Lyrics to Free the Jena 6 by Jasiri X
Justice for Everybody Not African
Indians and Latin kids lock them up and pack them in
Crime pays so the DA will trap them in
It’s the new millennium slave trafficking
Call Weezy, Call Baby, Call BG, Call Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Call Master P
Soulja Slim would have rode but he in the ground
Somebody call Young Turk he ‘bout to get out
Call Romeo he ballin’ on a scholarship
Don’t be silenced by record label politics
Original Man so I’ll be the genesis you know what the mission is:
We gonna FREE THE JENA 6
Jena, Louisiana they call it the Deep South
In other words black folks keep out
Or stay in your place its OK if you’re playing it safe
Or a wide grin stay on your face
Kids raised to hate
Before age 8 they learn to tie nooses this is what a lie produces
And 10 years later you beside the student in high school
In his mind you’re a visitor N---- it’s my school
This is my room don’t you even try coon
It sets the stage for a showdown at high noon
Lunchtime in the cafeteria one mind thinking blacks inferior
One time under a tree that cracks the exterior and reveals the truth
Must of forgot that you’re still a spook
You’ll remember when you see this noose see this tree was used
To hang your ancestors after we’d party and barbecue
This led to rising tension when the ones who did it got a brief suspension
And you know our spirit we will not surrender we always fight back
It’s on now its white vs. black like a war
A black kid was jumped it opened the door
A white man pulled a shotgun at a convenience store on black children
They didn’t put their hands to the ceiling
They disarmed the man and then ran from the building
Unless you’re born black you can’t understand the feeling
They beat that boy down they never planned to kill him
Them young brothers just wanted to defend they friends
And in the end to suspend is all it should have been
But they went further
They was charged as grown men for attempted murder
For a fight in high school
They were made an example in Jena that whites rule
And you won’t see this on the Nightly News
Cause they’ll likely choose dog fighting and blues
Michael Vick being stripped of his lightning shoes
Not 6 teenagers being charged despite the rules
Or a racist prosecutor trying to take our future
This is madness children behind bars this is savage
As we spend money on cars, jewelry and fabric
Our children need our help to heal this damage
When you don’t speak the truth watch your realness vanish
So sign the petition organize for the victims
Please give your money, your time, and your wisdom
And to Mychal Bell were gonna fight for your freedom
And we want a million dollars for every night you keep him
It’s Justice for Everybody Not African

As a mother of a 14yr old young man I say to him Knowledge is Power and Power is Knowledge.
This young man has exhibited knowledge with some very powerful words.
Hats off to and your parents for allowing you to be able to express yourself in a well deserving way.
Keep looking up:)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prison-industrial_complex
You can purchase stocks so you see the brotha is right - the words are true we just have to wake up. This is a start. Thank you JasiriX for the song - we appreciate you.
The prison-industrial complex refers to interest groups that represent organizations that do business in correctional facilities, such as prison guard unions, construction companies, and surveillance technology vendors, who some people alleged that they are more concerned with making more money than actually rehabilitating criminals or reducing crime rates.
Allegedly, this desire for monetary gain has led to the rise of the Prison industry. Writing for The Atlantic Monthly in December 1998, Eric Schlosser said that "The 'prison-industrial complex' is not only a set of interest groups and institutions; it is also a state of mind. The lure of big money is corrupting the nation's criminal-justice system, replacing notions of safety and public service with a drive for higher profits. The eagerness of elected officials to pass tough-on-crime legislation — combined with their unwillingness to disclose the external and social costs of these laws — has encouraged all sorts of financial improprieties."[1] Geo Group quote from their website "During the first year of operation, the facility is expected to house 1,086 offenders with a long range goal of the housing bed capacity reaching approximately 2,416 offenders. Food Service is contracted by Aramark and medical services are contracted by Correctional Medical Services."[1]
Critical Resistance, a political interest group that seeks to abolish the prison industrial complex, states that, "The prison industrial complex (PIC) is a complicated system situated at the intersection of governmental and private interests that uses prisons as a solution to social, political, and economic problems. The PIC depends upon the oppressive systems of racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia. It includes human rights violations, the death penalty, industry and labor issues, policing, courts, media, community powerlessness, the imprisonment of political prisoners, and the elimination of dissent."[2]
These views are shared widely by critics of the carceral state, retributive justice, military-industrial complex, the War on Terrorism, the War on Drugs, militarism and Homeland Security

I read the lyrics and just heard the record and the voice of the young man Jasiri X on today's show. I am not a huge fan of hip-hop, unless it is positive and empowering (which seems to be a rarety) I am highly impressed by what I heard in the song and on the air today. Best of everything to Jasiri X.

Mr. Jasiri X I am soooooooo proud of you for writing this song. I wish more young male would step up and be more positive for others. I have made my 16 year old son listen to your song and he will be doing a report for me on the Jena 6. It is my job as a parent to help educate my child and I want to give them all the knowledge that I can. Please tell your Parents for me I said thank you for doing their job. Far to many times we hear about the negative things that our youths are doing and not enough about the positive things that they are doing like yourself. You are a very gifted individual and I pray that you don't change your style of writing. We have enough negative rapers out there now and it is time that we have some positive rappers to listen too. Again I say JOB WELL DONE YOUNG MAN!!!!! Lyrics to Free the Jena 6 by Jasiri X

When I heard this song today on Michael Baisden's show, I cried. I was on my way home from work and had to pull my car over. The words are that powerful. And then came the good news about Mychel Bell. I know there is still a fight to be fought and I am there with you all. God is Good. God Bless Mychel and the rest of the Jena 6. It looks like God is going to handle this one.

I bet YO dumb asz probably thinks that Punk Rock is a MASTERPIECE!
I heard the song on the show today and this young man's work is excellent. Brothers and sisters, everyone has a right to their opinion and I will always defend the rights of anyone who wishes to express their opinions. Let's not call names and stoop to the level of those whose actions prompted this great work. In truth, that district attorney in Jena has motivated us to positive action and I know that wasn't his purpose. Let's keep things going positive.
I don't agree with White Guy but I defend his right to express his opinion. We can treat him with respect even if we disagree with him. I have nothing good wishes for Jasiri X to keep on putting his pen to paper and giving voice to our struggles. He is a true gem.

Whew, I was listening to the Michael Basden show when Marcus, Mychal Bell's dad spoke to Jasirix, I shed tears in my cubical. (which I will be giving up shortly) I am so giddy about Sep 20th, I can hardly sleep. I'm so email crazy right now I even emailed the United Nations. They have a Humanity site you know. The pen is mightier than the sword. And we're bringing it. I've been waiting for this moment all my black life! We're talking nobel prize @#$# Michael. What do you think about that?

The court has overturned this case, and I am hopeful that this will create a snowball affect. I dare venture to say that they can STILL try him as a juvenile and create some more havoc. Do you think those white folks in Jena are the least bit happy that their town has been put on point? The light of justice and truth has been directed toward their darkness? Just like the KKK in the days of old- they are going to want the last word. Hopefully, this will be DISMISSED WITHOUT THE YOUNG MAN HAVING A RECORD AND so goeth the rest of the 5. They can still create matters of concern. We want him out of jail - all of them and no mark on their records! We want their families recompensed! And "I" would love to see them able to move from that racist place and be able to live in peace somewhere else.
It ain't over - til it's over.....

Hey Sisters and Brothers,
Check this out. The "Jena 6" incident has made me aware of Michael Baisden. Why now? Why not now?
Time is like sitting on a (subway) train looking out the window for your station. When you see it, you get off the train. Obviously, I chose to "get off" here.
I'm a 'young' senior, originally from Brooklyn, NY, now residing in Charlotte, NC...(fertile ground for such a time as this).
I've been aware of Al Sharpton for a long time and all he has done in an effort to bring fairness, and gain respect for our (African American) people. It is his desire to see that justice, not just-us, is meted (pronounced; meeted) out fairly. He has, and continue to put his life on the line constantly in OUR fight.
I LISTEN TO HIM DAILY ON XM RADIO 169 "THE POWER."
As is the case now, there was a time when (we were "colored" Negroes) some people didn't like Muhammed Ali because he was proud, and aware of his "Blackness," and the pride that should go along with it.
Pride that came "Before the Mayflower." Before those that would have us think our history bagan in 1619 when the first enslaved African people set foot on "American" soil.
BTW...stop referring to our ancestors as "slaves" but rather as "enslaved." It changes the GUILT, the SHAME!
We heard James Brown when he said: "SAY IT LOUD, I'M BLACK AND I'M PROUD." Well, FYI, Sharpton is saying the same thing, only with different words. Sort of; old wine in a new bottle. Give him some love!
I say this, to say that it is because of Rev's involvement in the "Jena 6" fiasco that I became aware of Michael Baisden, and this site. It is a fiasco because the powers that be in Jena will fail in their effort to destroy the lives of the 6 boys involved. Justice will prevail!
Michael has made it clear that he admires Al Sharpton, and is joining forces with him to SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER! That's a real good thang.
I disagree with Michael when he says "this is not a racial issue." Of course it is. Were it not a racial issue, we would not be here.
I DO understand his effort to make the SOLUTION...an issue that affects, and crosses racial lines. You know--"blind justice." Also, to have a diverse' 'following' participating in seeking justice.
OK, that being said. My reason for posting this reply to Jasiri X's ABSOLUTELY GREAT song, is that I too happen to be a singer/songwriter. Jazz is my first love, but, as Duke (Ellington) said; "Music is My Mistress." Incidentally, for those of you young ponies that were not aware, "Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke," is in honor of Mr. Ellington.
In my years, I've learned to appreciate many genre, pronounced "sjonra." (types) of music.
As a lyricist, nothing is more important than a good lyric...and for us, a good rhythm, a good beat.
Jasiri X's words are powerful! They speak to the conditions that African-Americans in general, and African American men in particular are faced with on a daily basis. Now, as is apparent, the "powers that be" are coming after the children, the boys...and girls.
The line in Jasiri X's song/rap that struck me most speaks of the "modern day slavery." THAT'S JUST WHAT THE PRISON SYSTEM IS; MODERN DAY SLAVERY!!
Check out the US CONSTITUTION, THE 13TH AMENDMENT! IT'S "LEGAL!!!"
"NEITHER SLAVERY NOR INVOLUNTARY SERVITUDE, EXCEPT AS PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME WHEREOF THE PARTY SHALL HAVE BEEN DULY CONVICTED, SHALL EXIST WITHIN THE UNITED STATES, OR ANY PLACE SUBJECT TO THEIR (US) JURISDICTION.
CONGRESS SHALL HAVE THE POWER TO ENFORCE THIS ARTICLE BY APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION."
Not only is it "legal," but it is becoming more and more privatized...for profit. THE PRISON SYSTEM IS NOT FOR REHABILITATION, IT'S FOR PROFIT!! IT'S BIG BUSINESS!!!
And YOU, my brothers and sisters are the "chosen people" to fill those cells. It's you and I that are to be warehoused if 'they, CORPORATE AMERICA' have their way.
NO DOUBT, MANY OF OUR POLITICIANS, OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS HAVE STOCK IN THIS EVIL PRISON SYSTEM. THAT'S WHY LAWS DON'T CHANGE.
THAT (THE 13TH AMENDMENT) PERHAPS SHOULD BE OUR NEXT BATTLE!!!
So...how do we avoid this, how do we stay out of "the system?" As Nat "King" Cole sang: STRAIGHTEN UP AND FLY RIGHT!!!
STOP THE KILLING OF EACH OTHER. STOP THE DRUG USE/SELLING. STOP THE VIOLENCE!!!
I know it's not as simple as that--the boys in Jena weren't commiting any crime! But please understand--the deck is stacked against you...us.
It is however, our right, our duty to challenge injustice.
Matter of fact:
"WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF EVIDENT THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, AND ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR WITH CERTAIN UNALIENABLE RIGHTS THAT ARE AMONG THESE, LIFE , LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS...THAT WHENEVER ANY FORM OF GOVERNMENT BECOMES DESTRUCTIVE OF THESE ENDS, IT IS THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO ALTER OR TO ABOLISH IT...
Some of you may recognize that as the second paragraph to the Declaration of Independence. Read it! Read the Constitution!
As MALCOLM X said; Learn to think for yourselves. Don't be a follower.
Jasiri X's piece is for THIS fight
I would like to take our minds, our struggle, our fight to another level...a level beyond Jena as "A FAMILY IN UNITY":
ALL ACROSS THE NATION THROUGHOUT THE USA
WE'RE GONNA HEAR THE SOUND "LET FREEDOM RING"
TOGETHER, YOU AND ME...
WE'RE STANDING UP IN DIGNITY
WE'RE GONNA LIFT UP EVERY VOICE IN UNITY
LOOKING TO THE EAST, WE SEE THE MOTHERLAND
WE'LL RAISE OUR CONSCIOUSNESS
AND LEND A HELPING HAND
AFRICAN, ASIANS AND LATINOS TOO
THE ACTION NETWORK INCLUDES YOU
ONLY UNITED CAN WE MAKE A STAND
TALKIN' 'BOUT "A FAMILT IN UNITY"
IN OUR HEARTS, SOULS, BODIES AND IN MIND
FROM NORTH AND SOUTH, AND EAST AND WEST
WE'RE LIFTING UP OUR CONSCIOUSNESS
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE IT..IF WE TRY
TO OUR OFTEN ANGRY BROTHER
YOU'LL LEARN TO UNDERSTAND
THE MORE WE LOVE OURSELVES, THE LESS WE HATE
TO OUR STRUGGLING SISTER TOO
WE'D NEVER MAKE IT WITHOUT YOU.
OUR VOTE, WE MUST BEGIN TO APPRECIATE
TALKIN' 'BOUT A "FAMILY IN UNITY"
IN OUR HEARTS SOULS BODIES AND IN MIND
WE'RE LIFTING EV'RY VOICE AND SING
WE'RE GONNA MAKE OL' FREEDOM RING
FOR WE WILL REACH THE TOP IF WE JUST CLIMB
TO OUR EUROPEAN BROTHER
WE HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND
BECAUSE WE LOVE OURSELVES DON'T MEAN WE HATE
WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU AT OUR SIDE
IF YOU CAN KEEP UP STRIDE FOR STRIDE
'CAUSE NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR US TO WAIT!
TALKIN' 'BOUT A FAMILY IN UNITY...

I was looking for something else yesterday and “accidentally” came across this article. Know when you read the article you as well as I know I didn’t not come across this article by accident. Our Lord & Savior made sure I read this article to make everyone aware of what is going on. The world really and truly is going backwards and I always thought they said that because of the fads that always repeat themselves. Take a look for yourself:

IMMIGRATION RIGHTS GROUPS CLAIM POLICE CAPTAIN KIDNAPPED GUEST WORKERS
Just got this press release over the transom. These are pretty serious allegations. I'm not a believer in trying people via the Internet, but the charges certainly should be investigated to see if there is anything to them. I also know that MIRA and ACLU are groups that are serious and credible and not likely to trump up baseless allegations and I would imagine you'll be hearing more about this story.

This would be th counterpoint to Talk radio, the better bits of which do know what "svengali" is. Limbaugh and paul harvey both occaionally refer to themselves as such.

Yeah. It seems that in some parts of the US, foreign workers get the same treatment as those in Libya.

To all the Kanya West’s & 50 Cents of the world that seem to think record sales are the most important things going on in today’s world SHAME ON YOU! I continue to stress that our ancestors did not work as hard as they did for this. It seems to me that these people are working against us and for the INTELLEGENT GOVERNMENT by continuing to disgrace our once good name, the good name of minorities working together to get something better (there were even thousands of white people that died to provide something better for us minorities). But instead they continue to feed our children what is forbidden by our HEAVENLY FATHER, to BOAST is something that is deserving of eternal death according to the GOOD BOOK that has been watered down throughout the years.
Furthermore if you read the last bulletin I put up it is apparent to me the main reason our GOOD NAME continues to be tarnished by a select few; Michael Vick was in the news more times than the weather, O.J. Simpson has graced our headlines yet again and I’ve seen him more times than the weather. Why are minorities in the negative news lime-light all the time? I’ll tell you because they want the public to get a look at the “animals” (minorities) to have a good excuse to put us back in slavery, just as they are doing.
The corrupt minded person looking at the television at our women dancing across the stage half naked would say they deserve to be slaves. Or watching the news and see O.J. in the headlines again would say he deserves to be a slave. Or the Mexican that was in a car accident that killed three people would say they deserve to be slaves. But they keep their dirt HUSH, HUSH why because they don’t want the corrupt minded person to WAKE UP and say this happens in ALL RACES and the BIBLE says to forgive how many times? The Bible says we all are created equal. GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
What do you think would happen if the Mexicans that work for pennies doing jobs we refuse to do refuse to do them any longer?

Jasirix,
I heard your song on the Michael Baisden show last Thursday and all I can say is brilliant!! Just brilliant!! The message in the song was profound. It was very moving. You simply told the story of Jena 6 poetically. I actually had the opportunity to read other lyrics you have written. Your lyrical content is on a very high level. A level I have not heard or read in a while. It is a reminder that Hip Hop still has meaning and purpose. You are a true MC. We need more MCs like you. When I say MC I do not mean a Rapper. A MC is different from a Rapper. Both titles require skills but are quite different. A Rapper may mention how much money or material things they have. They may mention how they are out to cause harm to others. A MC on the other hand, is a conscious writer. He/She writes rhymes to teach or uplift people. The lyrics are delivered with a message. These are the artists that are rarely promoted by the industry. It reminds me of the words of the great legendary KRS-One.
“Rappers spit rhymes that are mostly illegal
MCs spit rhymes to uplift their people
Peace, love, unity, having fun
These are words of KRS-One.”
I wish you the best my brother and hope to hear more from you in the future.

Indians and Latin kids lock them up and pack them in
Crime pays so the DA will trap them in
It’s the new millennium slave trafficking
Call Weezy, Call Baby, Call BG, Call Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Call Master P

THANK YOU YOUNG MAN FOR EXPRESSING YOURSELF IN A POSITIVE WAY IN YOUR LYRICS. WE NEED MORE YOUNG ADULTS TO TAKE A STAND FOR POSITIVITY IN OUR MUSIC. GOD BLESS YOU:)

I too almost cried while listening to this song.I was taking a late lunch when I heard the interview with Michael and Steve Harvey, when Michael played the song.It tells the truth on so many different levels that it should be played nationwide until this cancer of racism is overturned.Unfortunately I can't attend the rally but my heart and soul will be there with each and everyone of you that goes.I also have one question to ask and it's not to put anyone on front street or make anyone angry but What has Oprah had to say about this incident?Has anyone heard from Montell or anyother black talkshow personality? I am just curious about that
