus, and all in support for getting the word out.

SECRET THEY WANTED TO KEEP FROM AFRICAN AMERICANS
WITH THE STROKE OF A PEN I CAN TAKE YOUR LIFE AWAY
KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED IF YOU WANT YOUR JOBS AND HOMES TO THE PARENTS AND FAMILIES OF THE JENA 6
three nooses hung from the oak's branches
On a late summer day in 2006, in Jena, Louisiana, a Black high school student asked permission to sit beneath the “white tree” in front of the town’s high school. It was unspoken law that this shady area was for whites only during school breaks. But a student asked, and the vice principal said nothing was stopping them. So Black students sat underneath the tree, challenging the established authority of segregation and racism. The next day, hanging from the tree, were three ropes, in school colors, each tied to make a noose.

The events set in motion by those nooses led to a schoolyard fight. And that fight led to the conviction, on June 28, 2007, of a Black student at Jena High School for charges that can bring up to 22 years in prison. Mychal Bell, a 16-year-old sophomore football star at the time he was arrested, was convicted by an all-white jury, without a single witness being called on his behalf. And five more Black students in Jena still face serious charges stemming from the fight.

THE SECRET THEY WANTED TO KEEP FROM AFRICAN AMERICANS
WITH THE STROKE OF A PEN I CAN TAKE YOUR LIFE AWAY
KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED IF YOU WANT YOUR JOBS AND HOMES TO THE PARENTS AND FAMILIES OF THE JENA 6
three nooses hung from the oak's branches
It began with a seemingly innocuous question. At an assembly during the first week of classes last fall at Jena High School in rural Louisiana, Kenneth Purvis, a junior, asked the vice principal if he could sit under the shady boughs of an oak tree in the campus courtyard. "You can sit anywhere you like," the vice principal replied. Soon thereafter, Purvis and several black friends ventured over to the tree to hang out with some white classmates. According to the school's unspoken racial codes, however, that area was reserved for white kids; Purvis is black. Some white students didn't look kindly on the encroachment: the next day, three nooses hung from the oak's branches. Some white students That provocation, which conjured up the ugly history of lynch mobs and the Jim Crow South, unleashed a cycle of interracial strife that has roiled the tiny town of Jena. In the ensuing months, black and white students clashed violently, the school's academic wing was destroyed by arson and six black kids were charged with attempted murder for beating a white peer. (The "deadly weapon": tennis shoes they supposedly used to kick the white student knocked unconscious by the first punch.) One of those black students—Mychal Bell, the only one of the "Jena Six" to stand trial so far—was convicted by an all-white jury in June on lesser felony charges of aggravated second-degree battery and is awaiting sentencing. He could face 22 years in prison. In the wake of that judgment, a host of national figures—from the Rev. Al Sharpton to the Nation of Islam to the American Civil Liberties Union—have descended on the town to inveigh against racial injustice. Billy Fowler, a white school-board member, has pledged that when the new school year starts, "we're not going to see black and white anymore. It's going to be right or wrong." But, says the Rev. Raymond Brown of Christians United, which has been working with parents of the Jena Six, "Jena does not want to come up to the 21st century. They are living deep in the past."
Decades of suppressed racial hostility spilled forth at the appearance of those swaying nooses. Word spread quickly that day; before long, scores of black students congregated under the tree. "As black students, we didn't call it a protest," says Robert Bailey Jr., one of the Jena Six. "We just called it standing up for ourselves." School officials convened an assembly in early September, where local District Attorney Reed Walters appeared, flanked by police officers. "I can be your best friend or your worst enemy," he told students, warning them to settle down. "With a stroke of my pen, I can make your lives disappear." A visit to the school, along with the fact that the three white boys who admitted to hanging the nooses were only dealt a few days' suspension, further inflamed the African-American community. "It felt like they were saying, 'We can do what we want to those n-----s'," says Marcus Jones, Bell's father.

I worked for a company that had a handbook, and it had pictures of hairstyles that where considered unacceptable. After seeing the braids, and other styles, I was offended. When I started at this company, my hair was a burgundy shade. No problem. As time went on, girls where applying with burgundy braids, not hired. Dreads, not hired. The book even had a pick of a ponytail pulled off to the side. The syles shown where styles that African Americans whore. Even KFC won't let you work with reddish hair. They feel the normal natural look is either black or brown. Different people have different hair colors, and no one can tell them what's natural or normal. As long as it is neat, and well maintained, no one should say what you do with your hair.

A peaceful gathering in support of the Jena Six will take place in Nashville, TN at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Swett's historic soul food restaurant: 2725 Clifton Street (near the campus of TSU). Wear your black and come out in support of those whose hearts are in Jena, LA but could not get on the bus for the trip.

Don't worry about the publicity (or lack thereof) the folks who need to get the message(s) being sent are getting them. In the words of poet Gil Scott-Heron: "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" remember that. Yes! I am an old-school old-head. Be happy, be proud, be there!:)

Thanks for that info

I'm from Cleveland and am also very proud to see that part of our media
is up on this. At Warrensville Middle School a teacher there had her
students do a report on this story. It is so good to see energy being
put forward to get this story out. Where is the Oprah on this?

I watch Oprah, and Montell who always seems to be outraged on what's happenning to people. So as African Americans in the spotlight, I would have wanted to hear from them probably first.

Nashville left out today with 10 buses. God bless all of you and everyone should make a stand!

This pains my heart to hear about this outrageous crime. It sickens me to be just learning of this almost a year later when all of this other unworthy news is blasted all over this news repeatedly everyday. This crime is not getting the tv air time that it needs to have with the FULL story. My prayers goes out to these Jena6 young men and their families. Racism is still here and alive we all have to admit this and take a stand and let it be known that we as a people can not and will not stand for this anymore. I have a son and I am just simply outraged that these young men could possibly spend most of their lives in prison over a school fight and with the hate crimes that were done to them those offenders get nothing but a slap on the wrist if that. I do not condone unjust fighting but punishment should be equal and this does not warrant prison time. The young man drove himself to a school function that same night was not almost dead. This is clearly segregation at it's finest. These young men should be cleared of all charges wiped from their records but this incident will never be wiped away from their hearts. Officials in this area and surrounding areas need to all get on board with this case and help to restore these young lives. The judge, jurors, and lawyer that was involved and responsible for these sentences need to be on trial. Continued prayers go out and I say to these young men to continue to pray and trust in GOD and we stand behind you as we will help you pull through. This is a family affair and know that you are not ALONE in this fight.

2. I want to welcome you to the great fraternity of bike riders. I have been on bike since I was 7 years old have been driving my own bikes for over 40 years.

3. (Most important) My wife Lisa and I own a daycare in the St. Louis area called "Precious Love Academy & Daycare." Has anyone even thought of what will happen to these families after all is said and done? If we are goign to march we need to come full circle. We who know and believe these truly families in need need to go to our local churches and to any one we know who believes and collect a dollar and gather this money because as soon as this is over they will need some where else to live and go to school in order to be successful young black men in america.Just $1.00

The importance of the Jena 6 case notwithstanding. Black America has even more issues. I am from Newport News Va (Michael Vicks hometown). We are under assault from drug dealing, gun toting young black men. We have had over 30 murders this year with multiple shootings every week. Mostly in the Black East end of town. When are we going to March against this????????

I'm totally with you. I saw something on our local news but here in the city of Huntsville, AL there are no events planned here but I am in black from head to toe and as I drove to work today I saw my fellow brothers and sisters in different cars at the light in black as well. When our eyes make a smile and a small nods are all welcomed as we feel that bond of unity. I feel so proud to see my people come in to work today wearing their black and it feels great to be, even in this small way, apart of this blessed movement in history.

I myself was not able to make it there but have three daugthers that are there. This morning I've heard one politition speak and it was Obama (he is wearing his black suit). My biggest hope is that our voices are heard, not that what this child did was right but that THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME, looking the news media they seem to be making this town and the white kid victims. Just announced on CNN Mr. Michael Baisden was given credit for this movement. My heart feels good and certiaanly blessed this would happen onn my 45th B-day.

I'm on the border of Clayton and Henry counties and I heard nothing about this. This is so ridiculous. It amazes me that people can be so judgemental of other races but they forget about how in the world other races really got here in the first place!

On another note, I'm sorry that I could not go to Jena but I am definitely in all black from my earrings to my shoes!!! :) I really hope these young men are able to go free and move on with their lives though I know it will not be easy. I also want to say that I am completely dissappointed in the fact that a lot of articles I am reading keep saying that everyone is upset because the young men that hung the nooses were not charged and after that there was a fight a few months later. EVERY article I have read fails to mention about the incident at the store and the other fight where one of the Jena 6 had a bottle broken over his head. Not only that, I was sure that it was said that the Jena 6 didn't even fight Justin Barker!!! The world we live in saddens me but all this is really encouraging me to do everything I can to make good things happen...

Thanks for being the MAN of this hour. We really needed you at this time.

THERE WASN'T A BAIL HEARING ON FRIDAY BECAUSE THE JUDGE AND THE PROSECUTOR DID NOT SHOW UP. WHEN THE PRESECUTOR'S OFFICE WAS NOTIFIED AS TO THE REASON WHY HIS SECREATARY/ASSISTANT STATED HE HAD NO BAIL HEARINGS ON HIS CALENDAR FOR THAT DAY. I certainly hope that we can take this opportunity to school our youth - not only about injustice and inequality. But also about consequences. By no means am I saying that this situation is right - it is appauling! But has anyone used this to warn our young men about the consequences of their actions? "They" are waiting for our youth to slip up so "they" can invoke their special justice. As an addendum to this lesson of unity and fairness, we should also include responsibility. How many young black boys will think that it is OK to do certain things because the black community will rally on their behalf?

Keep up the good work Michael.

Yours in the spirit of change.

Creola Cotton (left) and Shaquanda Cotton

By Tracy Stokes, BET.com News Staff & Wire Services

Posted March 28, 2007 - In Paris, Texas, last year, a 14-year-old White girl burns down her family's home. Her punishment? Probation. In the same town three months later, a 15-year-old Black girl, Shaquanda Cotton, is sentenced to seven years in prison for pushing a hall monitor at her high school.

Shaquanda had no prior arrests, and the monitor, a 58-year-old teacher's aide, was not hurt, according to Black leaders in the northeast Texas town of about 26,000 residents. But in March 2006, the same judge, Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville, who let the White teenage girl go on probation, convicted Shaquanda of 'assault on a public servant' and sent her to prison at least until she turns 21.

Officials at the Texas Youth Commission declined to discuss the case with BET.com, citing Texas law.

'State law forbids us from acknowledging whether we have any youths are in our system, despite the 50 million issues of print that's been run,' said Jim Hurley, a spokesman for the Texas Youth Commission. 'We'd have to break the law to talk about it.'

Civil Rights Uproar

While the U.S. Department of Education is investigating the incident, the case has civil rights groups in an uproar.

'I don't understand the judge's rationale for his decision,' Dr. Howard Anderson, president of the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP, told BET.com.

In highlighting what he called an egregious miscarriage of justice in a town with a long history of civil rights abuses, Anderson pointed to the case of the 14-year-old convicted arson (whose name was not released because of her age), who was slapped with probation, and the case of a 19-year-old White man in Paris, convicted of killing a 54-year-old Black woman and her 3-year-old grandson with his truck. The latter, he said, was also sentenced to probation and told to send the family a Christmas card every year.

'Then you have Shaquanda's case,' Anderson said. 'She pushed a hall monitor, and she gets seven years confinement? If I look at all three of these sentences, and I'm not a lawyer, I have to wonder what the judicial system is doing. In this particular case, what is this judge doing?'

Gary Bledsoe, an Austin attorney who heads the state NAACP branch, told BET.com that Shaquanda was merely trying to defend herself.

'All she (Shaquanda) did was grab the aide to prevent a strike,' Bledsoe said. 'It's like they are sending a signal to Black folks in Paris that you stay in your place in this community, in the shadows, intimidated.'

Sad History

And keeping Blacks in their place is nothing new in Paris, say leaders, who remind that it's the site of the first highly publicized lynching of a Black by a large White mob. In 1893, fugitive Henry White was captured in Arkansas and brought to Paris, where he was tortured and burned alive on a train bed as more than 10,000 angry townsfolk cheered and jeered.

Activists say that the Shaquanda sentence is nothing more than a modern-day lynching.

Cotton has been incarcerated at a youth prison in Brownwood, Texas, for the last year on a sentence that could run until her 21st birthday. But like many of the other youths in the system, she is eligible to earn early release if she achieves certain social, behavioral and educational milestones while in prison.

But according to The Chicago Tribune, officials at the Ron Jackson Correctional Complex repeatedly have extended Shaquanda's sentence because she refuses to admit guilt and because she reportedly was found with contraband in her cell - an extra pair of socks.

'She's not admitting any guilt, because she doesn't feel that she did anything,' Anderson told BET.com. 'Not to mention, who saw the pushing, if it did occur?'

Cotton's mother, Creola, who Anderson describes as 'strong-willed,' said her daughter was singled out because she accused the school district of racism on several occasions.

In fact, 12 discrimination complaints have been filed against the Paris Independent School District in recent years. District officials dispute the charges, but the U.S. Department of Education, which is still investigating the case, has reportedly asked the U.S. Department of Justice to get involved.

In 1998, Paris, Texas, was named the 'Best Small Town in Texas' by Kevin Heubusch in his book The New Rating Guide to Life in America's Small Cities.

Hey Family,

I just read that David Bowie donated $10,000 to the defense fund. What I would like to know is if anyone else has made donations. Where are our African American Actors and Entertainers. If there ever was a cause to be involved in this is it. I am wearing my black today, and if I could have been there I definately would have been on one of those buses. If we don't stand for something we will fall for anything. Slavery shall not exist again!!!!!!!

Family,

You will be pleased to hear that yesterday a group of Temple University students marched in support of the Jena 6. Today the front cover of the Daily News read, "Jena & Justice: Can the system be fair to 6 Black teens in truouble in a Louisiana town?". Although very late, at least the Daily News has realized that this story is much more important that the fact that O.J. has made bail.

I can't express my pride, appreciation and love for all who have taken this issue and made it their own. I have two sons (ages 1 and 2) I only wish they were old enough to be an active participate in what will surely be history in the making. Years from now, people will be look back on this and remember the time when they made a differience in their community and the lives of these young men who must have felt like they were all alone.

We can't make it to Jena but we will be on the Temple Campus this afternoon with the Philadelphia Chapter of the NAACP rallying our support for these young men, our youth and our future.

Why would the NAACP "announce" that David Bowie donated $10,000.00???

What was the purpose of the announcement, other than publicity???

Where are our African American actors and entertainers?

I heard that Ice Cube and some others would be there, on the Michael Baisden Show.

In a show of unity, the Bronx is rocking ALL BLACK!! Power to the People! :)

To be real with you, I'm kind of tired of waiting on someone to lead us. The MLK era is over. We got us! Do we really need to throw all our support & efforts behind a FACE?

Just my two cents but we ought to be about "lasting reform" and not just momentary symbolism. Therefore, I truly hope that after having these young men's charges reduced to simple assault (if not dismissed altogether) that it doesn't end there. The focus should be shifted to providing adequate funding and sufficient resources toward developing programs that will help the youth (in these kinds of towns specifically - towns that are being described as those overlooked during the civil rights era) receive continuing education/vocational training so they can find sustainable employment and won't repeat a cycle of poverty and crime. It is my understanding that Lousiana officials historically thrown the book hard at people of color while slapping whites on the wrist for the same crimes. In addition, they take $$ away from programs that could stop a cycle of poverty & crime. I propose starting a letter writing campaign toward that end.

My family and I are in solidarity with the demonstrators in Jena and around the country. As I watch CNN, I see Tony Harris trying to get different takes on the situation. He desperately wants to talk to local residents and is concerned with the effect all this will have on the town in the days to come. He and CNN want us to remember that there is a victim who was harmed. I agree.

I am the mother of an 18 year old, and it was always my fear he would get into a situation and be unjustly charged or railroaded. To have to tell your child to be careful because of your race/ethnicity and considered guilty before being found innocent is a conversation not going on in White households. Many do not understand this because they do not live it.

When my son was involved in a school fight he was suspended out of school. Bigger fights at the same school resulted in juvenile detention, not jail-time. Let us not forget the DA had discretion in this case and chose the charges. I don’t want him to admit he was wrong or prejudice. I just want him to be fair. Also only registered voters can be on juries. Register to vote!!!

WoW. I hate I wasn't able to go to the Rally in Jena. However, I am representing my shirt proudly as the only african American women in my office. I was feeling a little alone until one of the young white girls asked me "what Free Jena 6 was about" then at that point I feeled a little at piece as I was able to let some of my thoughts out. Driving into work this morning I caught myself looking into ever car that I drove passed to make sure everyone of African American decent had on black as I drove in I begin disappointed. D.C. is full of politics and scary cats. We live in 800,000 homes with the worst school system in the Country. I don't know where to begin. I fell all alone.

Country Gurl this is about an injustice and unfair treatment of all people not just black people. If you think were equal your sadly mistaken. We have come a long way but how many of us have sold out during the race. If you can't see this you are just another brain washed negro living in a fantasy world. Know there would have not been a need to march if justice had be served but since it wasn't real black people stood and went to get things strait. To all of my brothers and sisters (all races), Jena Six is an American issue. It is not a black and white issue. I know that some whites are sick and tired of hearing blacks complain about their oppression. But until you walk in our shoes (which you never will), you will not understand our struggles. Not all Americans are racists, but to say that this country is united is stretching the truth a little bit. Can't we all look past each other's skin color and look deeper into one's content of character? God made all of us equal. No exceptions to His Rule. I challenge you to love your fellowman. I am not trying to preach to anyone, but some day the Lord will call your name. How will you answer Him? If I love God, then I must love all of His creations.

What is ridiculous is the statement you are making. But I suppose if I were to read into what you are saying then you would not have a problem if YOUR child was PROBABLY involved in a school fight and sat in jail for months with the potential to serve up to 22 years in jail. I'm glad that you feel that would be the right thing to do in that situation.

Unfortunately, I am one person and cannot participate in every protest, uprising or rally against injustice across the world what says across our country. But as far as possible, I would support that effort if the situation was reversed. Why? Because the issue at hand is an unequal application of justice because 2 groups of people differ.

I like how Renea put it...

There are 70,000 + people in Jena. I too was looking into cars this morning as I was driving in. I work on a college campus so I was almost in tears when I saw so few in black. Then at 12:00 noon, all the student clubs and frats and sororities but on a program! Complete with picket signs and Revolution music (Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud!), What's Going On!
It was on like popcorn after that! The students spoke eloquently and all the Chicago stations were here to capture it. I am so proud! By yourself, in pairs in groups, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. We are a united front all over the United States.

I'm very proud of all the supporters of the young men unjustly treated in Jena, This is a something that is seen all over this country but swept under the rug by the media. We always want to change this world to the better but when the call to action is put out their it never is truly answered. I here we want change but never I'm going to change my srroundings. It seems we only rally around situations not life. Jena should be a end not a do over. I went to the million man march millions of strangers from all over this great land of ours showed up to say in one voice it's time for a change, But look around still the same bs happening everyday WHY? Question????? this is for our younger generations Why do you mourn the loss of a person close to you but will not change so it doesn't have to happen again? why not stop wasting time being negative towards others We are a FAMILY we need to stick together Now or be lost forever. One last thought for everyone Take Home Knowledge : what your learning now during the rally, marches and speeches bring with you and spread the knowledge until it consumes your community

Peace and Greetings Family,

I was writing an essay to address a couple of things. I still may finish it after I write this, but I want to give you the brief scoop out of respect for your time.

In August of 1955 this happened…

http://www.depauw.edu/photos/PhotoDB_Repository/2005/8/custom/emmett%20till%20composite-266x191.jpg
Had it not been for the bravery of Mamie Till-Mobley in showing her pain to the entire world at that time, there probably would not have been a strong enough spark to jump off the Civil Rights Movement.

Today September 20, 2007, we now have a new spark that has ignited America to take action against racial injustice. This time we have new pictures but the story remains the same. The pictures of a bruised 17 year old Justin Barker in no way resembles the grotesque remnants of the shell that was once Emmett Louis Till's body. But six young teenagers are facing around 22 years a piece for Justin's bruises and pain. TWENTY-TWO years a piece for a school fight. Some of the charges have changed but injustice still remains.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/till/peopleevents/images/e_trial3.jpg
^These two men laughed their way out of the court house untouched by the infamous two tiered judicial system of the Great U.S of A fifty some years ago.

http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2007/US/09/14/jena.six/art.bell.tues.cnn.jpg
^This young man is still behind bars, and has been for over a year, for some bruises. I’m not condoning his alleged violence, but I am against injustice.

We must now ORGANIZE and UNITE!!! If we don’t, then all of the money spent to go to all of the rallies and marches was for nothing. It was just a big parade but we still failed to do the real hard and dirty work of cleaning up the messy filth that lines our streets.

Baba Keidi Obi Awadu said words to the effect of “for all the money that it took to mobilize thousands of people to Washington DC for the Millions More Movement, we could have established a multi-media network in order to create a better communication system so that we can better organize and unify together as a whole.” Now those weren’t his exact words but that’s what I received from them. Dr. John Henrick Clarke said that he felt that enough shoe leather and money has been spent on marching.

I know the power of marching because I was at the Millions More Movement. When I received that phone call from my family stating how proud they were of me, that I was standing for something and when Badu took the stage and started to sing… I was moved to tears. There is GREAT power in numbers. But what comes after the marches are over and we've returned to our daily lives?

We MUST organize and revolutionize the way we live in order to truly overcome this particular struggle that we've been facing for thousands of years... yes I said thousands of years.

If we don’t take this energy while we still have it and harness it into a positive and productive vehicle that will drive us towards the so-called “Promise Land” then we may not get another chance to do so for a long, long, time.

Our parents and grand-parents rallied behind Emmett Till’s murder and formed the Civil Rights Movement. What will we do with this opportunity.

If you want to do something THE TIME IS NOW. I have to search deep inside of myself to put my Warrior Spirit to some real work. Kweli said, "The revolution is here, the revolution is personal." Well for many we have taken something very personal. Lets dig deep and KEEP IT MOVING! In the process of trying to change the world lets change ourselves. Lets exercise our own devils and beautify this planet as our ancestors intended us to.

To all of my friends that I've worked with in the past around similar instances lets link back up. We must seize the time.

Repost this if you believe in my words. It has nothing to do with me, but everything to do with "us."

Peace Love and Blessing Family,
Bro. black

I am the mother of a 16 y/o daughter in Smyrna, TN (just outside Nashville). This is a school with perhaps a racial mix of 70% white, 30% black. I was the organizer of an Equal Justice March in Nashville this morning and my daughter and her friend were with me. I took them into school and immediately upon entering the office was met by 3 vice-principals and a SRO who said: "you can't wear that shirt in here". It said "FREE THE JENA SIX". when incredulously, I asked why, Their answer was : "It's going to cause problems". We do not have school uniforms and it is clearly not related to any prohibited item on the dress code list. She was not even permitted to turn the shirt inside out. I contacted News Channel 5 in Nashville and they responded immediately to interview my daughter and myself. I have also contacted a local civil rights attorney and am awaiting his response. I am composing a letter to the ACLU as we speak. This has to stop...now!!!! For whatever differernce it makes, we are white and we are in this together and we must stand together or we will have no rights!! Norma

Of course, america is a native and chinese issue too. (remember the Chinese Exclusion Act?)

From the inseption of this country, people of color have ALWAYS had to fight against WHITE SUPREMACY.

Everyoine of color had an "Act"...

Blacks had The Fugitive Slave Act, the Chinese had The Chinese Exclusion Act, and the Natives had the Indian Removal Act.

Call it what you want, but the white man had an "Act" for us all!

In my opinion, the Jena 6 case is DEFINITELY a black and white issue. (a segregated tree, a noose, all white "justice", all the defendants were black, e.t.c), but I don't hate white people. To do so, would be to stoop to their level.

Also, I have handed out black ribbons for people who can not wear black that day. Finally enough is enough. I thank Michael Basiden for his passion. He took this journey from start to finish. My Name is Alfonso Jeffery Turner. I appreciate what U have done for the Young Men in Jena Louisiana. It's About time someone step up to the facts. About the injustice that is going on in Louisiana, And The United States. My thing is Black, White, Hispainic or other Right Is Right And Wrong Is Wrong! I Try My best to right The Wrongs on my job. I Work For the Dept. Of Public Works In Baton Rouge, La. I work with the Youth Dept. my church, which is Second Baptise Church. We have plays about the wrong things that are going on in the world. Which the kids write and act them out. The one last Sunday was about Jena 6, Huron head ache And A Jezbel Belly ache. To Drive the Point home. We had 30 Young men between the ages of 13 to 20 to stand up and represent the Jena 6. To let the parents know and understand that it could have been their son, nephew, cousin, or brother. I enjoyed the activities that were in Alexandria. And hope that Louisiana And the United States understand that this is not over. We as a people need to stay on top of the injustice that is going on in the World. It's 's About the Kids Which are our Future. I mean the young people have to standup and stop that old negro mentality. That some of there parents have and stop being lazy. Thinking that somebody owe them something. I BLACK and I PROUD was the song that did it for me. When I was a little boy. I went to a store called Woolworth On Third St. in Baton Rouge, La. with my Grandfather. A White man spoke to me saying hello little negro boy and I drop my head down. Because of the things I saw on T.V. as a kid. My grandfather grab me and stood me up on the stool which I was sitting on. And Said as long as you are black, NEVER hold your head down when a man is talk to you. I Don't care what color he is. I was 4 then and now I'm about to be 40 in 5 months. And I have been holding up my head every since. I miss the Million Man, but from here on out I will try my best to be there in body of finanically. Once Again thank u And Your staff for this Historical movement in my life.

HI THERE,

DO HAVE A COPY OF THAT BOOK I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT OR IS IT FOR SALE ANYWHERE, LET ME KNOW rquashwilliams@hotmail.com

At one time in this country men and woman wanted nothing more than to be treated as equals in life and all that that entails. For someone to judge their words, deeds or person on the basis of skin color was appalling. Civil rights leaders marched to the beat of a non-racist drum for the civil rights of all. In todays world we are bombarded by the very thing that was fought to be destroyed. Racism! The boy that had begun to exercise his freedom of speech did so in a way that was threatening to those in whom is was displayed. For this boy to be a racist and verbally disclose his thoughts is by all means legal and protected under his civil rights.

When someone uses their freedom of speech to threating another's life, then it becomes a legal issue. The school district has the right to discipline such a person. The persons to whom this abuse was directed then have a right to use legal means to protect themselves and take legal action if needed. Laws in place that govern us all, serves to protect the rights of all.

The people that took the law into their own hands and physically beat the young boy have been jailed for their actions and they deserve to have their actions scrutinized by the law as to the whether the had legal right to physically beat and threaten the life of this boy. These young people where no doubt offended by the actions of the boy, but they had no legal right to take the actions that they did.

Just because the people are black does not automatically make them NOT RACIST because the boy is white. To march for this cause is not what our civil rights leaders envisioned. Reverse racism is now here and it is high time people once again take to the streets and protest and march for the rights that have been lost as a result of the racist people that claim to be oppressed. I am embarrassed by you all.

As for me, I am hopeful that we can live in a world one day that never looks at a persons skin color for things such as college admission, job placement, civil rights and so on and so forth. I am American by birth and by choice. I am neither African-American, European-American, Hispanic-American nor any of the other politically correct names that you want to force upon me. I am American first and foremost. American-African, American-European, American-Hispanic is closer to what I am, but I chose to be called an American. For you to make a remark like, "It MUST have been before the first WHITE MAN set foot on this land," clearly shows that you are racist. My post was nether racist nor derogatory as you you have made yourself out to be.

Being called a "racist" by a LIAR like YOU means NOTHING!!!

At one time in this country black men and woman wanted nothing more than to be treated as equals in life and all that that entails.

An American with African, European or Hispanic roots.

You're in Virginia, aren't you? How long ago did Thomas Jefferson write his "Letters To Virginia"...about 200 years?

Thomas Jefferson On Slavery

.... It will probably be asked, Why not retain and incorporate the blacks into the state, and thus save the expense of supplying, by importation of white settlers, the vacancies they will leave? Deep rooted prejudices entertained by the whites; ten thousand recollections, by the blacks, of the injuries they have sustained; new provocations; the real distinctions which nature has made; and many other circumstances, will divide us into parties, and produce convulsions, which will probably never end but in the extermination of the one or the other race. - To these objections, which are political, may be added others, which are physical and moral. The first difference which strikes us is that of colour. - Whether the black of the negro resides in the reticular membrane between the skin and scarf-skin, or in the scarf-skin itself; whether it proceeds from the colour of the blood, the colour of the bile, or from that of some other secretion, the difference is fixed in nature, and is as real as if its seat and cause were better known to us. And is this difference of no importance? Is it not the foundation of a greater or less share of beauty in the two races? Are not the fine mixtures of red and white, the expressions of every passion by greater or less suffusions of colour in the one, preferable to that eternal monotony, which reigns in the countenances, that immovable veil of black which covers all the emotions of the other race? Add to these, flowing hair, a more elegant symmetry of form, their own judgment in favour of the whites, declared by their preference of them, as uniformly as is the preference of the Oranootan for the black women over those of his own species. The circumstance of Superior beauty, is thought worthy attention in the propagation of our horses, dogs, and other domestic animals; why not in that of man? Besides those of colour, figure, and hair, there are other physical distinctions proving a difference of race. They have less hair on the face and body. They secrete less by the kidneys, and more by the glands of the skin, which gives them a very strong and disagreeable odour. This greater degree of transpiration renders them more tolerant of heat, and less so of cold than the whites. Perhaps too a difference of structure in the pulmonary apparatus, which a late ingenious [1] experimentalist has discovered to be the principal regulator of animal heat, may have disabled them from extricating, in the act of inspiration, so much of that fluid from the outer air, or obliged them in expiration, to part with more of it. They seem to require less sleep. A black after hard labour through the day, will be induced by the slightest amusements to sit up till midnight, or later, though knowing he must be out with the first dawn of the morning. They are at least as brave, and more adventuresome. But this may perhaps proceed from a want of forethought, which prevents their seeing a danger till it be present..- When present, they do not go through it with more coolness or steadiness than the whites. They are more ardent after their female: but love seems with them to be more an eager desire, than a tender delicate mixture of sentiment and sensation. Their griefs are transient. Those numberless afflictions, which render it doubtful whether heaven has given life to us in mercy or in wrath, are less felt, and sooner forgotten with them. In general, their existence appears to participate more of sensation than reflection. To this must be ascribed their disposition to sleep when abstracted from their diversions, and unemployed in labour. An animal whose body is at rest, and who does not reflect, must be disposed to sleep of course. Comparing them by their faculties of memory, reason, and imagination, it appears to me that in memory they are equal to the whites; in reason much inferior, as I think one could scarcely be found capable of tracing and comprehending the investigations of Euclid; and that in imagination they are dull, tasteless, and anomalous. It would be unfair to follow them to Africa for this investigation.

We will consider them here, on the same stage with the whites, and where the facts are not apocryphal on which a judgment is to be formed. It will be right to make great allowances for the difference of condition, of education, of conversation, of the sphere in which they move. Many millions of them have been brought to, and born in America. Most of them indeed have been confined to tillage, to their own homes, and their own society: yet many have been so situated, that they might have availed themselves of the conversation of their masters; many have been brought up to the handicraft arts, and from that circumstance have always been associated with the whites. Some have been liberally educated, and all have lived in countries where the arts and sciences are cultivated to a considerable degree, and have had before their eyes samples of the best works from abroad.

The Indians, with no advantages of this kind, will often carve figures on their pipes not destitute of design and merit. They will crayon out an animal, a plant, or a country, so as to prove the existence of a germ in their minds which only wants cultivation. They astonish you with strokes of the most sublime oratory; such as prove their reason and sentiment strong, their imagination glowing and elevated. But never yet could I find that a black had uttered a thought above the level of plain narration; never saw even an elementary trait of painting or sculpture. In music they are more generally gifted than the whites with accurate ears for tune and time, and they have been found capable of imagining a small catch. [2] Whether they will be equal to the composition of a more extensive run of melody, or of complicated harmony, is yet to be proved. Misery is often the parent of the most affecting touches in poetry. Among the blacks is misery enough, God knows, but no poetry. Love is the peculiar oestrum of the poet. Their love is ardent, but it kindles the senses only, not the imagination. Religion indeed has produced a Phyllis Whately [3] but it could not produce a poet. The compositions published under her name are below the dignity of criticism. The heroes of the Dunciad are to her, as Hercules to the author of that poem. Ignatius Sancho has approached nearer to merit in composition; yet his letters do more honour to the heart than the head. They breathe the purest effusions of friendship and general philanthropy, and show how great a degree of the latter may be compounded with strong religious zeal. He is often happy in the turn of his compliments, and his style is easy and familiar, except when he affects a Shandean fabrication of words. But his imagination is wild and extravagant, escapes incessantly from every restraint of reason and taste, and, in the course of its vagaries, leaves a tract of thought as incoherent and eccentric, as is the course of a meteor through the sky. His subjects should often have led him to a process of sober reasoning: yet we find him always substituting sentiment for demonstration. Upon the whole, though we admit him to the first place among those of his own colour who have presented themselves to the public judgment, yet when we compare him with the writers of the race among whom he lived and particularly with the epistolary class, in which he has taken his own stand, we are compelled to enrol him at the bottom of the column. This criticism supposes the letters published under his name to be genuine, and to have received amendment from no other hand; points which would not be of easy investigation. The improvement of the blacks in body and mind, in the first instance of their mixture with the whites, has been observed by every one, and proves that their inferiority is not the effect merely of their condition of life. We know that among the Romans, about the Augustan age especially, the condition of their slaves was much more deplorable than that of the blacks on the continent of America. The two sexes were confined in separate apartments, because to raise a child cost the master more than to buy one. Cato, for a very restricted indulgence to his slaves in this particular, took from them a certain price. But in this country the slaves multiply as fast as the free inhabitants. Their situation and manners place the commerce between the two sexes almost without restraint. The same Cato, on a principle of oeconomy, always sold his sick and superannuated slaves. He gives it as a standing precept to a master visiting his farm, to sell his old oxen, old wagons, old tools, old and diseased servants, and every thing else become useless. . . . The American slaves cannot enumerate this among the injuries and insults they receive. It was the common practice to expose in the island Esculapius, in the Tyber, diseased slaves, whose cure was like to become tedious. The emperor Claudius, by an edict, gave freedom to such of them as should recover, and first declared that if any person chose to kill rather than expose them, it should be deemed homicide. The exposing them is a crime of which no instance has existed with us; and were it to be followed by death, it would be punished capitally. We are told of a certain Vedius Pollio, who, in the presence of Augustus, would have given a slave as food to his fish, for having broken a glass. With the Romans, the regular method of taking the evidence of their slaves was under torture. Here it has been thought better never to resort to their evidence. When a master was murdered, all his slaves, in the same house, or within hearing, were condemned to death. Here punishment falls on the guilty only, and as precise proof is required against him as against a freeman. Yet notwithstanding these and other discouraging circumstances among the Romans, their slaves were often their rarest artists. They excelled too in science, insomuch as to be usually employed as tutors to their masters' children. Epictetus, Terence, and Phaedrus, were slaves. But they were of the race of whites. It is not their condition then, but nature, which has produced the distinction. Whether further observation will or will not verify the conjecture, that nature has been less bountiful to them in the endowments of the head, I believe that in those of the heart she will be found to have done them justice. That disposition to theft with which they have been branded, must be ascribed to their situation, and not to any depravity of the moral sense. The man, in whose favour no laws of property exist, probably feels himself less bound to respect those made in favour of others. When arguing for ourselves, we lay it down as a fundamental, that laws, to be just, must give a reciprocation of right; that, without this, they are mere arbitrary rules of conduct, founded in force, and not in conscience: and it is a problem which I give to the master to solve, whether the religious precepts against the violation of property were not framed for him as well as his slave? And whether the slave may not as justifiably take a little from one, who has taken all from him, as he may slay one who would slay him? That a change in the relations in which a man is placed should change his ideas of moral right or wrong, is neither new, nor peculiar to the colour of the blacks. Homer tells us it was so 2600 years ago.

Jove fix'd it certain, that whatever day
Makes man a slave, takes half his worth away.

But the slaves of which Homer speaks were whites. Notwithstanding these considerations which must weaken their respect for the laws of property, we find among them numerous instances of the most rigid integrity, and as many as among their better instructed masters, of benevolence, gratitude and unshaken fidelity. The opinion, that they are inferior in the faculties of reason and imagination, must be hazarded with great diffidence. To justify a general conclusion, requires many observations, even where the subject may be submitted to the anatomical knife, to optical classes, to analysis by fire, or by solvents. How much more then where it is a faculty, not a substance, we are examining; where it eludes the research of all the Senses; where the conditions of its existence are various and variously combined; where the effects of those which are present or absent bid defiance to calculation; let me add too, as a circumstance of great tenderness, where our conclusion would degrade a whole race of men from the rank in the scale of beings which their Creator may perhaps have given them. To our reproach it must be said, that though for a century and a half we have had under our eyes the races of black and of red men, they have never yet been viewed by us as subjects of natural history. I advance it therefore as a suspicion only, that the blacks, whether originally a distinct race, or made distinct by time and circumstances, are inferior to the whites in the endowments both of body and mind. It is not against experience to suppose, that different Species of the same genus, or varieties of the same species, may possess different qualifications. Will not a lover of natural history then, one who views the gradations in all the races of animals with the eye of philosophy, excuse an effort to keep those in the department of man as distinct as nature has formed them?

This unfortunate difference of colour, and perhaps of faculty, is a powerful obstacle to the emancipation of these people. Many of their advocates, while they wish to vindicate the liberty of human nature are anxious also to preserve its dignity and beauty. Some of these, embarrassed by the question `What further is to be done with them?' join themselves in opposition with those who are actuated by sordid avarice only. Among the Romans emancipation required but one effort. The slave, when made free, might mix with, without staining the blood of his master. But with us a second is necessary, unknown to history. When freed, he is to be removed beyond the reach of mixture.

The particular customs and manners that may happen to be received in that state?

It is difficult to determine on the standard by which the manners of a nation may be tried, whether catholic, or particular. It is more difficult for a native to bring to that standard the manners of his own nation, familiarized to him by habit. There must doubtless be an unhappy influence on the manners of our people produced by the existence of slavery among us. The whole commerce between master and slave is a perpetual exercise of the most boisterous passions, the most unremitting despotism on the one part, and degrading submissions on the other. Our children see this, and learn to imitate it; for man is an imitative animal. This quality is the germ of all education in him. From his cradle to his grave he is learning to do what he sees others do. If a parent could find no motive either in his philanthropy or his self love, for restraining the intemperance of passion towards his slave, it should always be a sufficient one that his child is present. But generally it is not sufficient. The parent storms, the child looks on, catches the lineaments of wrath, puts on the same airs in the circle of smaller slaves, gives a loose to the worst of passions, and thus nursed, educated, and daily exercised in tyranny, cannot but be stamped by it with odious pecularities. The man must be a prodigy who can retain his manners and morals undepraved by such circumstances. And with what execration should the statesman be loaded, who, permitting one half the citizens thus to trarnple on the rights of the other, transforms those into despots, and these into enemies, destroys the morals of the one part, and the amor patriae of the other. For if a slave can have a country in this world, it must be any other in preference to that in which he is born to live and labour for another; in which he must lock up the faculties of his nature, contribute as far as depends on his individual endeavours to the evanishment of the human race, or entail his own miserable condition on the endless generations proceeding from him. With the morals of the people, their industry also is destroyed. For in a warm climate, no man will labour for himself who can make another labour for him. This is so true, that of the proprietors of slaves a very small proportion indeed are ever seen to labour. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever: that considering numbers, nature and natural means only, a revolution of the wheel of fortune, an exchange of situation is among possible events: that it may become probable by supernatural interference! The almighty has no attribute which can take side with us in such a contest. - But it is impossible to be temperate and to pursue this subject through the various considerations of policy, of morals, of history natural and civil. We must be contented to hope they will force their way into every one's mind. I think a change already perceptible, since the origin of the present revolution. The spirit of the master is abating, that of the slave rising from the dust, his condition mollifying, the way I hope preparing, under the auspices of heaven, for a total emancipation, and that this is disposed, in the order of events, to be with the consent of the masters, rather than by their extirpation.

After many months of watching the Jena 6 story, I can not believe that I live in the most powerful democratic nation on the earth. I think to myself daily this can not be real but it is. I try to look at everyone as an individual but it is hard when injustices are committed on a daily basis against African Americans and we are the only ones that are primarily outraged. This must stop and must stop before we allow another generation to have a Jena 6. I am 31 and I can remember the horror I felt every time the Rodney King beating was flashed across the tv. At that time I was to young I felt to make a difference, but I can not stand by and do nothing now. It is my proposal that every thursday until not all Mychal Bell is free but all charges are dropped that we as a United people purchase nothing. Let the economic power that we have be felt not only in our home state but around the country. Let the nation know that this is not just for one day and that we are totally united to do whatever needs to be done in order for justice to be served.

My family and I just finished watching the CNN - Judgement in Jena Special.
Overall it was informative. But I am disappointed they did not focus on the remaining charges on the other teens. Or touch on the conflicting statements about who was actually involved in the fight. Judging by the responses on CNN, many people feel the demonstrators did not feel the 6 should be held accountable. The CNN special did inform the public that this is about the charges and not about the boys escaping punishment.

Then it was back to OJ, Dan Rather, and Britney.

Mychal Bell committed an act of violence against another person and deserves all that he gets. The others need to be tried as well. The white boy that started this mess deserves to be punished as well but it looks as if Mychal Bell and those involved took the law into their own hands.

Tell me once again we the Jena 6 deserve to be exonerated? If you have any inclination to exonerate the Jena 6 because of the Black White issue, then you may be using racist views to guide your judgment. What difference does it make what color everyone is unless they in fact made a discussion based on skin color.

The Jena 6 made a choice to take anthers life into their own hands. By Mychals own admission was based on the fact that he was white and they are black and felt oppressed by his actions. As vile as his actions had been, the Jena 6 in fact made a choice based on skin color. Mychal also admitted under oath to saying, "... this cracker goin out like bitch he his." That word alone (cracker) is a racist word as offensive to most white people as Nigger is to most black people.

This march is very much one sided and has many overtures of racism guiding its cause.

yeah, I'd like to know what that was all about too..In fact, I'd like to know where Tom Joyner, Tyra Banks, Oprah Winfrey and any other MAJOR PERSON FROM THE BLACK MEDIA was!! And what did they have to say? I just watched the CNN special on the Jena 6 and it was like watching the " mississipi burning". It was something to watch! Those people really believe that they aren't racist. The funny part to me was when the old white pastor showed the free food his church distributes to the poor. white and black.
as if to say. " atleast we feed em!" then actually saying " stay away! let us deal with this!! I wouldn't at all be surprised to find out that he's a klan member himself! and OH MY LORD!!! Then what does the WHITE RACE deserve for coming over here and KILLING THE INDIANS and STEALING their land???

Then what does the WHITE RACE deserve for coming over here and KILLING THE INDIANS and STEALING their land???

Probably the same thing the black race deserves for enslaving all the White and Indian people in Burkina Faso, Africa since the 1700 to this very day. Probably the same thing the Black tribal leaders deserve for selling their own people for slavery to the white men in the first place. Probably the same thing the black pharaohs deserve for enslaving all the Jewish people for 400 + years (let my people go).

The Indians did not own the land we now reside in (except for the Louisiana territory). They had no established law to govern them at any time time in history. No other country in the world recognized this land as an Indian owned land. They where in fact drifters, moving often from Central Mexico to the United states (as it is know today) and up through Canada. These lands had been owned by the French and Spanish long before the Indians took hold of land formerly know as the Louisiana territory. They only held a title to this land (Louisiana territory) for a short time until it was purchased from them.

Blackman7 ... Are you so ignorant that you in fact think the original people that lived in a land should be the rightful owners? If that is the case then you your self should move back to Central Africa were our ancestors came from. Unless you currently own a title deed to the land the the land is in fact not yours.

I am embarrassed by you

Nothing should happen to the White people. They are just as murderous as the Indians and Black people ... Or do you not know your history. What matters is this current time, and at this time the Jenna 6 broke the law.

GET OUTTA HERE WITH THAT NONSENSE!!!!! Why do you think in the land now called "Georgia", they held what was known as "The Cherokee Land Lottery"???

That's because, just as the name implies, they were giving away CHEROKEE LAND!!!!

You are a DEVIL to try to RATIONALIZE the white man's WICKEDNESS, by again LYING, and saying that the natives didn't own their own land.

Today had an air about it as history tripped over herself--no, it wasn't Selma, it was Jena. I am often critical of black america for its complacency with accumulating wealth in this country. However, today we lived up to the legacy of those strong black men and women that traveled across the middle passage as cargo determined to survive in a land hell-bend on abusing and destroying not just their bodies, but their very souls. Needless to say, our ancestors’ will to survive and plant roots triumphed in the matter. Today I think Dr. King would have been pleased to see the passion of our ancestors’ burn so strong and bright in us today. Today there was a collective sense of pride that bridged the past and present to remind us why we are Beautiful as people—black people in particular. I have often asserted that America would not be as great as she is without the conscience of black folks. The country wouldn’t shine as the beacon of hope to so many hoping to reach her shores had their not been the likes of a Dr. King, an Al Sharpton, a Jessie Jackson, and women whose strength were only matched by their beauty in a Rosa Park or Coretta Scott King. Today it felt especially good to be clothed in my brown skin as I saw young and old brothers and sisters walk by and give a nod as to say it’s okay—the unspoken was powerful and it would not be denied. This is who we are—we are builders, we are crusaders, we are the conscience of this country. Again I say, Dr. King would be proud to see his people (all people) awaken to the realization that it is either non-violence or non-existence and an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Well done.

I just read this story today in full detail about Megan Williams in W. Virginia. I am so sorry and prayerful for this young woman and her family. She has endured a horrible attack by six very sick and twisted people. Please family, let's not forget about her.

Visit http://wowktv.com/story.cfm?func=vie...&storyid=29132 to read more about her story and the parties involved.

Please read the police transcript in this article so that you all can read her account of what happened to her. I just don't want this city in Logan county of Virginia to fail in serving this young woman the justice that's due to her. The people that kidnapped, raped, tortured, etc. her should be given life in prison without parole in my opinion.

Warning: The content of the article and the police transcript are very explicit and sick. I almost threw up.

Baltimore, MD: I noticed many/most (98%-ish) of the news reporters (NBC, FOX) wore all black today, the talk show hosts and many/not all guest were also in all black. (Jay Leno has on Black AND Purple.) I caught a report on PBS where the reporter indicated many in the town was tight lipped with arms folded in irritation and anticipation of violence but there was none. Then described the atmosphere of the March as "a Big Family Reunion." The wearing of the Black by the media and the positive reporting of the day really moved me. WOW!!!

Unfortunately, it wasn't the same feeling for me at work. I was looking forward to seeing a sea of Blackness but that wasn't so. I sat by the entrance and counted approx 80 people. Only 3 people had on Black and I couldn't help but believe it was because that just happened to be what they pulled out for the day as opposed to a conscience choice. As I moved about throughout the day and paid attention to the myriad (hundreds) of Black employees, I only noticed a sparse handful (I'm talking single digits) dressed in full or partial Black. This saddened me. Are my "educated, professional" brothers and sisters THAT out of touch? There but for the grace of God people. That could be you, me, any of our children, parents, or grandparents. Thank you and God Bless you ALL who were able to attend and ALL who were not able to attend but displayed your support.

Sad to see that nothing has changed in 30 years! yea right:(

Good publicity!

Yesterday was exciting and dissapointing for me. I was very excited at seeing so many people in Atlanta wearing black, on the train, in their cars, walking, at work......but I was sad when I arrived at the capital and their were only a few people there. Atlanta, the black mecca, what happened!?! This is 2007 in Atlanta where most black professionals have at least 2 weeks vacation. You can't take some time off for vacation but in the 60s people came out to risk their lives and livelihood!

Another thing that excited me were the group of high school students from N. Druid Hills Art School. They were on fire! I hope they can get on the show because they had a lot to say about what youth are going through and they were very eloquent about it.

First of all, let me extend my congratulations to the Baisden camp, and everyone involved for getting such a massive undertaking planned in so little time- even the military can't boast that feat!

I was proud of the fact that so many of us have come together and shown support for the families hurt by this situation in Jena. I listened to the Steve Harvey show yesterday morning when he talked to the Lt. Governor of the State of LA., and heard that man as he reminded people that the only 'victim' had been the white boy who was beaten up. For me, I almost felt like throwing a rock and hitting him upside his head- for suggesting that this 'victim'- who is neither in jail nor black, was the sole innocent in this case.

I'm proud of how everyone turned up and gave their support for the situation, and I'm proud that everyone involved are staying the course until this lesson in racial injustice & equality has come to its due conclusion.

Free the Jena 6! For all the black families down there, be assured that there are many of us who are PROUD to stand with you for the sake of TRUE JUSTICE!

THE MARCH WAS NOT ABOUT RACE!!!!!! IT WAS ABOUT DESPARITY

An American with African, European or Hispanic roots.

Haven't you heard of Amadou Diallo, Abner Louima, Timothy Thomas, or Malice Green???

Did you watch the coverage yesterday? Robin Robinson did not wear black a native of Louisana. Soledad O'Brian wore black, Cheryl Burton Chicago wore black, Tony Harris Cnn covering the story in Jena, did not wear black and consistantly was looking for balance reporting instead of the truth.

The only reason why blacks don't believe racism still exist because they are some removed from livinig black, reading black, worshiping black, and uplifting blacks. When I was a child during the Kennedy Administration, blacks ran to join the catholic church and enroll their children. This move made them unlike the average Negro.

and don't forget Flavor Flav. Blacks support all of these mega media entities and when its time to show up.......they are a no show....I think Robert Johnson should stop giving them BET awards, they manage to attend ever other award presentation, but not for the blacks. Give the award to next runner up who would probably cherish the award. The impression I got from the interviews they think the prosecuter is correct in his judgement. Which leads me to belive the town has issues. It's bad when our own people who have direct access to the media back down on issues and they also influence others from being involved

Yesterday our children stepped up and stepped into their own and brought about effect change. Yesterday, members of this Message Board and other media recognized that our concerns are no longer to be ignored nor swept away.

Today the major news media “conveniently” ignored what was a momentous achievement for us yesterday. I am not surprised that something so important to almost half this Great National could be down played by all the major news media. Unfortunately, there is NO MAJOR BLACK owned news television station. But we have this forum!

Nevertheless, I applaud all who took part in yesterday’s event! God Bless you all!

What next? Should we begin to contact the BOD’s of ABC, NBC, CBS or CNN, their advertisers? Are we satisfied with their follow-up coverage? Let’s keep going what our children have started.

Let’s continue to be strong. Let’s continue to let our voices be heard. Let’s continue to be vigilant. Let’s continue to make effective change.

On my way driving to the rally I noticed a lot of people wearing black, we all seemed to acknowlege one another with a simple smile or the honk of the car's horn.:D I was so proud to attend the rally with my 18 month old little one that I take care of. We were first greeted with free bottles of water and a program telling us of the events that would take place. So many people that should their support in wearing black, to see so many was really breath taking. I know for a fact that their were thousands, everyone"s spirts were so lifted, people were hugging, chatting and just looking out for one another. We are a loving people so this didn't surprise me at all.

Also it was so neat to see teachers that bought their classes to participate, all generations were in attendance, so glad to see evryone coming together. What I also liked was the fact that their were no vendors at this rally, sometimes they can be nuisances trying to sell the wares. The poets were great, a couple poems had people wiping thier eyes because it was so touching.

Tomorrow that are asking everyone to protest in front of Debra Lee's house she is the president of BET. We're sick of these disgusting videos and movies on BET, except for one show I have to say I don't even bother to watch it nad haven't in a long time.

I don't know why but I was shocked that they just kind of skimmed through this coverage.  You are right Michael said that their were 600,000 people the media just said thousands. Washington DC's coverage stunk to high heaven, now if we can hear about Britney showing her crotch, Paris driving drunk, Lohan being drunk etc there is no excuse why they didn't do extensive coverage on the Jena 6 rally. This is one reason I don't watch the news too often they feed you what they want to feed you, not one time did they call the noose hanging a hate crime, not oe time did they mention the guy aiming a gun, no one time did they mention the bottle getting smashed over one of the boy's head. They were so focused on the 6 boys attacking the one boy. If he was hurth that bad how was he released with manor bruises and how in the world was he able to party on the same day?

I am sooooo proud of my folks!!!!! My grandfather is a 1921 Tulsa race riot survivor and was excited about this peaceful protest.

Even with the wonderful events on yesterday...We still have some issues that we need to attend to, ...

Next thing we have to attack (yes I said ATTACK) is BET...for promoting black on black crime...what am I referring to?

That indignant PSA that was suppose to "promote" reading, etc...

In my humble opinion...that is black on black crime...that production did not use creativity and talent...it is my opinion that stupidity and greed fueled that "creation" to assist in degrading ourselves further.

That video is worst than crack.

Tom Joyner did talk about Jena 6 on his program several times! I think he also attended the rally yesterday. Now Oprah is another story I quit watching her years ago.

WOW! Job well done! :) We actually wanted to share with you guys on yesterday in showing our support locally for Jena 6. We represent three companies, all with a clear focus on equality for everyone. We just wanted to show our support as we continue to pray for all those involved, all those fighting, and all of those without voices.

We are in trying times now & we are all grateful for individuals such as yourself taking a proactive approach to exposing the injustice and doing something about it. It is one thing to talk the talk, but you walked THE WALK--YOU GO BOY..or should I say..BAD BOY!

We applaud you and your amazing staff & supporters..THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!

On thursday those of us that could not make to trip were is full support of the cause, Proudly wear our black at work (I'm an autoworker). Some even went as far as having t-shirt made in support of the Jena 6. saying either; Jena 6 enough is enough, Free Jena 6, along those lines and some displayed a tree on the back. Some one had issue with the the display of the tree (no ropes was hanging from any branches). We weren't told who. But we were asked to change our shirts. Of course we refused. Free speech what happen to that right? Did they take that out of the consitution? How can a simple tree offend someone?

Even in a silient peaceful display of unity. WE ARE HEARD VERY LOUDLY

I was so proud to see all of us stand together in peace. Have you guys seen this thing on CNN where these two boys, an 18 year old driver and a 16 year old passenger showed in Alexandria yesterday and started riding around remaining protestors with nooses hanging from their trucks? They've been arrested.

While it bothers me, it makes me feel good that we intimidated racist people enough to bring them up out of their holes. They are probably scared at this point. "Uh-Oh, black folks are coming together". This scares people with racist agendas and I only hope we keep up the good work.

I think right now people are energetic because this is fresh. But, as with most things, the Million Man March, Katrina, etc. we get motivated and then we fall back into the mundane tasks of everyday life. We must stay on top of these things and not get sidetracked. If we show up like we did in the tens of thousands in Jena, and don't show up in numbers at other times, our power and ability to sustain seems diminished.

If you can't march do other things. Volunteer in the black community, go save a black kid somewhere. Do something! Anything!

I love you all!

For those looking for Jena6 coverage...try CNN. They are covering the court hearing today intermittently.
I think we should also take the bare-bones coverage of this as a queu (sp?) to begin resourcing black media (radio) and push them to cover issues that matter.

I LOVE Flavor Flav! He's the GREATEST HYPE MAN IN THE BUSINESS!

When it comes to checking WHITE FOLKS, leave that up to the CONSCIOUS brothas like Professor Griff and Chuck D! :D

One brotha on BET wrongly called Flavor Flav a "21st Century Steppinfetchit". Well Steppinfetchit never did a LOVE SCENE or have women FIGHTING OVER HIM on TV! :D

Your comment was on point. This same group of degenerates claim not to know who 50 cents is, what rims are, who the new black panthers are so on and so forth. They are more concerned with where you went to school, how many generations from slavery are you removed, what sorority or fraternity did you pledge, where you live and always trying to maintain the one upmanship.

I hear you!

Definately, did not want him saying anything...... just show up. You have the #1 show on VH1. Mos Def, Ice Cube, Maxine Water, Rev Al are for the politics but some of these entertainers such as Flav has a following. I know we could have trusted him to say Free Jenna Six

Michael Baisden, i can't thank you enough for what your doing. If ever you need me or my help, I'm here for you.

For those that left from the Dallas are, friend ship west, A very Special Thank you to all. If you did go, this will be a day that we will remember for day's, weeks and years to come. I myself had a chance to speak with People that live there, this is a town that really does not care about treating everyone as equal's.

I did get a chance to speak to some that live in Jena and got a some what better understanding of what was in the news and what was not in the news. Education should have been the fix all to this but someone let this get out of control. Seems to me the ones that let it get out of control can and could fix this.

African American's are still being treated as if we are in the 40's and 50's, WHY?

I could go on and on but I"ll stop here. As one of the Bus Leaders that left from Friend Ship West, Bus 10#, we were bless. I worked with a great group of people.

Thanks again to all

LOL maybe he's afraid that like, on that episode of "Strange Love" when he brought Bridgette Nielsen onstage during a Public Enemy performance(which I thought was HILARIOUS), that again, he might embarrass the members of Public Enemy.

Chuck D, if you read this, don't be mad or disappointed with Flav.

He made ME laugh and there ain't NOBODY blacker than me! :D

Becoming familiar with Flavor Flav helped me to see Chuck D's true genius. Before anyone ever heard of Flavor Flav, he knew that Flav's persona could help launch Public Enemy!

I think the snobs are worst. Because they really don't have anything to be snobbish about soon as a situation arises they come running,(OJ) but will snurl their nose at you because you refuse to be the slave of coach, dooney and burke, and all the other rich white folks getting richer off there stupidity and self hatred. I look inside folks hearts and how they react to situations not what they drive, where they live, who they know the local undertaker, and most of these bourgeoisie (self defined) legends in their own minds do not contribute/support any little league teams in the neighborhoods or any neighborhood causes even though its a tax write off. They sell goods in my hood and become hood rich. In my opinon these are the welfare pimps quick to extend credit for inferior services worst black people on the planet!

Once agian, Oprah refuses to use her position of wealth and influence to simply stand for what is right. She loves to invoke her rags to riches story on her own personal life, however she consistently avoids any story or angle that would make the majority squirm in their seats.

In such a powerful position to effect so much change, yet she is consistently and deliberately disconnected from the black collective. What a shame.

To explain the self-hatred comment. You have to hate yourself if you define yourself by material items you possess.

How can you LOVE yourself, when you've been taught you were "just a nigger" all your life? This society, based in WHITE SUPREMACY, promotes black self hate.

What more do you expect?

Oprah is only famous because whites LOVED the way she beat her BLACK husband in "The Color Purple".

If she had beaten a WHITE MAN, we would have never HEARD of her!
