Open Mic: Parents and kids discuss the Jena 6 case

I heard the end of the discussion pertaining to Jena 6 on the show today. I just want to say that issues such as these are alarming to young people because for a long time young people (including myself years ago) saw issues such as this as struggles and issues of the past or of our parents and grandparents. Many young people haven't had issues regarding racism and class prevalent in their lives as in Jena 6. This will be a wake up call for young people including me. All young people must realize and understand that civil rights is not just an issue our ancestors fought for but civil rights for all is a fight that we must be currently fighting.

I believe there are young people that understand this but there needs to be more young people of all ethnicities that come to this realization.

There was a young man on the show that had some powerful and profound things to say about this situation. I believe his name is Isaac. I want to encourage more young people to be knowledgeable of what is going on and how everything from politics to music affects their lives.

I believe young people need to have their voice heard. I, with my partner have started a magazine for Young America. This magazine is called VOYCE MAGAZINE. The magazine will premiere January 2008. Issues facing young people of all ethnicities will be presented and readers will have an opportunity to sound off on these issues. We will feature young entrepreneurs and professionals, have investing tips for young people, and so much more. We will be a resource for young people. Our focus is to promote positivity, spirituality, and personal growth. Our goal is to entertain, inform, and inspire.

We need more mediums for young people. Since I can't provide a phone number to this post I'll just list the website for VOYCE MAGAZINE, www.voycemag.com . The future is ours; we must decide what kind of future we want to have and be willing to fight for it.

Hello myspace family, friends and associates,

One of the topics on Michael Baisden was an open mic for parents and their children about the Jena 6 situation. Ever since Michael Baisden has so graciously taken this case under his wings and began the broadcast on his show, I too have been a bullhorn to my children and others.

So as soon as I walked in the door yesterday we began another day of discussions about Jena 6 in my household and I tell you children always, always amaze me. My youngest Bright Eyes statement that he wrote, I had to put in an envelope and will display at a later time, perhaps with just he & I because they were indeed some powerful words. I never knew my 7 year old could write so very deeply. My middle Bright Eyes is really beginning her writing quest & I know she is going to be one great leader!

But I will share my eldest Bright Eyes words (click on my pics, click on the Jena 6 Flyer album) for they are deep enough for you all to get a clear understanding about being YOUNG in this day in age for her first question to me after receiving this assignment was “Mom, there are several powerful black people in the white house are they going to be there, are they going to help?” I did not bite my tongue for this is not in my nature when talking with my Bright Eyes I said, “Baby, just because Ms. Rice is black does not really make her black. She was birthed her color but there are several white people that I would take to battle over her (perhaps Ms. Rice has gotten herself together and has woken up. We all know some people Black & White have plans & strategies that NO ONE is aware of for many years but...). COLOR IS NOT THE KEY HERE WHETHER YOUR WHITE OR BLACK everyone SHOULD know injustice when they see it or hear about it and should STEP OUT AND HELP. Now don’t get me wrong perhaps just like Bush has tried on many occasions to set-up his “chess board” before he leaves office (he has been taught very well by his ancestors) but all I know is that if and when we have war on our Land, our Soil, just like in Iraq for there are several youngsters your age that live in Iraq but look at what they must deal with right now and look at your life, there is not going to be any color. NO ONE WILL SEE COLOR mark my words. We ALL will be in the SAME situation even Mr. Bush.”

And yes this was my open door to start the discussion about the Book of Revelations (I didn’t go into full details but my youngest is very curious about it and soon I will have to share full details for he WILL not let it go until he knows) because it is very REAL. I explained “Mommy has protected you for all these years but there are times, like in the Jena 6 situation, that Mommy will not be able to protect you all, you MUST depend on OUR LORD & SAVIOR!”

We had a 3 hour discussion last night & I will continue to have these discussions until the day I die just like my ancestors did to me. PRAISE GOD FOR MY ANCESTORS is ALL I CAN REALLY SAY!!!!!!!

P.S. My Bright Eyes are aware that Mommy is not always right but at least I can say they are aware and they know they can make their own decisions & judgments!
