A noose was left hanging from a tree limb near a black cultural studies center on an American college campus.
That's the scenario that University of Maryland police, with help from the FBI, are investigating as a possible hate crime that may be tied to a similar racial controversy playing out in Louisiana.
Students and faculty at the university's Nyumburu Cultural Center reported the noose to police Friday afternoon, Paul Dillon, a spokesman for the University of Maryland Police Department, told ABC News. The building has been a meeting point for the university's black students and faculty for 27 years. Nyumburu is the Swahili word for "freedom house."
The noose already had been removed by the maintenance staff when police first took the report, but not before an unidentified student took a picture of the scene and e-mailed the image to police. It shows a roughly 3-foot white rope hanging 10 to 12 feet off the ground and ending with a small noose.
Police issued a campuswide e-mail Friday night regarding the discovery and marking the beginning of the formal investigation.
"We will treat this like any other serious crime on campus," Dillon said, "interviewing witnesses and developing a timeline."
It remains unclear when the noose was originally hung from the tree and who may be behind the apparent hate message. Dillon said creating a timeline will be key and might allow investigators to pinpoint surveillance video of the area showing the perpetrator or perpetrators.
There is recent precedent for racially motivated disputes on the Maryland campus. In 1999, police investigated a series of disparaging letters sent to some of the university's black leaders. No charges were filed, Dillon said, but police did "get to the bottom" of the harassing letters.
Connection With the 'Jena Six'?
Dillon also would not rule out a connection between the noose found on the College Park, Md., campus and the ongoing, high-profile racial controversy in Jena, La. Racial tensions remain high in the Louisiana town as sentencing awaits five of six black teenaged students from Jena High School on charges tied to the beating of a white student in December. A sixth student was charged as a minor.
While no motive for the attack was identified, it took place after three nooses were hung from a tree at the high school. The nooses followed a black student's decision to sit down in a place where white students typically gathered. The students accused of placing the nooses in that instance were suspended from school.
On Sunday, The Rev. Al Sharpton called for an investigation into the district attorney prosecuting the "Jena Six" in the alleged attack on the white classmate. Sharpton also said he would be in Jena on Sept. 20 for the sentencing of one of the teens.
"We don't have anything specifically linking this to the 'Jena Six,' but we're not ruling it out," Dillon said.
C.D. Mote Jr., the University of Maryland president, acknowledged the investigation in an open letter to the campus posted on the school's Web site.
"The possibility that this act appears intended to bring to mind the horrific crime of lynching, which is such a terrible and tragic part of our nation's past, is particularly abhorrent," Mote wrote in the letter.
Mote promised resources to the investigation and swift justice for anyone linked to the incident.
"Any person or persons found guilty of this act will be subject to the university's full judicial process and any possible criminal actions."

 WTH! What is going on in this world? Family this just proves the WE have been asleep! Chillin, patrying, booty-callin, whatever to much! In the Jena case, we sort of said "Its the south" and that somehow justified the noose. This time it's a major university! What's next? What has to happen for us to WAKE UP?

I “accidentally” came across this article while looking for something on-line yesterday. Know when you read the article you as well as I know I didn’t not come across this article by accident. Our Lord & Savior made sure I read this article to make everyone aware of what is going on. The world really and truly is going backwards and I always thought they said that because of the fads that always repeat themselves. Take a look for yourself:

IMMIGRATION RIGHTS GROUPS CLAIM POLICE CAPTAIN KIDNAPPED GUEST WORKERS
Just got this press release over the transom. These are pretty serious allegations. I'm not a believer in trying people via the Internet, but the charges certainly should be investigated to see if there is anything to them. I also know that MIRA and ACLU are groups that are serious and credible and not likely to trump up baseless allegations and I would imagine you'll be hearing more about this story.

This would be th counterpoint to Talk radio, the better bits of which do know what "svengali" is. Limbaugh and paul harvey both occaionally refer to themselves as such.

Yeah. It seems that in some parts of the US, foreign workers get the same treatment as those in Libya.

Hey family,
I am sooooooooo proud of us and what we are doing with the issue that we are having in Jena, LA but we are getting hit all over the place we have to keep up what we have started with this. The Jena 6 is only one case its a big one but we have to look out for all the cases because if we let mess slip throught the cracks it could get out of hand. So let get on top of this mess that is going on in Maryland. We can see that good can come of something if we band together so let's get on top of this.:D

Alleged Attack Against 13-Year-Old Virginia Boy Caught on Tape

Police in Norfolk, Va., are investigating whether an alleged attack against a 13-year-old boy that witnesses caught on tape Saturday was racially motivated, WAVY-TV reported Monday.
The tape shows the victim, Damien O'Rourke, who is white, being violently beaten by a group of African American teenagers. According to the report, Damien and his mother, Reesha Price, said the fight was unprovoked and believe Damien was attacked because he is white.
Damien said he was attacked while going to meet friends to play football. Price told WAVY-TV that she found her badly beaten son just blocks from her home after receiving a phone call alerting her to the attack Saturday afternoon.
The family had just recently moved to the Norfolk area, WAVY-TV reported. Damien said one of his alleged attackers was among a group of students at his school that mistreated him because he was the new kid. Price told WAVY-TV that she now fears her son is being targeted because of his race.
Norfolk police reportedly told WAVY-TV that their gang unit will be investigating the case.

Mark Ecko, designer of Ecko wear and distributer of G-Unit clothing needs to be boycotted! He purchased the baseball that Barry Bonds hit to brake Aaron's home run record and has pledged to deface the ball with an asterisk that will signify that Bonds did so under the influence of steroids. Regardless of what people think, Bonds has not been charged of using steroids but Mark, like many white men, thinks its okay to rewrite history as they see fit simply because they have the economic power to do so. Please boycott him and his clothing and send a message to his arrogant and racist stance against rewriting baseball History! The museum of Baseball history says it will accept the ball defaced and all. Boycott them too!
