Hillary Clinton's Statement on the Jena Six
I am very worried about what has happened -- and what is happening -- in Jena, Louisiana. I do not condone violence of any kind, but this situation raises very serious questions of injustice and inequality. I am deeply concerned about reports of potentially disparate treatment of white youths and African-American youths in the criminal justice system. I am troubled by reports that African-American students were initially charged and may be sentenced in a manner out of proportion to their wrongs. And I have long been troubled by a history of disparate treatment of African Americans in our criminal justice system.
Situations like this one remind us that we all have a responsibility to confront racial injustice and intolerance. I urge the civil rights divisions of the Department of Justice and the Department of Education to thoroughly review these cases and the surrounding events to find out whether they raise federal civil rights violations.

Its sad to see that Senator Clinton took so long to say something about what's going in Jena, LA. Her husband's legacy shows us something different having created One America during his Presidency

That General Statement that she announced is some B.S .. You are right Micheal.. Urge! is the new word.. Please Define this.... Hilliary.. This had made me rethink my vote!
If she can't address this. she can't address other pressing issues in our country..!!

As i heard Michael read Hillary's statement it just seem as if she was trying to make it seem like she was just trying to say some thing to shut people up and have her name on a statement. I don't understand her statement and i need for her or someone in her camp to break it down for me. It still seems to me that she never stated how she could offer help or how she well show her support for the issue at hand.... almost like a smoking mirror.
I know where my vote is going...

I urge all in the African community to strongly view the action of Mrs. Clinton. We don't want a leader who is afraid to stand up when injustice is being done. I urge all voters to cast their votes for politicians who will support our community. If you don't stand for something then you must fall, and she will fall.
I will not be in Jena on 9/20/07, but I will be wearing black and spiritually supporting those on the frontline.

Does she even really know what has and is REALLY going on in Jena. Does she know the facts or is she just going off of a brief description of what was told to her. I wanna know if she has done her research on this issue?

Is it me or is this a generic and forced statement. It sounds to me that she is not familiar with this case and just gave us anything so we would stop ringing her phone.
I say we keep at her until she actually takes the time to review this case by getting off her butt and making some calls of her own.
I used to really admire her but I feel like she may have just shown Black America her true colors.

You know what I really enjoy the show, but sometimes we need to really monitor what we say and sometimes are actions. Hillary Clinton is not Bill Clinton she cannot address every issue that come across her path on the drop of a dime. The show asked for a reply and it may not be exactly what you wanted to hear, but she replied. Now, it's not good enough of a response. We all were happy when Bill Clinton was our president and we wished he could run again, but he cannot. Some have stated how she wasn't involved when Bill ran, well she wasn't the President, Bill was, she was an employed wife and mother, and still supported her husband regardless of the circumstances. WE NEED TO WAKE UP, we do not have much of a choice for president and she did choose OBAMA to run on her ticket. Has anyone else looked to give a black man an opportunity. BILL AND HILLARY ARE MARRIED They are one. I think they did well as Presidednt and first lady. People we need to think be for we speak.

I am listening to the show and I think that Michael et al is unfairly giving Hillary Clinton a hard time. Mr. Obama's camp sent a vague and broad statement that seemed obviously cookie cutter filled with catch words and phrases with not intended action.
Why are we not calling his office asking for more specific action similar to harping on the word "urge" from Mrs. Clinton's camp? Has Mr. Obama done anything other than respond to the show as opposed to putting something on his website like Mrs. Clinton?

This does not surprise me whatsoever. Black people,we have GOLDEN oppportunities to speak on ANY AND EVERYTHING that we are not truly happy with. When all of us decide to stick together and stop worrying about how things like our rights and our livelihoods can be affected, they have no choice but to listen and make things better. Believe you me, they cannot affect ALL OF US. Unfortunately, the battle will never be over and it is up to every living soul to fight on your souls until death.Hillary Clinton's Statement on the Jena Six

Are u serious??? When it comes to a situation like the Jena 6, we CANNOT accpet any ol statement and say Oh well, she responded, that's good enough. She does have a busy life. NO! If we had that type of attitude, we would accept anything that is thrown our way. If we held that type of attitude, we would be accepting what is happening in Jena 6. Having that type of attitude, accepting whatever someone gives us when we know we're not satisfied, situations like Jena 6 will continue.

Senator Clinton can urge all she wants, but is just trying to be politically correct. Attorney General Gonzales just resigned under the scrutiny regarding the 6 attorney's who were fired and working on the Discrimination WITHIN the Department of Justice.
Again I say it should be put up for a Vote in the next election - How many black people have been put in jail because this White Racist government refuses to Educate or Treat them fairly.
I would call in but cant get through so this is my two cents worth.

Mike is making something out of nothing with Hillarys response, what else do you all expect from a politician, and trying to draw a distinction between the words "call on" and "urge" All this is going to do is detract from the real issue and its credibility. Mike needs to be calling on some of these republicans instead of beating up on Hillary. I mean really is using the word URGE that big a deal.

We will all see who is who on Sept 20th...Celebrities, Political & Religious Leaders, Black, White, Chinese, Latin, etc…that day…we will see!

If you read the press releases on her page, you'll see she has made several statements over this past week, she has sent a few letters and statements (one directly to president bush) on issues she deems important like Iraq and Hispanic Heritage Month. She has done enough research in each statement to take an educational stand or to make an endorsement.
If she wasn't prepared to make a statement at this time she could have just said so then take a day or so to reveiw this and then reply . To treat us like bottom feeders when we are the driving force in her campaign shows where we will stand should she be elected.
She get's a paycheck for doing her job just like we do so make her work for that dollar.

I am not happy about the representative that spoke from the Hillary Clinton camp. It seems to me the only reason why we got a response was to make a request that the family (12 million) not tie up the phone lines (I made several attempts and continuously got a busy signal.) I think it is quite bogus they felt it necessary to have an African-American sister respond to us. Exactly what is that all about? I URGE everyone to read between the lines.

The statement is a general statement and not really addressing the issue. URGE! I want to believe that Hillary will address the concerns of the african american community and not just want our votes. I "URGE" the family to look at the candidates and VOTE on the president whom will meet our needs. It is "time out" from us putting individuals in office and once they're there our concerns are pushed to the side.

The statement sent by Senator Clinton clearly shows us that she will not stand for what is right, but sugarcoat the matter with that bureaucratic hoopla. What did she say? Nothing! She is basically talking out the side of her neck. Someone on her staff wrote this statement and tried to pris it up with a little "I'm concerned", but more concerned about what happens to the white children. See the problem I have with her statement is that she purposely mentioned the white children first. Which gives me the impression that she is not concerned about our children. Since our request for a statement was specifically about the Jena6 boys (black boys), then I think that she should have addressed that first and then the unjustice for all (black, white, brown, yellow, etc.) whatever. She made the distinction between the black and white children first by separating them. Then said nothing short of "It's not my children or my problem", but we'll see what we can do. She only responded because she was being made to look really bad for not responding. And this is all she could come up with? My mom always said, "If you don't have anything good to say, then say nothing at all". She should have just kept her mouth closed.

thank you, for making sense of this, now before somebody labels us hillary lovers, i actually think hillary is going to leave us black folk hanging but at the same time you gotta look at this objectively, ALL the boys did something they shouldnt have, black and white, the issue is the administering of justice and discipline, all week i've heard this aint about race but i'll be damned if we aint trying to make it that by comparing obama vs. hillary. She made a statement about a situation that involves high school boys fighting, not about about lynching or church bombing. Yesterday mike had the nerve to say its worse now than it was in the 50's and 60's and that is some fraginackle bull meant to sensationalize an already sensational occurence.
ps as far as them having a sister call, do we really think that hillary is that stupid, and couldnt it be possible that she, without any direction from hillary called on her own because she listens to the show, she didnt sound articulate nor prepared as a spokesperson should.

Sen. Clinton's response is such a safe "cookie cutter" response that is used to address the immediate concern of a specific population without alienating those with opposing views. I find it sad that she and her "camp" waited so long to issue a statement - but then again, it's not the Sunday before the Presidential election.

u know good and well she don't care. I am glad u put her on blast. The Bible said u will know them by their fruits. As they said in cards "she showed her hand". whike u all are wasting your time and money trying to catch up with Hillary call Juanita Bynum and Paula White, Eddie Long Creflo Dollar, Pastor Manning, Pastor Tony Smith. Juanita is milking the press and say she has now a ministry that focus on domestic violence. Come on she is just as full of it as the day is long. Juanita Bynum is trying to attatch herself to Oprah to become large. Watch what I tell u. These preachers r of false doctrines and have no interest or love for the people. They have been "turned out"by the devil a long time ago. Yes I know of the book Snakes in the Pulpit. Armsrong has been to Jena Louisiana really putting inthe work also. But these crooks in the pulpit local and abroad; smal and mega are nothing but money. they depend on the people for ther paychecks. U have some preachers from La that say they haven't even heard of Jena 6. What is also a shame is the radio stations not advertising this. Yeah it may not have money attatched but the radio is supposed to be for the people. thepeople station" what a joke.

I am not saying that Michael is making something out of nothing, but I somewhat agree with this member, in that, Hillary is a politician whom I am sure is not sitting by the radio or riding in her car listening to the radio to hear that a response is expected of her. Actually, I think she did pretty good just by responding or issuing a statement, whether it was directly or indirectly issued by her. We cannot expect her to say much more than what was stated. Did you notice how her statement began? She began by stating that she does not condone violence of any kind. She has to respond to the fact that violence did occur. I really regret that the outcome of this situation thusfar began with what appears to be racial injustice and turned into physical violence, regardless of who initiated the physical violence. Racial pain hurts. Physical violence hurts. We just keep hurting one another, but let us be fair about our democratic candidates. At least we know that we are cared about by them, but we must also remember that perhaps now is the time to see how much our republican candidates care about us. They always seem to get away without having to respond because we do not call on them. Let's stop giving them a free ride. Let's call them out a little bit. It is like the record that was just playing says, HILLARY AND BARACK HAVE WORK TO DO...didn't mean to shout :-) but let us let them do the work. By the way, I think Hillary and Barack would make the perfect pair for the white house. I think they should both run a clean campaign for the democratic nomination. Regardless of which of the two wins the nomination, the winner should pick the other for their vice-president. Imagine what a great potential that would be. We could possibly have the next 16 years in the white house with a democrat as a sure thing, unless of course they do not live up to the expectations of the people. It is real easy to figure out, so let's stop hurting one another. Barack and Hillary are both very busy individuals who at least took the time to respond, no matter how much time it took to do so. I like them both, and I have faith that with all the facts, both of them will do the right thing, or make the right statements about the Jena 6 situation. By the way, I am also from Louisiana and I love my home, albeit problems do exist; and if many had their way, we would be back in the days of the 60's when racial inequality ran so rampant. Racism never really stopped anywhere that it ever existed, and please do not be fooled by thinking that it did; just know that it only became much more subtle...Peace!
I felt that I should reiterate the fact that I am in no way criticizing Michael Baisden, because he has done a terrific job of raising the awareness of the Jena 6 situation. You see, in Louisiana, without people like Michael Baisden, his commitment, and the power of that microphone, those boys may not have felt the noose of that rope that was hung in that tree, but they would surely feel the noose of the technical lynching that was, AND MAY STILL BE in store for them, because that's the way they do things down here. The politics of Louisiana are sometimes deplorable. We have laws that do not exist anywhere else in the nation. How's that for standing out? And on top of that, lawyers from Louisiana and many other states WILL NOT go up against the state in litigation, even when they know the state is liable. Down here you have to know how to protect yourself, and that is with knowledge and the courage to stand up for yourself; and by all means, do not break the law!

Why have we not contacted all of the presidential candidates to get their position on the issues in America. It is unfair to put Obama and Clinton on the spot without pinning all candidates up against the wall for the record as to what type of America and Justice System we can expect going forward. We might learn something and / or gain traction in addressing more issues and acheiving more desired results. Bill Clinton did a lot for all Americans and he was fair to Black Americans. Put the Republicans to the task to see if they will respond at all so that we can document their position. Maybe some of the black republicans will open their eyes and realize that we need a renewed commitment to LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

I strongly believe that the statement given by Hillary Clinton was just that a "Statement," I feel like we are placing to much power in the governments hands and it is our job to do something about it. How do we do something? By speaking out and taken action towards such in justices like Jena 6. We do have a choice in life there are choices whether you like them is not the question but for every action there is a consequence. The problem with our society is that we base our actions on "Fleshly Needs," ladies and gentlemen we have a purpose in life and if this doesn't WAKE YOU UP then what will?

While I am disappointed with Gov. Blanco’s response to the Jena 6 situation as well as what she’s done with the Katrina situation, the caller from New Orleans said that Gov Blanco is running. I just wanted to let you know she is not running for re-election.

Just like you have been putting out there for weeks Michael, here in Louisiana there has been no news coverage up until now about Jena. As Louisiana goes, central to north Louisiana is still a stronghold for racism. For instance, one major high school, West Monore, are called the rebels and they sport the Confederate Flag as their logo. The city where I was born, Alexandria, is still pretty much segregated. So, this issue being swept under the rug in Louisiana as a whole is just Good Ole Boy, Cajun Country justice.

Well as for the statement that was put out there by Hillary, I do believe that it was not enough. Obama's statement made you feel like he cared. It was fluff. I don't think that it was wrong for people to call. It is time that we hold our leaders responsible. But I don't know if anyone else caught on to it.. and I do want to refrain to make this a racial thing... but i did find it funny that the person that called the station back sounded like a person of color..... Why couldn't the scared intern say something... i found that funny.
Also does anyone know if any of the black magazines made any comments about all of this? If they haven't that is sad.

Not Did we! But when will we contact all Presidential Candicates?

When I Heard You Read Her Statement On Your Show I Was Not Surprised By The Statement Released From Mrs. Clinton Today. I Called Yesterday For An Hour And Could Not Get Through. I Also Called Today When Instructed To Do So To Aask Her What Was The Definition Of Urge Meant Concerning The Jena Six . Of Course I Think They Took The Phones Off The Hook While You Were On Air Discussing It Because I Was Again Not Able To Get Through. I Will However Write Her An Email!!!
Mrs. Clinton Does Not Want To Say Something That May Potentially Get Her In Trouble With Her White Backers In The Near Future. I Am Sure After It Is All Done And Over With She Will Have More Indepth Things To Say. The Bottom Line Is She Doesn't Care!!!!

Uhm.. You are probably right. She could have responded to this sooner than she has. I did not say Hillary was not involved when Bill was President, she held her roles as a business woman, mother and wife. She allowed her husband to be on the forefront of HIS position as president and was by his side as the first lady, regardless as of the circumstances. But she had her own identity and was involved in healthcare issues etc. She was first lady not vice president. She has learned alot from her husbands position. But I am so happy that we as blacks are taking an interest and action in unequal justice to make a difference. That is why we cannot count on the white house, legislative offices to make the difference. Are numbers outside the whitehouse and any legislative office out weigh the numbers inside. So learn from this.. if others people's rejection makes us come together to make a difference than so be it!

I think we should contact the Republicans and All Presidential Candidates.
The thing is a lot of people are "out of Touch" they don't know what even going on half the time in their own homes.
What a shame on us if we dont at least ASK them what they think or for their Help. Who knows Miracles can happen....

I have wanted to join Mingle City on many occasions, but never did. Jena 6 has compelled me to do so. I am Haitian-American and I know too well what injustice is all about. I know what it looks like, feels like, even smell like. As immigrants, we don't take our right to justice for granted. Contrary to popular belief, most immigrants do not come here because of hunger(yes that plays a big role in many cases). However Unequal Justice, outright injustice is the main reason that many of us risk our lives to get to America. Injustice is the cause for poverty in underdeveloped countries, such as Haiti. We cannot move freely about our own land to pursue health, wealth, and happiness. We can't march without fearing that we will be killed or incarcerated in some atrocious jail. So I say to all of my American brothers and sisters, black, white, latino, asian, native american, MARCH for EQUAL JUSTICE. Without equal justice, we cannot pursue the American dream. We will have the feet of those who claim power as only theirs on our necks. Our breath will be taken away.

Was it just me, or did I hear Hillary's representative who called the show today 9/13/07, say right at the end, that Micheal can tell his listeners to stop calling because Hillary had given her (watered down) response. I tried to call Hillary Clintons officce yesterday, but was unsucessful. This morning, when I did get through, I was asked if I was calling about the Jena 6 before I even had a chance to state the reason for my call. I was told quickly to go to Hillary's web page to see her response. When I read Hillary's response, before today's show, I felt it was too short, watered down, too late and just another politial statement. Hillary was quick to borrow our saying that "It takes a whole village to raise a child". Well, the Jena 6 are all of our children, and I am proud to be a part of the village. What happened to Hillary? I really thought she had possibilities. If she takes her time in responding to 6 students (children) and a noose (racism), then how will she respond to the African-American community? Empathy is one thing. Taking the bull by the horns is another.

I had not decided who I would support in the upcoming election based upon the results of debates along with where each candidate stood on issued that are important to me and people who look like me. Hilliary Clinton sealed the deal as far as I am concerned with her statement concerning Jena 6. Her statement was nothing more than "Fluff". She really didn't take a stand on anything. She is a lawyer. I would think that she would have at least said something definitive. Her response was too long coming showing me that neither she nor anyone in her camp listens to what people of color listen to, and certainly they didn't think enough of black people to respond to issues that concern us. Sorry Hil, since you can't back me, I can't back you!

Does she even really know what has and is REALLY going on in Jena. Does she know the facts or is she just going off of a brief description of what was told to her. I wanna know if she has done her research on this issue?
When I heard the statement on the show today, I immediately felt like she really didn't have a clue. To me, it was an attempt at getting out something so that Mike and the other 12 million of us would leave her camp alone and stop tying up her phone lines. The statement was impersonal and vague. It had nothing specific to do with her thoughts on Jena 6 but rather a broad-brush, canned anti-injustice comment.

Sen. Clinton responded...that is what was asked of her. Don't pull her response apart. Let it go…you put it out there – it’s on her now.
We will all see who is who on Sept 20th...Celebrities, Political & Religious Leaders, Black, White, Chinese, Latin, etc…that day…we will see!
I will say - I thought it was interesting they had an African American Woman call back to the show...do u think that was a coincidence? Not!!
Talk without action doesn't mean a thang. Like Ms. Elaine said, we'll see who's who come Sept. 20th, celebrities, democrats, republicans, church leaders, America. If you really think about it America will be on BLAST on 9/20/07.

I see a lot of people ripping Hilary's statement apart and criticizing her and saying she needs to take action. Shouldn't we actually wait to see if she does something instead of assuming that she won't? Her...whatever she was...said that Hilary would like to be on Michael's show. At least then we'll get to hear her side of things and by then, she'll probably be more prepared and ready to discuss what she wants to do where this situation is concerned. Who knows, maybe she'll head down to Jena on September 20. I just feel that most here are judging her too harshly and unfairly. At least she gave some type of a response, just as Obama did.

I agree with ToneSolo to stop making an issue with Hillary unless he, Mike B., also takes the time to contact the Republican Candidates for the presidency. Get Rudy's, John's, Mitt's & the Actor Thompson's response on this issue. Their party is telling us that they are the party of Lincoln so let them respond to a problem that deeply concerns our community, like Lincoln did. Back off of Hillary, she is a good woman and if Obama doesn't get the opportunity to represent then surely Hillary will!

What is wrong with america, these young men and their ancestors have dealt with abuse for centuries, when do they finally get justice. Look at the incident with the black girl and the white male and his family assaulting her and locking her up for a week. Where is her justice. But they are willing to take away these young men lives for something that goes on everyday in junior high and high schools today. It shouldn't have gotten up to this for people to speak out about these young men injustice. It's sad to say but our world have not changed, so basically Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Harriett Tubman and many others stood up for our freedom for no reason. Where is this going?? Mr. Baisden my hat off to you and the many others that are willing to stand up for these men and thier families. What if it was black on black crime or white on white crime we wouldn't even be here and let it have been in an inner city they still wouldn't care. Grow up people..:p

So that they will Know,
You are there beside them Each and Every step,
In this Battles for Justice and Righteousness,
That dawns on Their Horizon.
Let every Man come Together
Raise your Voice and Stand.

A mighty Weapon indeed,
Raise your Voice and be Heard; no one hears the mute.
Raise your Voice for Righteousness,
Raise your Voice for Justice,
Raise your Voice for Freedom,
Raise your Voice for the Children,
And Raise it for Our Nation.
Who will step Forward to lead the Wounded and Weary Ones,
Who has their hope in You?
Who will share the Load for the Battle that is at Hand?
Will we stand and Fight as One
Or shall we scatter and fall?
From the porch and the housetop,
Shout the News that Threaten All.
On the Streets and on your Job use Your Voice,

I just finished reading Senator Hillary Clinton's statement on the JENA SIX situation and I am not impressed at all. Everyone must understand that she is a politician first and everything else second. Barack Obama is now officially in the fight with everyone else that knows this is wrong, but Hillary is just "riding the fence". Hillary is probably a good person, but SIX BLACK TEENAGERS in jail down in the deep south is not a priority. I would love to hear what she has to say regarding the JENA SIX when she is on the show. I really want people from all walks of life that are reading this thread to ask themselves a question....WHERE ARE ALL THE ENTERTAINERS, ACTORS, ACTRESSES, HIP HOP ARTIST AND CELEBRITIES VIEWS ON THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION. Oh I almost forgot....they don't give a damn. CHURRRRCH!!!!!
P.S. Everyone on the Michael Baisedon radio program please keep up the good work.

Now if WE had a better track record when it came to showing up at the polls the situation could very well be different...

SHE URGES THE JUSTICE DEPT AND DEPT OF EDUCATION. BUT WHAT ABOUT YOU MS CLINTON GOING DOWN THERE YOURSELF. AND TAKING ACTION. POLITICIANS TO ME CAN TALK THE TALK BUT WHEN IT COMES TO WALKING THE WALK. THEY ARE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND.
NO MS CLINTON I SUGGEST YOU TAKE TIME OUT AND LET US KNOW YOUR MORE THEN JUST MERE WORDS. SHOW US YOUR ACTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES AS A MOTHER AND PUT YOURSELF IN THE SHOES OF THOSE PARENTS. AND WALK THE WALK THAT YOU SO SPEAK ABOUT.:p

I do not care if they walked up to Hilary on the street, This has been all over the news and anyone in their right mind knows injustice when you see it. So Hillary has to stand for right or wrong. In this issue there is not a middle ground. No she is not Bill, but if she is running for president and she see injustice being done then speak on it. do not urge people to do anything. Tell the Truth, let people know that no matter what the circumstance you stand for truth and Justice for ALL. And sadly from her statement she really did not impress me with her response, Obama you have my vote, Hillary you lost it. No we did not like her response we wanted her to stand up for those young men, we wanted her to say what is being done is wrong, and that all those involved in this lynching should be fired.

I really think alot of people are being too hard on what Hillary had to say. I'd like to ask what you think she should have said? Barrack and Hillary are both running for President and neither can afford to go out on a limb other than to say that justice in this country needs to be doled out equitably and that enough is enough with injustice towards the African Americans in our country and we should be outraged.
I also honestly wish that Mychal Bell did not have a criminal record prior to this incident. This is his 5th charge in a little under 2 years; all violent and within his own community.
What else could she say? Six teens beat up on one -- it was wrong. The beating certainly did not justify a felony but they do deserve punishment; albeit a misdemeanor. Hopefully this movement will get those charges reduced to a misdemeanor and bring the utmost attention to what we have endured in this country and know that it does not just happen in small towns in the south. The white boys that hung those nooses should have been expelled and should be charged with a hate crime too.
As a parent, if six white guys had attacked my son I'd obviously want them punished no matter what the reason was. Just being honest.

Hillary never answers anything that is addressed. I personally have dropped off documents at her office about issues concerning our people and she has never contacted me in any way shape or form and the same for Senator Schumer. What has never been talked about is the fact is reckless endangerment and assault of the White perps. Assault is the infliction of fear. At this point the defendants has the right to protect their person, property or effects. A criminal when committing a crime has to expect to receive bodily harm up to and including death. This is the law. When a administrator of law violates the law then they have to expect the people to rise up and challenge the system and that particular institution can have their charter abrogated due to the incompetency of administering government. (dissolved) The problem is that we do not attempt to discover law and information like this is always ignored.
Most def studies the same science that I do and we follow the same creed and if you people don't wake up and change your status at law, this will happen again.

I am sick and tired of hearing how shocked and disgusted all black people should be with the racism in the Jena six case. We should be more shocked a disgusted with the other issues that this situation raises. Yes, there are signs of racism in this case; however, if the minglecity "faqs" about the case are true then the parents of these boys share a portion of the blame for how this all turned out! When these kids told them about the "white tree" there should have been a parade of parents at the school to get some answers. When the young man was attacked at a party there should have been another round of questioning and police reports. When the shotgun was pulled on the boys again there should have been outrage and protest by the black community in Jena. If the parents had stepped up earlier this situation may have been avoided. The school, the police, the attorneys, and the students all share responsibility for this incident. That includes are color of people that make up these groups. I think we are making a mistake by focusing only on one aspect of this horrible situation. Also, it doesn't matter who threw the first punch! Six individuals beat up one guy. They should be punished because they were wrong. I am not saying prison sentences but some type of punishment is appropriate.

All these big time preachers where are they.Thats the question? of the day, I really wants to know.
Racism is committed by all races not just white people. We have white, black hispanic, asian racist. We as individuals of all races must step up and teach what we preach talk the talk and walk the walk.We must teach our youths that a small group of racist of one race does not mean that everybody of that race is a racist.I hope that message is being taught by all parents to these young kids and if it isnt all this tragedy has done has widened the race relation gap of all races. We are not going to get better as a nation if we dont learn to love and respect all people of all races until they disrespect you.

It is easy for anyone not living in that environment to say what people should have done. The fact is when you live in fear due to intimidation tactics by local law enforcement and you have no voice what are you to do; No income, No education...living in poverty. I will tell you I have been through those parts while in the military up near Alexandra and even we (Soldiers) had to be careful not to go out at night.
In fact one night we where training in what the Army calls the box and someone was burning a cross...you want to see a city kid get out of dodge quick; you have no idea.
I also went down for Katrina for over 30 days, where it was once again clear that these people have been neglected and abandoned by the government. If you want to make a difference don’t wait on some politician with their hidden agendas.

Athena, I agree with you. Let me say this first, my afro-amer 9th grade brother, has a criminal record, messed around with gangs and is now trying to do right and not get in trouble. He was completely unaware of this issue, however when I told him, that 6 white kids jumped on a black guy in school, and that they were trying to charge them with attempted murder, my brother replied "THAT IS ATTEMPTED MURDER". He said think about it, if 6 people jumped on 1 person they WERE trying to kill him." All I can say is this comes from a person who has been jumped before, and who has got in the middle when others were being "jumped" and who has also probably "jumped" others ( can't proove it but probably) And like she said, if 6 kids of ANY race jumped my brother, I would want them prosecuted too, but PRISON, well that is bizerk..
With that said, I honestly, truly believe that essentially Barack and Hillary gave the same canned responses. I like both of the responses, but like someone said earlier, do you REALLY think either of them were listening to Mike B from 3-7. They both had statements created. Who created the term PC ( politically correct)? Politicians of course,.They both must be POLITICALLY CORRECT. The only difference here is that Barack has some "black cousins" that probably heard the show and called him IMMED.. where as HER cousins were playing Brittney Spears :-) .. I LOVE WHAT MIKE IS DOING, I have booked a trip to Jena, however i do feel MIKE AND THE mingle city crowd are being harder on Mrs. Clinton because well " she is white".. What would have happened if Hillary had responded before Barack? Humhhhh..Sorry had to say it. AND I AM voting for Obama no matter what!

Dfinelady, When did Hillary receive the Democratic nomination and how could she have added Obama to her ticket?? Do you know something that no one else knows? Blacks were bamboozled by Bill, but I won't go into that now.
It does not sound as though Hillary was well versed on the situation in Jena. I don't think she made a direct reference to the nooses the way Obama did. How long would it have taken for her staff to do some research. They want the black vote, but they don't want to work for it. It's taken for granted. That's another story though.

Yeah, whatever Hilary. I would have expected a more considerable response than that. Brothas and sistas, when are we going to realize that it is truly "us vs. them". What are we afraid of as a race today? We stand for nothing, but so quick to say what we need to do, and so forth. It's time.....................time to do what our people did in the 60's and 70's................we need more love amongst ourselves. Let's do it family..............it's time, it's just time.

And for the record, can we stop saying"we need to", and just "do"??? What are we truly afraid of? How come we don't have the "urge" to fight for ourselves the way we used to? What happened to us? Why can't we rally from state to state in the streets on this issue, like the hispanics did on immigration...............there's always strength in numbers.

When I read Obama's statement, it was heart felt. I truely believed him. But (as much as I love the Clintons), I wasn't moved at all by her statement. I agree with Tyra 78, it seemed as if she just needed to respond to this, but the words were empty. She just had to respond because anyone can see that this is going to make history. Because she is aware that the elections are fast approaching, she knew better than not to respond. Honestly, as a women, I was going to vote for Hil. But now, "I'm good on her." Her true colors reflected in that pitiful excuse for a response to a serious case. Not only am I going to vote for Obama, I am going to get as many people as I can and personally drive them to the poles to vote for a real leader.....Future President Obama.
I have been following this story, and it is killing me inside. I have taken several college coarses in African American History, and I have traveled to West Africa and attended classes there concerning our history.......this story is hitting on so many subjects that I have learned about our struggle. I am Jena six too.

You've just said in a nutshell, You stand for nothing and you've been falling for everything. Your voice is your RIGHT to be heard..

I couldn't agree more with your last statement. Finally, a voice of reason amidst a slew of people eager to find fault with Senator Clinton. All need to be reminded that she's not yet the President, nor does she have any other authority to force anyone from the Justice Department or other branches of the federal government to do anything. All she can do is strongly "urge" them to action in the hope that with the combined pressure from many, something will finally be done. Until then, her released statement expresses exactly how she feels about disparate treatment, and the history thereof. Going on the record in this way is in itself a testament to her courage inasmuch as she is sure to alienate some white votes who-- like some of the others who've responded to this forum-- are criticizing her for taking a side in this issue (Some of them are saying the opposite of some of the African-American bloggers, "Her comments were too strong about a case that she doesn't have all of the court-related evidence on"). It appears that she "can't win for losing", as the old expression goes.
I wouldn't expect anything more from anyone running for office who needs the votes of white and African-Americans alike to eventually be placed in office and truly effect favorable change for the minority communities for whom she has an established record of being sensitive to. In addition to that, her husband will then be re-empowered to continue his legacy of addressing our community's needs. Think things through carefully before you react!

You are right Hillary is not Bill, but Mychal Bell has been in jail since December 2006 for a school fight. I believe immediate attention should have been taken. She has plenty of interns who could have done the research long ago. I wrote Hillary and Barack a letter a month ago regarding Jena Six and I am sure I was not the only one. Trust and believe the story crossed their desk before we tried to catch their attention.
Personally, I think Hillary could have given a better statement. We have to stop accepting what ever is handed out. It is time for all Americans to take our county back. We have allowed the government to run our lives far too long now. Let us remember we pay taxes and if we don’t trust and believe they do not wait to prosecute you for it.
Let’s get back to basics… we have to get our priorities straight. The children are our future. Not such the ones who live in your home.

WHAT HILARY CLINTON OR any other person of no color has to say is very irrelevant at this time. when will we understand that we can stop looking for approval from them or help from them in this century!!! IN ORDER TO GET RESPECT, WE MUST GIVE IT . TO OURSELVES. WE ALSO NEED TO KNOW WHAT MAKES THEM TICK IN ORDER TO GAIN CONTROL FOR ONCE. THEY WORSHIP MONEY, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. TAKE AWAY THIER MONEY AND THEY PANIC . STOP GOING IN THIER STORES. RICH BROTHERS AND SISTERS, HELP YOUR OWN GET THE SAME BUSINESSES SO THAT WE HAVE A COLORFUL CHOICE AS TO WHERE WE SPEND OUR MONEY. OUR PEOPLE MAKE UP A VERY LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THIER REVENUE. ALSO, WHEN YOU BROTHERS AND SISTERS DO GET INTO BUSINESS, DO NOT BE GREEDY AND RUDE, DO NOT THINK THAT SINCE WE NEED YOUR PRODUCTS, THAT YOU SHOULD ACT LIKE WE DO. THAT IS WHY PEOPLE (OUR PEOPLE) GO TO MR.CHARLIE AND THEN BLACK BUSINESSES CLOSE. TREAT YOUR PEOPLE WITH RESPECT. WHEN YOU GO INTO THIER STORE, THEY ARE FRIENDLY AS HECK, BUT YOU KNOW THEY HATE YOUR RACE, WHY IS THAT? MONEY. TAKE A LESSON. AND IT WILL BECOME CONTAGIOUS. ONCE SELF RESPECT IS ESTABLISHED, THEN UNITY FOLLOWS, ONCE UNITY IS ESTABLISHED THEN THE OTHERS WILL THEN SEE TRUE POWER BEGIN TO DEVELOPE AND THINK TWICE ABOUT MESSING WITH US AS A PEOPLE. ALL YOU CHINESE, MEXICANS, PUERTO RICANS, JAPANESE, INDIANS GUESS WHAT, YOU WILL NEED TO ACCEPT THAT YOU ARE PEOPLE OF COLOR. YELLOW, BROWN, TAN, RED, OLIVE YOU ARE PEOPLE OF COLOR AND I GUARANTEE THIS, WHEN THEY FINISH WITH US YOU ARE NEXT. IT HAS ALREADY BEGUN. THEY HAVE CENTERED ON INDIANS AND MEXICANS BECAUSE THEY LOOK ALIKE. NOW , GET A MENTAL PICTURE OF THIS, IF ALL OR MOST PEOPLE OF COLOR STOOD SIDE BY SIDE WITH EACH OTHER ON SUBLIMINAL RACIAL ISSUES AND MAJOR RACIAL ISSUES, WHO THEN WOULD BECOME THE TRUE MINORITY? SO, LET'S GET A CONGRESSIONAL INTERVENTION USING OUR UNITED NUMBERS TO SHOW JUST WHO THEY REALLY WORK FOR AND GET THINGS MOVING. AFTERWARDS , HELP OUR BROTHERS IN MEXICAO, INDIA, AND OTHER PLACES UNITE AS ONE PEOPLE. BUT FIRST BREAK THE SLAVE CHAIN OF IGNORANCE (LOOK UP WORD BEFORE YOU GET OFFENDED, PLEASE) THATS THE FIRST STEP. LADIES, FORGET ABOUT THE ATTITUDES AGAINST YOUR SISTERS. IF SOMEONE THINKS THEY ARE CUTE, THAT THOUGHT IS PERSONAL TO THEM, BE A SISTER AND ACCEPT IT. WHAT DOES YOUR MIRROR TELL YOU? BROTHERS, THE BIG KAHOONA IS EACH MAN IN HIS OWN HOME, STOP FIGHTING AMONGST YOURSELVES AND FOCUS ON THE REAL ENEMY, SELF HATRED BRED INTO US BY YEARS OF MENTAL OPPRESSION. ONCE YOU ADMIT YOU SUFFER FROM THESE THINGS, THAT CHAIN WILL BE BROKEN. THE HARDEST THING IN THE WORLD TO DO IS ADMIT YOUR SHORT COMINGS. I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS ONE OF THOSE WOMEN, WHO REACTED WHEN ANOTHER WOMAN CAME INTO THE ROOM AND I FELT SHE WAS PRETTIER THAN MYSELF OR DRESSED BETTER THAN ME. I HAD TO ASK MYSELF WHY DO I FEEL THIS NEGATIVITY AGAINST HER. THE ANSWER WAS, I WAS JEALOUS. ONCE I BEGAN TO QUESTION MYSELF ON THE NEGATIVE FEELINGS THAT WELLED UP INSIDE WHENEVER I CAME IN CONTACT WITH A SISTER, I BEGAN TO HEAL AND BREAK CHAINS. IT WAS SCARY AT FIRST, BUT I DID IT AND IT NEVER STOPS. TAKE A LESSON, USE YOUR MIND INSTEAD OF YOUR HEART. DON'T BE AFRAID TO QUESTION YOU. BE HONEST WITH YOU. ONLY THEN CAN YOU HAVE HONESTY WITH OTHERS. AND POWER.

Unfortunately, I read Hillary's statement before I listened to the show. I also feel that her response was given to free up her telephone lines. I think our dissappointment in Hillary is because she has "inferred" that she understands legal justice, children, and equality. Several responses indicate that she is a politician. I personally am fed up with politicians aka liars, aka deceivers, hypercrites, aka thieves, aka murderes, who send the less fortunate and minorities to fight their "monitary wars". I want to vote for a person who cares about all people and all justice. If you look at the history of the world, when a countries legal system fails, the country will fail.

Speaking of which, where is the statement from the country's "so Called" first black president?? When you have something this important going on you dont wait over two days to say something. Senator Obama had it on point. A statement in under an hour. Thats what I'm talking about.
White democrats are showing you right now what they truly feel about BLACK ISSUES. The silence should say it all to you..
I realize that Sen. Clinton's statement is not that great, but neither was Sen. Obama. I don't see where he is doing anything more than just "monitoring" the situation. Don't just get upset with Clinton...Obama didn't do much better.
Here you go.... An example of prejustice! Because MRs.Clinton's words are "white" then they are a lie? Obama's Words are "black" so they are the truth? Do you not stand up for what your fighting for?

As i heard Michael read Hillary's statement it just seem as if she was trying to make it seem like she was just trying to say some thing to shut people up and have her name on a statement. I don't understand her statement and i need for her or someone in her camp to break it down for me. It still seems to me that she never stated how she could offer help or how she well show her support for the issue at hand.... almost like a smoking mirror.
I know where my vote is going...
You put it down because I read a few of her sentences and was boggled in the head. I knew it would be more interesting to read WHAT everyone else thought about her allegory comments.

Please do not include me in the "12 million votes" that Ms. Clinton has just lost. I have not decided yet. As I said earlier, where is the outrage about Mr. Obama's blanket statement? Why are we not bombarding his interns or representatives to get him to take a stronger stand? Again, will he be in Jena, LA on 9/20?
Everyone is yelling Obama in '08, when you could be supporting the man now. How many of you have sent a campaign contribution to him? Imagine just how much harder it must be for him to raise funds than the other candidates to simply call their friends and ask for a drop in the bucket?
Better yet, for those that are yelling Obama in '08, do you know what he stands for? Are you assuming that because he is black that he has your back? What is his platform? Are you just curious to see how far the Black man can get? Trust me, I believe the Republicans have been sending more campaign dollars to support him than any of you put together. With him as the opponent, White America will surely swoop down in a white wave to make sure that the status quo stays the same?
How many of you are getting out the Black vote, making sure that our men stay out of jail, giving them jobs so that we will have one more vote on election day? Trust and believe, that on that day, if there is a major football game, a special at Popeyes, a free club entry fee or better yet, the lines are too long at the polls, our "12 million strong" will dwindle to 12 people who cared. If I hear one more Obama in '08 with no action on '07 or no one takes him to task about his general statement on the Jena Six, I think I will scream!

Please look at Hilary Clinton's website and note that she is marching in the African-American Parede on Sunday in Harlem! O.K. New York. Be peaceful and prayerful, but let her see your faces in a group of solidarity. We need all the support we can get for the 20th. Yes, even those who are often slow to give us their support.

Mr. Wilborn, as a former viewer of CNN HEADLINE news, I must agree with you. What a shame and smack in the face it is to have such a well know news station to report on the Jena 6 matter only 5 times from July 1 to Sept 5. and the Vick matter more than 50 times. Black America wake up, smell the coffee, because we difinitely ain't smelling the roses.

This is crazy. and it so left field, that it makes me sick to even be in this country. I think that if Hillary Clinton is bailing on us now, with an issue as serious as this one she will bail on us if she were to get into office. That makes me feel really good to know that she was only out for our votes, and not our safety, and voice as a people.

Thank you Blackman7 for your comment! The problem isn't that we haven't recieved the 40 acres and a mule it is the fact that some of us are still looking for it and feel entitled to it. That is one of the major problems inside the black community we have a great number of us that feel it is not our responsibilty to help ourselves but to be saved by some other person. We need to be more self-reliant. Also, lets stop relating these boys to innocent black people who were fighting for equality and lost their lives. These are not freedom fighters and they are not completely innnocent. They are in a horrible situation that they arrived in largely because they weren't taught to control their actions and now we are overlooking those action. They should be punished for the attack. Too many of us are blinded by one aspect of a tragic situation.

You need to breathe, have a cup of tea and get it together. First of all stop condemning people and start complimenting them for "BEGINNING" to get involved. "BE POSITIVE" Because all you did is make people roll their eye in move to the next post with all you negativity. Don't you know every run starts with a single step? Because of these message boards and the half ____ blanket statement it is adding fuel to the fire for each candidate. Why don't you go do something useful like getting deputized and seeing if you can get some people to vote if "YOU" are so concerned about what we are doing.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP IN ALL THE ARENAS YOU MENTIONED?

I breathe every day and I only drink water! If my truth is "negativity" then so be it. Whenever the next big news break happens, we all say "it has to end now" then it wears off. We have been stepping for more than 100 years now, all over the issues. I am not interested in getting deputized but I do get out the vote, each and every day!
Now you asked what have I done?
I stay abreast of all of the candidates and their opinions and views on things that matter to me and my family. For instance, THE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT! Do you know either candidates' opinion on this act? Do you know that it effects the future of our county "our youth"? Will you only be satisfied that the candidates comment on one incident when hundreds are in jail unjustly?
I am active in not only the national race, but the local races in my area that will immediately effect me and mine. I am a proud democratic supporter with my money and my time.
Moreover, I am involved heavily in education. I know that to save this country, we have to start with the youth. I support the PTA, nationally and locally and work tirelessly to convince parents that parental involvment is the key to keeping our kids out of a "Jena Six" scenario. Again, my money and actions go hand in hand.
I am writing the 3 Republican candidates that refuse to attend Tavis Smiley's debate at Morgan State.
I sent my "negative" email because I am one of the few that is together and waiting for the rest to catch up! I am not one of the "12 million" that will cast my vote based on Jena Six but on what the candidate's records says for that person.
Now, ask yourself, what are you doing? What is anyone doing other than talking? If each ONE does thier part, then we would not still be stepping! We would be running and jumping! The Hispanic community is together in thier fight for immigration reform. The white community is together when they need to be, get out of this chat room and go help a child improve their test scores so that their public school won't loose funding, or that another male teacher won't look like an oddity because he is not getting his hustle on!!!!!!!

You need to urge yourself to view whats going on in Jena. If you are not going to Jean y even talk about it. I don't even believe hilary even wrote that little brief. Racism is alive and people need to realize that its time for black folks to step up to the plate and talk the talk and walk the walk. All these big time preachers where are they.Thats the question? of the day, I really wants to know.
I just want to say I am so glad that Micheal Bell is getting out of jail, my heart is just racing and just overjoyed for this young man. I fell like if he was my son. My heart goes out to all the family's of Jena 6. To my Michael Baisden and all the community leaders may God continue to bless you for standing up for our people and these 6 young men. I love u Michael for stepping up and being a strong black man and not worrying about corporate america. This is what we need for black folks to come together and unite with one nother and show that we can make a difference. I LOVE YOU GOD BLESS YOU AND MAY GOD KEEP U.:)

Its sad to see that Senator Clinton took so long to say something about what's going in Jena, LA. Her husband's legacy shows us something different having created One America during his Presidency
I find it sad that so much attention has been given by prominent blacks in the last 3 weeks. Where have all of you been? I live in a small(less than 2000) town in northeastern NC & I heard about it months ago. I've been listening to talk show djs & everyone is talking about how the case is & that we need to go to Jena. I don't have a problem with when Sen. Clinton made her statement because the famous black djs weren't talking about this 3 months ago so why should we get mad at someone else when we weren't protesting treatment of the black youth. It's been on the internet for some time now & the incident was almost a year ago. I agree that the charges are unfair but should we really be advocating freedom for 6 young people who beat up 1 person? If 6 of them had beat 1 of us we would be calling for the electric chair. they assaulted a young man & should have been charged accordingly like the white youth who was convicted & given probation from the assault on the black youth at the party after the noose incident.

I am not impressed about her statement. I URGE all the family NOT to vote for her and send her a clear message that we need leaders who can talk and walk!
As a person who has never missed the opportunity to vote in local, state, or national elections(even runoffs) since 1975, I am amused when I hear people who say they are not going to vote for someone based on a couple of statements. I have always voted not based on candidates skin color but their record if they have been in office or their participation in the process if they haven't been in office. a lot of times we throw our vote based on color. It's not a question of who we like it's a question of whomight win or get the job done. Black people loved Jimmy Carter(not a politician) & he got trounced by Regan. Hillary is a politician like her husband, not as experienced but look who she learned from. Not saying that she's the best candidate but to say don't vote for her because you didn't like her statement about the Jena 6 is ridiculous. Justice is unequal in America but we keep yelling free 6 people who did commit a crime no matter how you look at it. Were the charges fair?Hell no. did they commit an assault? Definitely. If those are the only charges to be brought then yes free them. But if they had been charged correctly that's different. This would probably not have happened in my area when I was in high school because we would have been worried not about the law, but about the reaction from our parents. My parents would have killed me had I helped 5 other people beat up 1 person, white or black. I keep listening to blacks saying it's a different time but right & wrong has not changed. I support all who want justice for those young men but the still should realize that violence only brings more violence. Vote wisely & get facts before you make statements against people or for people.

I am 24 years old and I recently began listening to 102.5 and have been hooked since. I think we should have more radio personalities that talk about the issues that you hit on.
I believe it is our job as a people to want to know about what is REALLY going on in this world. The only problem I have with the listeners, is that they are all focusing on the wrong thing. Of course race is an issue, and I am utterly discussed by what happened @ Jena: but in a sense it is just one necessary thing along with religion, tv commercials, hip hop, and many other small and subtle issues/events, that the government NEEDS to happen in order to carry out a plan that has been manifesting for literally centuries.
I am talking about the greatest robbery of mankind and its taking place right under out noses and we don't even know it unless your third eye is opened. I stumbled upon this video via my fiance's best friend and I have to say it really threw me for a loop. I feel like not enough people know about the information that was given and we need to be more aware of what is really happening to us as a whole and not just as blacks and whites. It is so much BIGGER THAN RACE!!!!!. The video is called Zeitgeist .I really think EVERYONE needs to see it. The entire video is on you-tube.
Another person that I think that should be a household name is Neom Chomsky. I feel like they are also, the ones we (mankind) need to be listening to, not just our kind (Blacks). There are issues greater that what society is ready to handle but I think as long as we are ALL aware of them, we have time to react when the time is necessary. If we can just come together as people, and exert the amount of energy in the way we have for Katrina and the Jena cause: we can take the government and ultimately have the judicial system that we all long for and desire.

Maybe Hillary's urging had some impact on today's decision. Just a thought...it could be possible...you guys know how people in power who have something to hide will quickly cover their entire anatomy once they feel threatened by someone with a little more power.

In what way didnt Obama do better?? He is running for President, he isnt a activist. Whereas Senator Hilary Clinton's statement is very benign and stoic, I find it very fitting for her. She is obviously preoccupied with issues "she" feels are far more important. Our nation's politians have rarely shown support of civil rights violations. Enter Senator Barack Obama. There is no way any other presidential candidate can expect to keep up with a man so conscientious, so strong in his conviction and clarity, so eloquently capable of running the entire nation. In saying this I want to point out that this nation has remained divided comfortably throughout history, basically because there were no standards requiring lower level government to fairly address civil and human rights issues. Now Senator Clinton has been called on to show her stuff and this is all she could do. Her response was a very weak and limited effort given, just to say she responded. I would rather have seen that she didn't respond to Michael Baisden's request and simply show strong effort, directly to the legislative bodies in Louisiana, to get them to eliminate the backwards racial discriminative manner of practice.

I agree her statement is mechanical, and does not express any real thought (again I don't think she has even taken much time to read about this case. She is on the "campaign trail"). I do not know why it took so long, but guess what.... she is a politician.

HRC said in her statement that she has long been concerned about the bad treatment of black people but she has not done anything about it. The NY Senator could introduce legislation to make the NYPD accountable for the senseless killings and assaults that they have unleashed on the African-American population in New York. But has she done that or anything else? No! She hasn't done anything to help. If she is so concerned, it doesn't show!

It doesn't matter WHO blacks vote for, whoever the majority of WHITES want will win, and since the majority of whites are RACIST, my guess is that the winner will be Rudolph Guiliani.
I will vote, as I have in all the previous elections, and as always, the person I vote for won't win.

:( I'am want to know if Hillary was not trying to get our vote next year would we even have heard from her? I feel that any body can walk around, and say they feel our pain, but if the nasty and hateful things were never said to you you have no idea about what we go through. Yes things have gotten better, but we can never forget about was done to us as a people, we have to teach our children that they are just as beautiful and important as any one else.

As a black man in america, I don't EXPECT white folks to help my people. Not Hilary Clinton, not John McCain, or anyone else;
Having never gotten our 40 acres and a mule, we should know BETTER than to trust the white man.
If we want our race to do better, we must DO IT FOR OURSELVES!
The U.S government can give BILLIONS each year to Israel,
While blacks in Louisiana are treated like refugees.

So preston, name me 1 other US politician that has stepped up to the plate and provided a reasonable response/reply. This is the WAAAYY more im referring too.. I think you may be baselining Hillary to Bill, which is impossible for their life experiences were TOTALLY different.

First, Hillary gave a General response to a complicated issue. Barak Obama gave a specific response.
Second, Bill and Hillary's life experiences arent no different than any other white person growing up in Amerikkka. Bill Clinton did NOTHING for blacks while he was in office, and he isnt the First black president. You dont get that distinction by cheating on your wife, being an accused rapist, and smoking illegal substances.

I agree with what dfinelady has said, at least she did respond!! And Hilary has my support.

I agree. Before we criticize, let us see what she does first. Yes her statement was a bit...generic, but so was Obama's, imo. Hilary can't fully relate like Obama can, so of course he'd come across as being more passionate about this.
Anyway, I refuse to judge Hilary through that statement (at least she replied), let's see if she does anything pertaining to the Jena 6 and stuff after it.

Blackman7 you really need to pray about your feelings for white people! I am so serious you speak from a place of anger and disdain that just isn't healthy. Not all white people are racist and everything isn't a conspiracy by "the Man" to keep black folks down. Many of the problems in the black community have been there and will continue to be there because black people project their concerns and problems onto other people, instead of dealing with them. We perpetuate our own problems and blame them on others so that we can diminish our responsibility. Thats why I think too many people are focusing on racism, in this situation. Lazy black people are using it as a validation to continue being lazy and hard-working individuals are using it as a reason as to why other black people are not more successful. Basically, thinking that white people are having meetings to plan how to sabotage the progress of blacks which couldn't be farther from the truth.

I do not think all white people are racist, but it is a fact that black people are discriminated against based on our skin color and culture. If you do not believe it, just ask the two hardworking women who recently lost their jobs due to their hair styles (braids, and locks) which are very common among the black culture.
In this situation who ever can not see that there was injustice brought against the Jenasix youth needs bifocals.
Maybe some of you can understand it this way… What do we call it when two siblings are dong wrong and one gets a spanking, and sent to bed early while the other sibling gets to watch a movie while eating ice cream? We call that favoritism.
Does favoritism exist in the judicial system? Yes, and that is what we are marching for.

I found it kinda odd when Mike when on and on Friday about the meaning of urge. It's pretty Simple:
Main Entry: 1urge
Pronunciation: '&rj
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): urged; urg·ing
Etymology: Latin urgEre to press, push, entreat -- more at WREAK
transitive verb
1 : to present, advocate, or demand earnestly or pressingly <his conviction was upheld on a theory never urged at his...trial -- Leon Friedman>
2 : to undertake the accomplishment of with energy, swiftness, or enthusiasm <urge the attack>
3 a : SOLICIT, ENTREAT <urged him to keep trying> b : to serve as a motive or reason for <urged by a sense of duty>
4 : to force or impel in an indicated direction or into motion or greater speed <the dog urged the sheep toward the gate>
5 : STIMULATE, PROVOKE <urge not my father's anger -- Shakespeare>
intransitive verb : to declare, advance, or press earnestly a statement, argument, charge, or claim <urgeed for the adoption of the proposal>
- urg·er noun
I agree that it's a late statement, but the word urge does not make it weak.

Then why are ALL ethnic minorities at the BOTTOM of this society?
Why, according to statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau in November 2006 was the average yearly household income 50,622 U.S. dollars for whites, compared with 36,278 for Hispanics and 30,940 for blacks?
Why are white people's income 64 percent more than the blacks and 40 percent more than the Hispanics?
Why did three-fourths of white households own their homes in 2005, compared with 46 percent of black households and 48 percent of Hispanic households? (The Washington Post, Nov. 14, 2006)
Why, according to the U.S Census Bureau, was the poverty rate for whites 8.3 percent in 2005, while the rates were 24.9 percent for blacks and 21.8 percent for Hispanics?
Why did nearly one in five Hispanics lack sufficient access to nutritious food and one in 20 regularly went hungry, and why were blacks 42 percent of all the homeless people in the United States???
Why is the percentage of colored people uncovered by government health insurance much higher than that of whites?
Why, in 2005, was the uninsured rate 32.7 percent for Hispanics and 19.6 for blacks, compared with 11.3 percent for whites?
And in the hurricane-hit southern area, the poor and blacks lived a much worse life. During its eighty-seventh session the UN Human Rights Committee noted in its consideration of a report submitted by the United States on its implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, that the committee "remains concerned about information that poor people and in particular African-Americans were disadvantaged by the rescue and evacuation plans implemented when Hurricane Katrina hit the United States, and continue to be disadvantaged under the reconstruction plans". (Human Rights Committee, Eighty-seventh session, 10-28 July 2006)
Why have African-Americans and other ethnic minorities been subjected to discrimination in employment and the workplace?
Why is the unemployment rate of the blacks more than twice that of the whites?
According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Labor on Dec. 8, 2006, the unemployment rate in November 2006 was 8.6 percent for the blacks and 3.9 percent for the whites.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission receives more than 500 complaints against racial discrimination every week and more than 26,000 every year;
Why, in fiscal year 2005, did it received 26,740 charges of race discrimination?
Was that because of "lazy blacks"?
Why did a report released by an economic and policy research center in the United States on Dec. 15, 2006 say that biased government policies and negative coverage of the media have limited the development of the youngsters of ethnic minorities in the U.S?
Why are whites more easily to be promoted to management than the blacks and Hispanics?
You think RACE has nothing to do with that???
Why did an African-American employee of Merrill Lynch & Co. accuse the largest U.S. retail brokerage of racial discrimination in 2005?
And in 2006, 16 current and former black employees of the company joined the lawsuit, accusing Merrill of systematic and pervasive discrimination against African-American brokers and trainees nationwide in hiring, promotion and compensation.
Why also, was Tyson Foods Inc., the largest U.S. meat company, accused by thirteen current and former African-American employees of racial discrimination in 2006? (Reuters, Nov. 7, 2006)
Why are racial disparities in education also growing?
Do you have an answer for this?
According to U.S. Census Bureau's 2005 data, in the United States more than half ethnic minority males dropped school before high school graduation, 67.5 percent Hispanics and 53 percent blacks got no further education after graduating from high school. White Americans were more likely to hold a graduate or professional degree. At least 30 percent white adults held a bachelor's degree, compared with 17 percent black adults and 12 percent Hispanic adults.
Racial segregation in education is in fact quite serious.
According to a symposium held in the University of California at Los Angeles in October 2006, in the Los Angeles school district, 67 percent Hispanic students studied in 90 percent to 100 percent non-white schools.
The racial divide in Los Angeles high schools was more serious.
In Beverly High School, 73 percent students were whites, 8 percent were Asians, and 6 percent were Hispanics. As a contrast, among the 4,940 students in Rosevelt High School, 98.9 percent were Hispanics and 1 percent were blacks. There were big disparities in school facilities due to the racial divide.
Why are Latino and African-American motorists in most areas of Los Angeles significantly more likely than whites to be asked during police stops to leave their vehicles and submit to searches, according to a study ordered by the city in 2006? (Los Angeles Times, July 13, 2006).
Why is it that in judicial practice, blacks are usually more severely punished than whites?
You don't think that race plays a role in that???
According to statistics of the National Urban League, of the sentences issued in 12 crime categories in the State Courts, sentences for black males were longer than white males in all of them.
Why is it that, even though black people account for only 12.1 percent of the U.S. population, according to statistics of the U.S. Department of Justice, at the end of 2005, about 40 percent of all male inmates sentenced to more than one year were black, and 20 percent were Latino Americans?
Why, according to a report released by the Human Rights Watch on Dec. 1, 2006, was the number of black inmates 6.6 times that of whites and the number of Latino inmates was 2.5 times that of white inmates?
Why do statistics show that about one out of 12 black men were in jail or prison, compared with one in 100 white men?
Researchers pointed to poverty, a lack of opportunities, and racism in the criminal justice system for the black-white prison gap. (Answer to AIDS Mystery Found Behind Bars, Washington Post, March 9, 2006)
Why have the number of extreme racist and neo-Nazi organizations increased by 33 percent in recent five years, rising from 672 in 2004 to 803 in 2005?
Why is that an analysis of the 7,160 hate crimes revealed that 54.7 percent were motivated by a racial bias? (FBI press release, Oct. 16, 2006)
Why is it that the average net worth of a WHITE family is 80,000 dollars and only 6,000 dollars for a family who's black?
If it's not RACISM, when you find the ANSWERS to these questions, holla back! :)
Oh, and by the way, I don't "hate" white people.

When it comes to situation like Jena Louisiana, action must be taking by all.
There should be no such cases in America, land of the free, the key word being free. This Country has never truly carried out it's true mission when it comes to freedom and in it's present course, we as a nation are headed for bigger troubles that will rip this country apart to it's completion. We must become one mind, one heart, one nation under the true and living God or see our demise that is approaching quickly, action is key so let us act fast by stomping out the fire of racism.

Well Black America, How long are we going to just stand back and watch the 2007 Jim Crow's, Good old boys continously threaten, belittle and utterly discourage our young people. Like James Brown said "You don't want me to see what your doing to me." Well I see it and I'm going to do something about it...VOTE VOTE VOTE !!! It is time to take action and get the right people elected....We sit around and talk well now it is time to walk to the voting booths and walk the walk... Remember this is not Hillary Clinton's 1st time in the White House...
Things Like this have been happening for years, Yes these are exactly that Federal Civil rights violations...It will take the Department of Justice and the Department of Education to thoroughly review these cases of disparate treatment of the two sets of young people and have that DA/Board of Education representative disbarred and banned from any sort of public office in these United States of America...

I'm sorry you guys, but hillary is playing a smoke and mirrors game with us for this election. She knows that she has to please us now to get the white house. Barack Obama is the most genuine candidate america has seen in a long time. He isn't just for black people, he is for all people. People are saying that he is too "new" for the job of presidency, but i'd rather have someone who is pure at heart for the people, than someone who has mastered the art of manipulation on the people. Let's not have the "crabs in a bucket" mentality on someone who could/will change our america and the worlds view of us. Don't tear him down before he can stand up! Lets NOT be like those idiots who voted for Bush a SECOND time, because not much will change for us if you vote for Hilary.

I don't have answers for all of those statistics you have in post but I do have a theory and a few statements. First off, while we were tending the fields, digging ditches, and nursing the babies white people were building wealth for themselves and future generations, so as far as material things go they have about a 450 year head start so we will catch up sooner or later, just give it time. Second, any person, white or otherwise, only has as much power as you give them and I believe some of us give white people too much. Lastly, keep God first in everything you do and everything and everyone will fall to the waistside. So please don't be offended by my comment earlier because I wasn't trying to insult you but it is the best advise I can offer for any unhealthy situation. No matter how cliche some may think it is, Prayer truely does change People and Things! I think your post was intended as a gentle cue or perhaps a nudge, so
To add to your sentiments:
G U I D A N C E...Dancing With God
When I meditated on the word Guidance,
I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.
I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.
When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.
The movement doesn't flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,
both bodies begin to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.
It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness,
and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.
My eyes drew back to the wordGuidance.
When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i".
"God, "u" and "i" dance."
God, you, and I dance.
As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust
that I would get guidance about my life.
Once again, I became willing to let God lead.
My prayer for you today is that God's blessings
and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday.
May you abide in God, as God abides in you.
Dance together with God, trusting God to lead
and to guide you through each season of your life.
So let's continue to pray for one another...
And I Sincerely Hope You Dance.

I don't have answers for all of those statistics you have in post but I do have a theory and a few statements.
The answers to those statistics are OBVIOUSLY RACISM. The answer is DEFINITELY NOT because white folks love blacks.
Which takes us back to my ORIGINAL statement:
"As a black man in america, I don't EXPECT white folks to help my people. Not Hilary Clinton, not John McCain, or anyone else;
Having never gotten our 40 acres and a mule, we should know BETTER than to trust the white man.
If we want our race to do better, we must DO IT FOR OURSELVES!

While blacks in Louisiana are treated like refugees.
White folks don't care, and Kanye West made a true statement.
If we want things to get better, it's gonna be up to YOU and ME!"
First off, while we were tending the fields, digging ditches, and nursing the babies white people were building wealth for themselves and future generations, so as far as material things go they have about a 450 year head start so we will catch up sooner or later, just give it time.
If we don't UNITE and WORK TOGETHER, perhaps another 400 years?
Second, any person, white or otherwise, only has as much power as you give them and I believe some of us give white people too much.
No, the DEVIL and the WHITE MAN had "power" long before you or I ever existed. Like the BIBLE says, the DEVIL is the Prince of this world.
Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The devil couldn't have OFFERED Jesus "all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them", if he didn't CONTROL them.
Like the BIBLE says, the DEVIL is the prince of this world.
Lean on and trust in the Grace, Mercy, Favor and blessings of God and everything will be alright because He will direct your path and make your enemy your foot stool.
I agree with you, that we should put God first in everything that we do. God is in control, even though the devil is the prince of this world.

IMMIGRATION RIGHTS GROUPS CLAIM POLICE CAPTAIN KIDNAPPED GUEST WORKERS
Just got this press release over the transom. These are pretty serious allegations. I'm not a believer in trying people via the Internet, but the charges certainly should be investigated to see if there is anything to them. I also know that MIRA and ACLU are groups that are serious and credible and not likely to trump up baseless allegations and I would imagine you'll be hearing more about this story.

To all the Kanya West’s & 50 Cents of the world that seem to think record sales are the most important things going on in today’s world SHAME ON YOU! I continue to stress that our ancestors did not work as hard as they did for this. It seems to me that these people are working against us and for the INTELLEGENT GOVERNMENT by continuing to disgrace our once good name, the good name of minorities working together to get something better (there were even thousands of white people that died to provide something better for us minorities). But instead they continue to feed our children what is forbidden by our HEAVENLY FATHER, to BOAST is something that is deserving of eternal death according to the GOOD BOOK that has been watered down throughout the years.
Furthermore if you read the last bulletin I put up it is apparent to me the main reason our GOOD NAME continues to be tarnished by a select few; Michael Vick was in the news more times than the weather, O.J. Simpson has graced our headlines yet again and I’ve seen him more times than the weather. Why are minorities in the negative news lime-light all the time? I’ll tell you because they want the public to get a look at the “animals” (minorities) to have a good excuse to put us back in slavery, just as they are doing.
The corrupt minded person looking at the television at our women dancing across the stage half naked would say they deserve to be slaves. Or watching the news and see O.J. in the headlines again would say he deserves to be a slave. Or the Mexican that was in a car accident that killed three people would say they deserve to be slaves. But they keep their dirt HUSH, HUSH why because they don’t want the corrupt minded person to WAKE UP and say this happens in ALL RACES and the BIBLE says to forgive how many times? The Bible says we all are created equal. GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
What do you think would happen if the Mexicans that work for pennies doing jobs we refuse to do refuse to do them any longer?

[I]What Hillary Clinton said was all well and can but my questions is :Why did it take blowing her up on the radio and several people calling her camp before she made a statement regarding the situation.. Trust and believe if this was happening to her children it would not have taken her so long to have a response or to request some type of action.....    [   /I]

While reading the various statements that have been posted by many of you, I agree and disagree with various points of her statement. I was fortunate enough to attend the Charleston Chapter of the NAACP benefit banquet dinner this past Saturday where Hilary was the guest and Keynote speaker. She spoke on many issues and especially about the Jena 6 case. She was asked directly about her views and where she stands on the case and she did not attempt to give a bullshit answer or say something that would "pacify" those in attendance! I can't repeat verbatim what she said, but she received a standing ovation from the president of the NAACP and the many whites who were in attendance as well.
As I stated before, I do not agree with her statement nor do I totally disagree. But the post that Devine lady made is true! She is not her husband. She can't respond EXACTLY as to how black America would like for her to respond. She has so many issues to deal with, that she can't possibly respond in a manner that would satisfy everyone. It may satisfy some and not others. She DID make a statement and for now that should be enough. We asked for her to comment and show her position and she did just that! Obama did the same thing. We all know that it's one thing to TALK, but it's another to SHOW ACTION! Both are politicians, one is white and the other is black! One seems to be sympatric to the issue and the other has their own views. Everyone is saying that Obama has their vote and those that said they were going to vote for Hilary are now jumping ship and jumping on the Obama bandwagon. Black America is so much up in arms about Hilary and Obama and who they are going to cast their vote for, that we are not seeing the big picture. Why hasn't ANYBODY come forward with a statement about the woman who was abused by those 6 whites in Charleston W. Va.? Why haven't we cried out for a response from both Obama or Hilary in regards to that issue? Better yet, why haven't they come forward or any other public figure for that matter stepped up and said anything about the injustice treatment in her case?? We have to continue to look at both candidates and see which one is TRULY going to be there for ALL Americans through all the BS! Look at Bill Clinton...no one was saying shit when he was running for office against Bush Sr. And might I remind you that he served 8 years in office!!!! Black America was all behind him!! Hell, we were calling him "our black president"! If he could, we would have voted for him again!! Hilary was right by his side through it all...even his affairs with Monica! He lied about what he did and we didn't say much about it. Hilary was in the spotlight and STOOD BY HER MAN! She faced all types of humiliation and endured the fight! And, now we want to dump all over her, because she isn't acting like we want?? She's not considered "sympatatic" to the American people??? C'mon! If Bill was in the running for president again with Obama, then who would you vote for? Let's be fair to both candidates and see who will TRULY make a GREAT LEADER for America!
Hilary's statement may not have been good enough to satisfy us, but at least she isn't hiding in her little closet. If she truly didn't want to say anything, she could have very well kept her mouth shut! They say it's better to listen and think before you speak and make a fool out yourself. She spoke, and Obama spoke. They BOTH made statements. Now let's see who will STAND behind what they say. Let's continue to watch their ACTIONS leading up to our votes come November 2008! I'm not 100% for Hilary, nor am I 100% for Obama! I'm for the person who WILL GET THE JOB DONE and see to it that all American citizens are given fair treatment on both ends!!

EXCATLY how I feel. Did she really think we would buy that statement. She probably didn't even write it, she probably had her "Intern" to throw something together quickly.
I read Sen. Clinton's statement and it was nothing said that was not expected. I do not expect Clinton to say anything that would harm her run for president. What is she to say? "lets stand up and fight and get these white people staight down in Jena" No people she did comment like we would want her to and now we are ready to not vote for her. The person that we should be mad at is the person that is in office now. Bush (i never say president because he is not one to me) did not do anything for Katrina so I did not expect him to do anything for the Jena 6 either. I was listening to Steve Harvey this morning and Rev. Jesse Jackson made the statement that JFK went to the jail in Alabama to visit Dr. Martin Luther King. I remember that part of history and knowing that JFK was a president of the people. Whether white, black, blonde, brunette, etc. But the thing was he was already president. Dont blame Hilary because she is white. Let us make a stand for ourselves like they did back in the day during the civil rights movement. MLK did not wait for the president to do anything for our rights he pressed on and won the victory for us just as we should do for ourselves. Dont look for others to win it for the Jena 6 Let us do it and Do it non-violently but forcefully.

Going on the record in this way is in itself a testament to her courage inasmuch as she is sure to alienate some white votes who-- like some of the others who've responded to this forum-- are criticizing her for taking a side in this issue (Some of them are saying the opposite of some of the African-American blogger, "Her comments were too strong about a case that she doesn't have all of the court-related evidence on").

It is a sad day when Presidental Candidate Hillary Clinton is being scrutinized and criticized for her freedom of speech comment on the Jena Six. Is it because she is a white female? Would the reaction have been the same if it had been Senator Obama or Senator Edwards making the comment?
Too many times miracles are expected in this corrupt country. The answer to healing, recreating a better system, and peace begins within each of us, and it starts before a situation hits the airwaves. So many of us have no voice, or prefer not to be heard, in public or at the polls. Also, too many times propaganda dictates our "good" and "bad" choices, and our times to "pose for the camera".
I am a 59 year old proud black female, and prayerfully Hillary Clinton will become our next president. She is definitely a strong individual who wants the best for everyone, despite race, gender or status. Thank you.
