We are not doing enough, our black men and women have low self esteem and feel that being black is a curse. I am a proud black women who has a mom who feels white people are more superior imagine that...i over came it and I own my own business and continually lifting my african american brothers and sisters (who want to help themselves)!

:) Im Praying This Is A Wake Up Call For All People. It Dosen't Stop With Jena 6. Cause There Are Many More Cases Where People Are Being Discriminated Against. And Sentence Unjustly In Our Judicial
System Across This Nation.
And It's Not Only By The White Race Of People. It's By All People Across This Globe. Every Nation And Country Has A Form Of Prejudice Against People.
Only In America They Constantly Advertise Their Hatred.:(

One of the major issues that we face is this. We speak of the lack of blacks leaders. But in many cases most of our older people are the ones that are putting the strains on the younger generation. "they are not ready" they can't do it" "you don't know or understand the struggles of the 60's"
Well as a young leader in my community I have gotten those same comments thrown my way. When we run against these older politicians we are then asked why are we doing it? Why do we feel that we should keep facing our elder black politicians not the whites. Well for my city we vote for city officials by district and for the us the incumbent happen to be a non productive black male. Not that this is an issue for me that he is black, my issue is that he is non productive. The great thing for me is that those that said at my age I would need many years before they can see me as a leader are the same people that are now calling me at the middle of the night becasue he is showing them that we is not willinig nor will he help them with the issues that they are facing.
We must do better. Why tell our young people to go to school and obtain and education if you will not allow them to prosper. And if they prosper with you why is it you that must assume all the credit or that is your protege'. If you want to take credit for doing some thing then do it when you are away from the cameras and reporters and do it because it is something you love not just because you want the title of the job but not the work of the job.

Also when that younger person come to you for mentoring. Teach them what they want to know. Don't make them your errand boy and teach them nothing. You will them with disrespting them in this manner. Also don't have them do anything you are not willing to do yourself.
In most cases we get more help from the other races than we get from our own.

this past weekend and one clear message in her comedy line-up was for those of us going down to Jena not to forget "that we have to leave the people behind" which after she said that my heart nearly exploded because it is a reality we do have to leave them behind and there is no telling if our Jena family will ever be treated fairly before OUR LORD & SAVIOR returns.
But the fact of the matter is we need to have a presents that we all are together as one FAMILY as our ANCESTORS did for us so many, many times long ago! Before Sheryl said that I saw all people as my brothers & sisters but the feeling at that very moment was and still is if anyone of my Jena brothers & sisters want to get out of Jena they are more than welcome to stay with me until they can get it together enough to move out on their own. THAT'S HOW DEDICATED I AM.
I believe in my heart (I haven't done any research) many of the Jena people are working and making minimum wage on jobs that we make $10 doing the same jobs. But if this wasn't the case they would save up enough to move out of DODGE!
I AM willing to open my home!!!!!

That’s the problem with our African American people we need to take a look at the Injustice that has been done my question to all the people that wanted to know why we are going there WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR CHILD? I applaud Michael Baisden for what he is doing I know that I am stepping up to the plate and rolling up my sleeves, we do not need the negativity either you are with us, are you are against us but we will be in Jena La on September 20, 2007 in doing what I believe that is right, I use to hear my Mom and Dad talk about what there life was like in the 50’s and 60’s
I will not allow our children to become victims of circumstances.

I hear these callers on the phone and first thing hit my mind is are these ladies mothers, because a mother will appreciate the support and then again all their comments would change if the situation hit their door step, i've seen it happen numerious times in my community

I'm from LA and not everybody in LA believe what that caller said. I'm glad national attention has been brought to this case even if it was ignored in the beginning. I applaud Michael Baisden and everyone for stepping up and standing in the gap for these young men in Jena and their families. This was a school yard fight that's turned into something ridiculous on the part of the DA. It got out of hand b/c it wasn't handled properly from the start when the nooses were hanging from the tree. Prank my _ _ _; that was statement those kids were making. And they knew it and the others along with the black residents of Jena knew it. This is 2007 and this mess is still happening. So again I say STIR IT UP, STIR IT UP!!! I pray that these young men will get some relief and the charges are dropped so they can get on with their lives.

I'm listening to your program and was appalled as to when they mentioned what about our back yard (it is in our backyard). Just because it's in Jena does not mean it did not hit Harlem, NY. I'm so distraught about this whole incident that I know if it was my nephew and/or niece I wish that someone from out of my "own" backyard would stand up and shout ENOUGH already. Martin Luther King, Jr. stepped out of his backyard to support all of man-kind in and around his backyard and so far away that he reached us all. So NO, it's never too much to stand up for justice and equality.

The biggest mistake I have ever made was moving from Brooklyn, NY to Mobile, AL. Those of us who do not know our past are doomed to repeat it. Ever black person that can, should be in Jena. Find a bus, car, train, plane and get there. It is worst than you think. We as a people need to get a handle on this, and we need to begin to educate our children. I have used this Jena 6 madness and a jumping board to tell my child about her black people, starting with slavery. I suggest everyone begin to instill pride in this race with their kids. And we can all start with the Jena 6 so this will not be repeated.

Keep it in the news and on our minds let the world view how much Hypocracy still living and breathing in the United States.. something needs to be done and it is the time to do it. The media will have silly and baseless stories about Paris Hilton on all day. I could care less..
It could be my son, nieces, nephews...Our Children

WHAT!!! TOO FAR!!!
I cannot believe that people (Black People) actually believe that we are going "too far" with backing/helping some of OUR people that actually NEED our help!!! It is mind boggling to me that they do not realize that this is one of thee most blatent, open handed slaps in the face that WE can receive: INJUSTICE BECAUSE OF OUR COLOR and we're supposed the just sit there and take it. So because we are not fighting for their (the haters) cause then we are wrong! No, I think not. Big Brother Mike and Uncle George........you know what they say:
Make your haters your MOTIVATORS!!! :p

I can not believe someone could believe that this issue is getting "too much" attention. If it were not for the radio I would not have known about these young men.
I will not raise my two sons to believe that they have to "watch out" for traps and to to "fall in line" by not standing for what is right. If people think that you can sit down and be quiet and that this will go away think about this: If teenagers can get away with hanging nooses in a highschool courtyard, how long will it be before they are hanging them in the front yard or your home? If they can get away with hanging them in your yard how long will it be before they drag your children out of your house and hang them on those nooses? Get it together people. This is our time to show our children that you can stand up for what is right instead of being afraid.

Mike,
Tell George to stop hogging the phones. I have been trying to get through for the last hour.
I say, RACISM IS ALIVE IN THE U.S. I am a white man that grew up in the projects in NJ. I would not even think of asking if I could go and hang out where the black kids hung out. I am sure that I would have got my a** kicked all over the playground because I was the only white kid in my high school until my younger brother got there the next year. So I feel that you are taking this to far. The pen is always mightier than the sword. When the young black kid was wronged he should have taken his complaint to the police not handle it himself. Once he beat up the white kid it was taking to the police and charges were filed.
GEORGE GET OFF THE PHONE.

It's sad that in the 21st century "WE" are still fighting discrimination, hatred among each other. Especially when we as a country are currently fighting a WAR supposely based on setting a "DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY IN IRAQ" What a JOKE !!! When in our OWN country we are still fighting between each other based on the color of our skin. No wonder the rest of the world laughs at us for our democratic ways. We are democratic when it seems fit to be democratic. Instead of trying to fix the entire world, let's focus on our problems, POVERTY, DISCRIMINATION, JUSTICE FOR ALL, FAIRNESS FOR ALL NO MATTER WHERE WE LIVE, OUR BACKGROUNDS, OUR CULTURE, etc.....
I will continue to pray for everyone @ Jena, LA. Bring on the JUSTICE FOR ALL --regardless of your color.

I don't know why it is so difficult for us to look at the big picture here. The situation in Jena LA is bigger than the school, the town or the state. This is RACISM. We suggest that the parents should home school their kids, or get involved in other issues that in comparison is a small thing. Who amongst us can quit our job and home school. I would assume most people in Jena are not wealthy and would prefer to feed their children and leave the education to the school system for which your tax dollars are paying for. I am very upset that any of us would have an issue with people going to Jena to support the young men that are being railroaded. In the 60's we were dealing with issues like this and here we are in 2007 still facing these problems and we Still won't look at the Big Picture and Unite...How Long is it going to take for us to stop being petty and stand up for something. I applaude Michael, George and all others that will be going to Jena. In the words of Curtis Mayfield...which one will you choose my brother!

NO, NO, NO, you are DEFINITELY NOT going too far. I am sitting here with my daughter and she is LIVID. Her questions are how do adults think children learn except by the reactions of the adults around them. Why are we not hearing ANYTHING, NOTHING from the people who are wanting to run this country by becoming president in the next election. This is kind of like a job description of them wouldn't ya think? They should have ALL made at least a statement about this. And come next year they will want votes right. And another thing, Jesus would be in Jena, LA because He WENT, WENT, WENT where He was needed! Now as a parent I have to say that this is an atrocity but not surprising. Why did that student have to ask to go anywhere on his own campus and why is not every and I do mean every parent not moved by this. My parents were effected by these attitudes in the 30's and 40's, I was effected in the 60's and 70's, my children were effected in the 90's and here we are in another century and the beat goes on. Injustice anywhere is still injustice everywhere!

Mike, I am appalled at the women who called in with the absurb suggestions that somehow what has happened to these young men in Jena was somehow their fault. I will say this to the caller,(I believe her name was Jade) who called in during the 4pm hour that said that the mother's could have homeschooled or found another alternative, YOU SHOULD CELEBRATED MLK DAY WITH GUSTO EVERY YEAR!!!! Both of these women obviously were beneficiaries of the Civil Rights Movement. What these families are going through is exactly what the movement was about. We have evolved so much that somehow we have (some of us anyway) forgotten what the movement was about. To those women and anyone who says that the victims here could have chosen a different path thus bringing about a different outcome, I Say: WAKE UP!

I'm Certain We've Gone Too Far If At Anytime, Any Memebers Of Race Think That Something As Outlandish As This Could Go Own In This Day And Time And Be Kept Quiet.
There Can Be No Justice Serve Unless Everyone Involved Accept His Or Her Own Wrong Doings In This Whole Mess.(x#$%)
RACES PEOPLE SUCH AS THE JUDGE ON DOWN TO THE POLICE AND THE PROSECUTING
ATTORNEY'S SHOULD NOT ONLY REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM THIS CASE BUT OUT OF THE LEGAL ARENA ALTOGETHER.
ALSO MICHAEL, I WANT TO INFORM YOU THAT I HEARD THE OFFICIALS IN JENNA ARE PLANNING ON NOT LETTING ANYONE WHO IS NOT ON A BUS ENTER INTO JENNA. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU COULD GET SOME VALIDTY CONCERNING THIS MATTER. ME AND SOME OF PEPS ARE PLANNING ON DRIVEING OUR OWN VEHICLES DOWN TO JENNA FOR THIS HISTORICAL EVENT.

 I cant believe that we are foolish enough to even consider that covering the Jena 6 story is too much. We have to start somewhere and there is only and will only be strength and power in numbers! Why do we not acknowledge history as a people the way other cultures do every year faithfully. The fact remains in the History of this country a black man or woman was not a person they were considered cargo when endentured servants were replaced by african slaves and if we turn around walk away and remain useless and uninformed we provide no justice for one another because we dont stick together as a people regardless of income status. I wonder if those before us had not sacrificed thier lives and endangered their life and their families lives regardless of what century or decade it was 1750, 1850, 1950, 2007 where would we go to buy a house, education, car, and vote without rights.
The fact remains that those before us took a stand for what was right and died and sacrificed. Imagine had our people took what was being given to them and just kept it moving because they thought it was too much to do something. Life is hard for everyone but in this country it has been especially hard for our people of color because we were never viewed upon as a full person with a SOUL, a MIND, and HEART regardless of how much money we were never appreciatted and the laws and the way this government handles thier Economic Democratic Responsibilities shows it. Those in power have succeeded in dividing poeple of color to conquer people of color and the sad truth is if we dont stand and raise every voice and sing till earth and heaven rings with the harmony of liberties we or one of our family members could very easily be the next Jena .

Hi Michael,
I continue to thank you for everday for the Topics of what's really going on in today's world. About the Jenna 6 case for the people who say that your going to far with it, it's only because it hasn't happen to noone close to them, but you can bet that if it hit home, surely they would APPRECIATE what your doing. I am really sorry for what is going on still in Today's Society about RACISM, but I guess it really does still exist in places we wouldn't believe. I do try to get on the radio on a daily basis about the topics, but can't get through, but I am here to say that it doesn't stop me from listening or leaving a message on the board> I am from Mobile, Al. and you would be surprised how people don't know that it happened or they don't know anything about it. But my prayers continue to go out to the Bell Family, and that I plan on coming down on the 20th to support them as well. Again, thank you Michael for being such an open-minded person and also a good listener to our kids in today's wicked/crazy world.

Hi Mike:
I APPLAUD YOU!! a fresh face/voice is certainly refreshing. I listen to you every day and I find myself talking to the radio and not calling in because I realize that you have soooo many people who have opinions/voices/answers, etc. that a long-winded old-timer such as myself could probably talk for hours and still not get her point over as well as this printed essay [hopefully you'll understand - I know you will]:
#1 having been a child in the 40's and my Father returning from WW2 as a participating G.I. trying to "protect" the USA citizens and their way of living, freedom and life: but yet it was against the law for Negro soldiers to apply to the G.I Housing Bill for home ownership, so the USA built us brand new "projects" to live in as a trade-off.... ummm INJUSTICE
#2 having been a college student during the turbulent 60's and the Civil Rights Movement, sit-ins, etc. and realizing now, that had it not been for the efforts of many of us at that time, some of the people who called in today with "opinions" on why you are wrong in this whole effort might not even have access to the way of life as they now know it ...ummm COMPLACENCY
#3 I maintain that my generation has fallen down in our window of opportunity to mention/teach/reiterate and rehearse again and again the stories/life experiences that we as a people have lived through and which have enabled OUR people, for the most part, to live like they do. For many, the "noose" seems like a fairytale item from a distant bygone era or its something many have chosen to ignore/forget/disbelive, etc. I can only blame myself and many of my generation for the air of disinterest bordering on disrespect for the plight of these OUR family members, by many of our so called privileged entertainers/business people, etc. Many have belitted things such a Black History week/month celebrations as something just for old folks to commiserate about. We never made any of our history a mandatory thing for the masses. Unless someone is a member of a church/Greek organization, etc. Black History celebrations get glossed over and forgotten. I believe that the reason why the Holocaust will never be forgotten by our Jewish brethren is because they repeat/reiterate the tragedy to their generations year after year and it is not something they have taken lightly. WE NEED TO DO BETTER
I will support you in this and any other project to bring awareness to the plight of our people and the need to go as far as it takes to bring down the walls erected in this country, and not all of them have been put up by those who believe that being the "majority" thinkers/rulers, etc. makes them superior. OUR OWN PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP
In closing here are two quotations:
"The American city should be a colletion of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today." Lynden B. Johnson
"The strongest bond of human sympathy outside the family relation should be one uniting, working people of all nations and tongues and hindreds." Abraham Lincoln
I realize that I got very long winded; however, Be Encouraged, My Brother.
Sincerely,
Elaine Willis-McKnight [you don't really have to mention my whole name, but my voice/heart goes with each of you]

I am a young black male from the DC area, and for the longest time myself and some friends have been talking about it's time for the black community to wake up. When Hurricane Katrina hit and we watched how the government responded slowly to our fellow Americans some of us woke up to the injustice that plague our country.
Now Jena Six how much more does the black community have to suffer before we all wake up and come together like we should? INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT THE NEXT HOT CD OR THE LATEST SHOES WE NEED TO BE WORRYING ABOUT THE STATE OF OUR ONCE GREAT COMMUNITY! WE NEED AND I CAN NOT STRESS IT MORE BUT WE AS A PEOPLE NEED TO GET BACK TO THE OLD SOUL THE ONE THAT ONCE OUR PEOPLE WERE FREED WE STAYED TOGETHER AND HELPED EACH OTHER, THE ONE THAT MADE ROSEWOOD WHAT IT WAS AND WHAT HAS BEEN IN US FROM THE BEGINNING. I for to long have watched our people sleep and enough is enough. As the great Marvin Gay said WHAT'S GOING ON. WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE WAKE UP. Any time a government official that is suppose to uphold the law takes the liberty to break the law and we don't stand up what will they do next. sorry for the bold letters but the frustration is an all time high lets stop being frustrated and take action by any means necessary. The big deal, not to mention, what sticks out in my mind,is this could set a template for young black males, nationwide.I heard a couple of people call in,one,a mother, and try to minimize this issue. It let me know that some people really don't think this is serious. If they do it to these boys, which hopefully won't happen, then who's to say it can't happen anywhere else, let alone in the south. That's the disturbing part about this.Although I won't be able to attend,I signed the petition(Color of Change.org),and will be rocking all black, including the "Free the Jena 6 T-shirt",9/20.

Hehehee! There is no freaking way that this can get too far unless it get's violent! I am OVERJOYED that even Obama is calling on this, and really, if every congressman and offical on the Hill grabbed a mic and went nuts, it still wouldn't be enough.
I do have a little input, though. I was happy to se that the Charlotte NPR station was covering Jena today, at the same time slot as the start of the Baisden show. One man did call in and voice compalint about it going way over board.
You'll love this: The running talk is that the nooses were not considered offensive by the majority of the students. In fact, most of the kids, white and black, are said to have been putting their heads in them, and varyied reports say some were getting their pictures taken while pretending to be gagged. Yes yes, very comical, but this was the first I had heard of it. ...btw, I'm being cynical. If that is the case, I am afraid. But I don't buy it on the offset.
The reason it stuck was because a member of the school board called in and voiced ex-treeeeme displeasure with the coverage, stating that it was being "overblown with false information" and was making the town out to be the "Most Racist Community in the World." He was firmly set that the majority of the school was not offended, and stated in inaccuracy of some of the case details. One of the other guests on the show, a law professor, stated a discrepency between the offical's facts and registered court documents. The outraged offical replied, paraphrased, that those who would chose to verbally assualt Jena should get their facts strait and do so correctly.
I'll have to download the broadcast to get more specific. The show was "All Things Considered" I think. This post may be edited shortly.
Anyhoo, that's a voice for those who dare to dissagree. I guess I can kind of see his point in that he doesn't want the whole town of Jena, or much less the school-system that manages several other towns besides, to be an international scape goat. Personally, though, I think the emphasis I have seen so far is being placed on the individuals and not the town. Has anyone seen any other broadcasts that run against that?
Edit: Sorry, it was Talk of the Nation. Here's the corresponding link. Enjoy, and Blessed Be!

Big ups to you Mahogany Love. I thought about the reaction of the town to the Jena 6 also once we left on September 20th. The 12% of blacks left in this little town would be much better off some place else and I truly do feel they would leave if they could afford to do so or if given the opportunity to do so. You opened your heart and your home and that is simply beautiful. I am a Katrina evacuee living in Baton Rouge, LA and if I had the space or place, I would certainly do the same. This is what we as a people must learn to do with and for each other. Again, my love goes out to you for being the beautiful person you are.

This story has touched me so much. SEE I like many other have two sons. I thought I would not worry about them as much as they got older but I worry more. I see so much injustice in this world that I feel I have to do something. I want to raise my voice and say to all black people that we as a people need to look out for one another. We need to feel what our brothers and sisters feel. I'm so disheartned by the Jena Six injustice that I can't even discribe what I feel. I don't know these boys but they are mine. I'm frustrated that there is no talk of this on main media. I can't believe still that they call an all white jury that are deciding the fate of black children a jury of thier peers. Same old Southern Just-US. I don't know the answer I just know that in my life I want to do more and I want to make a difference. I don't see the end of racism. Let's face it most white people just don't care. They go around in their world with blinders on. If it does not affect them their ok. I work with people just like this. We need more.

 ;) We have to send the message of hope, faith, and unity. If it is at Jena, at work, or at home we will overcome this injustice. I have to work, but i will try to help someone by telling everyone. Also, I will be wearing my black proud and I will make a donation to the defense fund 4 Mr. Bell. I have faith in our people and I pray more will want to get involved. Peace I out!

I have to say that I was very disappointed at some of the callers on the show today? Mainly the lady from Louisana. First of all we haven't gone far enough. When are we going to start holding white people accountable for their actions? It shocked me that students (black students) still have to ask for permission to sit or stand where they want. We are not doing enough! This is going to bring so much to light on so many other small towns as well as the large cities where this is also happening and believe me its not just happening in Jena. It is so amazing that Paris Hilton gets around the clock news for going to jail (something that happens every hour on the hour in this country) but this story barley gets 10 minutes. I am so disgusted with this story becasue you know it could be my brother, cousin, nephew or father.

The beginning of my input may sound a little crazy, but who are we????? We were never a people of submission, look at the real History (Black History). Even as slaves we were defiant, intelligent (thee most intelligent race on the planet, read the information) and very loving toward eachother and open to other's. But somewhere over time we've lost that element/feeling. Malcolm X said in order to further ourselves we must weed out all that is unpure and not of similar mindset, meaning for the better of our people and then because we've been mis-educated go through the step's of de-education and re-education, so that we can sort the madness that is society out. Which brings me to the topics inwhich have consumed my heart; Look around you, listen and really feel what is going on with and around you.... it's not a good vibe. My reasoning in saying that is because as I see it there is something BIG looming in our future, case in point; all the tragic and devestating events (Katrina, weather and the disregard for the human spirit, (not the body but the spirit) and lastly and certainly not least all the Terrible things that are happening to the children. Just take a moment and ponder on that. While you're doing that I will venture to another topic that came up on todays show hitting on the Jena 6 madness. Again, I ask as a people, who are we???? because we can't stand for this s#*t to go on! It is 2007 and we are turning the other cheek. Dr. King didn't by no means preach violence, but he did advocate that we come together for the betterment of our people, and that meant if we had to rally, march, protest, something, we did it as a collective.... but it got done. It's sad to hear that because the situation didn't directly affect you or yours it's not your/my problem. I ask, if you think that way look in the mirror. It could've been you or your's. There comes a time for us to "get up stand up, stand up for our right's" Bob Marley wrote and sang that rally cry. My question is what are we waiting for??!! I have a family of four and don't get paid much, but I can and will donate some money and make my brotha's and sista's aware of the Jena 6 out here in San Diego, California. We must wake up! we are not an ignorant people that will accept being shot and killed, beat down, imprisoned unjustly and looked down upon, and especially not our kids, our future's. God hear my words and answer my prayer's. If I misspoke or offended anyone I apologize. I am but one man, a black man and one voice I hope that the words that you read will help your cause, our cause.

I think we're not doing enough. I think so many people(muti-million dollar churches, celebrities, etc.) can and should stand up in support of these young men. Not just spiritually/emotionally but monetarily as well. There is no price, time limit, boundaries or constraints that should be placed on the struggle for equal civil rights, justice and equlity. My prayers go out to the 6 young men and their famalies.

I agree we should be mad and do all we can about the Jena Six case. What about the case in West Palm Beach were 10 black youth assaulted a woman and her 12 year old son and made him sexually assault his mother too. This is crazy our youth are out of control. Where is our rage and demand for action? Why do we not protest? When are we going to take control of our own communities? I am so sick of these rap songs glorifing drugs, guns and sex. Are we more than that? Other races just sit back and laugh. How do we get upset when others do something to us and not when we do it to ourselves. Black people we must demand more of ourselves.

this past weekend and one clear message in her comedy line-up was for those of us going down to Jena not to forget "that we have to leave the people behind" which after she said that my heart nearly exploded because it is a reality we do have to leave them behind and there is no telling if our Jena family will ever be treated fairly before OUR LORD & SAVIOR returns.
Always: Love, Peace & Harmony all over the world
at least im not the only one thinking about what will life be like for african americans in jena after this is all over.If i lived there and was a minority i would be definitely be contiplating a move.Dont forget about them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your right on the money.Im hispanic and i try to relay the same messge to all minorities not just yours and mine. Some of these young kids{all races} are just out of control. They have no respect for anyone or anything. Its the world we live.I think as mature adults and individuals we just have to stay on top of our young generation and stay in there head with positive messages.

To those women and anyone who says that the victims here could have chosen a different path thus bringing about a different outcome, I Say: WAKE UP!
its obvious that the african americans do not share the same benefits in jena that you do so dont be so quick to judge unless you walk in their shoes!!!!!!!!!!

THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERYWHERE NOT JUST IN JENA.I GUARANTEE YOU CAN GO TO ANY JAIL AND FIND MINORITIES THAT HAVE BEEN UNJUSTLY JAILED IT HAPPEN TO ME 22 YEARS AGO JUST MY TOWN WASNT 85 PERCENT WHITE.

Too far, we have not gone far enough that's why the system keep doing injustice to us because some people still think it's not a big deal because it's not their love one.
I am a mother with a young black male and if this was him I would cry out for help world wide also.
There are lawyers there. Why aren't they helping these kids? Money is not everything it's clear that the family needs help.

Also when that younger person come to you for mentoring. Teach them what they want to know. Don't make them your errand boy and teach them nothing. You will them with disrespting them in this manner. Also don't have them do anything you are not willing to do yourself.
In most cases we get more help from the other races than we get from our own.
WE ARE OUT HERE TRYING TO HELP THESE YOUNG KIDS NO MATTER WHAT THE RACE.WE TRY TO TO KEEP THEM FOCUSED ON ACADEMICS,STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE,NOT GETTING CAUGHT UP IN THE SYSTEM,OFFERING ADVICE IN ALL KINDS OF SITUATIONS.MOST OF THESE KIDS ARE GOOD HEARTED THEY JUST NEED SOME GUIDANCE.TO ALL THE PARENTS OUT THERE DONT GIVE UP ON OUR CHILDREN ESPECIALLY THESE TEENAGERS.

Mike,
Tell George to stop hogging the phones.
Stan
IM HISPANIC MY SON IS IN THE SAME SITUATION YOU WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL AND THE RULES STILL APPLY TO SITTING ON SOMEONES STOOP.I THINK THE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THE THREE NOOSES.AND IF RACIAL TENSIONS WERE SO HIGH WHY DID THE TWO BLACK STUDENTS ATTEND AN ALL WHITE PARTY??????????????????

No we haven't gone far enough. I fully support any and all coverage of the Jena 6.
Thoughout history especially, United States history, when economy is low racism rears its ugly head.
Most of us lower the level of our racism alert when the economy good but that is when racism dons its disguises (i.e., covert employment, housing, lending discimination, lack of funding for public services in our communities, etc.)
We are continuing a battle that has been going on since the transatlantic slave trade and as we the decendents of slaves fight the decendents of the oppressors will continue to fight against us.
The more thing change the more they stay the same.
Look at the quotes below. The first one (blue type) is a 2007 quote from a school board member in Jena.
The second (red type) is a 1955 quote from the sheriff during the Emmett Till trial.
After 52 years notice the similarities in the messages? Both claim to be fair but want outsiders to stay away. Outside help and/or attention is unwanted. Scary!!!
2007 (Jena, Louisiana)
Some people in Jena don't appreciate the attention.
School board member Billy Fowler says the year's events have been blown out of proportion. On the other hand, he says, in the unlikely event that another student hung a noose, the incident would be taken more seriously. He also notes that some of the original charges against the six teens, which he says were excessive, were reduced.
"I feel like my town has been raked over unmercifully," Fowler says. "I'm tired of hearing how racist my town is and it's just not so. … And the outsiders are not helping any with this."
1955 Re: Emmett Till Case (Tallahatchie County, Mississippi)
Tallahatchie County Sheriff H.C. Strider: "I'd like for the NAACP or any colored organization anywhere to know that we intend to give a fair and impartial trial . . . . we don't need the help of the NAACP and we don't intend for them to help . . . . We never have any trouble until some of our Southern niggers go up north and the NAACP talks to them and they come back home."
The following links are cover just two of the incidents that has happened since Jena 6 coverage has taken off.

Michael
Thank you so much for taking a stand and encouraging others in our community and communities nation wide to get involved in this case. We constantly hear Black spoke persons, i.e.; the Jason Whitlock's, etc, on the various news stations critizing some of our leaders, Jessie, Al etc., however until now, very few have been willing to step up to the plate and get actively involved, placing their lives on the line as our forefathers did, and be fully committed to the good and the bad and continue to work toward a common goal. It's fustrating, yes, hard work yes, requires the kind of committment that very few are willing to give. Less talk and more involvement from all generations is urgently needed. Those who want to lead should have one on one conversations with our leaders and anyone who has committed to do the work in our community and express their interests. I am certain they will welcome and work with all volunteers. There's too much work to turn down any serious commitment. However, one must remember that it's a commitment, not just a drop in and drop out situation. As a result , we should stop critizing those attempting to lead, getting dissapointed and backing those of other ethnic groups. This is a journey not an adventure. We must work together as any family should. The work is not easy, never has been and never will be. We must be willing to stand up, through dissapointments, work out our differences in our "own house." Unfortunately that's a hughe issue for a few in our community. All serious volunteers can find a seat at the community table.
Michael, than you for providing a vehicle, now we can say again, all is not lost and our forefathers blood, sweat, tears and suffering is honored and appreciated generation.
We know you will not drop the ball but continue until all our sons are returned to their families and their records clean. We stand with you financially, in spirit and in love.
Thank you for picking up the torch.
God Bless

This comment was e-mailed to Fox 29 news, unfornately in my area it is the only station I saw the issue broadcasted and believe me it wasn't much of a broadcast.
Jena 6 comment
While I am glad to hear your station air the story regarding the young man Mychal Bell and the six other defendents of the Jena 6, it also sadden me that you really didn't give the full coverage of the story like your station did when you covered the story regarding the Lacross players. You see the way your station air the Jena 6 story you left viewers to believe that this young man's attorney was demanding the release of his client after the client and his co-defendent attack a white student. Why not air the whole story? Why not let it be known that three white students in Jena La hung nooses on the tree that you showed in your news clip prior to the incident, because that same tree was reserved for white student only and yes this is 2007 and not 1953 and it is still going on. Why not let it be known that prior to the incident the same white boy that was attacked jumped a black boy at a party and no charges were filed? Why not let it be known that that a man at a convience store in the same town pulled a gun on a group of black students, nothing was done to the man, but the students were charged because they took the man's gun? So again I say why not tell the whole story. It really sadden me that in todays time there is still racial biasness when the news is broadcast, the picture that the news media likes to paint of any minority not just african americans is alway bleak or underminding. I just wonder what it would be like if the playing field was in reverse.

Mr. Baisden:
I am BURSTING WITH PRIDE, because of the movement you & your show has created, pertaining to the JENA 6.
I get overwhelmed, when listening to your show and hearing all of the support this movement has attracted.
Because of your intestinal fortitude to stand up for what is right; I have prayed for your safety. I have asked the Lord to cover you with the Blood of Jesus & surround you with His Angels...not just in Jena, but, forever. There will be those that are going to try to destroy you...but, "No Weapon Formed Against You Shall Prosper!!" I hope you receive that & believe that!!

We are so proud to have been apart of the Jena march. I told my husband about the support you and your staffs were prepared to render. We decided despite the expense we would be there. We live in Youngstown Ohio and we drove to Detroit to catch a bus. It is an experience I would not trade for the world. We have to be prepared to stand up for what we believe. We are in a pivotal time. And the tides of racism is still raging The trip opened up dialogue on our bus as to where do we go from here and what can we do to empower ourselves and protect our children. The prisons are set up as a control mechanism a new plantation if you will. If our young men can be locked up before they have an opportunity to procreate. We will experience genocide. We conclude that we must educate our youth, encourage them and empower them to create their own opportunities for themselves and others with in their communities Many of us have been asleep at the wheel. When I heard that affirmative action was stuck down in 2006. I cried. As Rev.Sharpton said we know face James Crow Esquire. Racism has taken on a new face and we must not become complacent. If each person who attended the march would reach out to one youth we can make a positive change or at least equip them to combat the new tactics.
God Bless you & your staff!!!
